Tuesday 3/4/25 I made a call for takeout, and the phone service could've been better, but luckily the in-person service I experienced was a lot better. I got the birria con consommé quesadillas $16, al pastor taco $3.65, carne asada taco $3.65, tinga de pollo taco $3.65, pineapple: agua Fresca $3, mangonada $6, pastel de tres leches $4.50, and the Oreo mousse cake $4.50. Just some notes before we get to the food: I made the call in order at 12:07 pm and the food was ready by 12:40 pm, I was looking forward to the churro cheesecake but it was out of stock, and lastly I should've been charged $10.75 for the 3 tacos meal but instead they charged me individually for each taco. - The birria con consommé quesadillas were GOOD and fairly priced. The quesadillas were cheesy, the birria meat was good, and it paired very well with the consommé. - The Al pastor taco was alright and I'd probably rank it as the second best taco of the three. - The carne asada was decent and easily the best of the 3 tacos. Steak tacos done well are always good. - The tinga de pollo taco was the weakest of the 3 tacos, the chicken had no flavor. - The pastel de tres leches (with cinnamon) surprised me as it was one of the better tres leches desserts that I've had and it's only $4.50. - The mangonada was an experience (to say the least) as it was my first time having one. I best describe this as an acquired taste because it's popular, but I wasn't a fan. - The Pineapple: Agua Fresca was mediocre. Yum! This place is amazing and definitely a gem in Silver Spring. Located around the corner from a Sunoco gas station, Tacos Don Perez has quite a large space for outdoor seating and operates out of two food trucks: One for ordering/payment (items like dessert and elote are also dispensed here) and the other for order pickup. The employees were nice and genuinely excited for me to try the food. I was also given a buzzer after ordering to help advise me when the food would be ready. They also accept orders over the phone and online (in addition to walk-ups). I ordered the 3 Pollo Quesatacos as well as the Tres Leche with raspberry drizzle. Every bite for the tacos and the cake was flavorful and well-balanced. The tacos were meaty and everything was fresh. I loved the red (spicy) and green salsa packets included alongside the tacos (as well as slices of cucumber and radish and lime as the garnish). Ugh, the Tres Leches was devastatingly scrumptious. It was sweet and very moist. I loved the slight tartness the raspberry drizzle (on the frosting) offered. I wish I had gotten more than just the single order of the cake. This place is like a hidden gem. It's stationed outside a small gas station and the first time I couldn't find it. Saturday afternoon was pretty chill as there were tables filled with customers. Not fully packed but just enough. We ordered a half tray of the lengths tacos. Two refreshments, Pineapple & tamarind! We didn't have to wait long for our order as we just sat down at one of the picnic tables they had set up outside. Food tasted yummy. The drinks made everything better together. I'm kind of sad that I found this place. Since it's really close to my gym, I have a feeling that I might undo my workouts by stopping at Tacos Don Perez for a post-workout meal. Tacos Don Perez is pretty much a large, outdoor taco stand that has a great variety of tacos and other Mexican dishes. For my order, I went with three tacos (I forget which ones I ordered). Overall, I thought my tacos were perfectly prepared. After finishing the tacos, I wished that I had ordered a few more. Also, the prices is pretty much on par with other places in the area. I believe my three tacos were about $11. If you visit outside of regular lunch hours (or before the kiddos are dismissed from school), the service is pretty fast. However the lines can be a bit long, which I guess confirms that this is a good place for tacos. The only downside to this spot are: 1. It's outdoors, so it probably will not be fun to eat here during the winter. 2. It's in a parking lot near a gas station, so you might smell a bit of gas while consuming your tacos. I ventured to the Tacos Don Perez trailer and, as expected, found a line of folks waiting for some genuine Mexican flavor. But the line moved quick and I found myself driving home with a cheese quesadilla, veggie torta, and a special dessert of sliced strawberries and bananas over pancake balls. The first thing you'll notice at TDP is that everything is HUGE! The cheese Quesadilla barely fit into the container, and this was after it was wrapped in half. The quesadilla alone could have fed my entire family. And it was delicious! Not too greasy, very cheesy, and they gave plenty of salsa/sauce to spread over it. The veggie torta was also GINORMOUS, stuffed full of mushrooms and assorted veggies, crisp and fresh, again with plenty of sauces to spread around. The dessert was a nice finishing touch, but we were so stuffed, we couldn't finish it - save for later! Tacos Don Perez is the bomb - you want BIG Mexican flavors, you can find it in the trailer. I'm so glad I finally got to try this place! They have really good birria tacos. The line was quite long when we got there on a Sunday night, but it moved pretty quickly. There were also lots of people using the outdoor seating, however, we got lucky and found a spot to sit while waiting in line. You order your food from one truck and pick it up from the other. They give you a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready. We ordered