One of the best and reasonably priced sushi in Bergen. Their special sushi/sashimi deluxe specials are so good! Make sure you order in advance! Their grocery store stuff is great too and convenient! read more

The sushi prices did go up by a few dollars, but it's still one of the best value & quality sushis in all of Bergen County!! read more

The best takeout sushi spot. Affordable and absolutely delicious. Hidden gem in a small Japanese market.

Owner was very friendly and is actually an elderly man from Japan. The sushi was as good as the ones I had in Japan, and was very fresh. The selection of snacks, beverages, and ramen from the shelves were great and also very kid-friendly. On some pieces of sushi, you can see great marbling combined with the freshness of it all. read more

Very nice lady working here. Great place to pick up some organic matcha-- prices were high, but they had a couple brands on sale along with good brands of organic miso. Matcha kit kats- crazy high price but so good! Definitely worth checking out. read more

I've come to the decision over the years that this store has the best sushi in ridgewood. Their sushi deluxe always has a variety of fish including toro and uni. And instead of giving you a standard roll - you get a high quality negi toro roll with it. The grocery always has fresh produce and a nice selection of frozen item I really love this place read more

This is the best sushi I have had in a while, and the price is unbeatable! You can get 3 order and combine them in a party tray. read more

J Mart - Sushi deluxe - Grocery Near Me - Ridgewood, New Jersey

This is purely for the sushi part of the market. Amazing fresh sushi that is on par with a sushi restaurant. We got the sushi and sashimi deluxe and it was approximately $65 bucks. The store takes credit cards. If you want to stay to more regular sushi, just do the sushi deluxe. Where can you go to get this level of sushi at this place? I drove 30 minutes to pick up my order and to be honest I am seriously hesitant to share this on Yelp. Right now this is a gem and I don't want it to change one bit. read more

Wow, don't let the storefront fool you. From the outside, it just appears to be a store with a bunch of adorable Japanese stationary items but to my surprise, this is one of the best quality sushi you can get in Bergen County!! The sushi deluxe is an amazing deal for $20 - its super fresh with great variety that includes Uni, Toro and Botanebi. Best $20 ever spent. I recommend ordering in advance so you can pick up the food quicker when you get there. Parking (street) may be a bit of a challenge but its worth it! Upon walking in, there's a bunch of Japanese snacks you can buy - prepackaged, frozen, ready to eat, beverages & etc. The sushi chef is in the back and you can shop around while you wait. LOVE this place! read more

Great quality Sushi & Sashimi, and reasonably priced. We ordered the Sushi & Sashimi Super Deluxe, Spicy Salmon Roll. Everything was delicious! I think the hardest part is placing the order... they're always very busy, and wait time can be long (40min~3 hours) depending on the day. Best to call ahead a day or two for special occasions. If you want it same day, call as soon as they open. Highly recommend read more

J Mart - Sashimi Super Deluxe & Sushi Super Deluxe with extra rolls - Grocery Near Me - Ridgewood, New Jersey

Great little Japanese grocery store. They have a little of everything from snacks, drinks, household items, ramen, groceries, AND FRESH MADE SUSHI. In house sushi chef from a well known Manhattan sushi restaurant. Made to order with cheap prices. Staff is very friendly. The place is very clean and serious about COVID. They have many staple items plus little things you won't find at larger Japanese grocery stores. Prices are fair. Some things are more expensive here but negligible amount if they are local to you. read more

It's the best sushi in New Jersey. I'm not kidding. If you like rolls with cream cheese or deep fried stuff take your candy ass down the road. This place is for real. Properly prepared, perfectly portioned, super fresh fish. What more could you want? Oh - maybe a set menu that rotates depending on what's fresh or available and a totally reasonable price? Yea ok it's that too. You have to call ahead and you'll probably have to wait a while but who cares. Decide in the morning that you want amazing sushi for dinner, call in your order and spend the whole day being excited about it. If you've been looking for legit sushi in Bergen county you've found it. You're welcome. read more

