I do an online pick up order every Friday evening for dinner since May. Everything on the menu is delicious but, I always find myself getting the smoked wings and my mother gets the brisket and or ribs! The coleslaw and Brussels sprouts are Amazing! I've been twice now. First time, my only complaint was the pulled pork wasn't moist, saucy, or seasoned well. This is my second time getting the catfish nuggets though. Not as fresh at 7pm on a Saturday but still good. My only complaint this time is there needs to be more sauce provided with that many catfish nuggets. I got the "come back sauce" and I had nuggets left without sauce. Honey sriracha brussel sprouts were pretty good, I'd get them again. read more

Disappointing. I ordered the fried chicken, it was seasoned well but unfortunately undercooked. It was pink below the surface and around the bones and it was hard instead of crispy, one bite and all of the coating fell off of the half cooked chicken. I chose to throw it away and lose money instead of risking sickness. I asked the owner if he was using the same recipe as the previous owner and he emphatically stated that they were not. The previous people cooked chicken with a perfect crispy crust but no flavor at all. From everything I've read current owner is an experienced restaurant operator but somehow he let this awful failure get served. Looking at the other reviews, most are very positive but some are like mine, clearly there is a lack of consistency with their quality control. I hope this was a mistake that will be corrected as I would like to be a regular customer, if not, oh well. read more

Wow. Just so disappointed! Tried this place when they first opened and it was a mess then and decided it was not worth returning. Now Under new ownership with a good pedigree related to Allset in downtown SS, was really looking forward to something better then the first time, but unfortunately can't say it was any better at all. The service has changed 100% wound give them a 4. The food well different story. NO FLAVOR AT ALL Chicken was over battered, almost more batter than chicken Mac and cheese. I'm sorry maybe should be renamed shells with roux soup, can't say I tasted or saw any cheese. Baked beans were very bland and flavorless I will say the pulled pork was juicy and had good flavor but that was the only bright spot. It would be nice to see more sandwiches, maybe a pulled pork with options on the toppings (like coleslaw). Would be much more inclined to spend $35 bucks for 2 on pick up food if there were more flavorful options. Really can't bring myself to go back, such a disappointment, in an area where we really need some fresh new options. read more

So we've tried this place many times and it always misses the mark in some way (undercooked chicken, incorrect orders). But we keep going back because we want a neighborhood joint to succeed. The latest? I stopped in for just a simple ice cream cone- needed a mid afternoon treat. I ordered a chocolate cone. I don't know if the gentleman behind the counter couldn't hear me or wasn't paying attention but first he hands me a cup full of chocolate vanilla swirl. When I corrected him and repeated my order he handed me a cone this time but still with the swirl. So he had to remake the cone, giving me attitude the whole time. And in the end shorted me on the ice cream. It's pretty hard to make ice cream a joyless experience but Fryer's managed to do it. read more

This place is so dang good! I'm relieved to have a "keeper" in the Fryer's spot. Seriously a delight. They really know what they are doing with their BBQ and the portions for the cost are very reasonable. Dry rub Wings were my favorite but all of the meat was amazing (we sampled it all)! I placed an order yesterday 04/12/23 and had the panini and a pulled pork sandwich. The panini was excellent and the pulled park was mid but since I enjoyed my first experience I decided to give it another shot today 04/13/23 since I had friends over. Unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. Best cornbread in the DMV. Nothing else is even close. Back in the day there was a Vietnamese seafood restaurant in Wheaton that had excellent cornbread but they closed down long ago. Fried chicken breast here is super, so is the fried chicken sandwich, brisket sandwich and the pulled pork. Ribs are very tender, smokey and tasty but there was a bunch of gristle and non-negotiable terrain at the large edge of the rack so I might not get these here again. We've dined here a couple of dozen times and always look forward to returning, diet permitting. read more

We ordered ribs, pork barbecue, a Cuban sandwich, and several sides. Everything was very good, I am used to being dishes with local bbq but this was the real deal. The Carolina pork was smoky, moist and flavorful. The ribs were fall off the bone tender, and the Cuban was perfect. The collards were great, everyone raved on the max and cheese, and the cornbread was good too. We will be back to try the brisket! read more

I ordered the half chicken, fried with a side for about $15. I got a very, very undercooked, enormous half chicken with a big breast full of red, bloody raw juice. This was low level, processed chicken. I could actually squeeze the chicken like a large sponge which sent the juice flowing into the sink. My dog wouldn't eat it so I put it out for the raccoon. The fries were good and the Cuban sandwich I also ordered was decent. Hard pass. read more

So had a chance to try it again after the first failure with the new owners. I have pros and cons. I know they are new and they need practice. BUT, We got a whole fried bird and it had a nice crispy crust and warm by the time we got it home. The bird was OK size but should have cut into 8's not 4 pieces. Dont know if they offer that but it should be noted. Very tasty but at 28 bucks it should have come with 2 sides included. Nope. The potato wedges were ok but very mushy as they were sitting in a steamer tray. Slaw was good. But as with most chicken places around you always include sides. IMO. Bummer we didnt get the rolls that were included! Sauces were 50 cents after one free, for a whole bird at 28 dollars. I may go back and try the ribs in the coming months after they fix some kinks but I wish them success. read more

