Yelp 100 Challenge 2016 - Review 20 of 100...
I went from hating hats as a kid to currently wearing hats in almost all of my spare time. My mom's side of the family has been told, on many occasions, that we have good hat heads. Ha!
This is a cool lil hat spot close to home. They have a pretty good variety of hat styles AND sizes - I ESPECIALLY appreciate the selection of flat caps, aka paperboy caps, they have in multiple materials and at varying price points. Hats can be expensive, especially when you need extended sizes, but I have found nice paperboys here starting in the low $20 range. The lighter, more summery materials (like linen and straw) tend to be less expensive than the heavier, colder-weather fabrics (like wool and suede). I have seen some cute corduroy options in the $30-45 range.
There is a small sale section in one corner of the store (that has two entrances) that is okay. Limited selection of my preferred style and necessary size but you may be able to find some gems here at a reduced price.
It's a good thing that I started visiting this store after being introduced to the wondrous world of hats and all the magnificent ways they can make and shape your head because the customer service here is very hit or miss. The first several times I'd visited this store, I remember the sales folks being attentive without being overbearing and honest when asked for opinions - everything does not and cannot look good on everyone. The last few times (and especially the most recent) I've visited, the sales associates were just kind of there. There were two who were very closely and rapidly speaking to each other about something obviously not work-related. One finally asked if I needed help after I'd pulled out about seven styles of hats in my size to try - I told her i didn't need help at that time. Later in the visit, I asked her about ordering other sizes which she, seemingly reluctantly, informed me that other sizes can possibly be ordered. I, then, asked her what the material of one particular hat was... she told me what she thought it was after feeling it and looked at me like that should be enough. I ended up looking for my find online (www.villagehatshop.com) before deciding to proceed to purchase it - I had no time to leave my hat-buying decision in her unsure hands.
Parking is okay. I prefer to go during the week, if possible, or early on the weekend to avoid Shoreline Village parking fees. If I remember correctly, you get a couple of hours free with validation, but don't quote me on that - I just know I prefer visiting when I have more time to browse hats rather than search for where to park. If you know you'll partake in some of the other retailers, restaurants, and other activities offered in the surrounding beauty of this Long Beach waterfront, you may be okay visiting during high traffic times. When I'm on a hat mission, I want to get in and out so I strategically plan to shop when I know I can run in and out of the pay-for-parking set up here. Sista don't play when it comes to her headwear! read more
