Wow! This was quite an experience. I came here with a friend after watching a Gwinnett Gladiators game at the arena (my first hockey game). It was a rainy night and we went in about 20 minutes before they closed. I usually get a little nervous about the type of service i'm going to get when going to a place shortly before they close. In this case, there was no need to worry. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated by a very friendly staff member. Shortly after we sat down, Stefano (our server) came and greeted us. He told about the drink specials. Everything was very reasonably priced. We had a patron sunshine drink and it was pretty good, especially for the price. It had lots of ice though so you may want to ask for light ice. It came time to decide which food to eat we decided on the 2 for $20 deal. It comes with 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and a dessert to share. We had the xochitl soup. PLEASE try it. IT was delicious! When I had a spoonful and saw how delicious it was, I was excited to see what the rest of my dinner had to offer. I had the chicken quesadilla. It was a great portion, the chicken was moist and filling and the onions and veggies were flavorful. It's not like the typical skinny, quesadilla appetizer you get at some places. My friend had the steak fajitas. They came out steamy and hot with a bunch of warm tortillas. He tore it up so I assume it was good. The dinner was very filling. I had to take half home. I used a Yelp Check in deal to get a free dessert so we didn't have to share. I had the fried cheesecake. It was really good. My friend had the ice cream sundae and he enjoyed it. Stefano was a great server. He was friendly, had great suggestions and was very personable. Even though it was close to closing time, at no time did we feel rushed or dismissed. There were still several people in there when we left. They had a gentleman singing while we were there. I think his name was Tommy. He had a great voice and I enjoyed it when he played the saxophone. The food is a great value; there's the option of getting a three course meal for $10. You also get complimentary chips and salsa, which were pretty good. I thought the al pastor tacos were delicious although I did not like their starchy tortillas. The tacos were served with rice, which was surprisingly under-seasoned so I decided to mix in the filling of the al pastor tacos to make a burrito bol. The tres leches cake was huge, sweet, and cold with some parts emulating ice cream; I think I've been spoiled by Rosa Mexicano's tres leches. Went there for the first time with my family last night. It was decorated for Valentine's Day with a lot of tacky decorations (probably from the dollar store) which I found pretty funny! They have an awesome 2 for $20 deal - choose one appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert for $20. My sister and I chose the queso, chicken fajita quesadillas (2), and the volcan. It was way too much food for us and we both went home with leftovers! The queso was pretty good, but not spicy like I expected it to be (we ordered it with jalepenos). The quesadillas were really yummy! There was plenty of grilled chicken inside of them (which made them impossible to finish!). I would definitely get them again! My whole family was satisfied with their entrees. The service was slightly slow but they were really busy since it was a Saturday night. The salsa was lacking flavor and a "kick" of flavor you'd expect to punch your taste buds. The white queso cheese dip was just "okay" as well. Ordered the Diablo salsa as well which is said to be quite spicy. It was spicy, but it was also lacking flavor. I ordered steak fajita, and for the price you pay, I would expect to receive more than just a few pieces of steak.. The food was okay, but not worth the price in my honest opinion. Other members in our party ordered an enchilada which they barely ate, as well as their Mexi-burger which a party member said was overcooked and dry. My first review on Yelp! I went on Cinco de Mayo with my boyfriend in the late afternoon and it wasn't busy surprisingly. There was a band outside setting up for tonight's festivities. Very live Hispanic music playing! Great atmosphere! It took awhile for us to order our food even though their were five waiters standing around, carrying conversations amongst themselves. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our water. I ordered a Coronarita and they ran out of the huge glass they usually put the drink in, so I was handed a red cup with liquor and beer over spilling. My boyfriend didn't like the replacement cup, but I was fine with it. About 40 minutes later, we got our food. I was okay with the wait because I understood other orders were being put in at the same time. I ordered the flautas (4) and it came with refried beans, Mexican rice, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. Out of the entire meal, the beans were to my liking. The flautas were too crispy. I didn't really like them much. My boyfriend ordered the enchilada stack which I liked! He didn't like it so much, but I did! I had a taste off his plate. When we asked for the check, it came out quick which is great! I like the atmosphere and music. I would definitely go again and try something else on the menu! read more