Sorry - didn't "love" or even "like" my experience! I had to "argue" with two employees. I ordered 1 item - a vanilla cup with nuts and oreo pieces on-line (order #88) and it would be ready at 8:01 pm. When I got to the restaurant the young man working counter said he didn't get my order. I told him, the number (88), and what it was and he went about fixing it. He put vanilla ice cream in a plastic cup and sat it on the counter where you pick up. I stated "I ordered that with nuts and oreo pieces". He stated "sorry but that is not served with any extras". I stated "yes, that is how I ordered it on line and I've ordered it before". He called another employee (older man) over. He stated "no, we don't put toppings on the vanilla cup, there would be an extra charge". I stated "well, that is what I ordered on line and it's paid for - you need to check it out. My order is #88." He pulled up the order and yep - that is exactly what I ordered. The young man then put the toppings on the ice cream and brought it to the counter. I then asked for a lid since I was taking it in my car. While doing this - he had gotten ice cream on the side of the cup. He wiped it off with a "cloth towel" that was sitting on the counter. I stated I didn't think that was a good idea since I didn't know what he had wiped up with that towel before. The older man stated "oh that is a clean towel". I stated "it didn't matter - he should use a paper towel and throw it away. Chances of cross contamination using a cloth towel over and over are high". Believe me - this was not how I wanted to end my day - arguing over about 50 cents worth of smashed oreo's and chopped nuts. But sad to say - I've heard a few stories lately from others about "lack of friendly service". And each time I have ordered food - I have noticed a real lack of understanding that "the customer is who is paying your bills". I live in the neighborhood - been here for 50+ years. This is a tough neighborhood and you need to be at the top of your game, make service and your customers your priority - every day! read more

Since the new owners have taken over this place the fried chicken is amazing. The smokin hot chicken I could eat everyday and is easily my favorite fried chicken in all the DMV area. Also they have BBQ that is so tasty and I am pretty sure they smoke it on premises. This should be a staple in anyone's Silver Spring going out night or night in with take out and a movie. read more

First and foremost, I'd just like to say that the people who work here are SO, SO NICE! The employees were pleasant and hospitable and made the experience better. I will be going back for the service and the shakes. The shakes are incredible; not an exaggeration when I tell you the shake I had there was the best milkshake I've had in the entire D.C. area. The food, however, was lackluster. I was disappointed in the pizza, and had an issue with my order, but when I talked to the employee behind the counter he was sincerely apologetic and immediately offered me something free, so I got a free drink. Most places are not that nice to you in such a situation, so I really appreciated that kind gesture. The covered/shaded patio outside was also a huge plus. My only other criticism is that, for what it is, I think it's a little on the expensive side, but that's one of those things where it is what it is and it's not a dealbreaker by any means. I consider myself a fried chicken aficionado. I'm a dark meet guy. I usually pass on the chicken breast. I could not put this one down. The moistest, most flavorful fried chicken breast I've EVER had. I got my chicken spicy. This is a real spicy, that actually has some heat. I find that most "spicy" chicken just hast extra seasonings. Fryers spicy chicken seems to be dipped in a sauce then flash fried again. Not sure how they do it but it's great! I also recommend the SC BBQ sauce. Not really necessary because the chicken itself has so much flavor, but a nice addition to the already great chicken. They had smokers going outside while I was waiting for my meal. The entire campus of this restaurant smelled like southern/soul food magic. I highly recommend. read more

The management and consistency of the last owners were question, but have really enjoyed both the quality of the chicken was great, tand I love the addition of money muscle bbq-- ribs were great, and we have loved the All Set restaurant as well. Sides (mac and cheese esp) were amazing. I think as we head to the nicer weather, working on making the seating and indoor public space more inviting and comfortable to eat at the location. Fried chicken is best consumed close to when it comes out of the fryer-- would love to see how they make that feel more comfortable at the location. But they are off to a great start. read more

This is a cursed location, and the current iteration of Fryer's is a new low in food, and a new high in prices. We ordered online to sample their food. The biscuits and baked beans were world class. Coleslaw was good. The fried chicken was the worst we have ever tasted. The overly thick batter seemed like it was mixed with small pebbles. It was so salty that a deer wouldn't have eaten it. $15 for a half chicken was absurd, but reasonable compared to the half pound of brisket, consisting of two slices in a large cardboard box, again for $15. Ordering online was simple. We placed the order at 5:51p, with the order to have been ready at 6:01p. Unfortunately, that wasn't true. The food was ready at 6:25p, with the supposed staff stating six times that the food would be ready in "just a moment". This was coupled with her response to when the food would be ready - "I don't know"! Fryer's is a must avoid eatery. read more
