I was at a conference today at UC Davis and saw this place when I was wondering around looking for a Starbucks for coffee in the morning. I saw Froggy's Bar and Grill and made a note to come back for lunch. Granted, this place isn't a high brow place. The guy at the bar was talking about his sister who was locked up at the Yolo County jail and how she was wanting to stab him. Uh huh. So I ordered a Fat Tire and the menu had the standard bar fare. I ordered the Chicken Pesto sammich and wow! What a find at this little dive bar! The chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked, the pesto was great and the sammich had just the right amount. The seasoned curly fries were crisp and tasty. They even has Classic NHL hockey on, so I got to watch the 1984 Game 3 Stanley Cup game. 5 stars! read more

The best burger in Davis. Not an amazing place to go to if you're on a diet. Done for the day after Picnic Day? Can't go wrong with the Chee-Z Burger. Something a little healthier, I recommend the Turkey Sandwich, great avocade spread. Goes great with the fries and all the extra-seasoning you want on the table a la Red Robin. My hubby and I stopped in for some drinks with his brother who was in town for training. I will say that we're probably a decade or two older than the typical clientele. We had already eaten dinner and "brother-in-law" wanted a spot to watch the game. I turned to Yelp and found Froggy's. The two boys had beers - not much you can really do to mess up those...and I ordered a Cosmo - which was served on the rocks in a short glass. I've never had a Cosmo that way and had I known it wasn't going to be served like a martini, I probably would have passed it up and ordered something different. Flavor was decent, though. Like I said, we didn't eat, but some other patrons came in and ordered food and several of the burgers looked really good. I'm a bit perplexed as to how this is classified as a "dive bar." It didn't have that feel for me. The lighting was a bit bright for evening time...it just seemed to me like a little mom and pop place trying to be a "bar & grill." Service was good. Ah yes, Froggy's. Well, lets face it. It's Davis, CA. Not NYC or DC or LA. Keep that in mind an you will have a decent time. No cover. Not dressy. Get's busy around 11 on a weekend with the typical college-age patronage. No Girls Gone Wild truck outside, and most seem to be able to handle their drink. However sometimes you'll spy a skirt, who's too light-in-the-ass, practicing involuntary bulimia in a garbage can out front. Perhaps you'll dodge a frat boy that thinks he's bulletproof on the way out the door, but the bouncers are quick to make sure those forms of entertainment are relatively short-lived. The place has a good vibe. Good looking crowd. Good time-tested songs in the juke. The bartenders are above average, and if tipped well become even more so. I'm not talkin' Tom Cruise character in Cocktail (with the flipping and the floppin of the bottles and shiat) but they get the job done and they know what's up. The waitresses are swift, and cute making the act of rushing the bar like a Metallica show not quite as necessary every time you need a refill. The place is about 1000 square feet plus or minus 50. When it gets busy, the cleaning of tables becomes secondary to the selling of the drinks. If you want a clean spot Nyles, post up at the bar. The liqueur selection seems to adequately address its demographic. You can get most of your bombs on: Yager, Irish Car, Atomic, "G" etc. You can get your AMF, your B52, your G.T.O. and other head-spinning acronyms. But you can also find a few nice burbons and a Scotch or two. I enjoy Woodfords, so I was happy. Beer is of course the mainstay so don't go expecting Louis Roderer to be there, or Hennessy Paradis. I mean come on!!! They don't have a VIP section and you aint P-Diddy!!! The restrooms are tiny keeping the lines long. If I have one true complaint it would be that they need to expand on that. Last night during their karaoke night, we waited about two hours to even get to sing one of our two songs we requested EARLY and it definitely seemed like the DJ or whoever was setting up the songs for karaoke was not going in order in terms of who turned in their song requests. It seemed like he would always choose the same people to sing. He even had the audacity to come over to us And ask us our names, commenting that he's noticed "we've been here a while and next time it'll help if we tipped" that was definitely an uncalled for action and request! How do you expect any tip when it's been the second night in a row that you haven't called our names for a karaoke song... I doubt I'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

Order: Blue Buffalo Burger and Cajun Fries I was looking forward to this place, but left pretty disappointed. Ordered my burger medium and it came way overcooked. Patty was dry and lacked flavor/seasoning. I enjoyed the toppings especially the blue cheese spread, but the actual burger tasted like your typical diner burger. It's kind of pricey here but the burgers are really good. I got the blue bacon burger and my oh my was it good! You can taste each individual ingredient that goes into the burger. However, the sad part about the burger is that the bun gets pretty soggy after awhile. On a high note, the fries that comes with the burger are cooked to perfection! I'm a huge fan of crispy fries with a bit of softness in the inside and these fries deliver just that! I could eat them all day long! They kind of remind me of McDonald's fries but better. read more

Froggy's is alright. I just don't find myself going there that often. The beer selection isn't the greatest and neither is the whiskey. I like to sip my whiskey but the best they had was Woodford's Reserve so I threw it back to make it less painful, and by throw it back I mean I shot it, and by shoot I mean I drank it fast. It's a little cramped in Froggy's but some may consider that cozy. I hear they have food during the day but I've never tried it. It's just an ok place to meet up with some friends and it's walking distance from Woodstock's, G Street Pub, Sophia's and other bars downtown. The waitresses here are so nice that they're crushworthy. Service here definitely rocks, and it's what makes me come here more often than, say, Burgers and Brew. The burgers are extremely good. They're moist, thick, juicy... Basically everything that you'd make fun of me for because they all sound dirty. I try to order mine well-done because anything less than that will result in a very soggy bottom bun, and soggy buns are never fun. They've got lots of variety - a whole menu dedicated to burgers, really. If you're not sure of what to order, cheese and bacon can do you no wrong. Love their hamburgers. My husband only orders the Cajun. I keep trying to convince him to try something new but he absolutely loves this burger. I have tried many. All with good flavor which is due to the meat. It is tender, juicy, and well seasoned. Delicious! They almost go down a star though for their service. Don't expect any favors, special attention, or quickness. And I highly suggest cutting your burger in half before eating. I have a soft spot for Froggy's because it brings back fond memories of my 21st. Home to the world's nicest bartender, it can be quite awkward to order drinks sometimes because there isn't a whole lot of bar space. Nevertheless, plop yourself down on a bar stool, absorb the ambiance, and appreciate at it. It's probably my favorite bar in Davis, because Froggy's doesn't feel like it's trying too hard to be cool. Went Wednesday, split a hamburger with my sister. Perfectly cooked, juicy, little bit of guacamole and French fries. I can't tell you why this burger is so good but it really is. The burgers served here are really really good. Got the jalapeño burger and had an incredible experience.

