My Experience with Frontier Airlines and flyfrontier.com was the worst experience using an airline service I have ever had. May I note that I fly a pretty fair amount, to the tune of three or four trips each year.
I booked my ticket with Kayak.com for the 12th of Sept. through the 19th of Sept. I had a wedding to photograph on the 20th so I was absolutely certain to book my flight to be home the day before the wedding.
On the 12th of Sept me and my fifteen month old son, (a father and son's first air travel together by ourselves), ventured to the airport, shimmied through security and eventually shuffled on board our plane. I immediately noticed Frontier's new airplane. I would be tempted to say "oooh nice", but it really wasn't. The seats didn't adjust, the new tray tables were the size of a large smart phone and they have moved the seats just ever so closer together. This made for a knee scraping good time.
That was all fine though really, nobody expects to get on a plane and be in the lap of comfort unless you're in first class. The problems all really started when we finally landed at our destination in Des Moines Iowa.
Carrying my twenty eight pound fifteen month old, whom is also three feet tall; we step onto the jet bridge only to see that our nice two hundred dollar stroller no longer rolls. Don't worry the story gets much worse than just a broken stroller. They somehow managed to knock out both springs on the bottom of our Chico Fit jogging stroller which wouldn't allow the wheels to roll. In addition, the gorillas they employ to mangle the baggage broke the handle a person would normally use to push a stroller with.
So with said giant toddler in hands, baggage on back and stroller dragging behind, we headed for the customer service desk for Frontier airlines. Turns out that the same four people who work that desk also work the baggage handling, and ticket taking booth all the way at the other end of the airport. We waited thirty minutes before anyone even arrived to help us and a total time of an hour and six minutes until I was finally so mad I just left. The whole story here is just too ridiculous and a side to the whole point so I'll spare you the details. Still no resolve and nobody has even addressed the claim as of one month later. While I was home visiting family, my father and I measured a dowel rod and cut them to a size that we were able to barely squeeze into the slots where the springs once were. Yay! Now the stroller rolls again.
Now for the good part. We arrive at the airport on the 19th of Sept ready to check in for our 6pm flight and guess what? They don't have us on that flight. Frontier airlines has messed up the date and doesn't have us flying back to Portland until the 21st of Sept. That's an entire day after the wedding I'm supposed to be photographing. We have a little over an hour to get this resolved and the ticket counter person says they can do nothing. I then call in to their customer service, frantic that we might not be back in time for me to shoot the wedding the next day. I tell them what happened and they tell me I need to pay $236 dollars for all these fees to switch my flight. At this point I'm like whatever, I have to be on this flight, I will sort it out later.
They change the flight, charge me $236 dollars and off we go. Once we arrive in Denver, where I have a three and a half hour layover. I am greeted with our stroller, which they somehow, once again, busted the dowel rods out of. We still have no idea how they managed to get them out because they were wedged in tighter than Chewbacca's feet in size six high heel. Let it be known this same stroller has been on three other seperate plane trips, all with other companies and been totally fine every time. Somehow Frontier managed to bust it up two seperate times. Indeed it was a very long lay over with a broken stroller holding up one side as we meandered for three hours back and forth through the Denver airport, but we eventually made it home. On Monday the 21st I started my attempts at handling this ordeal with Frontier airlines.
I spent several hours on the phone and they just kept telling me that it wasn't their fault. Over and over again they blamed Kayak.com. The magical thing is, I have all the receipts and print out paper trail from Kayak.com over to Priceline.com. Strangely, both of those receipt print outs say that my flight is on the 19th. Such a weird thing, exactly what I paid for in writing. As it turns out the only thing that says my flight is on the 21st is frontier airlines. To this day Frontier Airlines won't take responsibility and I've spent three different phone calls worth of being passed around to different people; who apparently, have no authority to rectify this situation. Every time I call, they tell me that they are submitting a claim and then I never hear from them again. While I realize $236 isn't the end of the world, it doesn't feel right to not get the read more
