This Friendly's is solid, folks. Stopped by here after a scintillating morning at the DMV with a good friend. We enjoyed a nosh and some coffee and had fine service. Honestly, it's Friendly's. You know what to expect here. But this particular location is very clean, and very efficient. I think it's a cut above some of the others I've visited over the years. We came here for lunch yesterday. We were a party of four. Seven mistakes that were made. Yes 7! 1. It was not busy but we waited to be seated as 3 staff passed by without acknowledging us until finally someone sat us. 2. No lemon in 3 of our iced teas which is the way it was ordered. We had to ask and it took a while. 3. No cheese on two of our orders of LOADED waffle fries. They came plain. My son waited for the cheese until the rest of us were almost finished. He ordered the fries loaded and wanted to eat them loaded. Who can blame a kid?! It took forever for the waitress to bring two cups of velveeta. 4. We were charged wrongly for the food. My sister was charged $9.99 plus .99 for the bacon on the BLT salad. The B stands for BACON AND THE SALAD WAS ON THE LUNCH SPECIAL PAGE ON THE BACK LISTED FOR $5.99!! 5. Her salad was missing TOMATOES. THE T STANDS FOR TOMATO! 6. I was charged $9.99 for my Turkey supermelt when IT WAS ON THE LUNCH SPECIAL PAGE LISTED FOR $5.99! 7. After correcting the overcharges the .99 bacon charge remained and NO APOLOGY WAS MADE. For some reason we still tipped 15% but we usually tip 25% to 30% or more if the service is decent but... I hadn't been to a friedlys in more than a decade, but it was next to the movie theater so i figured I'd give it a shot. The food was shocking. I got the bbq burger and there was so much grease the bun was soaked when it hit the table. The beef tasted old and had a oddly soft texture, the bacon tasted of nothing but grease. The fries where under cooked and only tasted of old oil. The staff was short handed in the dinning room so i never got a single refill for my coke. This was substantialy worse than McDonald's or Arby's at more than twice the price. I would actually rate the burger worse the the frozen microwave white castle hamburgers from the supermarket. read more

Impressed. Newly remodeled, Red & Grey color scheme with all new booths, tables, carpeting and just a fresh brighter, clean feel now. Much more modernized. I used to dine here frequently but my schedule hasn't allowed it. Came back and was surprised of the new design inside. I ordered breakfast this late morning, hey it's 50% off M-F. Staff is "friendly", and food came quickly, what I ordered. Friendly's has been around for decades I'm sure you've been to one and expect this isn't a 5 diamond restaurant. I ran in last night to grab a small dish of ice cream...simple- two scoops of strawberry. It took maybe about 10 minutes before the girl working even acknowledged us or helped. I have to say it smelled a little inside and they should really put a door up so that customers don't see the serving station. It definitely was not appetizing or sanitary looking. The girl working the front register was very slow and she often checked her phone...before even helping us. There was another girl talking about her personal life and boys....something a customer should not hear - save that for an offline conversation. read more

Literally EVERY time I come to this one I stand in the waiting area for 5 plus minutes before I'm even greeted no matter how many people see me standing there. There will be employees that clearly see you but never smile or greet you. On top of that there's always a group of managers sitting at a table in the back eating ice cream and chatting. This was ridiculous I am so mad and I need to voice this. We get there at 8:30 Am. We wait to be seated there is probably one customer already sat. Me and my mom are talking waiting. Getting increasingly more annoyed bc it shouldn't be taking this long to be sat. We can hear all the waitresses talking in the back. One lady pops her head out and says, "I'll be right with you" like wtf? There's no one here just sit us. So we wait another 5 minutes and we're still standing there so we left. Friendly's has enough problems - falling revenues, closing stores, substandard menu, so-so quality food, and non-competitive prices - without having to deal with immature and irresponsible staff. I've had multiple experiences at the Plainville, CT location that left me wondering why I bothered stopping in. Improperly made sundaes (multiple times in one visit) and bad experiences with the staff have basically made me uninterested in returning. It's one thing to not want to work and to give your customer the sense that having to do your job is an annoyance (I'm sorry that you have to actually WAIT on me). It's another thing entirely to put your primary focus on cavorting with your co-workers (even when at least one of them asks if you're supposed to be helping customers and you respond with "don't worry about it", Christian) and to demonstrate NO regard for the families with small children while you laugh and joke, yelling things like "F*** yeah" from the back. I'd love to see the whole lot of the staff working in food prep on May 20, 2017 (around 7PM) at least reprimanded if not fired. And when this store closes because of a continuing drop in sales, the whole lot will be out of a job and you can all thank these "children". read more