the birria taco tray which came with 12 tacos and 4 consomes, split between 3 people. The tacos were flavorful and not dry. I also liked how the consome wasn't too spicy. The sauces that came with it were also a nice touch. We also shared the hot cheeto-covered elote which was amazing. Stumbled upon this taco truck yesterday and the food was pretty good. We ordered the birria tacos, chicken tacos, and a carne quesadilla to go. They were all pretty flavorful but the taco shells could have been better. I'm a taco lover and expected more from these because of the authenticity and the parking lot was packed full of customers. I also tried the churro cheesecake which was good but it didn't really give me cheesecake vibes. More of a cinnamon roll flavor with strawberries on top, Idk I couldn't put my finger on it. Good food, but didn't match up to same quality, taste, and service as last time. I ordered 4 tacos and only received 2; I had to go back and tell them and got 1 taco back. I got the Al Pastor, Lengua, Mushroom, and Carne Asada...they never gave me my Carne Asada taco. By the time I realized, it was too late. To sample more of the menu, I tried their Flan, Tres Leches, Horchata, Lengua taco, and Sandía/Watermelon agua fresca. Their Agua Frescas are a safe bet- the watermelon was refreshing and delicious. However, I found the other 3 items more disappointing. The Flan was bland and the caramel didn't taste the best and how a good homemade caramel sauce should taste. The Tres Leches was basic and bland, but that could be simply because I don't like Tres Leches cake (I was hoping TDP could change my mind.) Their Horchata was okay- incredibly sweet but I've had better. To get back another 4th taco I ordered the flor de calabaza. Good, but I noticed this time around, their cheese upsets my stomach fast. This place has been on my radar for quite a while, but just never quite found the opportunity to go until now. On the way back from deep MoCo, it was rush hour... it was going to take me an hour to get home. So instead of enduring the traffic, I took advantage and made my way to this food truck... or should I say trucks?! Next to a gas station, Tacos Don Perez has it all -- a little area enclosed by the food truck and a small building for employees only, music bumping, and plenty of long benches to sit at. Mind you, it's all outdoors -- so in the dead of winter you will not enjoy yourself. But in the other seasons, I could see it being a party out there!!! So the right side is where you make your order, and there are plenty of menus scattered around so you can make your decision before reaching the front of the line. I decided to go for all the veggie ones except the mushrooms. My options were corn smut (fungus), mixed veggie & pumpkin flower... neat right??? So I placed my order and received a buzzer that would tell me when to pick up my order on the left side. What a treat!!! Each taco was packed with a unique flavor and came with the fixings -- the radish, the cucumbers, the limes, sauce... but what I wasn't expecting (though the menu DID say quesatacos) was the amount of cheese on each one. My friends have been raving about this place for years and I finally stopped by. They feature 2 large food trucks right by the Truist bank and Food Mart gas station. I stopped by on a week night and the line was 20 deep. I ordered 3 Birria tacos and the Birria quesadilla via their website and the wait time was less than 30 minutes. The food came out fresh and was packed with plenty of marinated beef. The oaxaca cheese was so creamy and delicious. They don't skimp you on the consume either. It's a fairly large serving with plenty of flavor and rice. My friend and I really enjoyed our experience here. We both agreed that this was one of our best taco experiences here and reminded us of the taco trucks in Cali. They are efficient, there are two pick up areas one for online orders and the other for in person orders. The food comes out quickly as I noticed the people who placed orders in person. I placed my order online via the website and through Uber Eats. The food was decent. It's within the shopping center lot there on the corner of Georgia Ave and Randolph. It's a food truck - but it's actually two large semi-permanently-parked food service trailers. It's located behind the McDonalds near the corner of Randolph and George Ave., and it's between a gas station and a bank. Plenty of parking. They have a portion of the lot sectioned off with plenty of picnic tables with large umbrellas. The area is exceptionally clean. And it's decorated in a festive manner with lots of colored lights and bright paint and bright signage. And speakers play happy upbeat Mexican music. I ordered three Birria quesatacos which means they include cheese. And it came with consumme which you dip the taco in like a french dip. I think I paid around $14. These are mexican tacos and have little to do with the tex mex tacos most Americans are accustomed to. And they are fantastic. The toppings included thin sliced radish, cucumber, and also green and red hot sauces in little packets. And fresh cilantro and a healthy squirt of lime. The two trucks are the same business. The one with the desserts and drinks is where you place your order. I ordered the asada, Birria and chicken tinga with a cucumber lime aqua fresca. Other spots usually come with the consome for the birria tacos, so when they asked me if I wanted it I knew there was going to be an extra charge. The consome had rice and was not heavily salted.
