After getting the complete run around and being quoted $999 for a laptop repair from the Apple store, I decided to give Fruit Fixed a call after a friend recommended. They were very friendly and transparent about what the issue was and the cheapest way to fix it. I decided to bring it to the Carytown location after I was informed that this is the "homebase" location where parts are stored so I could get the quickest turnaround. Fast forward to today, Saturday afternoon, when I finally dropped my laptop for repairs. Not even an hour later, the friendly repair guy said all was done and it was ready for pick up. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They're very quick too. I'm an industrial painter and I use a spray gun, so my phone got over spray in my charging port and headphone jack, causing them not to work. I was almost certain that the parts needed to be replaced, but they were able to clean them out in a very short amount of time. I couldn't be any happier with the service that I received. Anthony and Chris were both really helpful when I brought my laptop in. They showed me exactly what was going on and explained to me all the options for fixing it (broken hinge and screen on a Lenovo). The service was also very speedy considering how broken my laptop was, and they stayed in touch with me and gave me updates throughout the whole process. I definitely recommend this place. They're the only tech place I've gone to where I feel like I'm not getting tricked or scammed. Employees are very courteous and helpful. I had a privacy screen protector that I wanted help installing it on my phone (I'm bad at doing it myself). When entering the store I was greeted and offered to pay to have the protector installed. The employee said it was a quick/easy job so he wouldn't charge me for it. Horrible Integrity ! The worker Javon, told me a lie about their policy. When I came back expecting to utilize what he told me, the owner Justin, didn't honor it even though Javon was present and admitted what he told me. I've never dealt with a company who knows they're wrong and still does nothing to rectify their error, extremely poor ethics! Edit: The Virginia Beach location is closed because nobody was going there, check out the reviews for that location it's also a 1 star. I called the midlothian location days before and asked if I could return it there, I was told yes. There was no fraud, if before purchasing, I asked Javon if I could return the phone if it wasn't working out for me, and he said yes, how is that my error? Lying about a policy and then not following through on what was told, is the issue. You as the owner said you didn't care that he lied to me, and it's crazy that you're still doubling down on it in your response. Once again, horrible integrity Justin. read more

Carrying around a portable battery in your pocket to keep your iPhone from dying within half an hour isn't the most enjoyable thing, but it's something I had gotten used to. However, when the phone decides to start turning off when it gets below 55 degrees or above 80, it was time to take action. While I work in IT, I'm not a hardware guy. Those $30 do-it-yourself kits online are tempting, but the "you exploded your phone / broke an expensive part" possibility is somewhat less appealing. I brought my iPhone 6 into Fruit Fixed after reading the positive reviews around the interwebs and couldn't be more pleased. I came in around 1:00 PM and was out the door with a new battery at 1:15 PM. They charge $65 overall for a battery replacement, which is a bit cheaper than the Apple Store's quote for out of warranty devices. (If your phone is in warranty, you'll probably want to do that though.) I can't vouch for the quality of the battery compared to one you'd get with a new iPhone, but they promote quality "True Original Parts". I can say, however, that my phone that used to go from 100% to 0% in about an hour with no use at all now can last all day again. The staff there also seems very knowledgeable and kept conversation with customers that came in and had questions. I believe Chris was my tech, and he seemed to know his stuff. I'll definitely update my review if some sort of unspeakable evil happens to my phone as a result of the replacement battery, but as it stands now I definitely support Fruit Fixed and will be returning if I need anything out of warranty serviced again. read more

Friendly fruit fixed folks greet you as you walk in the door. They work quickly and will show you what is wrong. Their pricing is reasonable. They work on Apple , Samsung and other phones, tablets, etc. There is not much of a sitting area so we usually go to Nacho Mamas or one of the other shops on Cary Street. Repairs can often be made while you wait within an hour or so. They also have convenient evening hours. And are located near a parking deck. I highly recommend them. read more