Horrible service...STILL. So unfortunate as we are local and wanted to give it a chance after their renovation. This Friendly's doesn't have a review yet? That seems unfair... because THIS is the good Friendly's, especially for breakfast. Their food is hot, seasoned well, and it makes its way out to you quickly. The servers are also pretty attentive without being overly so. I've had them for dinner, and I also find them to be good. Just not as outstanding as they are for breakfast. I recommend eating here. read more

I ended up applying to Friendly's and the manager is a very rude and very disrespectful. He likes to mansplain. He's very rude...he cuts people off. He said plainly on the phone that he does not follow the state of Connecticut law's. Soooooo he's kind of admitting he don't follow COVID guidelines. I am 15 about to turn 16 in July.He blew me off for the first initial interview on may 28 at 3:30 .The day prior on the 27th. I called to make sure my application went through and he offered me a interview right then and there. So I showed up 5 mins early. I went up to the desk and the nice waiter told me to hold on so she can go see where he is. He told them to tell me that he had another "emergency" at another Friendly's. I knew it was a lie so I brushed it off and they told me to come in the next day may 29 at 3:30. So I called on may 29 to make sure that I still had the interview. He told me there was something wrong with my application which there was not anything wrong with it. I said alright do you need me to fix it. He said no what's your age I said I'm 15 about to turn 16. He asked me when I turn 16 but he said it in a weird way.I told him in July and he said ok then would you be interested if you are you need working papers. If y'all know anything about laws in Connecticut it states at the age of 16 you are legal to work. So working papers are for young adults that are under the age of 16. He told me that they don't follow "state of State of Connecticut laws" they follow what friendlys says.So right there this dude is asking for a lawsuit. Not to mention I've live in this town my whole life but once this dude became a manager the staff became lazy. The restaurant became unsanitary. They became rude and disrespectful. It's just overall not a good place and it needs to be shut down. If I could give it 0 stars then I would. read more

Had a craving for a fribble today so considering it was 96 out I decided to go to friendlys. I went and was greeted by a super nice lady behind the counter who greeted me and took my order for a peanut butter fudge fribble. I got the fribble and it was not good at all I remember them being super thick and creamy like a good shake is suppose to be but what I got was no fribble. It was like milk with a few scoops of ice and 1 scoop of ice cream, it was extremely watery. I kept the fribble because I'm not one really to complain at a restaurant especially when the waitress was very kind and nice but there's was deffinitly a quality control issue. I'm gonna guess maybe she didn't know how to make a fribble or just didn't use enough of what was suppose to be in it. Overall 2 stars for a really bad milkshake but really good customer service. read more

