BIG 5 seems like an antiquated sporting goods store from yesteryear, but it's outlasted it's peer competitors like Sports Chalet, Copeland's, Sports Authority, and so many others. All that's left is Big 5 and Dick's. REI doesn't count, as they're too niche. This location has a lot of merchandise and it's inherent problem is the aesthetics of the layout of the store. It's way too crowded and cramped for shopping and could use an expansion and makeover where it feels well-lit and spacious. It's sort of the difference between Target and Wal-Mart. I think Big 5 could use new branding as a company. It's a good store with good prices. They do "over coupon" as Bed Bath and Beyond did. You can always anticipate a $5 off of $15 type value-pac FSI mailer coupon and almost won't shop without a coupon. It's a longterm flawed business strategy. Their prices are quite good in many ways. I went shopping for shoes and they had shoes on sale for $30-40 where I went next door to DSW and most of their comparable shoes were $50-55. You'd think DSW whose only business is selling shoes, would have a competitive edge, but it doesn't and didn't, at least for active/athletic shoes compared to Big 5. I'd say check Big 5 out first or last, but don't buy any shoes until you've visited a Big 5 like this one. Parking is fairly easy in this outdoor strip mall of sort, that has a Sizzler, Harbor Freight and other businesses. read more

I had a frustrating experience with this store because their hours are completely inaccurate. According to Google Maps, they close at 9:00 PM, but when I actually went in person, I was told they close at 8:30 PM. That's a big difference, especially for people who plan their time around what's listed online. It's really inconvenient to show up expecting to have time to shop, only to feel rushed or turned away earlier than expected. Businesses should make sure their hours are updated and consistent across all platforms, because customers rely on that information. This situation wasted my time and was honestly very disappointing. Would leave no stars if I could!!! We came to return a basketball that was clearly defective. We didn't notice it immediately because the ball was for my toddlers. We noticed something was wrong when the ball wouldn't bounce straight. By the time we noticed the ball was dirty from being bounced outside. We came to this big 5 to do an even exchange for a new ball. We showed the first associate the defect and he instructed us to get a new ball so he could process the exchange. After inspecting our ball he even agreed that the ball was defective, not damaged from use. When we returned with the new ball, Joseph came out of no where and said they could not accept our ball because it's dirty and not in re-sellable condition. We tried showing him the defect and he kept insisting that it was damaged from use. How would a 3 year old be able to damage a ball that was just purchased a couple days ago?! We asked him how could they sell the ball when there's clearly a defect. He stood his ground and instructed us to call spalding for a replacement. We went to another big 5 the same night and they took our defective ball with out hesitation. Not sure how this big 5 has stayed open. Save yourself the hassle and go to Dick's sporting goods. They have associates that are actually knowledgeable in sports and sports equipment!!! read more

I went to TURNERS to buy some shotgun shells. The guy at the counter was very rude and said take a number and followed up with its gonna be like an hour and a 1/2. Im like to buy ammo, he laughed. Well, I returned the next day. The same guy said 1.5 hours to wait. I bailed and went across the street to BIG 5. The manager was very professional. I got the same ammo for less cash. But more importantly. He did my back ground check and had me out of there in 10 minutes. I will be shopping at BIG 5 from now on. read more

I'd like to say this is one of the best Big 5 stores I have ever visited. I was helped by Marco and Diana. They were incredible and I can't thank them enough for making my shopping experiment so wonderful. They are both great ambassadors to this location and to the brand, Big 5. This is by far the very best location I've been to. Why do I say? For one, when you look up items online and could go right into the store and find them and not just find them but can locate the product by category that's a plus. Do NOT go to this store. They lie and they do not help fix problems. Mario sold me a pair of cleats that they did not have in stock but told me they would be on the next truck. When I called to follow up, they had not arrived. He said they would come the following week. I checked again and still nothing. I called almost daily to check on the status and then finally went in. They were unwilling to help, would not order the cleats for delivery, and would not give me another pair of cleats instead. Mario, the assistant manager, was unwilling to consider the time I had waited or the fact that I was sold a pair of cleats that they did not have. Rode up on Lazarus style, not to shabby, yet not to vain, but on a bike. Locked it up, needless to say outside the glass front door entrance. Thought nothing of it, continued to go inside. Of course met with the usual courtesy greeting of, "Welcome to Big 5." Said thanks and continued to go into some isles. While in one of the isles, was met by a fair, young lady who asked me "if I needed any help?" I said no, just browsing around. So.. she turned to leave the place where we were, and quickly turned the corner exiting the isle. So I proceeded to exit the isle as well. However upon embarking round the corner, caught a glimpse of her speaking with another store employee, could overhear her saying with her thumb pointing to the rear, that "he should keep an eye on that one!" Of course was in shock, not to mentioned traumatized a bit because I don't steal, so I was shocked and dismayed to say the least. So as I wondered the store, all the time pondering what just took place in my head, started to get an uneasy feeling that perhaps I should just not be here, and started to go out the door. I walked into Big 5 today to find two things. I asked the first person I saw, asking if you carried them. This person was smug, rude, and acted like I was wasting his time. After answering a quick "no" to my first question, he turn away immediately that I had to follow him to ask my last question -- I was looking for a wagon cart. Rude again. Confused again. I then learned that he was a manager in training -- WHY??? This is the type of people who get promoted. The only thing that kept me from complaining is that someone stepped in when it was clear he wasn't answering my question. Victoria (or Veronica) is a leader. She stepped in because she knew i wasn't getting answers. She stepped in because she knows what customer service looks like. She then went on to show me everything I was looking for (you actually had all the items but Daniel didn't help). Thank you for your help -- please let her know she is appreciated! The other woman working the counter was very nice too. It's terrible that the "manager-in-training" was the most arrogant, confused, and rude person in the store. It's been a while since I stepped foot in a Big 5 store. But, as always, when I need something specific sporting goods wise, they always have exactly what I need. I was looking for a specific type of volleyball and brand. Closer stores (target/Walmart etc) didn't have it. Big 5 is a little further from me, but my daughter really wanted it. Sure enough, we get there and find exactly what we needed within a few minutes after we walked in. I'll continue to go here for my sporting good needs as their pricing is fair for all of the major brand items they carry. read more

