This is a pleasant, attractive place in a small country town. The service is attentive and cheerful. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the food, at least what we ate. The Thursday Special chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy was as bland as nursing home food. It didn't appear to have been seasoned even with salt or pepper, let alone herbs or garlic. The only reason the beets we chose as a side had any flavor is that they seemed to have come right from a pickle jar. The chicken WAS juicy and cooked all the way through. This place is pretty cool. A bit off the main path. A great small town dinner that is apparently quite popular. I was quickly greeted by the waitress. I ordered an unsweet tea. Apparently fried catfish was the special. Got that with a baked potato. She brought out "cowgirl salad" first, which was great. Like a broccoli salad but with cauliflower. The catfish was more filling than it looked. The breading was great. The bathroom could use a remodeling. They have room for big parties. A full bar is available. read more

Great bar and dive food! If you are a French Frperson, this is your place! They serve them Crinkle Cut, Hand Cut, Steak Fry Cut, Curley Cut, Seasoned Fries, and Sweet Potato Fries! But the best is they actually their homemade onion rings!!!! They have mastered what many restaurants, even some of the more up scale ones, you simply take a Sweet Onion slice it into thin rings and lightly shake it in well seasoned flour and then fry them!!! You get the most delicious onion rings ever! No heavy coating where the onion is lost due the heavy coating! Wait staff is super helpful and check on you often! The only downside and why I gave 4 stars vs. 5- THE CIGARETTE SMOKE! Unfortunately, Montgomery County allows smoking in their restaurants still and knowing the research it there on cigarette smoke you think more people would say enough is enough! Hubby and I came here today for a late lunch. It has been since before COVID that we ate here. It was good then, but now, WOW was even better! We had an order of onion rings to start with and they were some of the best I have ever had. We got a side of ranch dressing with them, and were told all salad dressings are homemade with the exception of the Italian. Very flavorful! I had the bacon cheese smash burgerand hubby got the grilled turkey melt that were the specials today. Sandwiches were very good, and the fresh made fries were a great side. Only regret? This gem is off exit 118 on I70. They had one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I ever had. They make their BBQ sauce from scratch and it is delicious. The service was fast and friendly. There merchandise is super cute. Nice bonus if you are into Pokémon Go there are two poke stops and two gym. Definitely a great stopping place between Kansas City and at Louis. We regularly make the trip between St. Louis and Columbia at the end of a work day and find ourselves ready for dinner halfway, usually in the middle of nowhere. Today we used Yelp to find a small town restaurant rather than a chain and struck on Frumpy Joes. We have 2 young kids and I was worried that it would be a bar with food. The main dining room does feature a bar but there are booths and it is well lit and carpeted. It's a true restaurant that also has a bar. We felt quite safe and not at all out of place with the kids. We ordered burgers (make your own, Jonesburg special, and plain kids cheeseburger) and kids Mac & cheese. The food was hot and fresh and tasted delicious. They don't offer a choice on how to cook the burgers and they were probably med well with crispy edges. No "burn" and didn't taste scorched or dry so ok by me, although I usually prefer my burgers a little less done. We tried curly fries and tater tots and both were freshly fried and not greasy. Mac and cheese was homemade (not kraft) but well liked by a Kraft loving kiddo who also enjoyed dipping her curly fries in the cheese sauce. This was a nice place not far off the highway and a better alternative on the route than McDonald's or other fast food. Give them a try. read more

I've been eating at Frumpy's off and on over the past decade when visiting relatives in the area, and the place has had its ups and downs with regards to quality and service, but the new management has really impressed me with our last few meals. The specials change often, but don't disappoint and include items such as gumbo, tacos, Cajun specials, and bbq. I Recently had the smoked turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, it was fantastic. Another member of the family stated the catfish was the best they had ever had! Everything is homemade, and you can tell in the taste. They had a pickled cucumber with peppers on one occasion that was delicious. I don't want to leave out a note about the desserts. I typically don't order dessert, but I was intrigued by the peach and blueberry cobbler , and it was great. The next visit I had the bread pudding, (family recipe), and it too was superb. Cheesecake on try number three...not a bad choice between them. Based on these recent experiences Frumpy Joe's has now become a go to location for lunch and dinner when in the area. read more

What a wonderful surprise! Traveling back from Colorado to St. Louis & took a chance despite the mentions of smoking still allowed but that clearly no longer exists. Doesn't smell like smoking was ever allowed in there and I'm very sensitive to smoke smell. The onion rings are so thinly sliced that they are like onion straws but they are a MUST HAVE!!! My husband had the beef tip special which was amazing & full of flavor. Service was exceptional & everyone was very friendly. We will definitely stop in again next time we are passing by! read more

As if eating in a smoke-filled environment isn't bad enough, how about you put a fan right behind the smokers so it all gets blown towards the rest of the diners in the place? Now that the stage has been set ... It was late, most local/non-chain places were closed or closing and we were pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. Frumpy Joe's was our last option, so our choice to stay and eat, to be sure - smoke or no smoke. Ribeye steak was mediocre, especially at $16.50 and the server forgetting to bring the side salad (gave up after two reminders and never did receive it, either). Not Your Average Joe burger (burger+chicken breast+bacon+two cheeses) $10.95 (with fries) was better and a lot of food. Hot pepper cheeseballs ($8.75) were tasty. Most fun of the night was teaching the "bartender" how to make an Old Fashioned cocktail. Would have been a reasonable experience if not for the smoking element. read more

No smoking anymore. No smell, so must have changed a while ago. Almost didn't stop because reviews about smoking, but glad we did. My wife and I both enjoyed the Cowgirl salad. I had the smoked pork chop and really enjoyed it (was a special). My wife had the pork tenderloin sandwich and liked it. Mine came with a piece of home-made bread that was fantastic. My favorite place to eat breakfast and dinner/lunch! This little cafe hidden in the small town of Jonesburg is a real surprise. Inside you will find it has a hometown cafe feel. Pies, locals, food that taste fresh from the farm! Nothing taste processed! The pancakes cover a full round plate. The bacon, the sausage and the burger beef have an amazing flavor, I'd say fresh bacon, sausage and beef not frozen. #2 to my wife's biscuits and gravy ;) Hands down the best non processed tasting American cuisine food within the St. Charles/ Warren/ Montgomery County area. I liked their blueberry pie, freshly made and the ingredients tasted fresh. If you get fries, they come in a selection of regular, curly, crinkled or sweet potato. They have speicials daily and seem like a very fair value with choices to hit your comfort food empty spot. They do have a bar with a fair selection of drinks as well. They keep it clean, no dirty floors/tables observed (during am/early pm) Their breakfast menu is a bit small, but delicious choices. Service is decent, could be a bit faster on refills, but overall it's nothing worth keeping you away from this gem. The staff (which I actually like) act like normal people, not robot employees. I definitely give Frumpy Joe's the #1 spot to those looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Even though it's about 20 mins from Warrenton, it's worth it. Delicious! read more

Took over 45 minutes to get our entrees and when we did I was surprised and disappointed to get my hamburger served on two prices of white bread. The four of us ordered burgers. two came on buns and two came on white Bread. Waitress said they ran out of buns and instead of letting the two of us know she just brought them to the table and asked if it was ok. My bread was not even slightly toasted.