Terrible day at Friendly's. First I waited forever before being waited on...had to go to the kitchen to see if and when I was going to be waited on. Finally someone came over and took my order....people that came in after I did got waited on before me. I had to get up again and see how much longer it was going to be before I got my food...the lady rudely told me it might be awhile since they only had one cook. No one mentioned that beforehand. The lady in the next booth had some trouble with the kiosk paying her bill...no one came to assist her. We both decided that there would be no tip left. When I finally did get my meal, it was wrong...needless to say I left without eating. I also warned people going in that maybe they should think twice. I did ask to see the mgr., and they said it would be a while before he could come over. Usually that particular Friendly's is better than this. Nicely remodeled, but poor service. Took very long, and when a simple request for a water, no straws were provided, and it was a cup with a lid that required a straw! The food was not hot whatsoever, and I found my fries to be fairly cold. As for my burger, it tasted very bland except for a hint of almost a sour aftertaste. This was also cold too. I visit this location maybe once a year (their peanut butter cup sundae still being one of my all time fav's) but actually partook in this establishment twice this past week! The first time was for take out...got the grilled cheese...still feelin it after all these years and the peanut butter cup sundae....hubby got the clam boat and my daughter the chicken fingers. We all enjoyed our meals. The second visit was with my friend and our kids...got the chicken noodle soup which is always good (my daughter concurred) and the tomato mozzarella salad which was only ok...and a strawberry sundae which I split with my daughter...I asked for it to come with vanilla soft serve. she said that it would...it came with regular vanilla hard ice cream. I don't even think they sell soft serve anymore which equals= TOTAL EPIC FAIL..but it was still a good sundae. Service was slow, high chairs were filthy...but my daughter loved her grilled cheese and seemed to have fun...it is a good place to bring kids to. This place is cleaner than most Friendly locations, but that is not saying much. I will return again next year. read more

Waited several minutes to be seated even though it couldn't have been more than 20 percent full at 9:15 on a Saturday night. Brought to a filthy table and had to wait several minutes for a server who was rude and incompetent. Restrooms and floors of restaurant were litter with napkins and.... Food came promptly but was poor at best.. More cheese in quesadilla than tortilla making it a gooey mess. Bacon cheeseburger had no flavor.... buffalo strips cold and tasteless. Ice cream girl Amanda was absolutely amazing. She was so helpful, beautiful, and made the perfect ice creams. She was so friendly to my children. I can see why it's called Friendly's. We also ordered food, and we told our waitress that we wanted the mozzarella sticks that were on $5.55 menu. When we got our bill, we noticed that the waitress charged the appetizer for a larger portion which we did not order. That is not acceptable. Who wants to pay $8 for a little plate of fried cheese. When we went to pay the bill, our waitress took forever to come out and we had to ask other waitresses to get her. What exactly were you doing? We are your customers. Was there yesterday - waited for 45 minutes before leaving in disgust. In that whole time there was no one at the front for 43 of those 45 minutes. 8 different groups left before we did. It was the most unbelievable spectacle at any restaurant I have ever witnessed. Had a horrible experience here. Waited 10 minutes for a table even though the restaurant was empty and there were plenty of waitresses. Once seated took 10 minutes for our waitress to even come over to our table. Once we ordered food came out fast. Took another 10 minutes to get plates, napkins and utensils. Once we finished our meal we sat again waiting for our waitress to come over to put in an ice cream order. We mentioned we wanted the ice cream to go (which in my opinion is code word for, we are looking to get out of here soon). We waited another 15 minutes, with no one checking in on us, asking if we needed anything- nothing. Thankfully we were able to pay the bill right at the table without having to wait for our waitress- that would have been another 15 minute wait. We finally got our ice cream and booked it out of there, very frustrated. Went to eat the ice cream in the car and it was a soupy mess- not surprisingly since i'm sure it was promptly made and waited on the counter for 15 minutes for our waitress to come back. We usually go to the Friendlys in North Haven but decided to drive north this time and try a new one. We will NEVER be back here. Service was absolutely horrible. I would totally understand if the place was busy, and I never write bad reviews, but given how much we paid for our meal I expected much better service. Went with a party of four, asked for a booster seat for my nephew, which was disgusting. When I asked to have it wiped down she returned with the same booster which she had only pretended to wipe off. Danielle our waitress came to the table with a completely expressionless face and what came across as a bad attitude. The restaurant employees all looked greasy and like they had just rolled out of bed, the tables were all dirty (like no one ever hear of pre-bussing). People around me were sitting for over 10 minutes to be greeted by a waitress, and when they finally were, there was no mention of apology or kind expression. As a waitress myself I take pride in my service and performance, it's my livelihood...all I can say is that I was basically twitching from watching these people do their "job". On top of all that there was some guy who was repairing a booth in the middle of a lunch rush with power tools. To say it was loud and distracting is an understatement. Just completely unprofessional...almost expected someone to procure a pig for some hog wrestling. Never going back.
