What I appreciate most is no hassle or pressure for buying into the membership. Hence the 5 stars. Raymond was very polite & made me feel comfortable by offering to try other makes/brands to see what will the best shoe fit. I ended up buying two pairs. I've purchased single pairs before & regretted not buying a second pair coz I liked the fit so much. Learnt that lesson well. Happy with this experience today

I did, and I was later told that the Torrance manager and team had "touched base" with me, which is inaccurate. The only interaction I had with the store after my purchase was when I returned the same day to try to return the shoes. No one from the store ever contacted me afterward to follow up or try to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, no resolution was offered. Still the worse experience I've ever had. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. ---- Road Runner Sports started as a promising experience but turned into one of the most frustrating customer service situations I've had. I came in to buy running shoes, and the initial process seemed great. The associate scanned my feet (which was actually pretty cool), had me try insoles, and brought out three shoe options that fit my profile. However, communication was difficult, he was mostly mumbling, and I had to repeatedly ask him to clarify what he was saying. When I decided on a pair of ASICS, he immediately tried to upsell the insoles (around $120), even though I had only tried the shoes with those insoles, not with the original ones. That felt a bit misleading. At checkout, he also pushed the VIP membership, saying it would give me 90 days to try the shoes and return them if needed, making it sound like that flexibility depended on being a member. We declined. When I got home and tried to run in the shoes, I couldn't even last 90 seconds, they just didn't work for me. We called the store (using the number listed online) and were told that as long as the shoes looked brand new, we could return them. That gave us confidence to go back. Unfortunately, the in-store experience during the return was completely different. The associate told us: * The shoes did not qualify as "brand new" * We could not get a refund to the original payment method unless we were members * The only option was a gift card Then, again, we were offered the membership as a solution. The inconsistency between what we were told on the phone and what happened in-store, combined with the repeated upselling, made this a very frustrating experience. What started as a helpful, professional fitting ended with unclear policies and poor communication.

All that's left is Big 5 and Dick's. REI doesn't count, as they're too niche. This location has a lot of merchandise and it's inherent problem is the aesthetics of the layout of the store. It's way too crowded and cramped for shopping and could use an expansion and makeover where it feels well-lit and spacious. It's sort of the difference between Target and Wal-Mart. I think Big 5 could use new branding as a company. It's a good store with good prices. They do "over coupon" as Bed Bath and Beyond did. You can always anticipate a $5 off of $15 type value-pac FSI mailer coupon and almost won't shop without a coupon. It's a longterm flawed business strategy. Their prices are quite good in many ways. I went shopping for shoes and they had shoes on sale for $30-40 where I went next door to DSW and most of their comparable shoes were $50-55. You'd think DSW whose only business is selling shoes, would have a competitive edge, but it doesn't and didn't, at least for active/athletic shoes compared to Big 5. I'd say check Big 5 out first or last, but don't buy any shoes until you've visited a Big 5 like this one. Parking is fairly easy in this outdoor strip mall of sort, that has a Sizzler, Harbor Freight and other businesses.

I asked if they carried the 1080s in a size 7.5 in black. She asked if I wanted the regular width or wide version. I didn't know there were options, but having wider feet, I asked for the wide one. She left and returned with two pair of shoes in different widths. One regular and one extra wide. The extra wide one fit like a glove. She gave me time to try them on and walk around. She then came back to check up on me. The selection here is very good. I had scouted the 1080s in a specific color and size online and this store had them. In terms of value, I would also say I got a good deal on these shoes. Six months ago, on the website, these shoes were selling for $165. I got mine here for $100. Some final thoughts: The man at checkout was very nice. He did want us to provide an email for the receipt. Apparently if you lose your physical receipt, you can still return your shoes with the emailed receipt. I had no intention of returning the shoes so passed on providing the email, but this may be something for you to consider if you're not entirely sure those shoes you're buying are keepers. Also, please be aware that the shoes are organized on the walls by shoe models, not male or female.

This is a beautifully designed store with a good selection of products but the staff doesn't seem all that interested in providing customers with a good experience. The first time we came in to buy shoes we had to actively search for someone to help us. While they were friendly and responsive to our requests to try on shoes the person seemed a bit distracted and not that knowledgeable about the products. The second time we were there, we had a problem with the shoes we bought on our first visit and were looking for a solution. The shoes were about four months old and the inside of the heel had collapsed. We wanted to just exchange them for a new pair since it had been such a short time since the original purchase. The person at the counter was dismissive. When I explained the problem with the product she did not acknowledge the defect even though it was quite easy to see. She explained that the in-store exchange/return policy was 60 days I asked if they might be able to help me online or at their customer service phone number and she said she didn't know but that I should leave and Google it. Not a great experience. I sat down inside the store and called customer service and connected with the nicest, most helpful customer service person ever who immediately did her best to understand the issue with the shoes and let me know she would do everything she could to help me. Since the product failed, we were well within the time limit to return the shoes for a full refund. The return window is much longer online or on the phone. She also made me aware that the original product we purchased was now on sale so she helped me return the defective product and then helped me purchase a replacement at the new sale price. It could not have been a more perfect experience. I would recommend trying products on in the store and then buying online or over the phone. The customer service in the store doesn't make shopping there worthwhile unless you don't want to wait for the shoes to be shipped to you. Love all the Nike styles just would like a better in-store experience.
