Everybody loves Frugals. It's crazy - as I've moved from place to place in my life, I've met so many people from different areas that have tried an enjoyed a Frugals burger!! I grew up about 10 min away, so it surprises me. The prices are cheap and the food is great. Customer service - A+. Even with a long, varied order (like my family's), they always get it right. Everything is amazing! The restaurant did have an incident where they had some sanitation concerns but they corrected it quite quickly and thoroughly. I have lived in Tacoma all my life and recently moved to Portland. I easily justify driving 2.5hrs to pick up some burgers from here. The food is absolutely amazing and for a relatively cheap price (cheaper than most of the major fast food chains.) unfortunately there is 0 seating options but the building is very unique and easily identifiable. read more

This is my go to spot. Expect the line to be long. They have a double lane but they both are always long. Great food. The shakes are so thick and good. The servers at the window are always nice. The food is cooked to order. Even the soda products are always fresh. There should be more of these. read more

Thank you Frugals!!!! This Philly cheesesteaks and cheeseburger were on point! Lay the lady who took our order was a doll and so nice! I have just ate at an expensive restaurant and where you would expect top level service and it did not happen at all. However!!! Lay brought top dining customer service. Hope the owners see this review because in times like this it is difficult to retain good folks. Onto the flavor of these items!! Yummy yummy yummy. The only critique I would give is sauté vegis a tad but more on cheesesteak and add some spice options. But these are just suggestions and nothing to cause a reduced star. Keep up the great service. My only disappointment was the fries. Didn't remind me of a potato. Too overdone? The milkshake could've used a bit more shaking too. History

Established in 1988.

Extensive research was completed before the first Frugals was built. Traffic patterns, demographics, menu items, and building layouts were all analyzed. A surprising discovery was that a high percentage of the customers purchased food at the drive-up window. With the knowledge gained. Frugals was born! The concept of a double drive-through, which would allow for faster service and lower over-head costs, was developed. The result has been a great, old-fashioned burger at a "frugal" price. Frugals operates from a small, attractive, retro, stainless steel building with service windows on both sides. There is no inside seating. The first unit was opened in Port Angeles, Washington, in June 1988, and was immediately popular. It was followed in September 1990, by a second unit in Tacoma, Washington; again popularity and profitability were instantly apparent.

Meet the Business Owner: Peter and Sheila S.

Peter B.Steware and Sheila G. Stewart are sole owners of the companies. They both play key roles in the decision making process and in the on-going expansion and finacing of new units. Sheila has over 30 years experience in the restaurant industry. Peter has extensive experience in operation, sales and investments. The Stewarts have been involved in owning and operating eight restaurants.

Drinks and chips are offered at a seperate price. Parking is very limited, and The building needs some work. The eating area is small but okay, the tables were mainly a waiting area for take out, but for those of us who did eat in, the tables were not wiped down once while we were there, and the floor needed a desperate sweep. The wait was a bit long but they were very busy (a very good sign) take out orders are many, and for the most part only 1 person dedicated to making sandwiches. Suggestions: You're busy! Hire more people to make sandwiches and Dedicate someone to the register and taking care of the lobby area, clearing tables, sweeping etc. Honestly, the concept is ideal, and the food is great and can only get better with time. This is always one of my favorite burger place. Yesterday their customer service stepped up to a whole new level. as I was towing a trailer I could not go through the drive thru. I parked in the lot and walked up to the window. I place my order 3 number 5's two cokes one chocolate shake. Because I had walked up it's through their system a little out of whack. They gave my order to a car that had gone through the drive thru. It took them a little bit longer to replace my order. For my troubles in the time that It took, the manager gave me a healthy discount. I don't judge people on the mistakes that they make I judge them on how they correct them. read more

I absolutely love eating Frugals on my lunch break or after work! I've never had a problem with waiting too long for an order, I think the longest I've waited at the window was about 5 minutes. And that was a 4 person order, each of us getting a combo. I die for the Mushroom burger it's so good! My only complaint is that every once in awhile, the burgers can be waaaay too greasy, but this only happens 1 of 5 times so i probably caught them RIGHT before the grill was wiped. Just not good.. I've been eating at frugals since I was young. I hadn't in many years. I did tonight with my family. They were not busy at all we were the only ones there. I got the chicken club not breaded. The chicken was super thin and like rubber. My bacon was really burnt as was my daughters. I can't believe what people get away with serving. Plus it took like 20 min. The best part was the butter finger skake. But you can't screw up a shake! read more

We were in Washington visiting family and decided to go here for burgers. A friend referred us and it was everything we were looking for in that moment. Drive thru was perfect because of the rain. Prices were great; 50$ bucks fed 7 of us. I personally ordered the chicken sandwich with an Oreo shake and it was delicious. Do not think it is fare that almost all ratings, I have given to numerous local business are not showing up. This is a great burger place. Yelp seems to only show mostly bad ratings or rating by people who seem to live on here. How does this help people find cool new places. Just hurts own local business. wouldnt ever eat here agin workers taking dab hits in drive thru employes openly smoking weed while they are at work thats somtihg to be done outside of work u work with food also there is a vedio going around on u guys doing it at work so thats more reason to avoid this place if they do that and make a video i can only guess at what they would do to your food read more

This Frugal's looks rather divey from the outside, yet the lines move fast and the burgers are always delicious. They prove that you don't have to be fancy or a large chain operation to serve good food and to serve it fast. It's better than most of the large outfits. While we don't have a Dick's in the area, this place does the job nicely. read more

I'll go here instead of Burger King or McDonalds any day. I've never been disappointed in the burgers or shakes. They have two drive through lanes, and if you take the left, its a little strange picking up your order through the passenger window. Sometimes the fries can be a little dry, but its not too common. read more

AMBIANCE Not much for ambiance. It's just a burger stand with uncovered tables and chairs. I believe most people just use the drive thru. SERVICE I ordered at the drive thru. It's just like any other drive thru experience. There was one vehicle in front of me. It took about 10 min to get my food from the time I ordered, waiting for the customer in front of me, and paying the woman at the window. One note I'd like to make is that I was told they do not accept Capital One credit cards, which I found extremely weird. I thought she meant Mastercard so I was going to give her a Capital One card with Visa, but she was adamant that it was specifically Capital One that doesn't work. I didn't feel like arguing so I just used a different card. FOOD So I got myself a Philly cheesesteak. I've read the burger was good too so I also got a double cheeseburger meal. The cheesesteak was decent. All around had good flavor. The cheese was slightly overpowering in my opinion, but I didn't mind it. I just wish the cheesesteak was a little bigger. The burger was okay. It didn't really stand out compared the other options in the area. I personally enjoyed the cheesesteak more. The fries were good. Better than your average fast food fries. OVERALL I might come back. It's kinda out of the way from where I live and I have so many other options. But it's not a bad stop if I'm already in the area and in the mood for a cheesesteak.

But they hold a lot of seats inside their storefront right next door. We were able to enjoy cold crisp air conditioning and a clean place to sit while eating. Our fries were flavorful and crispy. The cheeseburgers were incredibly delicious/seasoned savory. It was the perfect place to stop by while shopping for toys and comic books, thrifting for clothes, and eating ice cream. The manager is such a great guy, who loves the city and his community. He goes out of his way to making sure customers are enjoying what they order. We will be back!
