Super Cellars is completely fitting name, considering the store is quite super. Located off of the busiest street in Ridgewood, the large store has a great layout. There's a vast collection of items, and of course, I went hunting for the cider when my partner and I arrived. There was a somewhat small collection in their back refrigerator area, but we spotted some brands we hadn't tried yet. As we made our way back to the front of the store, we simply needed to check out all of the cheese offerings they have available. The worker behind the counter was simply awesome, she was really knowledgeable about all of the cheese products and let us sample whatever we wanted to try. It was a great shopping experience and we definitely plan to return while we're in the area. read more

Great Wine Selection One Helpful Staff Member Stopped in for a bottle of wine to have with lunch at Malee, very good selection that is laid out in a logical manner. One guy behind the counter was eating something not looking particularly busy so I asked him about a good pairing for spicy Thai he kept saying huh, what and huh so the other person interjected and asked if he could help, sure cause this guy I'm trying to speak with is unresponsive. Asked the same question and was immediately given recommendations based on level of spiciness I like my food, his suggestion worked nicely. Looked around the store a bit, the old Ridgewood Cheese Shop is supposed to be here but it seemed to be understocked and the cheese-monger was a bit odd. So I will hold off on the cheese till my next visit and see how it goes. Good selection with reasonable pricing to buy a appropriate bottle for the Ridgewood Eatery's. read more

Tried to give Super Cellars a chance a few times and each has been a big disappointment. Unimpressive selection. Moreover, staff and the customer experience make a wine shop or liquor store. Some of the staff here are incredibly rude. I watched an employee rudely turn away customers for a wine tasting before it's scheduled end time because they wanted to go home. I watched an employee shout at a customer about parking. This store is unfit for a nice town like Ridgewood. Carlo Russo in Ho-Ho-Kus is fantastic for those looking for a real wine shop with tastings, knowledgeable and inviting staff, and an impressive selection. I call them to make sure they have the wine I need and vintage I want. Girl confirms she has 2 cases. I tell her I am about to drive 30 min each way and so I want to be sure they have it on the floor before I spend an hour driving. She says Yes!. I get there... sorry, we only have the 2011 and 2013, but not the one you called about. 2 hours later, the wine and vintage are still showing available on their website! The liquor store would get 5 stars if I could review the deli separately. Liquor staff are knowledgeable, friendly and will always give a solid recommendation without trying to sell the most expensive. However, the deli, while it produces solid food, is run by a guy who seems to resent customers. I love what they make, but never buy anything there anymore as I cannot stand the attitude of that person. read more

On my way to eat at my favorite Thai place in Ridgewood, I found this rather huge liquor store. To my surprise, the selection is fabulous, the service is even better. Each member of the team at Super Cellars is willing to provide their expertise on the wines they sell. From Napa boutique wines to Italian and French. They really have a great selection. This business is a real blessing in a town that has a number of restaurants without liquor licenses. If you are looking for 30 packs and Jaeger this is not the right place for you. Great selection of wine, beer, sake, etc. And a wonderfully knowledgeable staff. The wine selection is mediocre at best, many of the cheeses were close to their expiration dates and the staff was not friendly at all. I'm ONLY reviewing the wine portion of the store. The wine staff is great, but my wine guy left, he knew exactly what I liked and was always helpful. He helped me to expand my understanding of wine and had me try things I would never have tried. Still the wine selection is great. I like this place alot, It's one of those rare situations where you can feel comfortable asking a store employee for advice and trusting his/her recommendations. It seems as though the person who buys the wine from each region also works on the floor, for example I asked a gentleman working there about a rioja I had purchased here once before, he explained that he is the buyer of the Spanish wines and that the wine I bought a few months ago was probably on clearance when I purchased it and that they do not carry it anymore. He then gave me some tips on purchasing rioja's (who's a good importer, brands, etc.) and recommended a similarly priced rioja. I didn't fee weird not knowing what I was doing and I know i didn't get ripped off. You don't get that kind of service at most liquor stores. When I came in on a Saturday evening at around 5pm, there were 4 patrons in the store and 4 employees, which is unheard of. It's just great to have trustworthy customer service. The prices aren't bad either. I also recommend buying some of the baked goods, specifically the croissants & the baguette loaf -- both soooooo awesome. **Sign up for their email alerts, they will send you info about tastings, discounted wines (by bottle & case) & discounted food items ($.99 CROISSANTS!!!) My only complaint is in the cheese shop. The service is slow, they are pretty rude and not welcoming at all, they make you feel like unless you are purchasing alot of expensive cheese, you don't really matter (*I've only had 1 experience at the cheese shop).and the young gentleman helping me wasn't listening to anything i was asking for, "1/2 lb prosciutto"..."Oh did you want a whole pound?"..."no half" it went like that, back and forth until I finished ordering 5 items. It took 20 minutes to order 3 cold cuts & 2 cheeses. He also gave me 1/2lb of the most expensive ($16/lb) Gorgonzola, when I asked for 1/4lb of Gorgonzola (not knowing I needed to specifically mention the Gorgonzola i saw on the board at $7/lb). I will come back because their selection& price is still better than the supermarket The main thing in their favor however is the variety of fresh cheeses (styles & country of origin). **I would suggest to them to post more in depth descriptions of their cheeses maybe on pamphlets so that the customer can have a better idea of the selection. But they also strangely have an antiques section in the back room, with stuff nicer and cheaper than most other antique shops anywhere. Bizarre but fantastic combination. All I have to say is Dr.Watson. Their sandwiches are just outstanding. The baguette is fresh and perfectly crusty in every bite. The Watson is a a 21" baguette filled with thinly sliced roast beef, Swiss cheese, & TRUFFLE MAYO. BOOM enough said. This sandwhich is so simply yet filled with flavor. This place does not have the cheapest, but this is my go to liquor store. The employees here actually know what they are talking about. I've purchased many bottles of wine and beer on their recommendation and have never been disappointed. They recently renovated the store and it appears they doubled the size of the store. There is now much more inventory, and the selection is exceptional. I'm a regular at their Saturday wine tastings. They always have 4 wines to taste and they are usually bottles that I can actually afford. The tastings are very educational. They explain where the wine is from, what grapes are used, some tasting notes and even a bit of a back story on the producer. read more

