I had a hard time understanding the mediocre star level but it seems several of those reviewers were either abnormally harsh because they struggled with the ordering computer, or they went for the fried chicken. I stopped in for soft serve because I wanted to try it out and see if it would be a good place to bring my ice cream fiend of a kiddo. And it is! But while I was there I realized how could I NOT go for something from the smoker. So I tried a brisket sandwich and it was really good. I plan to go back specifically to try some chicken wings from the smoker, more brisket, and maybe some ribs. Service was friendly and fast. The food is on point and the pricing is reasonable. Customers need to keep in mind that FR offers two types of meat: fried and smoked, and there are distinct differences between the two. Have only had the smoked pork BBQ ribs and sides, not the fried chicken (yet); but I will drive here from DC to get their vittles, and that's saying something. I'm a fan of ribs, and the tenderness of their rib meat impresses me as well as having a nice bark on it that's easy to chew. It's exactly what its name suggests -- a roadside stop serving up easy eats and yummy desserts. The place is no frills but seems very clean and well run. There's no indoor seating, but there's a covered area with picnic tables outside or you can just eat, well, roadside in your car. This place is a bit of a trek from my house in DC, but I made the drive because I wanted a brisket sandwich from Muscle Money BBQ (which used to operate in a ghost kitchen of a nearby restaurant) but was since only available way out at Fryer's. The sandwich was at Fryer's was good but not as good as I remembered it because they didn't put enough sauce on it. On a long walk, I passed by Fryers and stopped in. I've tried to make it into Fryers a few times before, but despite their hours being listed online indicating they were open, each time, it was closed. So, I was fairly excited to get to actually try them. The location, on New Hampshire, in that little plaza across from Noodle King, has gone through a lot of recent residents. I remember when it was an ice cream store, then a deli, then a really good taverna. Some of these places have been good enough that you wonder why they aren't lasting. Fryers, on the other hand, isn't apt to actually last for any reason. The inside of the restaurant makes it clear that they're mostly a take out business. A single table is inside, with two seats. Otherwise, there's nowhere inside to sit, and outside doesn't look very appealing any longer, either. They are sending the message, "grab your food and go!" I ordered a four piece, which came with a roll -- no other side -- and also got a soda. The roll looked like they picked them up in bulk from the grocery store, just very blah. The chicken was juicy and well cooked, but as others have indicated, it wasn't exactly bursting with flavour. It was just plain mediocre -- not bad, but nothing memorable or good. Fried chicken is easy, there are lots and lots and lots of fried chicken restaurants around -- within just a couple of minutes of Fryers, there's others, including at least two big chain restaurants. If you're going to last, you need something that sets you apart, and nothing Fryers offered did that. It wasn't unique, it didn't have great flavour, it just ... was. It was edible, it was fine, it was okay, but I'm not craving going back anytime soon. Worse than that, it was expensive. I can run down to the famous chicken chain nearby and get a 4-pc, including a drink and a side, for about 30% less than what I paid for my meal at Fryer's -- and Fryers doesn't even include a side with theirs! I think the chain chicken is at least as good, if not better, and cheaper. So, as much as I'd love to support an independent(ish) business, I can't think of a good reason to go back. There was nothing good about this experience or this food. We ordered delivery through Yelp via Grubhub. First, the restaurant incorrectly marked our delivery order as pickup. When we called to see what was taking so long the woman who claimed to be the manager said we have to come pick it up. I called Grubhub and they said their driver was turned away because we wanted to pick it up. WRONG! Thankfully Grubhub made good and the driver went back and got the order. Too bad because the food was terrible. The wings were burnt and dry. The brisket was incredibly dry. The collards taste canned. The mac and cheese was horrific and Al dente and kind of like kraft but worse. The Cole slaw was fine but how hard is that? The pulled pork sandwich was okay. The corn bread wasn't terrible. The biscuit had chunks of some kind of salt that nearly choked one of us. Do yourself a favor....skip it. Oh I forgot, the "manager" hung up on us multiple times. My sisters and I are fried chicken lovers, so we always get fried chicken out when I am visiting the DC area. Fryer's Roadside is not far from sister's house in Four Corners. We got lunch here on a Sunday and they had a steady stream of customers ordering take out. They have a couple of hi top tables inside and 3 picnic tables outside if you want to dine there. We ordered take out. I had their Spicy Chicken Sandwich. It was good. A good size for the price I paid for them. Definitely better than Popeye's or any fast food place. It has slaw, pickles and a huge chunk of boneless chicken. A little messy to eat, so you're gonna need a lot of napkins! Their hot sauce is nice and hot so I would suggest dipping your sandwich into the hot sauce if you want it hotter. My sister also bought a box of 8 piece chicken. I tried one of the thighs. It wasn't as crunchy as I would have liked but the flavor of their seasoning is good. The chicken was really moist. I also tried the Mac and Cheese (good) and the fries. They are very generous with the fries and they are not from frozen bagged potatoes. They are made from fresh potatoes. They get soft fast so eat them right away when they hand them to you. For dessert, I had the Turtle Sundae. It was nice and refreshing on a warm day! My niece really liked it. I would definitely return if I am craving fried chicken. We had a bad experience here, showed up around 