I took my Blackberry KeyOne in on Monday because the space bar came apart. I was promised that they would overnight a new keyboard and I could bring it in in the morning. I was also promised this on Tuesday and on Wednesday. When the keyboard finally arrived on Thursday, I was told the repair would take two hours and I could come and pick it back up before closing. Half an hour before closing I was told it would be today (Friday). I can't complain as much as I was going to because they charged me $40 less than they first quoted me, but it seems these people have a problem with making promises they cannot keep. The screen of my iPad 2 was completely obliterated. I called around town to at least 10 shops to get the best deal on getting it fixed. Finally, I ran across Fruit Fixed, owned by Justin, on Yelp. I gave him a call and he went out of his way to explain the process to me and give me an accurate quote. . He even understood when I made a fool of myself by not knowing which iPad I had. When I mentioned the yelp offer he immediately knowledged it and stated that he would honor it (I know that's what owners are supposed to do but so often they don't). With the coupon it ended up being the same as a competitor but I went with him because of his professionalism and warm demeanor over the phone. When I went in person, even though I spoke to him three days prior, he still remembered who I was and the issue I was having. He fixed the iPad in a very respectable window of time (same day service) and even stayed open a few minutes late so that I could get there after work to pick up my iPad. When I arrived he patiently explained the damage to the iPad and another issue that was occurring. He offered to repair it but was honest about the possible outcomes and honestly stated it wasn't the best option for me. How often do you have a business owner to do right by the client instead of looking out for their own financial interests? Very rarely! Justin went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied and comfortable with the repairs before charging me. With the yelp check-in coupon the total for the screen replacement was only $90 which included tax. That's much more than I can say for other businesses around the Greater Richmond area that are charging upwards of $135 for the same repair. He assured me that if I had any more questions or concerns, I could contact him and even gave me his business card with a number that connects directly to his cell. Outstanding customer service! If your tablet or phone is broken and seems unsalvageable take it to him first to see if he can fix it. He also sells accessories including tempered glass screen protectors (which I procured) to make sure this doesn't happen again. Support this well-run business! read more

Always had to call them repeatedly to try to get updates on any repairs despite them saying they would call. We're done with Fruit Fixed. Decided to try Promac and so glad I did. When I was researching Richmond places to get my phone fixed, I was surprised to come across this listing with a 5-star average. That usually indicates something unusual with the review process. As a recent customer here, I did discover the reason for this very uncommon score: this place is an awesome business from top to bottom. First of all, I thought it was pretty cool that this business will give you a quote for your work right through Yelp, so I took full advantage of it. WITHIN 30 MINUTES of my quote request, I got an extremely pleasant response from the owner, Justin, who said that my particular issue (a messed up audio jack on my iPhone 5S) was no sweat and that they could do it for $55 and perform the repair right there while I wait. Fast response, clear price quote, and friendly as well? That's an awesome start. I came to the store a few days later to address the issue (no call ahead needed, just showed up). Parking was available at the garage less than a block away north of Cary street, adding to the convenience of the experience. When I went inside, I was greeted warmly and realized that one of the two people hard at work on phones at the front desk was the owner. We talked a bit, I filled out a page of liabilities (this isn't an Apple repair center, so you have to sign to indicate work here might invalidate service agreements), and they got to work on my phone. I even got $5 off my service for the check-in offer on Yelp! (For those who dropped their devices and messed up their screens, they sell cases here too so you don't have to repeat the mistake!) Justin and I talked a bit about the business and I learned about phones while he worked on it. He seemed to genuinely enjoy talking about it and it was really cool learning more about the industry and how they fit into the equation. Despite people coming in every so often while they were working on repairs, he took care of customers quickly and warmly, and gave them candid responses about what they could expect to pay and how long the work would take. Before long, he had fixed my phone and it sounded great when I tested it there. An experience which could have been aggravating anywhere else was simple, pleasant, and affordable here. All in all, this is a great local business, one definitely deserving your patronage. Seriously, even if I move and have an issue with my phone there, I will try to figure out a way to get it fixed here. I can't speak their praises enough. Overall: 5.0 stars -------------- Pros: - Unbeatable customer service. The owner/operator Justin LOVES his business and he makes it clear he's willing to put in the work to see that it succeeds. - Quick repairs on the spot while you wait is so great, and a world away from companies that want you to mail your phone or survive without it for weeks. - They use actual Apple parts, no shortcuts here (again, a rarity). - Interior of the store is attractive, and the music and magazines make it easy to entertain yourself while you wait for your repair (though the owner is a pleasure to talk to as well). - Easy parking at the garage one block to the north of here. You know what really sets businesses apart these days? A warm personality and genuine care for customers. These guys are SO nice. You feel welcomed everytime you come in and like a friend when you leave. I had them replace my cracked iphone screen a few months ago and they replaced it on my lunch break within 30 minutes. We decided to add a tempered glass screen protector and I was on my way. Fast forward to two days ago and I dropped my phone again (wtf!!). The screen cracked.. even under the protector. I walked in today to see what my options were and we decided it's probably in my best interest to keep this protector on until I'm ready to replace the screen again. I'll most likely be back in a month or so to do that. Zero pressure and they even offered to apply a discount if I come back. Great job guys! Thanks for setting the bar high. read more

