We ordered two medio (medium-sized) gelato, 2 scoops each, dipped in chocolate, on cones. I'm pretty sure I got coco (coconut) and cioccolato (chocolate) and Garrett got the pistachio (pistacchio) and chocolate. One of the many great gelato spots in Rome! My family and I had gotten dinner nearby when we discovered this popular spot. I opted for the Frigidarium and Limone flavors, dipped in chocolate. Frigidarium was very sweet and rich, I'm glad I chose something tart to accompany it and would recommend doing the same. I liked the gelato, but wasn't a fan of the dipping in chocolate; once the shell dried hard, the gelato became quite messy and difficult to eat. Other yelpers have mentioned the service and in hindsight I did think it was a bit rushed and blunt, but I can understand the need for efficiency because they were extremely busy when we went. Wow I still miss this gelato! It's the best value I've gotten out of Rome; for €2 you can get two scoops on a cone with the option to get your scoop dipped in chocolate! I got the Malaga (rum raisin) and Frigidarium flavor (that comes with a cookie on top). Holy cow the Malaga is really good. It's like the tart flavor of a sultana was muted and made creamier and richer with a vanilla essence. I'm not entirely sure what was in the Frigidarium, but it tasted like a mix of ginger bread and caramel with some hard, crunchy bits of light...sugar bites (?) inside. So so good. We ate gelato LITERALLY every night of our trip to Italy, and this was one of my favorite places. Having the mindset of "go big or go home" (and definitely not wanting to go home), I opted for 3 scoops, in a cone, chocolate dipped. With a wafer cookie on top! Flavors I chose: - Frigidarium: I'm not sure exactly what this flavor was (maybe caramel?), but it was fantastic! Also had little crunchy cookie bits mixed throughout. - Raspberry: When getting two rich flavors, I always try to level it out with a nice, refreshing fruity flavor. In hindsight, I should have asked for a cup with my chocolate dipped gelato. The chocolate coating acts like an umbrella and when the gelato starts melting it drips E V E R Y W H E R E! I've had gelato all over Italy as well and have some some memorable experiences. But Frigidarium? Yep. Best ever. BEST. Even their sign proclaims them as "masters of gelato in Rome". I have to agree. Hard to explain why until you taste it. I've seen more ambitious flavors, more creativity, more combinations, and bigger selections elsewhere. I didn't recognize the flavors by name or by sight so I ordered the "Frigidarium" (which has some kind of little crunchy bits that amazingly don't get soggy even after the ice cream starts melting) and one other flavor, both of which turned out to be great. First you pick your size of cone or cup. Just gesture at it, don't pick up the cup. For the medium sized cups you pick two flavors. After they scoop your flavors, they'll ask if you want it dunked in chocolate. The chocolate dunk hardens up like "Magic Shell". I picked dark chocolate. They stuck a cookie in mine before the dip. Prices are very reasonable (3 Euro for the medium). There was a small line (3-5 people) but it was a Monday night. I suspect they get more crowded on the weekends. I passed many other ice cream places on my walk there and none had a line, which I think says something. read more

When in Rome, indulge. How I often dream of Frigidarium: this is my favorite gelatria in Rome but be prepared to queue especially during the hot summer months. When in Italy, my go to gelato flavor is pistachio but I kept going back for more of the orange dark chocolate and pistachio gelato. This combination was amazing. Their eponymous specialty flavor called "Frigidarium" is good and comes with a round chocolate cookie with frosted little stars. Simply an awesome find in Rome. At only 2 euros, its a steal and the ice cream is really good. The tiramisu had a tiny bit of alcohol taste, very authentic. They don't give cheapskate cones. The pistachio has some saltiness in it which makes it less unforgettable in a cold weather. The only thing I would throw out there as advice is that the timings posted online may not always be accurate; we walked over to the shop once in the evening as the website said it was open only to find that it was closed.