The girl that came over Victoria had the worst possible demeanor, had attitude answering simple questions and when asked the price for something the told me so I ended up buying it not only to realize it was $7 more on the receipt. This is a fairly new store so it's bright, clean, and bigger than their older location that burned down several years ago. Nice selection of all kinds of sporting goods, and good sale prices. Sign up for their email list to get notices of the best sales -- the cashier said to come early for those because it's first come, first served, and they sell out quickly. Because it's a bigger store, the employees don't bother you too much and keep to their restocking and other duties, so you need to hunt them down if you have questions or need help. If you do approach them, they are polite and helpful. At least, this is my experience. Plenty of parking in the big lot shared with Sizzler and other stores. read more

Wonderful sporting goods store! If I want a piece of equipment immediately, this is my go to location. My husband and I bought a fantastic inversion table and free weights (dumbbells) along with some additional side items during these tough COVID times. They were one of the ONLY places to carry the exact items we needed as gym equipment is very difficult to come by here in Los Angeles while everyone is sheltering at home. Jenny in customer service assisted me immediately upon my first phone call to helping me in the store. The pricing for all of our items was very reasonable as well and a nice young associate assisted me in placing our equipment securely in my vehicle. The actual space is large, clean, and new. This store just recently opened, this place used to be The Wherehouse music store. The store is big and has lots of parking as compared to the older Big 5 down the street not sure if they are closing that one or not. Staff was friendly and asked if you needed help more workers on the floor. Stock on stuff is pretty good. I'd be back to shop here. read more

Super nice customer service. Update: had to return some stuff and it was really easy and quick. Just needed my receipt and the item and they credited it back to my credit card. Nice people at the register! I can here looking for those plastic contraptions that kids can slide down sand dunes are. It's not exactly the most common item and I was pretty discouraged that I was coming up empty handed after calling 4 different sporting stores. Big 5 delivered!!! The checkout lady and the man who showed me the sand boards/sleds were nice and helpful. Best of all, the plastic sleds were only $9.99 each. Went in there to get a salt water fishing license. Me and my boyfriend stood in line and when we got to the cashier they were having issues logging into the system so they had us stand to the side while they continued to ring up other guest because the line was long. No problem. After like 5-10 mins. they said that there was no associate in the store with a code to fish and game thing and the next worker with a code wasn't coming for another 30 mins. I'm not sure if they were being completely truthful because they made no attempt to call a manager to help us or contact anyone else. It was really inconvenient and I've never experienced having such issues at Big 5 before. Super annoying, I wish they could have made more of an effort to help. I stop by Big5 about 2-3 times a year hoping to randomly come across new gym gear at affordable prices. Today I came in to see what deals they had. When I first arrived, the staff greeted my and let me know that they were available if I needed any assistance. I walked over to the sportswear section and found that the savings that they were advertising were much of a difference from MSRP. But at the same time, they had other items that were really great deals. I did end up making a purchase and the staff here made it extremely easy to check out. Stopped in here for some last minute gear before hitting the slopes. The selection wasn't bad for a smaller shop trying to have a little bit of everything and prices were a little high, but not ridiculous. The two stars are for the customer service, or lack there of. There was one girl working the front with one or two additional people off the sales floor. I had to ask her two separate questions while we were there and both times she was just blissfully disconnected. The first was to open a dressing room. My cousin had to track her down to get her to open the door and she did so without ever acknowledging my presence. Just walked up, entered the key code in the door and walked off. Thanks. The second question was if they carried wrist guards. Her response " Maybe, if we do they'll be back there (nodding to the back right corner of the store with no further description or assistance). There were only three groups of customers in the whole store. Us, a man and his young son, and an elderly couple. As I was checking out, the elderly woman asked about the sizing on a pair of boots and if she could try them on and the girl again vaguely directed her to the back quadrant of the store. She only ever left the register to open my dressing room. If your business requires one employee to physically guard the register at all times maybe consider stepping out of the back to offer some customer service or hiring an employee that actually cares. read more

Easy parking and not so bad location. The weekly sales are terrific. Great price point for sports gear when it's that sports season.
