It's been probably 20 years since I was last in a Frisch's but I do have fond memories of going when I was a kid. I went with the classic Big Boy platter with fries and cole slaw. It wasn't as good as I remembered, but it was decent. For someone who doesn't eat fish, I sure do love tartar sauce. It's surprisingly good on a burger. The building is older, but well maintained. The servers were friendly and efficient. Overall, definitely worth a visit if you're just looking for that retro restaurant feel or if you're a Big Boy aficionado. read more

We decided to eat here today for lunch and it was completely disappointing. If you have childhood memories of this restaurant from the 70's just keep those and don't ruin it by dining here now. Service was terrible. The only way to get anything was to hold your hand in the air and flag someone down. They advertised fresh never frozen burgers, not true. Buns were stale. Onion rings advertised as hand breaded, again not true. Mozzarella sticks were greasy and not very good. Went with a friend for the Friday Night Seafood buffet, which is advertised on the website, and there was even a sign on the entry door advertising it. BUT......no seafood buffet. According to the server, it was discontinued several weeks ago. I substituted the cod dinner. The cod pieces were significantly smaller than I had on a previous visit a few months back. The serving of onion rings was also smaller than on previous visits and were overcooked/stale. Our server had an interesting sense of humor. The young girl that took our order At drive through was a bit of an arrogant snob. The woman with the purple braid and the cook were really nice. The onion rings, fried and chicken strips were very plain, no salt or seasonings. The super big boy spicy wasn't real spicy, so if you want spice but not a lot of heat, you'll like this one. First, the bright spots: - The patty melt was heavenly, with several napkins needed due to the buttery toast - The house-breaded onion rings were delicious - The hot fudge cake was a perfect sensory mix of room temperature cake, cold ice cream, and hot fudge - The service was excellent, with one employee actually running outside to stop our child from stepping onto the curb when I ran back inside to grab something (explanation below) - It was very inexpensive, just over $40 for three adults, one child, and one shared dessert - They have an Impossible version of their Big Boy, so now even vegetarians can eat unhealthy crap, lol Now the cons: - I'm pretty sure this place hasn't been updated, painted, or had a good scrubbing in a LONG time; outdoor decals were peeling, paint looked old, carpets looked grungy, etc. - So many things were really dirty; the salt shakers were sticky and had visible dirt on them, the front counter was dirty, the bathrooms were...something. It seems like staff probably does a surface "clean" but it hasn't had a deep clean that periodically needs to happen when you have an open-window kitchen and a lot of fried foods. - The fries were so oversalted that they were barely edible. If we weren't so hungry, they were bad enough that we would have sent them back. Instead, we just kind of rubbed the salt off or ate them with our other stuff that wasn't as salty. - The layout of the drive-thru. There was no line when we walked in, so we were IN THE PATH of the drive-thru before we realized it as we walked from the parking lot to the restaurant. There is one small sign, but it's not close to the entrance. For safety, they really need brightly painted lines and much more visible signage. That was the reason the AMAZING server ran out to grab our kid - she was very likely about to walk right into the drive-thru lane. read more

We have no complaints about the quality of the food. The fish sandwich was fresh, hot and tasty. Fries were crisp. I rarely come to Yelp or any other food service app to complain... but today's service warrants me to speak out. Our server Joni, stated she had worked at the restaurant for 19 years...but we honestly are quite surprised, as she was downright abrasive and condescending to all members of our family. There are too many restaurants who serve their customers with kindness and respect to ever suggest returning to Frisch's Big Boy in Anderson... for fear we'd get seated in Joni's section again. She may have worked there many years, but she left us feeling uncomfortable and that she didn't like us or her job. A smile goes a long way, as does being nice. Stopped here for lunch earlier today, and I'm so glad I did. I was pleasantly greeted, seated immediately and had a friendly, attentive (but not overbearing) server. My order came out in under 10 minutes, and was excellent. I had the Farmboy and onion rings. The former was hot and tasty, the latter were some of the best onion rings I've ever had, light, crispy and flavorful. Their food has potential but I don't know what is happening!? The fries are soggy, the tatertots too. If not soggy, overdone. I always order a Bacon Cheeseburger, pickle only, but always receive a Cheeseburger, sometimes with or without bacon, with everything on it. My SO recently tried the fish and unfortunately, it too was soggy. Thinking they may need to change the grease? In the past, the buffet days, the weekend breakfast spread would sometimes be really good quality. Was usually a hit or miss, ya never knew! The waitresses are great. We had an absolutely wonderful day my