Do NOT go! I am a frequent visitor of most restaurants in the Ridgewood area. I just left the restaurant "From Scratch" very dissatisfied. As previously mentioned, the name of the restaurant is "From Scratch", yet interesting only 2 pasta dishes are made from scratch, the fettuccini dish and a ravioli special. The other dishes are "imported" pasta. Strangely, they ran out of the fettuccini on a Wednesday night (not the weekend), so I ordered the only other dish that is made "from scratch", the ravioli special. For $25, I had 4 small cheese ravioli. I have never in my life left one restaurant, only to seek another to satisfy dinner. However, "From Scratch" has won this dubious distinction with their incompetence. My standards are not unusually high. Go to "From Scratch" only if you want to waste your time & money! read more

Love this place and the concept. Finally, some quality Italian food in Ridgewood made by people that actually know Italian food. Small but charming place with excellent food and service at a reasonable price. I will be back again for sure. Just a headsup - the menu has a pretty limited selection, but the Chef will prepare items normally found on the catering menu. I think having a limited selection of items executed well is far more important than having a mediocre assortment of "something for everyone". My wife and I shared the Misto appetizer which was very generous in size. She had pasta and I had the crusted salmon. I'm usually not a fan of salmon, but it was excellent. We had a delicious dinner here tonight. Very fresh and put together beautifully. You can absolutely tell that the food was made with love...somehow...which i don't think i was able to say before about any other restaurant. Even the dessert, we had the Nutella ricotta pie which was a large piece and heavenly, Even better than it sounds. Icing on the cake was when the chef came over and asked us if we liked the food. Very nice touch and meant a lot. My only problem with the experience was that it was so hot. I don't know if it was because we were sitting next to the kitchen, or maybe the AC wasn't working. The rest of the experience was so good that it does outweigh that negative, but we would've liked to stay longer if the temperature was comfortable. Thanks for a great meal!! read more

If you want to find "the real deal" of Italian quality food you have to go to Italia di Gusto in Ridgewood. After moving to America from Italy, I was finally able to enjoy those authentic flavors I grew up with. All the products that are sold and cooked in this amazing place are unique gems of the Italian heritage. For instance you can find the authentic Formaggio di Fossa still preserved in the caves of Montefeltro, as local farmers used to do hundreds of years ago. In addition to the amazing products, the recipes passionately cooked from Claudia are just like those that my grandma used to make. Just came back from dinner with my wife. Terrific experience overall. Definitely going back and highly recommend others to try out. Food was very high quality - highly recommend the meat & cheese board. I had the special pasta, eggplant ragu dish ("Paccheri") which was exceptional. Complementary poland spring water is a nice convenient touch. Service was friendly and informative (almost educational in the sense that the owner took the time to explain what part of Italy the particular cuisine/ingredients are from). Really impressed with the decor - very modern but retains warmth; you also get a view into the kitchen which is cool. Didn't have room for dessert but we had the espresso which was also very good. They also sell some of the ingredients they use in the kitchen - pasta, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, various jams, all from Italy it appeared - if interested. read more

Simple, clean, authentic Italian food. We ordered two pasta dishes and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente in both. We also ordered beef stew over polenta, and it was one of the best entrees I've had in some time. The stew was rich, flavorful, and vibrant, while the beef was tender, but not quite fall-apart tender. We would have had dessert but were too full. For what you get in authenticity (it's actively run by the owners/chefs who recently arrived from Rome, Italy), preparation (homemade, all in-house), and quality, the prices are very reasonable. Had a very nice authentic Italian meal last night. The restaurant is very small only a handful of tables so probably not good for larger groups but perfect for date night for me and the hubby. We did have a table that we basically shared with the couple next to us which at first seemed to close for comfort but it worked out. We ordered the burratta which was very good and prosciutto crostini for appetizer. The portions were pretty large for appetizers and my only complaint was that I like my prosciutto sliced a tad bit thinner. But the scarmozza was nice giving it a smoky flavor. We both had pasta for entrees. My husband had carbonara which he said was good but wouldn't order it again, and I had homemade fettuccini with sausage and San marzano tomato sauce. The fettuccini was excellent. Pasta had the perfect bite and consistency and the sauce was just right. We finished with dessert and it did not disappoint. There was a great selection of desserts and I had trouble picking but went with an apple cake that was moist, light and delicious. We shared it not having much room left to have our own. My husband and I visited From Scratch last night and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The restaurant is on the smaller side (maybe 10-ish tables) and has a bright, cozy look to it. The servers were very nice and the restaurant itself was extremely clean. We started with the caprese, which had the most delicious imported mozzarella (you can definitely taste the difference) and ripe tomatoes lightly dressed in olive oil. My husband ordered the Italian lemon-like soda. It is pricey at $3.50, but it is well worth it. The soda was like a crisper, more natural-tasting Sprite. For our main course, I ordered the spaghetti with pepper and Parmesan cheese, and my husband ordered the chicken with prosciutto. The spaghetti was fresh and was one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. My husband's chicken was tender and came with a lightly dressed salad. We were too stuffed for dessert, but they had some great options. We opted for two cappuccinos. Price-wise, I thought the restaurant was very reasonable, especially for the quality of ingredients. Most, if not all, dishes are under $20. One small complaint is that I felt the chairs were slightly uncomfortable, but that didn't take away too much from my overall experience. Tiramisu was the best dessert I have had in years .
