Korean Air Boeing Plane at Sea-Tac Airport
    Jon L.

Good airline. Almost as good as Singapore Airlines. On my second international trip ever, I flew on Korean Air from Seattle to Shanghai with a stopover at Incheon Airport. On the return, I flew Korean from Hong Kong to Seattle with a stop again at Incheon. Korean Air provides service from Seattle to Incheon Airport where you connect to other Asian cities from there. Like most international flights out of Sea-Tac, Korean flies out of the South Satellite terminal in which you need to take the people mover system to get to. There are not very many appealing dining options at South Satellite, so it would be best to get a bite in the Central Terminal before heading over. I love flying international because of the extras (previously standard offerings) that flying domestic in the US no longer provides like meal service (even on a 2 hour flight!) and free check-in baggage. Check-in at Seattle was fine, though Korean is located at the far end of the airport. I did have to provide my airline miles number since my travel agent didn't enter it initially, which the ticketing agent successfully completed. Though it seemed like English was their secondary language. I did have to provide my mileage info again at HK since the Seattle agent didn't enter it in. At Hong Kong Airport, the Korean location is Terminal 1. I found it easier to speak Cantonese (though I am not great at speaking it). Though I think English would have been fine too. Major props to the ticketing agents for being able to converse in numerous languages. Flight time to Asia is longer than the return. The planes used to cross from Seattle to Incheon were bigger than the ones used for my East Asian flights naturally. Seating was pretty comfortable for economy class. I had aisle seats on all of my flights. I actually found the seats all the way at the back to be the most comfortable as it seemed to have a little more space. Two meals were served on the long flight over the Pacific and I got a meal on the flight to Shanghai and travelling from HK. If you are taking Korean, you definitely need to try the beef bibimbap bowl. It comes with gochujang (hot pepper) sauce that does wonders for this dish. The only thing is the portion is kind of small and I felt hungry afterwards soon after. But I like this over the Western options. Though the omelette I had for breakfast back to Seattle was not too bad. As far as drinks, they serve beer, wine and spirits along with the usual drinks. Give the Korean beer a try if you haven't. Also, I was surprised to see that they serve Hawaiian Sun guava nectar and pineapple juice. Random, but awesome. The entertainment system on Korean is great. They have a library of 60 or so movies available. The majority of flicks are very recent. There is Hollywood fare as well as Chinese, European, Japanese and Korean films. You can also watch TV comedies and dramas, though I noticed there was not much of a selection of Korean dramas. Rounding out the entertainment are a selection of games and a library of music (radio stations and albums) including a whole section devoted to Korean music. Though I didn't see "Gangnam Style" as a selection. I am sure that will become an option on the system soon. I did lastly want to make note of what happens after landing at Incheon and Sea-Tac. At Incheon, the floor that arriving passengers enter the airport is not the same as the one that departing passengers leave from. Arriving passengers enter one floor down. If South Korea is your destination, you go to immigration. If you are transferring, you need to go through a security area and get re-screened. Once clear, you take the escalator upstairs to get to your gate. It would have been great to take advantage of the shopping at Incheon since it is very mall-like, but I didn't have much connection time left before boarding the second flight after going through security. As for at Sea-Tac, they also separate arriving passengers from those departing. You go through immigration and then pick up your baggage at South Satellite instead of at the main baggage area. After doing so, you go through customs before exiting. Overall, the experience flying at Korean was pretty good. I liked it almost as much as my flights on Singapore Airlines last year. In-flight service and the flying experience was smooth. I would gladly fly Korean again.