wife the gorgeous AnnaAnna! We went over looked at the breakfast bar decided "yes" it would be worthwhile having that said testing spread, everything was fresh it's steaming hot they had every handmade biscuits end it every kind of sausage you could think of! they had beautiful soft scrambled eggs as well as pancakes bacon grits do you name it they had it they also had said test dick light or maybe say continental breakfast types of foods as Vanway for Swedish she prefers to have yogurt! and fruirás her breakfast meal. Dang... I had my mouth all set to eat some great food! I'm very, very disappointed in the quality of the food here! I had fond memories of the nice and juicy Big Boy sandwich with the delicious famous tartar sauce and scrumptious hand dipped onion rings! Instead, I received a burger that the meat was so paper thin that you could almost see thru it, a poor quality bun that that disintegrated in my hand AND it overwhelmed the 2 thin layers of meat, a thin spread of what looked like mayo and not the special tartar sauce and wilted lettuce with brown edges! WTH? The onion rings were pretty bad, too! Clearly they were some cheap frozen onion rings that had a corn mill texture to them and over cooked! My husband had one of the salads and he said it tasted like dishwater! The salad bar/buffet table was is disarray with food all over the sides of their trays... looked like a food fight happened there! Just awful! Even the waitress had to admit the quality had gone down over the years she'd there and apologized! That was the only saving grace keeping me from literally going off in there! I will truly never go to Frisch's again! And I made a special trip to Anderson from Indianapolis, just to go there and usually take extra Big Boys home! Nope, NOT this time!!! I haven't been here for 45 years since moving away and it's the same place which is great! The Big Boy sandwich tasted exactly as I remembered it which is great. I always remembered it fondly, so excellent! There is no need to change anything. The meal was hot when it arrived and the service was spectacular. I remember eating here perhaps well over twenty years ago. My family and I decided to give them another shot... and we quickly learned that was a mistake. For starters, our waitress wasn't pleasant at all, not to mention she had a no-nonsense, "Just hurry up and decide" vibe to her. Getting refills in our drinks was near impossible because she hardly ever stopped by our table. She made us wait a good ten-to-fifteen minutes just to take our order, and we waited another twenty-to-thirty just to get our food... and once we finally got it, it wasn't worth it in the slightest. My buffalo chicken was nasty, but my fries were at least decent. My aunt's hamburger was alright, but her fries were burnt. My mother's hamburger was raw in the middle, not to mention her onion rings were also burnt and barely breaded in spots (someone near us also ordered onion rings, and we noticed they didn't eat them, either... tells us all we need to know). Probably one of the worst meals we've had in a long time. One other thing I feel the need to mention; while the service was poor, I was especially amazed at their lack of attention when it came to cleaning off tables after customers left. I seen food just sitting there for at least a half hour... and when we finally got up to leave, they still hadn't been cleaned up! There was even one table with a tip just out in the open... nobody to claim it because all the employees kept ignoring their duties. Do the waitresses even care? Breakfast bar Sunday morning. Let me list in order as I ate items. Coffee good. Bacon had black carbon spots all over it. I've never seen bacon served like this in thousands of meals. Eggs? Are they? Looked like over cooked plastic egg substitutes. Tasted terrible. Pancakes and French toast old and cold. Grits were lumpy and thick. Shredded watermelon, flies and more flies let in by constant group of smokers at the back door. It's amazing to me that old food like that is ok with people. Hash browns terrible and dry, biscuits and gravy a 1 out of 10 no taste. On the other hand the water was excellent even though the waitress could only see to fill my glass once at the beginning. This place sucks as the worst breakfast I've ever had. If you like mystery sausage and cold food this place is for you. Don't waste your money here. The only thing good about this non-maintained paint chipping dump is the statue of the fat kid out front. Is they can't paint and clean they sure can't cook! It was the hottest day in September since sometime back in the 1950's according the WTHR-TV. The temperature gauged topped out at 98 F. The Mrs. and I decided to eat out and ended up at Frisch's. The restaurant was busy but clean. The waitresses were friendly and older, making me feel like i was getting served by my mother. The iced tea was kept full. The salad bar was well stocked. I have eaten the buffet in the past and it was terrible. The food was dried out from the warmers and tasted really bad. I haven't been back till last month when we stopped for lunch. I looked at the soup/salad/desert bar and was really surprised. Everything looked really fresh so I gave it a try. It was really good! There was a homemade Mexican soup that was surprisingly was tasty and their was a layered desert in a cup that was to die for! The variety of food wasn't large but what the had on the bar was tasty.
