It's not often that I give a perfect review. The food, the ambiance, the decor, and the fair prices for such quality, blew me away. You can literally feel the chefs passion in the flavor and presentation...it's rare to see that kind of care in a small establishment. My husband ordered the burger, which was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. It's not for the faint of heart, it is stacked with incredible layers of carefully chosen, quality ingredients, but you won't put it down once you pick it up! The hand cut fries, need their own sentance! They are presented in a miniature fry basket, which is adorable, and very fitting. The taste, natural but seasoned perfectly. Born and raised in Maryland, I chose to add Old Bay, but it just made good taste even better. I personally ordered the Filet. For less than $25, I had an extraordinary cut of meat, and huge portion of fresh sauteed asparagus and mashed potatoes. I'm not ashamed to say I cleared my plate. The meat...oh, the meat...tender, juicy, and I cut it with a butter knife. Why? Because I could! I was told they were cooked on lava rocks for evenness, and rubbed with a Brazilian rock salt to cook in the natural flavor, in leiu of seasoning, and I'm so impressed. I never knew steak could taste that good without random chef chosen seasonings. Needless to say, if you are a red meat person; eat here. Or, if you are human and appreciate flair, passion, and excellence in your meal, eat here. I declare a do-over! A do-over of ever reading these reviews on this establishment and being "Yelped" to actually try this place out! DAY/TIME: Sunday, 2pm AMBIANCE/DECOR: nice. Main sitting area at center of space with bar and lounge on the side. SERVICE: Waitress was attentive enough without being too over bearing but she also wasn't anything extraordinary to the point she gets an extra star. We were pretty much the only ones in the restaurant, so she was able to handle our party. She also looked like LaLa from Vanderpump Rules but with glasses. It didn't hit me until the day after. FOOD: okayyy. The most important part! Here's a list of what everyone got and their thoughts on the food... - Small Plates, Cheddar Mac N Cheese - The way it was presented literally made my mouth water. However, it was bland. We had to add salt to make it taste better. - Small Plates, Camarao Empanada (Shrimp) - The party like this a lot. This was a winner. - Small Plates, Coxa Crème (Chicken skewer w/ hot sauce and Yuca seasoning) - This was good too. Kinda would have preferred this as my main meal; however, I would've had to get like 4 of them as the small plates serving is literally only one skewer. - Small Plates, Provolone a Milenasa (fried mozzarella balls with their tomato sauce) - this was good. All it was is a mozzarella stick in a ball. - Small Plates, Crab Dip - The party said they liked this too. They ate it all up. - Sirloin - 3 people in the party got this and they all said it was over-cooked and dry. Needed steak sauce for flavor. - Cobb Salad - Basic with nothing notable. - X-Tudo Burger - This was expressed to us that it was sooo good. This burger had a fried egg, corn, potato sticks and ham on it. It was so much but the waitress talked me into it. 3 of us in the party got this. My reaction? Yuck. How do you burn a bun though? And on all of them? Literally, burned the top bun so bad it was brown and you could flick the bun and a piece flies off. I had to remove it in order for it to be edible. The burger was overcooked and it just had absolutely no flavor. All 3 who got this agreed it wasn't good. One of us asked for medium rare and all of ours were all cooked the same way... Well done... - Salmon - The one person who got this said it was really good and was satisfied with their meal. - Chicken Strips - Burnt and crispy... This is a great place to eat on Kent Island. My husband and I found them via YELP last month. I love their menu which to me was a delightful fusion of European, South American and Caribbean flavors. I fell in love with the Avocado appetizer. It's enough to share or to have as a meal. The empanada appetizer is also delicious. I chose the seafood option and it was perfect. Staff and service are impeccable, pricing reasonable, and portions generous. We have recommended Frix's to others and we will definitely return. read more

First visit was for lunch. Reviews are spot on from yelp. We ate at the bar, waitress was extremely pleasant and accommodating. When you first look at the menu you see a very nice blend of traditional and eclectic fare. This place has a nice Brazilian -American fusion going on To start, we had goat cheese stuff peppers. Amazing flavor. My girlfriend had the Asian salad with salmon which was done perfectly. I had the Brazilian steak and cheese sub and fries. My wife and I stopped in, since we had heard that Frix's was good. I had a ribeye steak, medium-rare, with sauteed mushrooms, and fried bananas. My wife had lamb chops, with sweet potato fries and sauteed spinach. The steak was perfectly cooked, and was very good. My wife's lamb chops were also cooked perfectly, and very tender. My only quibble with the whole meal was that the lamb was a bit heavy on the mint. Overall very good, and definitely worth a try. read more

Update: apparently the owner of this place did not like my review. He sent me a link to the Anthony Bourdain clip where he rants against people who leave Yelp reviews, and a message that said "Ok Jumbo Shrimp" - referencing Bourdain's comment that elite yelpers are an oxymoron. Cool. I guess he showed me. I can't imagine what kind of nonsense he sent to the people with really bad reviews. My original review (I haven't changed the 3 stars): Maybe everyone else graded this place on a curve, but I can't echo all the rave reviews. Everything about this restaurant was average, except the prices. Food was unremarkable, service was a bit lacking, and decor/ambiance was nothing special. This place has all the ingredients of a great restaurant. The food is creative, the ambiance is relaxing and fun, and the service is on point. This is my second visit here, and again everything was good. We had several small plates and they were done well and served promptly. The bread they serve is my favorite kind, crusty on the outside, soft in the middle. We shared a creme brûlée for dessert-super good. Our waiter was great. He was super attentive. This place is pretty good for the area. The food is generally good and the service excellent. My main complaint would be that it over cooks the steaks, mainly because they are thinner than expected. I order a med-rare and ended up getting med-well at best. Just disappointed. The seafood option another in my party looked great and she said it was delicious. I would recommend that they just adjust their steaks to be thicker and better train their grill man. I will just stick to their brunch menu and burger though. read more

