I recently dined here last week and I am a fan! It's a romantic and classic restaurant. It has booth seating along the walls. Their decor is very classic with historic portraits lining their walls. The lighting is dimmed. The size of the restaurant is enough to seat about 30 to 40 patrons. I came with a huge group and we got to choose from a special menu. Three course meal for £25. They served us bread with butter before we ordered. I ordered: Appetizer: Minted Pea Soup & Ham Hock Croquettes Main Course: Roast Chicken with Garlic Mash & Chanterelles Dessert: Raspberry & White Chocolate Pudding with White Chocolate Ice Cream Drink: Appletini The soup came out very hot and I had to wait for it to cool a bit before eating. It was served in a very antique-like container. The soup was served with three ham hock croquettes . In an American's mind, these look like miniature croissants with ham inside or pigs in a blanket. The main course was my favorite part of the meal! The chicken was so succulent and it made it easy for me to cut into bit sized pieces. The brown and light sauce that was served with it accompanied it very well. The garlic mash was amazing. The only part of this dish that I did not eat was the chanterelles because I have never seen anything like it. I believe it is a type of vegetable. The dessert was okay. I was more excited about the ice cream than the pudding. I'm not a big fan of raspberry. I was expecting pudding, but it was actually more like a muffin stuffed with raspberries. This "muffin" was drizzled with white chocolate sauce served with vanilla ice cream. My appletini was superb. I loved it and wanted to order more. The Appletini was not part of the three course meal deal, but it just cost £7.50. Overall, if I'm ever in the area again, I would definitely visit it again. Definitely the best meal I've had in London.

I can't remember the last time I ate Brawn! That combined with pickled marrow, and followed by fish pie and curly kale was a real surprise in an area like Paddington, just as the reviewer above said! Lovely photographs on the walls, huge windows and enormous lampshades, a very friendly waiter (in a nice way) and a good looking menu. The Brawn was £6.00 the fish pie £15.00 and the half bottle of red £9.00. I was given a 12.5% service charge on top, which seems the norm these days, but I didn't quibble.

A Most Excellent Soho Establishment…read more Having lived in London for upwards of twenty years, and knowing Soho rather intimately, I can say with some confidence that this establishment is a genuine delight. The food was splendid, the service exceedingly proper, and the atmosphere possessed that unmistakable charm which makes Soho such a grand corner of London. I have eaten in no small number of establishments over the years, yet this one has earned a full five stars from me. A thoroughly enjoyable experience from beginning to end, and one I should happily recommend to any gentleman or lady seeking a proper meal in the heart of London. Five stars, without hesitation. -Sir Archibald Beuamont

the poor rating has to do with the rude staff at this location. i'm not sure if he was the owner or…read morea staff member, but there was an older man who was very rude to us when we arrived. we entered the establishment, as that is what you typically do when you want to dine at a restaurant, and he came up the stairs and didn't even offer a greeting. i mentioned that we had a reservation for that time and he immediately just kept repeating that our table was outside. we went outside to their small patio dining area, and saw that there was a table with a "reserved" sign on it, so we sat down. i thought it was incredibly rude that he spoke to us in that manner, and it seemed like he expected us to somehow know that that table was ours before we had even spoken to any staff. i was seriously considering getting up and leaving but i decided to give this place one more chance. it then took a while, but we were eventually served by a much more pleasant and friendly younger server, who helped make this experience better. i would give this place a lower rating, however i must admit that the food was delicious. as an american tentatively wanting to try british bangers and mash, this exceeded my expectations. we all spoke about how the sausage was plump, snappy, and delicious, definitely one of the best we've ever had. the mashed potatoes were also amazing- cheesy and heavenly, and i'm not even usually a mashed potatoes kinda person. i am glad that we stayed solely for the delicious food, but i would not come back because of our experience with the staff here. the place already was one of the emptier spots on this very busy soho street anyway.

wow..... this was .... WOW…read more being from the states and seeing the typical sunday roast advertised on every platform made me NEED to try it for myself. i did copious amounts of research to find the absolute best in London and I can confidently say this. is. IT. we absolutely adored this meal. i shared it with my boyfriend and it was just enough for both of us. FOOD: beef with horseradish, lamb with mint sauce & pork with applesauce: WOW!!!! we absolutely loved this. phenomenally cooked and paired amazingly with the sauces. the Yorkshire pudding, duck fat roast potatoes, a selection of seasonal vegetables and blacklock Gravy were AMAZING!!!! absolutely scrumptious. i dream of the crispy potatoes that were so soft on the inside. vegetables were flavorful and i would swim in the gravy! ATMOSPHERE: coolest joint ever. bathrooms that say "east end boys" and "west end girls". when you enter there is neat decor with record players and low lighting. downstairs was a dimly lit, beautiful cacophony of people laughing, enjoying their meals & the greatest decor ever. it was such a vibe in this establishment! SERVICE: so helpful, fast service and kind people. everyone was so nice there! OVERALL RATING: 100000/10 i would definitely go back. i think back often of this meal and want to cry i crave it so badly! GO! RUN!

By…read morethe time I was planning, the only open reservation was at 2pm so I ended up coming for a late lunch. I opted for the all-in which includes a portion of the beef, lamb and pork roasts. A really great way to try their variety of meats. First, the portion was absolutely huge - I definitely appreciated how much vegetables there were, the roasted brussels and carrots were delicious. Sides were all good - including the roasted potatoes and yorkshire pudding. The star was the meat of course, my favorite ended up being the lamb which was super tender and flavorful. Loved the crispy pork rind that comes with the pork roast slices and the gravy and sauces on the side really rounded out the meal, added a ton of flavor and made it fun to try the different sauces with the variety of meats. Service was great and everything came out really quickly! Definitely would recommend Blacklock to try the famous Sunday roast in London, you can't go wrong here!
