As a regular shopper at Acme -Midland Park I experienced a repeat performance in the Fish Department from 5 weeks ago. The Cod purchased and cooked the same day had an Ammonia Taste which after researching indicates the fish is not fresh. I have purposely bought the same item multiple times at Fresh Grocer with no complaints. Be careful with the fish and meat areas as many items are being sold on the date of expiration. read more

I read the a lot of "bad reviews" here, and now I know I'm not the only one. Today, I really had a terrible experience. First of all, it was ridiculous that they have a lot of cashier booths but only one was open. I went to one cashier, but she was nasty. Yes, I might press the wrong button but she should have explained to me nicely. She just kept on saying " You did something wrong" repeatedly. It was just a small issue that I can't get my receipt lol I ended up saying to her "so? what do you want me to do ? Leaving my things here? I can do that! " She said "payment was going through !" Once again I returned home to find spoiled disgusting moldy vegetables that I purchased less than an hour before at Acme. This time it was beefsteak tomatoes. they were packaged in paper tray with in clear packaging so when I looked at them and felt for firmness, they seemed ok. When I opened them at home I was literally disgusted...the stench, mold, leakage. This has happened to me on so many occasions but because it is not always easy for me to get back and forth to a grocery store, I usually end up just throwing it out rather than returning. Today was the last straw. I returned them, got refunded, had NO desire to pick out another package and I will NEVER waste any more money buying produce, or anything else, from Acme. I'm so conflicted of how many stars my review should have. From my last two experiences with a cast register Ruth who is just downright rude I would give one star. I want to explain what just happened to me today by Ruth however I come to this grocery store weekly. I want to get five stars because the selection at this Store is great and it somewhat affordable. Customer service here is impressive---I was there yesterday with a very tedious request because I wanted my $5 off $50 deal and was just $1 off -- did not notice after credit card went through. Great woman manager (wish I knew her name) and Juliana behind counter were veryyyyy helpful and fully accommodated my request. Much improved since their recent remodeling. Not sure when they did it because I had stopped going there. They now carry wine, nice bakery items and produce looked good. Can't comment on service cause I only use self checkout since the pandemic. read more

I just left your store. I went to buy my daughter baby formula and had a $15 similac check. I use these very frequently and know they should not be used in the automatic check reader. The check has instructions on it specifically stating this. Your cashier called her manager who kept putting it in the machine and telling me the machine would not take it because it was wrinkled. Please educate your employees on how to use these checks. I left without using it because they wouldn't listen to what I was saying. Any other store accepted with no problem as they are valid coupons. Very displeased, will not be returning. read more

The bakery is very good. Cake is fresh and buttercream frosting is smooth and creamy. Much better quality than most grocery store bakeries. I've ordered a few custom made items and they have never made a mistake! The entire store in general is a bit overpriced and I found that if you shop the circular then you can get some good bargains. This store is never as crowded as it used to be and the prices are really not any higher than they were when it was A&P. It could use more variety in the pet food section. I never buy meat, frozen food or produce here. I guess I go there mainly for the bakery! . read more

Came in to Acme in Midland Park today to grab a few things for the shop at work, and was "treated" to a cashier who apparently knew the woman in line ahead of me. It was the only aisle open, so I had to wait as the two of them trash-talked women they'd seen on TV at the State of the Union address last night. I could have said something in that moment, but honestly, I had a to-do list of work issues on my mind and did not come to the store for people's gross ways of expressing their political views. So I think this store has gotten better. I am a huge fan of their deli now. Everything is fresh and sliced properly. I noticed the prices have been lowered for basic items, and they've had even better deals on meat (Buy 1 get 1 Free) with better dates than in the past. Variety of products has improved as well. I feel like I need to vent. The store location is convenient. For the most part I've been satisfied with the store. Yea, the deli counter is extremely slow. The checkers (with some exceptions) are just like robots who barely acknowledge you ( but this is Jersey, I'm use to that). But, what finally brings me to writing this review is an issue I used to notice now and then, but now it's very consistent and is driving me away... I go in with my list and every single time at least 2 to 3 items (or more) I have on my list are empty on the shelf. I'm not sure if they're trying to save money and reduce their inventory on hand, or if they just don't have the staffers to restock, but it's becoming a major issue. I already have to go to Whole Foods to get certain items. Now, I'm finding that I also need to schlep into Ridgewood to go to a 3rd market just to complete my list. I don't have time for that! I was just there 8/23/18 at 7:45 pm I went on the express worst mistake I ever made. Young Man stacked up my products for me to put in the bag. When he saw how upset I was at of the ten items he put two in a bag. When I stared at him because he didn't give me my receipt he said here. What is going on in your store such poor service. How rude he was if I did that to my customers I would not have a job. Each time I shop at this store since it turned into Acme, I swear that I will never shop there again. It is close to my elderly father's home on the border of Wyckoff and Midland Park, so is a convenient location if I am on my way home from his house. I continued to give the store "a second chance." I have given them more than 10 "second chances." Even cats only have nine lives. On my last visit, all I wished to purchase was meatloaf mix. I proceeded to the meat department. The only ground meat was beef, approximately 30 pounds of it out on the shelves. Once I was able to attract the butcher's attention (there were always two people manning the department before it turned into Acme), I asked if he had any meatloaf mix in the back. He proceeded to open an entire case of it. I did not inquire why, if they had this in stock, it was not out on the shelves, as it is a very popular item. I proceeded to checkout. There were three registers open. The express line was backed up half way into the seasonal items aisle. The two woman at the front of the line had more than 30 items in their carts, but the clerk was not empowered enough to actually inform them that they had too many items and needed to check out on a regular line. I then thought that possibly, since I only had one item, I might take it to the courtesy counter. There were approximately 10 people at the courtesy counter who had already given up on the 20 minute "express" lane wait time and were checking out substantial amounts already. I gave up and waited 20 minutes to check out one item. Their produce section no longer includes items that the previous store stocked - fresh thyme, fresh asparagus not already cut and packaged, and extremely low quantities, when available at all, of loose mushrooms so a customer can choose their own. The list of items no longer in stock is too large to list them all. In addition to everything else, the clerk on the express line was extremely slow. I was a cashier when I was 16 years old BEFORE there were scanners, and I was faster than this clerk, and I had to manually enter prices and taxes, if applicable. I do not know if the issues I keep encountering are a result of poor management, or poor corporate decisions made in an attempt to reap more profits with lower overhead by not having enough cashiers available to make actually checking out your purchases in a timely manner. Yesterday was the absolute final time I will visit the store. I will now take a longer trip to ShopRite of Oakland, which is an excellent store with more sale prices and a membership card which reduces the price of sales items even further. I was a long time customer of A&P before their demise. Just about everything has gone downhill since Acme took over. Clearly they have cut back on cashiers. Their selection has disminished. The employees clearly are miserable. No one ever smiles here. But the one thing that irks me the most is how many times I find items in the dairy area where the product is way out of date. I also cannot believe how many times I open egg cartons and I find broken eggs. Additionally their deli prices have gone up 10-15% and now there is never much of a wait. I wish Acme wouldd something to improve this store. read more