What a hole in the wall!! We just moved to Ridgewood and decided to visit J Mart for a quick Japanese snack and udon run. This place is tiny but the aisles are filled with goodies. The ladies here are also so kind and kept playing with our baby to entertain her. We were so tempted to try to sushi and I am so glad we did. The fish is freshhhhhh and I can honestly say their sushi is one of the best local spots we've tried in the area ever since moving here. .. Beats their *cough* expensivefornothingnonauthenticfakeomakasejokeofasushirestaurant neighbor for sure. read more

Cute little supermarket with a restaurant in the back. Sushi was fresh and was priced decently especially for the area. Mom and pop store that I would come back for more! read more

I strongly believe that this is hands down one of the best sushi places in town. I have ordered on multiple occasion and they're consistent. The sushi Deluxe is amazing strongly recommend and also recommend you order in advance, they do run out of fish and won't take anymore orders. read more

It's a extremely tiny shop. Ordered sushi - which took a while to get but I guess you had to call in advance. They were nice to fit our order in. Only complaint is how tiny the shop is - and with that, counters/shelves seemed overly crowded with Knick knacks - even the cashier register was an eye soar. It with was extremely difficult to navigate through, I gave up. It would be 5 stars if they Marie Kondo'd read more

I should have written a bigger review of this place ages ago. I used to go here weekly in Ridgewood when I would come back from work and want a snack to bring along with Chess at Bergen Chessmates. Good drink selection and an even better snack selection. I also should probably review again anyway since the other J. fishery (Uwomaru) closed. The sushi here is excellent as well. I got eel sushi and salmon at one other point and the stuff here is quite fresh. The nice man occasionally is out of town in Japan to pick up more stuff so you know a lot of the stuff here is nice and fresh. Of course Mitsuwa's is better. But then again, compare the size and prices and well, I kinda prefer going here read more

It's a really cute place! Everything is reasonably priced, a bit on the smaller side but otherwise a well kept store.

After reading the reviews, I decided to give this place a try. Hubs and daughter were both craving for sushi. Daughter fell in love with the market because it reminded her of the convenience stores that are seen in Japanese and Korean dramas. She took lots of pictures while we were there! I thought it was both cute and cool that there was a little sushi kitchen in the back corner of the store. I was a bit worried about encountering a long wait but my worries were all for naught. We got there around 11 and were the first there. We ordered Sashimi Deluxe and Sushi Deluxe. It's basically our go-to Sashimi Deluxe Platter. It was a 30 minute wait but it was worth it because we all loved the sashimi and sushi! Daughter and I were fighting for the salmon and tuna. LOL! While waiting for our orders, we perused the store and bought a couple of items there. There were so many things I wanted to buy and had to control myself. Neighborhood was also nice looking too. Service was friendly and quick. Will definitely return when in the area! read more

I've lived in this town for 5 years and shop here once in awhile. My kids wanted some salmon sashimi and wanted to give this place a try. Man, the toro and scallops in the sashimi deluxe is to die for. My son tried the toro for the first time and now he's hooked. Might have made a mistake cause he'll be fighting me for it from now on lol. The price is very reasonable considering what you get. Highly recommended! read more

This is most definitely my go-to sushi place! The two sushi chef's are very talented with over 30 years of experience, creating authentic, real Japanese sushi for everyone to enjoy. My personal favorite is definitely the Spicy Salmon Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll. You can definitely tell that the rice and fish are very fresh! On top of the sushi they offer, there's so many grocery options as well. There's fresh vegetables packaged everyday, fresh bread brought in every morning, a lot of grocery products and snacks to fulfill my everyday needs. I can walk in a grab a few ramen packs and some snacks, and I'm set. It's in a rather easy location, so it's convenient! The workers are also very very nice, speaking both Japanese and English! Definitely would recommend! read more

It's the most unassuming little convenience store with the freshest, most authentic, and mind-blowingly delicious sushi set in the tri-state area. The sushi deluxe set comes with 8 pieces of the best kinds of sushi (toro/fatty tuna, uni, yellowtail, sweet shrimp, scallop, ikura, squid, and another white fish) with a toro maki roll (6 pieces). For the quality and variety of sushi at $20... there's nothing that can beat it. The only caveat is that you can only order the sushi set by phone beforehand and that it is takeout only. It can take a few hours to prepare depending on how many orders you place, so make sure to call well in advance. Saito san (sushi chef) is very strict on time so come and pick up the sushi on time! Ultimately it is worth it. Seriously some of the best sushi I've had in the states. read more

