Best pasta in town! Everything is homemade and delicious made by Claudia! Perfect if you're looking for real authentic Italian food

Had dinner the other night with a friend and our meal was fabulous! We started off by sharing a smoked mozzarella cheese with prosciutto on crostini, it was served slightly warm, delicious!! For my entree I had a special, home made tortellini stuffed with radicchio & scamorza cheese, it was amazing, the radicchio almost tasted like tender shredded pieces of meat! Amazing!! I'm still thinking about it a week later. My friend had the Linguini al Pesto, it was light and fresh. To finish the meal we shared a piece of the flourless chocolate cake with nuts and cappuccinos. Excellent service! Amazing food! Actually having Claudia take our order and speak with us about each item we were inquiring about was fantastic. And also discussing Italy and Rome made it extra special. Every recommendation she had was right on point. We each had our own appetizer, very generous portions. Beautiful presentation and excellent taste. Pasta to die for cooked to perfection. Amazing sauce, oxtail. Never thought I'd eat that but was very good meat sauce. As she said in Italy we do not waste any part of the animal. I wish I had taken a picture of the menu of each item we had. And we finished up with a marvelous ricotta, and chocolate pieces cake which was amazing. I highly recommend. Make reservations way in advance. Small place but well worth it. Family feel as her son and husband work along side of her. Claudia we will definitely be back though it's not around our corner. On Fri we went to a new restaurant that opened up in Ridgewood one month ago Italia Di Gusto. The owners came from Rome two years ago & this was her dream. We really felt like we were in Italy from the cheeseboard & meats to the macaroni, salads & chicken Milanese. Claudia is the head chef along with her husband who run's the front greeting the people. I love this place. The food is really to die for. I'd tell you what I've ordered if only I couple spell (let alone pronounce) any of it. The food is as authentically Italian as you can get, and everything is completely delicious. The staff is so kind and being in the restaurant feels like you've become part of their little family. The place is really tiny and gets busy, though, so don't be sad if you have to wait a little bit for a table. It will be 100% worth it. read more

I traveled to Italy many times and this restaurant brings me back to the many outstanding restaurants I've experienced when I travel there. Italy holds a special place in our hearts. My fiancé and I got engaged in Italy and when we came back we were searching for a true authentic Italian restaurant that reminded us of our memorable experience. We were in for a real treat when we walked into Italia di Gusto and had the opportunity to experience hands down the BEST Italian cuisine in New Jersey. Chef Claudia's passion resonates with her food. This is our favorite restaurant and we only hope that everyone takes the time to experience the wonderful food that Chef Claudia shares. She uses only the freshest ingredients and most are even imported from Italy. Also, the portions are absolutely perfect. Our absolute favorites are the Caprese with imported bufalo mozzarella, spaghetti cacio e pepe, apple cake and pear Belgium chocolate cake. Food is fantastic as is the service. Everyone is so hospitable, and the food was delicious. I like the modern decor but would love more comfortable seats. And the signage, including a taped up flyer in the window, do not do this place justice. Hope they get their marketing up to snuff because I want to have many more meals here! read more

This place never disappoints. Seating is cramped, but the food is delicious. The owners and chefs are a couple from Italy who are very attentive to diners. I highly recommend the homemade desserts, such as the apple cake and pear/chocolate cake. Unlike a lot of Italian American places, the dishes here are tasty without being overly rich/oily. read more

Had a VERY disappointing experience here and would not return. First, we made a reservation for our group only to find our upon arrival that there are 2 seatings so we were on the clock. We were looking for a leisurely evening and wouldn't have made the reservation if we knew that. Secondly, one of our party had called previously to see if her diet requirements could be accommodated which they assured her could. Upon arrival, the one dish she could eat wasn't available and then refused to slightly modify a fish dish by leaving off the breading. The request could have been easily managed by the staff- it wasn't recreating a dish- it was simply leaving off an ingredient. So she sat and ate nothing. What was most offensive was that the management spent the rest of the time there defending their position when we politely registered our complaint. Very defensive, not at all apologetic or gracious. Their effort was in trying to fault the customer. Have never experienced such a lack of accommodation for a customer. The food was adequate but would never go back or recommend. read more