My food was undercook, I'm not bashing the cook because maybe the server forgot to mention i needed it well done, but what got to me was the stuck my food back into the microwave with my fork and spoon still on the place and reheated it. How gross is that. Our server didn't even give us napkins, had to ask for a straw, she was so focused on the big table she was serving I'm assuming because she was gonna get a huge tip she just brushed us off. WOW wow wow I am so disappointed! We have gone here for years. I haven't been here since the pandemic. Let's see where to start! The food was awful. The charro beans "which I loved in the past" tasted like canned. The brisket was really fatty and bland. The prices for NOT GOOD food quality has greatly increased! What was really surprising was the beer. We expected to pay more than the 5.99 for regular beer. My husband ordered the not cold Sweetwater 420 and they charged a whopping 11.99! Never payed that anywhere in the area! Wish I had read previous reviews! Hate to say will never go back!! read more

My 5 stars is for Roberto and Roberto alone! He was such a warm person who you could tell really cared about what you needed. We came in at 9:03pm and had plans to order to go, however no one greeted us. They passed us and said nothing. Until...Roberto came up! He asked us were we helped. We weren't. He made us feel welcome and not only seated us, but served us as well. He double checked our orders and made sure we were satisfied. I probably wouldn't come back in here unless I see Roberto. I'm not sure of the day shift because I've had good experiences then, but night time...Roberto! He made our bad day...wayyyyyyy better! read more

We came to this place with friends because the app Indicated that first time customers get a free cheese dip. The service was great she always made sure we had everything we needed. She brought the cheese dip because i showed her what the app said. Towards the end of our meal she brought another more experienced waitress. In a condescending way she asked to see the app where it Indicates free cheese dip. She saw it and said that's a promotion they don't have another more. She did not apologized nor did she offer it for free. I was charged for the dip and the waitress just walked away. Do too the false advertisement we will not be coming back to this place. read more

Oh my! We are in town for a big tournament and this was close to the hotel. The decor was actually really cute and colorful and they had a live guitar player. That was a plus. The food was terrible and I do mean terrible. We had a party of 5 and no one's food was good. We had your typical tacos, enchiladas, quesadilla, and tamales. I hate enchiladas made with low quality cheese and bad flour tortilla. The worst part was for refills...the waiter took our glasses to the back and came back with what appeared to be our previously used cups. The concern was...who's glass was who's??? Our service was horrible and slow. A group of 8 of us went to dinner last night. We had to ask twice for a refill of chips and still someone from our party had to get up to eventually go get the chips. Drink refills were also terribly slow and it took a long time for our food to come out. But the biggest disappointment was feeling like our waiter pulled a fast one over on us. When we arrived, he asked if we wanted cheese dip or guacamole. Since someone else in our party already had cheese dip we went with the guacamole. It wasn't like your "normal" guacamole- it was more like a salad with avocado chucks. It was okay but not good. When it came time to order, my husband and I decided to do the 2 for $20 offer. It consisted of an appetizer or dessert and 2 entrees off of a list. My taco was pretty good but my husband was very disappointed in his pork tacos and didn't even finish eating them. When our waiter finally brought the bill, he said that our guacamole wasn't eligible for the special. He apparently didn't bring us the normal guacamole but rather the "homestyle" guacamole. And it turns our that the homestyle was $9!! Ridiculous for the amount and taste. We spoke to the manager about the situation but no offers were made to remedy our waiters fast one. This was my go-to place earlier on in life, when I didn't know any better. That is not to say that Fronter is bad, but it doesn't accurately depict what Mexican food (of any region in Mexico) is meant to taste like. It's billed as "Mex-Mex", but it really is just Iowa-Mex, or Atlanta-Mex. Name your geographic area, and apply the word "Mex" just after it, and you've got Frontera. Now, that diatribe out of the way, there is what IS good about Frontera... The portions are large, and the pricing in on-par with suburban Atlanta fare of this type. Some of the sauces are bland, but the salsa is tasty with a nice spice that isn't altogether original, but good. Frontera has positioned themselves well with what works for their given areas, so I applaud them for this, and adjusting as necessary, BUT that doesn't represent the Mexican food usually found in, well... Mexico. I get that most people use Mexican food as a catch-all for spice with chips and salsa, but if you explore your areas a little bit more, you will find actual Mexican food, for a lot less money. I won't recommend any places locally as my palate may not suit your's, but stop going with easy for a change and branch out from nachos, or Speedy w/ rice. You are doing yourself an injustice by saying " I want Mexican, let's do Frontera" read more

Perhaps because I'm visiting from Los Angeles I was not impressed. There are hundreds of Mexican restaurants in SoCal, from cheap and dirty, to expensive and exclusive. This is an average Mexican restaurant, with a limited but decent menu. At least they speak Spanish :-) read more