The best liquor store in Bergen County. This place is huge, with a great selection of wine, liquor, and beer. Good deals! The staff really know what they are talking about and will recommend a variety of beverages (not just the most expensive.) They often have wine tastings on Saturdays. They recently added a cheese/deli section, which I don't care for (I hate cheese) but I'm sure most people would like the added amenity. Sorry, never set foot inside this store. Drove by it a bunch of times but never walked in. So, why write about it? Simple. I have sent numerous valets from my office here to pick up lunch many, many times. Unfortunately, I can't comment on their liquor selection or even on the vast majority of their food. What I can comment on is the DR WATSON sandwich and friends, I'm here to tell you that it's the best sandwich ever, period. There's genius in its simplicity, roast beef, swiss and the most amazing truffle mayo ever on fresh french bread. Now, at $20, it's not cheap but keep in mind that it can easily feed four people. That's four really ecstatic people, who are all smiling and raving to all of their friends how amazing this sandwich is. If you're in or around Ridgewood and looking to eat something truly incredible, and I don't use this word all that often. head over to Super Cellars and former Ridgewood Cheese shop, bypass the menu and order a Dr. Watson. Found everything I needed and then some! If you have not been to Super Cellars take the time to go there. The best surprise was the cheese shop. Rick and Chris know there stuff. Rick, I found out, has won cheese shop awards for many years. The selection was incredible and Rick's ability to describe and offer samples allow you to make great pairings with whatever you are buying to drink. Chris is also a great! The two of them make buying a libation of any type that much better, enjoyable, memorable, a true experience. Not sure what wine to buy super cellars has that covered as well. They have people there that know the wines as well. The between the selection of beverages (beer/wine/tequilas/etc), cheese and meats this is a one stop shop. read more

Been going here for many years BUT they just lost a customer, Bought 2 Bottles of Simi Chardonnay the sign said $13.99 didn't look at the receipt until I got home and they charge me $15.99 ??? . I go back go to the counter explain to the cashier the mistake he says he needs to get a manager , okay I wait like almost 10 minutes and one comes over doesn't even ask or apologize ! Recharges me $14.09 and walks away. I go back to the center island and ask why he didn't fix the correct amount, he says that's the best price they can do ??? I point the sign that says $13.99, another gentleman steps in and says " it's a New Jersey liquor law that they can't sell for less than Cost " I said it also a law when you are advertising a price you must sell for that price !!! , the one guy walks over to the signs and rips them will the other guy starts saying it " Human Error " mistake happen. Came here after visiting my favorite french pastry shop in search of a nice bottle of moscato. The store is large and has a great selection to pick from. I noticed that they had really nice cheese selection and picked myself up a wedge of garlic infused Brie along with some amazing cheddar and pecan crackers. The staff here is very knowledgeable and helpful with my selections. From readying the other reviews I learned that Ridgewood super cellars makes a damn good sandwich that I'm going to have to find out on my next visit. read more

Terrific location to many restaurants, which is crucial given that most places in Ridgewood are BYOB. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to get a terrific bottle of wine (already chilled) to take to a nearby Indian restaurant. They have a huge selection, however since I knew I wanted white, I made my way to the chilled section, which is smaller obviously. Sean was very helpful and knowledgeable. He asked where we were going for dinner to adequately suggest the right wine for the food pairing. He steered me to a dry reisling for a great price. There were tons of options that were more expensive that he could've sold me, but was very pleased and impressed that he didn't factor that in to the recommendation. Fantastic place! We went in specifically for sandwiches and were shocked at the great variety! And how nice everyone was! I had black forest ham with brie and spicy mustard on a baguette - amazing! And huge! I think I can get 4 meals from it! My fiancee had turkey with havarti cheese, and pesto mayo on multigrain bread. I went to get a bite and it was already gone! I was also impressed by the beer and wine selection, as well as all the cheeses and fun gadgets they had around the store. Lots to see and definitely more to buy than one trip can handle. This is the best choice for wine/beer if you are on the east side of Ridgewood and going to one of the many BYOBs. Also if you want to stock up on reasonably priced wine they always have good choices. An added advantage is the Cheese Shop of Ridgewood moved to this location when the lost their lease on Ridgewood Ave. The spreads and special foods will provide all you need for a party. read more

This is the definition of a great liquor store if you could even call it that. This shop is so amazing. Great cheeses available as well as really nice woodwork pieces like table, chairs, cutting boards etc. The wine and beer selection is really really nice and the staff are all really knowledgeable of the products. Craft beers are pretty wide in selection and originality. Prices are suprisingly average for such a nice shop. There are plenty of places to go in rwood for liquor but 99.9% of the time, I go here and thats about 2-3x a week bc odf the selection, atmosphere and staff..these guys know the meaning of service and stand by it. read more

For alcohol this place is amazing - this review is about the cheese and sandwich part of the store. I've decided to write this after 10+ experiences at this place because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. However each time was about the same. The service is extremely rude and slow. The person that is usually behind the counter acts like he's doing you a favor by making you a sandwich. Another review states pretty much the same thing. It's not worth the aggravation for me anymore. I'm not giving this place any more of my money until they address this issue. What a shame. read more