2:30pm, and were served chicken dryer than a desert, the crisp coating dry but with the benefit of a burned flavor. We were sure that this chicken was made MANY hours before - the server was happy to give it to us, as though selling 3 1/2 hour old "heat lamp ruined" fried chicken was perfectly acceptable. (Do they have a fresh chicken policy? - pitch after 15 mins?, 30? - sell EVERY piece till it's gone?) We were really looking forward to some top shelf fried chicken- and we're sure that is what most people get when they get their "to go" orders. My husband and I have pretty low expectations when it comes to finding a good fried chicken place because it's either bad quality chicken, not spicy, bland or all of the above. The only other fried chicken place we love is Jollibee. We ordered the 4 piece dark meat chicken box just to try it out and I regret not getting more. The chicken was suppppper flavorful and juicy. It was also super crunchy and fried fresh. It wasn't spicy (which we love) but there was no need for it because of how tasty it was. It also came with some dinner rolls which were okay, and your sauce of choice. Their sauces are amazing! I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. I plan to make my wife change maternity wards to a closer hospital so that I can stop here on the way so I don't get hungry on delivery day. I've had ribs and brisket, both tender, juicy, taste very fresh. Comes un-sauced which is perfect for me so that it's not messy while driving to the hospital. I did however try the Northern Carolina sauce on the side before leaving their parking lot and it had a bright clean taste. The sandwich has a good spicy zing that lingers, but not so overpowering to the point you're sweating out our ancestral dramas. I had high hopes for this restaurant when I spotted it on UberEats. Unfortunately, they did not pan out. The chicken looked good and the coating was crispy however...both the chicken and the fries were greasy and tasted like they were cooked in oil which hadn't been changed in a long time. Served on a Woodmore roll, it was a large thicc breaded chicken breast, with comeback sauce, coleslaw, and bread & butter pickles. The breast was very moist and honestly, I was kicking myself by the end of the sandwich for not ordering a side of that coleslaw. It tasted great. The mac and cheese was warm, melty homemade mac and cheese flavor like you fight over at every holiday at your aunty's house and the fries definitely tasted like Five Guys fries but somehow even better. The bun on the chicken sandwich was soft and prepared with love. The bun alone coupled with the moistness of the chicken breast was a satisfying marriage of sweetness from the bun and fresh chicken. Every piece of chicken was tender and juicy. The hand cut fries were perfect and the comeback sauce is the best comeback sauce I've had in the area. The Carolina Reaper pepper used in the extra hot Roadside sauce is a hybrid pepper that holds the Guinness World Record for the hottest chili pepper in the world. When we went inside, the owner and both of the workers who were supposed to wait on customers were having a lengthy conversation with the person who was on line in front of us. They continued jabbering away, completely unwilling to acknowledge our presence let alone take our order. When they finally got around to us (roughly 5-7 minutes later), they told us that that they didn't have the menu item that we wanted to order. Mind you, Fryers only has about eight different types of milkshakes to begin with. How on earth do they manage not to have them all available?! Inexplicable to me. Finally, there is no menu board posted or anything like that. There is a single reinforced paper menu on the counter for everyone to touch and use. I took my food to go since it was raining and there isn't much coverage to eat there. The fries are simple but really good and salted well. The chicken was good but I thought it would have had more flavor to it based on the way it looked. 2 of the pieces of chicken were a little under cooked and questionable which is why I only gave 4 stars instead of 5. I took a picture but I decided not to post it with this review because this place has a lot of potential and I want it to stick around. The rolls served with the chicken are super soft, and tasted good, and would have been even better served with the option of butter. Took the family and all ordered the chicken strips. (Was surprised fries did not come with any of the meals.). Also ordered large fries and Philadelphia water ice. I don't know who else in the area has water ice, so this was a pleasant surprise. Everything was good, however was a little pricey to make this a regular stop. Been waiting to try this place for a while and finally did last night. Place looks cool from the outside and was excited about trying it after not going out too much lately. Where to start? Of course the chicken. It was OK. A bit overcooked as the crust was almost an unappealing dark crust and greasy. It was just good and while eating it I was dreaming of spicy Popeyes chicken. A bit expensive but hey inflation. Sauces were very good. Rolls? Come on. Your a chicken place make some amazing biscuits and not these bland parkerhouse, store bought ones. No butter. Not even warm. Not a lot of love. The fries were the best part. Huge order of fresh cut homemade fries. The sides were all extra like slaw and beans and Mac and Cheese. One table to sit at along with all kinds of equipment all around so not a place to stay. Very weird not to have a few places to eat some hot food. Overall not impressed. Definitely improved from their start. Pricing and sizes of sides is more reasonable. "After Pool" special pricing (taking the place of Happy Hour pricing) are bargains. You'd think that during off times, the chicken would be all dried out...not in my experience. The breasts and tenders have always been moist no matter when I get them. The chicken could still use a saltier brine for sure, but being not too salty is probably better for us anyway. This local independent place with homemade tasting chicken is great to have in the eastern part of Mont Co which has been neglected and overlooked for far too long.