Typical Mexican cuisine, but it's good. You'll find nothing out of the ordinary at Frontera, but by the same token, you'll get a solid meal that consistently is flavorful and yummy. As I work right across the street, this specific location gets my business for both lunch and dinner. Packed from 12:00 until at least 1:00, if you're planning on lunching with a larger group it would behoove you do so early or late. By the same token, if you're in a hurry, don't do Frontera. (Not that they're slow, they're just THAT busy.) Dinner is great...a nice relaxing atmosphere (unless the mariachi band is there) and an awesome little patio are perfect for a Mexican meal. One warning, however...if there is an event going on The Arena at Gwinnett Center...it WILL be packed. Much like lunch, get there early or late or you won't get a table without standing in line for 30 minutes. One last bit - try the churros!! Out of this world! read more

Is it just me, or does the name make this place sound like crap? I actually never wanted to go because I thought that it was some crummy wannabe Mexican restaurant (Cut me some slack-moved here not too long ago from Jersey). I stand corrected. Frontera's a pretty neat place. The staff really is nice and the free tortilla chips/salsa doesn't hurt either. Our waitress was Romanian, very sweet and understood Spanish, a plus since my boyfriend speaks very little English. Everything tasted like it had just been prepared (I know that it was, but it's the principal!). And the servings are BIG. I didn't have the room or desire for dessert afterwards, but I imagine that that's just as good. If you're ever looking for a place to go with a bunch of friends/family members for great food at a great price, try Frontera. There's something for everyone and you won't be disappointed. read more

Coming from California, my husband and I have been quite spoiled with having some of the best Mexican food on the planet, so any restaurant has quite the impression to make on us. Sadly, Frontera left the wrong impression. When we first arrived we were pleasantly greeted and promptly seated in the noisiest section imaginable. There was a large party of drunk people that took up the majority of the room so why anyone would seat customers in that section, I'll never know. The table we sat at was by the window, the seats were torn, there was food, paper and a knife on the floor... so someone had just left and they only cleared the dishes but failed to clean the booth. A larger man that worked for the restaurant slammed the salsa and chips down on the table then quickly walked away #rude. When we asked another server about the chips and salsa deliverer to see if the guy was ok... he brushed off our concerns. That should have been our cue to leave but we decided to stay and try the food. So the night progressed in the noisemaker section and the servers (a young man and woman) were quite nice so that made the experience not too bad. We ordered the plain queso dip to go with the chips and it was just "ok". It could have had more flavor (beside the spicy option) but it wasn't the worst thing we had. I ordered the Carne Asada plate and the meat was great ; it needed salt, could have used some seasoning but it was good. The rice and beans however, we're extremely flavorless, very one note. So I basically only ate the meat . My husband ordered a brisket burrito and it was also completely flavorless and one note; but the worst part was that a large 2 inch ball of fat was hiding in the middle of the burrito . Now we completely expect some fat to be left in the brisket, but the cook could have done a much better job of trimming the meat prior to serving. My husband was completely grossed out by it so of course he didn't finish the meal. The manager graciously comped that portion of the meal but we probably won't be back. read more

I ordered online delivery (Lilburn, GA) and was charged $5.75 extra for 2 tiny (1/2 oz) containers of sour cream and a small (1/2 cup) container of shredded lettuce for 2 taco orders...you would think tacos came with lettuce and sour cream to begin with!??! Frontera website on Facebook gave me an email address for guest services to resolve the issue (I had the order and receipt on screenshots) BUT THE ADDRESS WILL NOT ACCEPT MY EMAILS! It says 'not a working address'. I let Frontera on Facebook know AND THEY NEVER RESPONDED. Might seem like $5.75 isn't alot, but it's the principal of the ridiculously high extra cost for this. I will NEVER order from here again after this experience! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! ONLY reason I gave them 2 stars is because the food was hot when delivered. read more

My immediate family and full band of in-laws (15 people) visited on 8/26 for a combo birthday celebration. Our female server (I wish I could give her a proper shout out) did a fabulous job of pleasing our large party, some of whom are hard-to-please. I always get Carnitas which were delightful. The beer was cold and conversation lively. They brought out the hats and sang for us which is always fun. A wonderful time was had by all. Thank you and keep up the good work. read more

What could have been decent Mexican food turned out to be an exercise on how to train employees. Several servers had a last minute party call ahead. Three servers decided to yell across six tables, loudly drag over 50 chairs and the Manager (Juan) joined in. So we had four employees yelling from the stairs over our table and directly next to our booth. I spoke with Juan about it. His answer was that he was sorry but this party booked with short notice. I'll be back but after trying out other restaurants that care about the customers that re already seated and eating. read more