Had a delicious meal at this adorable authentic Italian restaurant. We had the chicken scallopini and the fettuccini. Both delicious and sooooo fresh!!! The chicken was melt in your mouth. The portions aren't huge but they are just the right size. I left feeling very satisfied and knowing I had a fresh and good-for-you meal. The apple cake was outrageous. I will start with the positive...the food is delicious although a bit pricey. Now, the not-so-positive... The staff, including Claudia were very rude and practically pushed us out the door. They kept telling us we had to leave because the next group was waiting. We had only been there for 1hr and 35 minutes. They acted as if we had been there for 4 hours!!! Our table was by the front door and Claudia stood there and glared at us while we were just trying to finish the last of our wine. So, if you like to eat and run, then this is the place for you. If you would like to enjoy your meal and the company you are with, then I recommend a place that makes you feel welcome and not like "ok, we have your money, now leave!" We were four friends coming together after a long while and were very disappointed in their very unprofessional behavior. We will never be back. FYI...parking is a nightmare and the place, although it has a nice decor, is extremely small. read more

Went to From Scratch with my girl friend and it was pure delight. I have traveled extensivle in Italy and this is TRUE Italian cuisine. The sauce was perfection, not heavy with paste and I felt I was back in Italy again. I had the eggplant parmigiana and my friend had the bronzino with an eggplant fritter. I then had the cornflake cookie with espresso and she had their apple cinnamon cake , baked fresh every morning and it was fabulous. Cannot wait to return. read more

If you want to eat at this restaurant, call to make a reservation. If you can't get a reservation, try again another time (they won't give away their reserved seats because it's not fair to make people who planned ahead wait). Why? Because the food in this restaurant is cooked in the way that a nona with complete dedication to her family would cook a meal. From Scratch keeps this tradition alive. And the food is delicious. I grew up in an Italian kitchen so I understand how long it takes to make an authentic Bolognese or to make a hand-made tart or cake (if it's not too crowded, get up and actually look at her selection of desserts--marvelous). They don't cut corners and they are using organic butter and good olive oil, not cheaper alternatives. Their prices are fair considering the the labor and the quality of their ingredients. The flavors and textures are spot on. If you are the impatient type who wants everything yesterday, don't come here. If you are the type of person who is happy to relax and eat mindfully, savoring each bite, this is your place. I recommend the board with cured meats and a selection of cheeses while you wait for your entree. Their salads are generous and extremely fresh. If you enjoy a glass of wine, From Scratch is B.Y.O.B. and there is a terrific wine shop right around the corner on Broad. The family who owns this restaurant is from Italy. They love what they do and that comes through in the quality of their food. If you want to eat the way the real "paisans" do, go there. Last night I tasted a pie with a light, Nutella pudding with a crumble topping. I don't know how she got ricotta to taste like that, but it was so delicious. I ordered a tart with orange and fig jam that had chunks of chocolate here and there throughout. The butter crust was exquisite. I took home the little bit that was left because I knew I would be sorry today. Go there and savor each bite. read more

My husband and I recently had a delightful lunch at Italia di Gusto and it was nothing less then excellent. From the crispy authentic Italian bread to the delicious home made pesto, we devoured our carefully prepared, beautifully presented and tasty sandwiches that were as appetizing to the eye as they were to the palette. The pasta salad was perfectly seasoned and the Bruschette is authentic and vibrant with flavor. It is a staple in our choice of restaurants now and look forward to the new and exciting additions to the menu as well as the fun and ever-changing presentation of their dishes. read more

First experience at this small, new Italian restaurant in downtown Ridgewood. Service was excellent, as was the food and value. We had the antipasto platter, calamari, eggplant parmigiana, salmon, meatloaf and ravioli with walnut sauce. All of the food was excellent quality and perfectly prepared. Wonderful addition to the Ridgewood restaurant scene!! The chef - Claudia Rovegno -- is amazing! My husband and I were there 9/2 for a spur of the moment dinner and were lucky to find the place. Turns out it is a superlative place to go for the freshest salads and absolutely amazing cheese / salumeria plates. The interior is bright and fresh - with shelves of innovative and tempting italian products (like strawberries in balsamic vinegar). The service was excellent. And the produce (the salad leaves, the tomatoes, the avocadoes in the salmon salad) had so much flavor that we were dying to ask how they procured them! if you go, be sure to bring a bottle of wine with you - and order the 3 cheese / 3 salumeria (meats) platter - very generous portions - enough for 4 people! And also try the organic lemon soda - another product we wanted to buy in large quantities and bring home. All in all, a great experience! read more