We flew on miles and upgraded our seats to first class with cash. As a whole the flight was good and because we didn't have checked luggage, it was a breeze for us. Below is where the star rating was up and down. Customer Service via Phone or Chat: 2.5 Stars - needs major improvement. However, contacting customer service via phone can be frustrating due to long wait times or returning a call back. Also, I tried to communicate via their chat portal and if you don't answer within a timely manner (2 minutes), the AI Or person will disconnect with you. This happened on two occasions when I was trying to change flight date. I finally gave up. Flight - ATL -SEA 3.25 Stars The flight crew were pleasant and professional. However, AK has forgo the water at the seat in First class. We had to wait until most of the passengers were seated before we receive a cup of water. Our flight attendant was friendly, had a wonderful smile and professional but there were times, she waited a lot longer to pickup the finished drinks or meals. She seemed preoccupied with other duties. We weren't the only one that she forgot to bring drinks or pickup the dishes. Food: 3 Stars Breakfast was presented nicely and looked good. But the breakfast meal I had was ok. Though the meal was hot and it looked good, the ham was too salty and the potatoes had a little bit more Rosemary that I am use too. Coffee was so-so, so I requested my go-to drink of Cranberry juice. The other breakfast dish we had was the fruit and cheese tray. It tasted better than my egg, ham, potatoes dish. Both dishes were accompanied by fresh fruit and yogurt. SEA - ANC Food - 3.25 stars AK airlines famous cheese burger. The burger was good but nothing to write home about. Or am I? Served w chips, humid and veggies and chocolate cake. The humus was flavorful and hint of spicy to it. Cake was moist and had a deep chocolate flavor. To kick it up a notch, spread the humus to the burger instead of mayo or mustard. It made the burger more delicious! AK Airlines doesn't have IFE, but you could watch or text with their free WiFi. Also, there is $8 option. If you have a T-Mobile account then it is free. We flew on a 737-900 series. The first class seats were large and comfortable. After arrival to Seattle airport, we stopped by to talk w customer service agent. Cynthia (4 Stars) assisted us to see if we could change an our flight to ANC for an earlier flight. We had a 8 1/2 hour layover and we noticed there was an earlier flight. We were willing to seat in Premier or Coach instead of First Class. She contacted customer service phone line to get assistance. She thought because of our First Class seats, we would be able to chance the class seat but the person told her due we would have to exchange our first class for another set of first class seats on a different flight. The person couldn't downgrade us to a different class seat selection. Weird! She was surprised herself. We thanked for her assistance. So, I struck out on changing my flights (phone, chat, and physical person). So this where the overall rating is lower than expected. Addendum from SEA - ANC Our first class flight attendant was wonderful. Positive, lots of energy, professional and was very pleasant to talk to. Greeted us when we walked in, had our pre-departure drink within 10 minutes of be seated and had our preorder meals within the hour of the flight. She was delightful. Though the 737-9Max wasn't as clean as it should be. I brush off some crumbs from my seat and there were a couple of coffee stirrers on the floor near our seats. The first class seats are modern but not as cushy as the older seats in the 737-900 series plane. So, would I use them again? Probably, but strictly use mile or pay cash. I think using miles and cash made our flights more difficult to change.

They put me on an itinerary that had zero chance of working. I landed in Seattle at 1:40 p.m. with a connecting flight that boarded at 2:20 -- only 40 minutes to clear customs, get through passport control, reclaim my bag, recheck it, and switch terminals at an already chaotic airport. Predictably, it was impossible. Customs and baggage alone took two and a half hours. I missed the first connection, got rebooked on a 4 p.m. flight, and still hadn't cleared customs by then so I missed that one too. When I finally got through and called customer service, the agent sounded completely checked out -- bored, uninterested, and like she couldn't care less about helping me. She rebooked me again. I specifically asked for any seat that wasn't a middle. When I boarded, the plane had plenty of open seats... and of course I was stuck in row 30, seat E -- middle seat. On top of everything, their first class is a rip-off. It's expensive, the seats barely recline, and it's hardly better than coach. I used to fly Alaska regularly on trips to Oregon. After this mess I would rather drive from LA than ever book them again. Customer service is abysmal, their scheduling is reckless, and the whole experience felt like they just don't care. Do yourself a favor and fly someone else.

To then be given Christine the hostile employee really ruined the end of our vacation. I hope this isn't in the training that Delta provides for employees on how to handle customers looking for other ways to get home. You will be pestered with emails suggesting to pay for this and that in advance to make your trip more pleasant or predictable. You MAY be asked to prove that your hand luggage fits in their size bins (there were two next to my gate with stern warnings, so you can try in advance). You CAN pay through the app in the airport if you need to convert your personal item into a carry-on but that will eat some of the savings. The seats do not tilt; because of that the seating area is actually wider and pant size 42 man comfortably fits with no intrusion to the neighboring space. IMHO 44 should fit too. Your flight crew WILL be nice and bottomless tea or coffee will be 4 bucks. The lavatory is, probably, not cleaned between the flights. I was first and the seat was already "sprinkled" and one of two rolls of toilet paper was already down to the bare core. Short delays are very common with Frontier (at least on LAX-SEA they are) but usually they recover most of it through the flight. My flight left 20 minutes late but arrived on-time. If you fly with just the "personal item" AKA small backpack 18x14x8", accept the toilet situation (I am not saying that they never clean, only that on my flight it was not - for sure), and OK with the need to walk / take a free shuttle from the gate to the airplane, you will save 35%. If you have carry on, you will save ~15%, and if you are flexible with your travel dates, you will fly half-price comparing to the major airlines. The caveat is the usual - no changes and no upgrades of anything.

There was a woman and a man who were in the back of the plane where the restrooms are. Before the flight even took off, the woman said to her male coworker that "the higher ups" don't like her and that's why she's in the back. They then continued talking extremely loudly to the extent that I and several people seated near me thought the conversation was coming out of the overhead speakers. Their conversations consisted of a kind of flirty exchange where the woman was sharing her entire dating life, stories about being drunk and even saying that she has 6 months clean. They continued talking extremely loudly despite multiple passengers looking back and questioning how they could be so unaware. The plane was extremely quiet as many people were returning from Las Vegas so extremely tired and trying to nap. After about 45 minutes, I went to the bathroom near them and politely asked if they realized that the whole back half of the plane e could hear their entire conversation. The response was that this is how they keep themselves awake on the job and began laughing and exchanging undermining and outwardly rude glances. I went back to my seat and about 10 minutes later, a man who was two rows from the back of the plane stood up and asked something similar to the following...would you guys mind keeping it down? We have spent the entire time on this flight listening to your discussions about inappropriate subjects and we would appreciate it if you would remain professional and spare us the details of your personal lives. They laughed and did not respond at which point t he said, "no wonder the higher up's don't like you." They continued to converse loudly and snicker about the passengers requests. At one point a different flight attendant approached them and we thought she would be asking them to quiet down but within moments she was laughing and clearly not informing them that they were out of line. At this time, I was filming and attempting to Document the situation. The woman then approached my seat and demanded that I stop recording. She had a red card and said if I did not stop recording she would hand the red card and I would be met by the police upon landing. When I tried to explain the situation, she said that she was unaware of that and when I asked for a supervisor, she stated the there was no supervisor on board and reminded me that it is against privacy rules to Record anyone without their permission. Overall, this was the worst flight I have ever experienced. The lack of professionalism and common courtesy was astounding. I will never fly with Frontier again.