Japanese Grocery Items Convenient Well Stocked Take Out Sushi Bar A welcome addition to Ridgewood this specialty store stocks a good variety Japanese food stuffs and some health conscious Japanese imported goods. The store is immaculate and well laid out, staff is friendly and helpful and the sushi bar has a nice selection of quality fish at reasonable prices. I really like the direction Ridgewood is heading with this being the second Japanese grocery to open in this diverse villages shopping district. Lucky to have Ridgewood Fisheries (Uwomaru) that has been in business for over twenty years and now J Mart (less than a year) all a short drive away. Gokouun o inorimasu J Mart! read more

Banzai! I am a closeted Japanophile, apparently, because I love this crazy Japanese market. Everything is miniaturized, including shopping carts; there are the weirdest-flavored sodas you will ever find (kimchi Ramune, anyone?), strange matcha green tea ice-cream sandwiches, and even Hello Kitty paraphernalia adorning the walls. They even have fresh sushi available at certain hours. The sushi is as nature intended, too: cheap and chopsticks-free. I eat all fast food with my hands. In a word, Jmart is superb. Think Mitsuwa in Edgewater (the latter is a korean, though) - except smaller, quieter, and more authentic. I am going to binge on Fueru Wakame now. read more

Cute little Japanese market in downtown Ridgewood. It has basic Japanese produce, ingredients, food, etc. I loved it. They also have a little sushi bar inside where they make fresh sushi. Usually, when I try a new place, I like to try something very basic because if the place you're trying is able to make something simple, delicious I think it reflects their skill and care with their other food. I tried their spicy salmon roll and it was very delicious. I can't wait to try their other sushi. Come here and be surprised that for a small store, they seem to have everything you want and need, even if you weren't looking for it. The prices are great too. read more

Clean store with trustworthy owner. Makes better sushi than most fake Japanese restaurants in Ridgewood (or Bergen county), will less price. Sushi Deluxe for $20 is a steal. And I don't need to go all the way to the bridge?! I appreciate the fact that Yuji will be honest with the fish he has. He will tell me if it's good to buy or if it is better to hold off for another delivery. read more

The store itself is expected of a Japanese grocery store. Clean, good layout, and a courteous staff. It's easy to spend a lot more than you intended walking into a store like this. Partly because of what really gives this place a 5 star review: the sushi and sashimi. The chef is a veteran, point blank. You immediately notice his skill level by how good his rice is. I seriously had to think, "what is this guy doing in a small spot like this?" But I'm sure many of his customers are extremely happy that he chose to come to J-Mart, as am I. The cuts and portions are also generous without being obnoxiously big. I have yet to experience fish that is too fresh or too old. The quality is very consistent. If you enjoy no frills quality sushi, this is a nice neighborhood gem for you. いつもお世話になったいます！ read more

When Family Mart in Waldwick, NJ closed down, I had no where but Mitsuwa to obtain my Japanese cooking and snacking supplies. That would mean driving 30 minutes to 60 minutes. Luckily when Family Mart closed down, they left a sign recommending that Family Japanese Market would open up in Ridgewood. About 1 and 1/2 years passed by, then it finally opened up. It may be unfair to compare Family Japanese Mart to Family Mart, but having it so good in comparison to the option I have now proves my disappointment. Family Japanese Market has parking, but it is on a crowded and metered street, unlike Family Mart which had an actual large parking lot. Family Japanese Market staff does not greet you or say goodbye when you enter or leave. Family Mart would greet you and say goodbye and thank you in Japanese whether you would make a purchase or not. Family Japanese Market is smaller and stocks less of a selection. Family Mart was about 4 times bigger and offered everything I needed. Family Japanese Market is priced 5%-10% higher than Family Mart. Family would grant me a free gift if purchasing over $10, and would make sushi and fresh fish purchases half priced if purchased after 5pm. I use to make purchases of Japanese products every week. I now do not even bother coming to this establishment in favor of stopping by Mitsuwa once every few months. I sorely miss Family Mart and wish they would re-open since the building they were formerly housed in still remains available. read more