The screen on my iPhone shattered. I explored a number of options ranging from buying a new phone to utilizing my phone insurance for a replacement phone. The latter option would still cost $150 and would have taken several days and a fair amount of hassle. The new phone option was tempting, but silly. The phone I have (iPhone 6s) works perfectly fine for me. Regardless of whether I could afford it, it just couldn't justify it. So, I wound up at Fixed Fruit on a Tuesday evening. I left my phone, went to the grocery store, and when I returned my phone was repaired. I spent $185 to replace the screen and purchase a screen protector. I could have saved $30 by choosing a refurbished screen. Am I happy about having to spend the money? No. But I am thrilled with the service provided by Fixed Fruit. They were super nice, helpful and delivered on time. Reading other reviews where customers had problems, it's clear Fixed Fruit cares about its work and its customers. I highly recommend. read more

I took my Google pixel to two other shops prior to stopping by fruit fixed. Each were unable to repair my phone which involved a SIM card falling between the screen and the board. The technician at fruit fixed spent about 5 or 10 minutes testing options and within another 5 minutes had my SIM card out and had me back in business and on my way out the door. Perhaps I was fortunate to catch him at the right time (no line ) but I'm eternally grateful for the help with what I was expecting to be a much more complicated matter. I have given this location so much of my business that the fact that my last interaction was so disappointing is hard to get past. I took my iPad to then because the home button was acting up. There were no other issues with my iPad. They fixed the button, however I've had problem after problem since (restarting itself, not charging, etc). When I contacted fruit fixed about the issues they said it wasn't due to them as they only fixed the home button. I have a hard time with this since there were no problems before. They would not budge, so now I've paid for a repair that has left my iPad practically useless. THANKS read more

My husband's iPhone 6 would not charge consistently. He took it to ATT and they told him, with his phone insurance, that it would cost $125 to send the phone away for diagnostic/repair. Then he took his phone to Fruit Fixed. They pulled lint out from the charger port. He was embarrassed but extremely happy with the service at Fruit Fixed. To be fair I've had a lot of good experiences with this store and have recommended them to many people. I had my first bad experience that has left me feeling taken advantage of. We asked that a verbal quote be given to us before work began. Work was completed without this happening. Frankly I might have declined the repair and left the device in a bag of rice for a month, as it is not a primary device for us. No attempt to compromise was given other than to return device to an inoperable state. A discount was rejected outright. No offer to appeal was given. "you signed the waiver" was thrown in my face. The tech was so defensive, I didn't get a warm fuzzy that he cared at all. No response has been received from email sent to the Fruit Fixed main site (though that could still happen.) I liken this to dropping your car off to the mechanic, agreeing that they will call first with a price before work begins, having them repair the car anyway, and then presenting you with a bill if you want to get your car back. I wonder how many of those iPhones for sale might be available because of similar circumstances. This is not an accusation, but I would recommend checking other reviews to see if this is a pattern. I do not know if it is nor not. This situation is really unfortunate because they have done great and timely work in the past. I am so disappointed and I hope this is just a botched interaction by one person who declined the opportunity to take ownership of his mistake. Mistakes happen, but how a business deals with its mistakes is what really matters. Fruit Fixed management, I hope you read this. I hope this feedback helps you in some way. In response to store owner: Thanks for the reply. Your tech said that he would call with a price estimate before work began and he did not do that. Whether he mentioned a pre-estimate or not is irrelevant. We never got the call. I care little about the waiver. This isn't a legal issue. It's a customer satisfaction issue. I would note that when we turned the device off immediately the screen was functional. Your tech was offering to bring it back to original state in which he claimed the screen was inoperable. It might have been. Who knows? Did he short it out? Hard to tell. So, your perspective on what original state is, is quite different than what mine is. I'm still left feeling taken advantage of. Your tech's version of the story and our version of the story is obviously different and you're siding with your tech. Good for you. I think it's notable how you aren't addressing my core concern. Your business didn't do what it said it was going to do. It's that simple. At this point, I don't want a discount, refund or anything from you. Thanks for all of the great work in the past. But, alas, it is time for us to part ways. Note added 5/20: In response to the claim that your employee gave us a pre-estimate: This is not correct. He said something very similar to, "with water damage it's impossible to give that estimate. I'll call you after I open up the device." Simply put, we were never given a pre-estimate as you claim. You can either believe him or us. One good employee is worth more than one good customer, in my opinion. I respect that you're siding with your employee as customers often lie. You probably believe your employee over me and didn't have the whole picture. OK. I get that. The workers here don't know how to ground themselves. I came in for a power button repair and got a phone back that had a fried and now won't turn on at all. They told me that the motherboard fried when in their care but had the gall to try to sell me a refurbished phone while still charging me for the repairs they did. I heard great things about this place so when my child spilled water on our computer, I took it there. I was told that the keyboard/touchpad component needed to be replaced. I authorized them to do so and waited for the service to be complete. When I got the computer back, neither the keyboard or touchpad were working. I called the store to tell them that it was not working in the asked me to bring it back in. After that, several emails and phone calls went unreturned so I went up there for the fourth time during the process to ask him about the part. They informed me that the part that they replaced it with was faulty and they had to order another one. I did ask why no one returned any calls and they said oh well we're sorry about that. Also asked whether or not they check the part prior to collecting my $400 and they said they did yet as soon as I got home the part did not work. Once again, several phone calls went unreturned. I had to go up there for about the sixth time to find out the progress of this second replacement part. It finally came in and I took home. Upon trying to use it the first time, I realize that I had no Internet connection. I went to the Wi-Fi setting and it said that no Wi-Fi hardware was installed. I called them once again, and was told to bring back, again. I was originally told it would be a quick fix and that I could wait as they took care of it. I decided to drop it off anyway because I had errands to run. I didn't hear anything else about the computer so I had to call back again to check on the progress of the Wi-Fi situation. I was then told that the Wi-Fi card was damaged due to the water and it it would cost more money to replace it. The Wi-Fi was working before during and after the initial process. It took this last trip up there for the Wi-Fi to go bad. I spoke with the manager and told him my frustrations of the number of trips up there the number of the number of phone calls and emails that went unreturned and he said he understood but the part still needed to be replaced because of the water damage. He said it would take a day or two. I just left there after almost 2 weeks for them to tell me that the work has not been done yet. I said it should've been done in two days based on your managers comments and he said well I don't see that anywhere in the notes. I've had zero concern or customer service from this group. Each visit I've gotten the impression that I was putting them out when I walked into their stores They disappear to the back for 10-15 minutes and then come back like they couldn't even find the computer. My phone had been cracked for quite sometime but I guess the last drop made it unusable. I called around trying to get quotes and fruit fix was the cheapest. They fixed it in a timely manner and everything was great. Fast forward a couple of days and the phone started acting weird. Keyboard glitches, wouldn't react to touch...things like that. Now I take full responsibility in that I did not take it back immediately but I did not think much of the glitches. Today I woke up to a cracked phone. My phone has been laying next to my bed all morning so there is no way it fell. Brandon on the phone was very unhelpful and quoted me a "discounted price" that is the same price listed online. Brushed my teeth this morning and dropped my iPhone 6+ off the counter onto tile. Needless to say, I didn't have a case and the external glass cracked. Shopped around in the morning time and decided to give these guys at Fruit Fixed a call. Within 20 minutes of walking in and showing them my issue, they replaced the screen and I was on my way. Professional, clean cut and easy to work with. Hopefully I don't have to use them again, but I highly recommend them. Cost to replace screen + install glass screen protector = $200. read more