Due to heavy traffic on the way to the airport, I missed my original flight by just a few minutes. I was honestly expecting the situation to become much more stressful, but the airline staff at the service desk remained calm and guided me through the available options. After checking the next available flight, they helped me with the rebooking process much faster than I expected. Although waiting for another departure wasn't ideal, I appreciated how clearly everything was explained. I was kept informed about the new boarding time, and the entire process felt organized rather than chaotic. By the time I reached the gate for my new flight, I was much more relaxed. ## *A Pleasant Airport Experience Despite the Delay* Since I suddenly had extra time before departure, I walked around the terminal, grabbed lunch, and caught up on a few work emails. The boarding announcements were clear, and the gate staff handled the process efficiently once it was time to board. Passengers entered the aircraft in an orderly manner, and everything started on schedule. Even after the stressful beginning to the day, boarding felt calm and well managed, which immediately improved my mood. ## *Comfortable Flight with Helpful Crew* The aircraft was clean, and my aisle seat was comfortable enough for the journey. Shortly after takeoff, the cabin crew welcomed everyone and began serving refreshments. Throughout the flight they remained approachable and friendly, checking regularly to see if anyone needed assistance. The captain kept passengers informed about the route and expected arrival time, and the flight itself remained smooth from start to finish. By the end of the journey, I had almost forgotten how stressful the morning had been. ## *Excellent Service Left a Positive Impression* After landing, baggage delivery was quicker than expected, and I was able to leave the airport without any additional delays. While missing my original flight was completely my own fault, the airline handled the situation professionally and made the rest of the journey surprisingly easy. That experience showed me that good customer service isn't only about when everything goes perfectly--it's also about how problems are handled. Because of that, I'd happily choose this airline again.

Take our recent quick 2-day trip from LAS to SEA. Roundtrip tickets were barely over $100 per person round trip. Holy crap! Say what you want, but that is a real good price! Bag fees are tricky for me. If I have a short trip I don't need to pack a lot. No matter what you do, you do get a free personal item. That is really calling it too tight for comfort, IMO. So, for this last trip I did an upgrade on their website for $35 per way, per person ($140.00 total). My extra $140 got us assigned seating to sit next to my partner for both flights near the front of the plane for both legs. It also got both of us a free carry-on item each, both ways in addition to our personal item. More than enough for a 2-day trip! Considering the fact that, if you checked in a bag at the airport day of, it could cost you $65 per bag, per leg that feels like a great deal! I mean, even with the extra money my total ticket price is still under $200 each round trip. I can totally live with that! As for the flights themselves, it is still Spirit so keep your expectations reasonable (read:low). Both flights were delayed, but nothing too bad. Usual mix of some very nice employees and some mildly passive ones as well. Nothing too bad. The airline is known for offering flights to the most destinations around the world. I flew on Turkish a few years ago from Seattle to Thessaloniki via Istanbul during spring break. For the most part, it was a good experience. The pluses are mostly with the in-flight experience. They use Dreamliner planes and serve tasty meals on all flights, including my short haul flights to and from Greece. The IFE system has extensive entertainment and they give all passengers an amenity bag on long haul flights. Lastly, the baggage allowance is generous as you can check in 2 bags. I do also want to bring up some items to consider booking on Turkish. My flight to Istanbul was nearly a hour late, but I still made my connection. Try not to book flights with short layovers. Also some of the connections have long layovers to destinations in the Middle East and Central Asia with flights arriving at odd hours. You may want to consider doing a stopover in Istanbul instead, which Turkish has a good program for. Lastly, gate security in Istanbul is extensive. So expect a thorough check of your carryon items before your flight. Overall, I enjoyed flying on Turkish. It is a well run airline with good fares to Europe and a great in-flight experience. However, you should consider travel time, especially layovers and the amount of backtracking needed to get to your destination when deciding whether to book.

Our layover was long enough to be able to get to our next gate, and yet short enough to feel like we weren't wasting time. The flight was frankly luxurious compared to other long international flights. We flew to South America yearly for a while, and the economy experience on Turkish Airlines was like the Business Class experience on the unnamed airline to Montevideo. There were always two options for the meals. My wife was able to get gluten-free meals. The help staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It may well have been the best long flight experience in my life.
