Chicken Portofino

Domani Ristorante Italiano 387 Washington Ave. Hillsdale, NJ 07642 Stuffed Mushrooms Chicken Portifino By this point, I've definitely had my share of Italian dining from multiple locations. I'm sorry to reveal this place is not winning the race. Although the appetizer and entree have a less than stellar appearance, the taste was slightly better...but not by a long shot. For approximately $2 per mushroom, the mushroom was small and the bread crumbs were on the soggy side. The entrée looks similar to the inside of a blood orange...between the red/pink brandy sauce and the sun dried tomatoes. To top it all off, static music was playing in the background while I was eating this meal. At least the pasta and portofino tasted better than it looked, but I still won't have a repeat experience with this dish.

I was craving Italian tonight and decided to get takeout from Domani. Food was pretty good and I wouldn't mind coming back again. I ordered Buffalo wings, Chicken Marsala, Pappardelle Funghi, and Chicken fingers & fries for the kids. Everything was well made and the portion sizes were good. Total came out to be around $80, which I think is reasonable.

Pleasantly surprised with how good this place was :) and the drinks are really well priced! Very tasty. This place came on a recommendation from a friend and I will definitely be back!

We ordered a Cheese Pizza and Domani salad to go from Domani. The service was excellent, and we didn't have to wait long for my order. The atmosphere was lively and busy, especially for a Thursday night. Overall, great experience, and I would recommend!

Fried Calamari - Traditional

I came here for dinner on a Saturday night with my family. We sat outside which was pretty nice. It's a family place in the neighborhood. We ordered the traditional fried calamari (mild), the seafood salad, and the Domani special pizza (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, mushrooms, onions). The calamari was crispy and not heavily breaded. The seafood salad was fresh and had a lot of seafood. The pizza had a good chew and had a lot of toppings. The only thing that I didn't like was that the mushrooms were canned and not fresh. This place definitely had big portions and affordable. Service was okay but took a while to even get us utensils. I would come back since the food was pretty good.

My family and I - long suffering from our own little Coronavirus Cabin Fever Calamity - had enough! It was time to go to a restaurant and actually stay there for dinner!! What a concept!! Luckily, Domani set up some tables outside and their staff were all equipped with masks and gloves. All good!! It was so nice to get some semblance of normalcy in our lives again. We truly enjoy eating out - even our son, who's only on the cusp of entering his teenage years, is a mini-foodie already. The Maitre'd was wonderful - so welcoming, and our server was great. We enjoyed a cocktail to start off the July 4th weekend, with apps and some nice entrees afterwards. No dessert this evening Had the crispy teriyaki calamari special - it was OK. Fresh, not chewy at all, but didn't seem like it was made on premises - seemed more like previously frozen calamari. Made me long for Rudy's calamari in Cliffside, or E&V in Paterson back in the day. The potato croquettes were better and the personal size margarita pie for my son was very good. My entree, a seafood puttanesca, was excellent. With sea scallops, scungilli, and shrimp over linguini in a red sauce with black olives and capers, it was well balanced. Great dish! My wife's Gnocchi Bolognese topped with ricotta was very good as well. Our server was attentive, cheery and busy! Glad to see Domani is doing well in this prolonged challenging period for the restaurant industry. Note: Their menu is enormous- almost too much. But so far I've enjoyed a variety of seafood dishes here and the food has always been good. This spot is definitely in our rotation of Italian places in the area. Try Domani if you're in the Hillsdale area. Worth the trip!

This review is based on service over the phone for pickup order and pizza quality. We ordered over the phone and had difficult time having the woman hear us. She seemed new, so all our questions were relayed to someone else, but still she was patient and kind. Finally the call was taken over by a man who had all the answers, and he was nice as well. We ordered a personal style thin crispy crust pizza, topped with onions, spinach, cheese, olives and mushrooms. They told us 20 mins for pickup. Also an order of garlic bread. We arrived, took it back home down the street. We were disappointed in seeing the glaring bread, it was literal open faced bread slathered with garlic butter i guess or butter with garlic powder, but very hard and just burnt garlic taste. Hoping the pizza would save the day, but that also was not hot anymore, the olives didn't seem like it hit the fire like all the other ingredients. as if just placed on top as is. What a sad experience. Total was $20+. Customer service over the phone was 5/5 though.