Wow. Just wow. Anderson took great care of us and I wish we lived closer!! We stopped here on the way back from the beach because traffic was super slow and we were hungry!! Everything we had was amazing!! I had the lamb chops which were some of the best lamb chops I've ever had! They serve it with a side of chimichurri but it's not really necessary as the chops were so perfectly flavorful on their own. As a side the server recommended the mushrooms and spinach and while I thought it was an odd suggestion I went with it. SO GOOD! we also had the chicken and rice soup, kids chicken fingers (which were homemade and delicious) Husband had the petit tenderloin! Absolutely a great find!! read more

I would highly recommend eating at this establishment if you are in the area. Every aspect of our dining experience was great. The service was top notch. The server was working by herself and was seating, serving and cleaning things up. She did a phenomenal job at everything she did and was she was very friendly to boot. Good variety of choices but I had the stuffed avocado with two shrimp -delish and very filling for $12. The cheese pastry was also excellent. My husband had the salmon. It was distinctly grilled as on a wood fire and excellent. Will probably return on our way home from the beach. We returned again in September and had the lamb chops - out of this world! And the sautéed mushrooms: I could have a meal of them. My husband's Mahi Mahi shrimp was also excellent. The bread is irresistible as well. I guess you cannot get a bad meal here. Overpriced. The service wasn't great. The food quality was subpar. The signature favorite steak could have been mistaken for Denny's.

Really, really good food. All the dishes were unique. A great blend of Brazilian and American. The meat and fish on the grill was great. We had an amazing appetizer. And the place is really well done inside as far as design and the level of finish. It is a good looking place, and the bar seems really fun. This is a gem and anyone local should be a regular. I went here with my family of 5 (We just happen to be African Americans). When we walked in, the lady at the front desk told us that we had to make a reservation, and that there would only be seats available at 7:30. I forgot to mention that the place was empty. My mom went there the weekend before and she didn't have to make a reservation. Also when we got in the car, another family member called them and they said you didn't need a reservation. There was another family behind us who were white , and I know for sure they got a seat and their family was around the same size as us. I'm not sure what to think. read more

What a turnaround! We gave Frix's a shot shortly after it opened a long while back. We were deeply disappointed. Food was satisfactory, but service was abysmal. It ended up on our "list" and we never went again. Tonight on a whim, my wife, (almost) 2-year old daughter and I decided to give it another go. What a surprise. The food was excellent and the service matched. My wife had the special consisting of an Avocado filled with crab, fresh peppers and corn, with a citrus marinade. I had more traditional Brazilian fare which included steak, sauteed onions, covered with fried egg and a side of rice and black beans. The flavors were authentic and the prices were fair. The only negative worth mentioning is having once ordered a sirloin that was cooked well-done when I asked for medium, otherwise I'd be hard-pressed to find any real negatives about this place. We've lived in the area for 3 years and this was our first time visiting. I wish I had tried it sooner! Don't let the hidden strip mall location fool you! This is a hidden gem! Great food, attentive wait staff, and classy interior. I had the mahi special which was wonderful as was the cocktail and dessert! Ruin your diet with the creme brulee, it's worth it! Coming home from Disney and we needed to stop to get an early dinner. Looked on Yelp and found this hidden restaurant! Food was very good! Fresh and nicely prepared. Prices were very reasonable and portions perfect! Great job! We started with the stuffed avocado(just needed some lemon or lime to it and salt) very good. If you want to eat here do it soon because this place is on my list of restaurants that won't make it to their 1st anniversary. Frix's bills itself as a Brazilian steakhouse. The problem is that the gold standard is Fogo De Chao where you are served table side from a variety of meats cycled around the restaurant. Frix's puts steak on a plate and brings it to your table. This puts them out of the novelty restaurant category and squarely in competition with every other restaurant on Kent Island who have better locations, better views, and frankly, better food. My best advice to the owners is to do a table side service at least one weekend night to generate buzz and differentiate themselves. As for our meal - as mentioned in another review the appetizer called Coxa Crema is two deep fried chicken drumsticks that are bland served with a hot sauce that is not too far off from Texas Pete's. We also had the stuffed piquillo peppers which were ok. They were stuffed with a cheesy mushroom goo and were neither unpleasant nor awesome. The house sirloin was an average sirloin steak that was cooked well. Seafood offerings were shrimp and Mahi - Mahi which is curious because one would assume that access to fresh seafood wouldn't be all that difficult on the shore. The mixed drinks were uneven and the wine selection was what one would expect. So is this a good review or bad? Well, much like Frix's, it's neither. The restaurant neither amuses nor disappoints which, for them, will be their downfall - they are competing with every other restaurant on the shore who, quite honestly, does it better. read more

Frix's is not what you expect if you've been to other Brazilian restaurants in bigger cities. No meat bring carried around the place and sliced for you. But I'd take frix's over the bigger places any day. The meat is amazing! The food overall is very simple but the most flavorful and delicious meal I have had anywhere on kent island or the narrows. The decor and atmosphere are simple, comfortable, and perfect for the island. Our first visit the service was so so. The server was very nice but didn't do a good job telling us about the food, when I asked how it was prepared she just said it's really good. I hesitated to get something as trite as the crab dip, but was pleasantly surprised - real MD crab and delicately, but not under spiced. Good wine selection, good rum and coke.