Pros: The sliders are great (and a fair price), as are the "dirty girl scouts" (a minty drink that doesn't taste too alcoholy, but expensive for the volume). Cons: The service here was pretty terrible. My group of 8 arrived at the end of happy hour and the waitress TOLD us to wait outside for 5-10 mins until there was room for our entire party to sit together. We waited outside. We were seated 6 minutes after happy hour ended. She refused to give us a deal or happy hour prices (despite the fact we arrived BEFORE happy hour) and we couldn't be seated because of the size of our group. When we were inside, we asked to combine tables, but again, this posed a problem for the waitress. We couldn't have everyone sit together because of a "fire hazard." Of course she couldn't have figured this out when we first walked in...we ended up having more friends join the party, which was nice and we were able to talk her into letting us put tables together (but it was a pain). I have worked in a restaurant and both 1) not giving us the happy hour price and 2) not wanting to move tables would have gotten me in huge disciplinary consequences from the owner. Not acceptable at all. Not welcoming. Unprofessional. Waitress didn't care at all. Oh, they charge 18% gratuity for any group of 6 or more. Need to say, we didn't give her more than 18%... Been here couple times when it was not crowded. The fries were freshly made and heavenly. Crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. Not sure if they are this good when the place is busy. If asked, they are willing to make the burger a bit less cooked which is nice. The garlic blue cheese sauce goes well with the burger and fries. Over the last couple of months I've had to take my dog several times to the UC Davis vet hospital. I'm from out of the area and have to wait in Davis for the day. I've gone to froggy's for lunch 4 times now. The food and staff are amazing. The female bartender who takes the food orders is on point. She is definitely a multitasker and the food comes out of the kitchen hot and quick. The quality of their hamburgers is juicy, tasty and quite frankly the best I've ever had. I personally choose to sit outside in their outdoor dining area but the inside is currently open as well. We love coming here for brunch on Sundays (yes, they are open on Sunday even though Yelp says otherwise). I think this is one of the only true bottomless mimosas place in Davis. The mimosas are pretty strong too The staff is friendly and very attentive. The food is delicious. For brunch I recommend ordering the breakfast quesadilla. A lot of people tell me this place is comparable to Burgers and Brew (One of my favorite restaurants in Davis) I went here with one of my old preschool friends. I believe she ordered the mushroom burger and I got the Texas burger?? We decided to cut each other half so we could taste what the other burger tasted like. When the burgers came out, we cut the burgers in half to give to each other. I noticed that the bottom bun was a little soaked form the greasiness. Both burgers were pretty tasty and juicy. My only problem is that it was a bit too greasy. However, the fries were good - nice and crispy. For the same price, I would definitely go to burgers and brew. The environment is much nicer. But if you prefer sitting in a bar like environment, try froggies out. Ask for extra napkins because it can and will get messy! read more

Good people, fun atmosphere and the Wednesdays were priceless. Mix in a good group of friends, a little Coldshot, and you have a night to remember. Best Burger in Davis. Don't even start to tell me about Burgers and Brew, I've been there many times as well. Froggy's is always a stop in my trips back to campus. Their burgers are always cooked to my liking (medium rare) and the buns and other toppings are always fresh. I am disappointed they no longer have curly fries with their orders, it used to be standard. And it's always a chill place to drink so long as the DJ isn't there, which is also a good time too if you don't want the crazy club scene down the street at KetMoRee. Love this place! This is our go to burger joint. HUGE burgers (I was starving and could barely finish my burger) You can get pretty much any topping you want. My husband went with a blue cheese burger, I chose a jalapeno burger with spicy creamy sauce. We both thought ours were awesome! Fries were good too. The best part is the price. I think our bill was like 15 bucks or something like that. You can't beat the quality of these burgers for that price. Service was good. We went here on New Year's Eve to experience the bar side of it, and it was a lot of fun. I would imagine it's pretty fun on the regular weekends too. A classic Davis fixture! Fun to eat at and chill. I got the shroomy Swiss burger with fries and it was really good. You get a solid amount of food and it would pair perfectly with a beer. The fried were really crispy and flavorful even without condiments. Service was friendly but this place does take a bit of time for food which is chill if you're here with friends and chilling watching some sports or something. Pretty tasty burgers! That Campus Special Coupon book has a 25% off coupon for burgers, which is the reason I first stopped by Froggy's for food. Perfectly grilled patties and buns, with the toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc.) on the side, so you can choose how much you want in your burger (and can always ask for more!). Their fries are also pretty tasty (not at all soggy, great crispiness level without being super burnt, and are perfect compliments to the burgers. Service is normal - not horrible, but not super friendly or anything, which is fine. I just like having my water refilled every now and then. The bar is okay - a little beat up and crowded at times, but I definitely don't mind because the bartenders are friendly!