Good standby, but don't bother ordering the veal, portion teeny-tiny. Maybe they were running low...

Bellissimo: Please Stop Rushing Us!…read more Bellissimo is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I've probably eaten here close to 100 times over the last 15+ years, and I probably take my family here a couple times per month. The food is good, prices are fair and you absolutely can't beat their lunch special deal (soup, salad and your entree for a set price). However, I was somewhat annoyed after my last visit. It was our last lunch before sending my daughter off to college. We were eating our first course, the soup, when someone came over to anxiously clear off plates. Two people finished their soup, but another two were still eating at the table. This drives me nuts. I wish they'd just wait until everyone finishes a course before clearing. What happened next is what set me over the edge. People came out with our salads and one guy was trying to take my daughter's soup away while she was still eating it. After we stopped him, he then wanted to just squeeze it on the table beside her. Sheesh. I was so annoyed and didn't understand why they're rushing us. There were only 5 tables of customers there for lunch that day. What was the F'ing rush?! Our waiter, who has been there for years, blamed it on some new kitchen waiter they got. Regardless, it ruined the meal and we didn't even get the main courses yet. That general culture here of anxiously clearing plates away has always annoyed me. I wish they'd wait for everyone at the table to finish a course before clearing for the next one. I still love Bellissimo and will definitely be back. But please... let us eat!

As usual we brought 2 bottle of red and 1 of white wine. They were nice to chill the white wine for us. We ordered the fries calamari with the tomato sauce. I ordered from the special menu the stuffed pork chop on the bone, wow mind blowing. Mushroom, roasted potatoes, a big old chop stuffed with Mozzarella cheese in a tomato ragu. Totally delicious, and so big i think all we needed was a side of pasta to make it a winning dish. I end up ordering a full order of linguini in clam sauce aling with the chop and the wife and I ate like royalty!. The meal was excellent, the waiter was nice to bring us a bday platter with fresh stiffed mini cannoli !

We started with the seafood salad, which we get every time. It's not on the menu, but they can make it for you. During this evening, it was actually on the specials menu. The seafood salad should come out with calamari, scungilli, shrimp and octopus. There was no octopus this time. I pointed this out and the owner checked in the kitchen. They said they only had one small piece and cut it up...even smaller, then just added more scungilli. But, there was no octopus...at all. Regardless, it's still a delicious dish and hopefully they can execute it better next time. For entrees, we had the rigatoni da vinci and the veal sorrentino. They also bring house salads in between, which are appreciated. The rigatoni was a big portion and tasted great... Almost like the flavors your get from Shrimp or lobster bisque soup. The crab in the dish is dispersed so don't expect to eat a chunk of crab. The veal was prepared perfectly and you get two cutlets. Tasted great, but that's all that's on the plate. For the price, I feel like it should come with a bit of penne or some mixed veggies. Something. I wouldn't order this again and it's sort of an empty dish for me. All in all, was still a great meal and we'll be back.

Overpriced special and a major disappointment…read more I stopped in last night to check out Fig & Tomato as a potential venue for our 12-member men's club. Since it was my first time, I asked the waitress for recommendations. She was very friendly and attentive, suggesting a few menu items and two specials. She didn't mention the prices, and I assumed they would be comparable to the rest of the regular menu. I ordered the cod special (pictured). Unfortunately, the food was nothing to write home about--it was way too salty and heavily overpowered by garlic. The real shock came with the bill: the cod was $47.95. I've been to true fine dining restaurants that don't charge that kind of money for cod, and I was incredibly upset. I told the waitress directly that the special felt like a massive ripoff. While the service itself was pleasant, the predatory pricing on unlisted specials ruined the experience. I guess I'm just glad I checked it out alone first--saving us from having 12 angry club members writing 12 terrible reviews. Needless to say, our club will be taking our business elsewhere.