Hoping I'm not alone with this complaint. I had gone years without cracking an iPhone screen until a month ago when I dropped my iPhone 5. A good friend suggested Fruit Fixed. So on July 26, 2015, I visited their Carytown location and paid them $80 to replace the glass on my iPhone 5. I was initially pleased. The replacement screen looked and performed like new and I enthusiastically said positive things about Fruit Fixed to my family, friends, and coworkers. Seven short weeks later, my replacement screen developed a small, single hairline crack in the upper left hand corner. There was no impact, no drop, no dent, no abuse, nothing beyond normal wear and tear. I just happened to look down at my phone one day to see the screen was cracked (again, just 60-days after having it replaced.) I went online and researched what could have caused my replacement screen to "spontaneously" crack. There were a number of discussion forums and blogs indicating that some replacement screens are thinner, or un-tempered, or both causing them to break much easier. Similarly, I found out that improperly installed glass causing the screen to take on too much stress and cause it to break under normal use. In any of these situations, there would never be any way for a customer like me to be able to know for sure what happened. The only thing I can say for certain is that this replacement screen broke much easier than any original iPhone part I have owned in the past. In fact, I've had every generation of the iPhone since the 2G (2007) and never experienced something like this before. I can only say that if an iPhone replacement screen were somehow inferior, I would never be able to tell the difference. I went back to Fruit Fixed on September 13, 2015 with my broken iPhone and receipt in hand and told the service technician on duty what happened. He explained that they do not warranty their replacement screens against breaks resulting from normal, everyday use and that the screen could be repaired at my expense. I left upset and frustrated. Later that day, the owner called. He explained to me that screen cracks don't just happen and offered a free replacement only if I deleted my negative review from Yelp. I'm not a fan of this "something for something" approach to customer service and respectfully declined. I hope anyone considering an iPhone screen replacement will take this complaint in the helpful spirit in which it is meant. read more