I have been using this store for years, its convienant. Lately I have noticed empty shelves and produce is poor because it goes bad in a couple of days. 0 stars if I could. Produce is usually moldy on the shelf, or bad within 2 days of buying it, prices are high, customer service is poor, parking lot carts are always everywhere, lot is not well lit. Each time I have been I have waited online forever and can't get everything I need. I try to avoid going but gave it a shot tonight out of convenience...No parking lot lights on, at all. Pitch black parking lot by the time I was put at 640pm. At 6:00 2 registers were open...two!!! A monday night rush when grovery stores always have lines and they have people restocking shelves from return items? I waited on the checkout line 20 minutes with a small cart, and was half way down an aisle waiting. by the time someone opened another register and he took me, he threw, literally threw things in bags, ripping the plastic. No sorting at all or thought to heavier items, sharper items, delicates etc. He was in no rush doing this trying to be fast for the line , just very rough with everything. As I'm trying to bag things myself he decides to throw cans in with tomatoes which I notice at my car packing things onto my seat and one is mush already. 3 of my bags completely ripped just taking them out of the cart and items damaged (bags of chips, tomatoes, grapes, bananas). There were no paper bags available, I hadnt had reusable with me, and I was trying to double bag the items to help. For the price you pay, it's such garbage at the check out. overall a terrible experience. I miss the A and P that used to be here. Not worth the headache to go back to this acme, ever. read more

I have no problem with the Acme or MOST of it's employee's aside from the bogus 2 for 1 pricing. Really a Perdue Chicken for 18.00 2 for 1 When I can go to Stop and Shop or Shop Rite and get a single bird for less than $9.00. It is the old switch and bait. The inventory is poor too. However it is geographically convenient on my way home so I do stop in when I just need a couple of things. But tonight was the limit... As I left the "courtesy counter" there were two employees, one blocking the isle to the front and another sitting on the check out lane counter there at the end ( though they never open even half their counters ) swinging his legs and texting on his cell. When I tried to make a joke and say excuse me uncle XYZ ( I had heard a little child, I assume his niece or nephew call him that moments before) He took a belligerent tone and said " do I know you" ' It wasn't what he said as much as his tone, look and demeanor, If an employee is on break or whatever they should not be hanging in the register lanes, open or not, and they should not have their pardon my French asses on the checkout lane where if they ever had enough cashiers I might have to place my food. To be fair, I don't find this the young employee's fault as much as Acme's lack of training on basic retail customer service skills, I have friends and relatives from the Philadelphia area to Woodcliff lakes that say the same. As a retired VP of Corporate training I say to your HR Department you can't get your employees off their asses till you get off yours. read more

I have NEVER seen such a disfuctional market in my life. PLEASE do NOT come to this store. I will not be surprised if this store closes down in the very near future. I wanted to give this 0 stars. I wanted to get flowers for my daughters teacher and just straight off the bat there was no one working at the floral department. No worker to be seen. My daughter went to customer service to ask if anyone could help us and they called on the intercom 3 times for someone to help and in total took 10 minutes to get someone to help us that has never wrapped flowers in their life. The lady was so unhelpful that I ended up wrapping the flowers by myself. The flowers are no cheap either and was such a horrible experience. Please do NOT come to this store. read more

Acme wasn't always my go-to when it came to buying groceries. However, they lowered the prices and have a lot of new products in store that make me, as a customer, more satisfied. Also, when they have sales, they are great! The prices, personally, can't be beat. read more
