Update: After I left this review (that I also left on Google), Road Runner Sports asked me to email…read morethem. I did, and I was later told that the Torrance manager and team had "touched base" with me, which is inaccurate. The only interaction I had with the store after my purchase was when I returned the same day to try to return the shoes. No one from the store ever contacted me afterward to follow up or try to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, no resolution was offered. Still the worse experience I've ever had. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. ---- Road Runner Sports started as a promising experience but turned into one of the most frustrating customer service situations I've had. I came in to buy running shoes, and the initial process seemed great. The associate scanned my feet (which was actually pretty cool), had me try insoles, and brought out three shoe options that fit my profile. However, communication was difficult, he was mostly mumbling, and I had to repeatedly ask him to clarify what he was saying. When I decided on a pair of ASICS, he immediately tried to upsell the insoles (around $120), even though I had only tried the shoes with those insoles, not with the original ones. That felt a bit misleading. At checkout, he also pushed the VIP membership, saying it would give me 90 days to try the shoes and return them if needed, making it sound like that flexibility depended on being a member. We declined. When I got home and tried to run in the shoes, I couldn't even last 90 seconds, they just didn't work for me. We called the store (using the number listed online) and were told that as long as the shoes looked brand new, we could return them. That gave us confidence to go back. Unfortunately, the in-store experience during the return was completely different. The associate told us: * The shoes did not qualify as "brand new" * We could not get a refund to the original payment method unless we were members * The only option was a gift card Then, again, we were offered the membership as a solution. The inconsistency between what we were told on the phone and what happened in-store, combined with the repeated upselling, made this a very frustrating experience. What started as a helpful, professional fitting ended with unclear policies and poor communication.

Another Saturday and it's not as busy today, barely waited less than 5 minutes when Lorenzo approached us & offered assistance. No muss no fuss. As per usual there's the push for yearly membership, but he didn't press it & I appreciated it. Lorenzo was kind & attentive. I pointed to the custom insole, Lorenzo had it warmed in the machine then I stood on it to make the impression, one & done. Decidedly, why not get two pairs before it rises to an incredible $150 per pair? And we're off. Hubby got them for me, woohoo! It's a 12 hour shift but in reality, I'm on these puppies at least-4 hrs- BRUTAL! Parking is plentiful which is shared with other businesses. One errand DONE, scratch off the list Yay!

BIG 5 seems like an antiquated sporting goods store from yesteryear, but it's outlasted it's peer…read morecompetitors like Sports Chalet, Copeland's, Sports Authority, and so many others. All that's left is Big 5 and Dick's. REI doesn't count, as they're too niche. This location has a lot of merchandise and it's inherent problem is the aesthetics of the layout of the store. It's way too crowded and cramped for shopping and could use an expansion and makeover where it feels well-lit and spacious. It's sort of the difference between Target and Wal-Mart. I think Big 5 could use new branding as a company. It's a good store with good prices. They do "over coupon" as Bed Bath and Beyond did. You can always anticipate a $5 off of $15 type value-pac FSI mailer coupon and almost won't shop without a coupon. It's a longterm flawed business strategy. Their prices are quite good in many ways. I went shopping for shoes and they had shoes on sale for $30-40 where I went next door to DSW and most of their comparable shoes were $50-55. You'd think DSW whose only business is selling shoes, would have a competitive edge, but it doesn't and didn't, at least for active/athletic shoes compared to Big 5. I'd say check Big 5 out first or last, but don't buy any shoes until you've visited a Big 5 like this one. Parking is fairly easy in this outdoor strip mall of sort, that has a Sizzler, Harbor Freight and other businesses.

When I went into the store and started to look around, a gentleman came out & said someone would be right with me. A few seconds later, Tehani (Assistant Manager) approached me and asked how she could help me. Well she did just that and more!! We did the scan and I was so shocked when she told me my shoe size! I've been wrong all 40 yrs of my life! My right foot is a half size bigger She also had me walk and noticed that my feet leaned inward. Based on the results of the scan & her observation, she recommended Hokas and Brooks. I initially came into the store for the Hoka Gaviota but she suggested the Arahis for me. Unfortunately, they didn't have the size in the color that I wanted so I'll order them online. however, she did also help me with some shoe inserts for my current pair of tennis shoes and some Oofa slides to wear in the house. I'm so used to wear slippers but these slides feel so great on my achy heel and arches. Honestly, my feet already feel a lot better from just from walking with the new inserts. The Oofas were a little more in cost than I saw online but it was so worth the experience and the knowledge I received from Tehani. I would definitely shop with them again. The store is very easy to find when you're driving down Hawthorne and there's PLENTY of parking. All of the staff were welcoming! 5 stars

This was my first time at front runners and I'm so happy I decided to come in here! The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and with their help I was finally able to find a shoe that works! I'm so happy with my purchase and recommend this store to anyone in Torrance looking for new running gear.
