This my favorite restaurant! The service is great with very friendly workers and great food. I often get the Mac and cheese and it is almost always very good, the cooks there do good. Food was not good. I ordered an All American burger and it did not come with cheese not did they ask if i wanted cheese as an up sell I would have said yes. My father ordered a chicken quesadilla and there was nothing in it and he had to send it back. The fries were ice cold and I mean cold I could not eat them. The soup that was ordered was half full and was a full serving according to them. The place itself looks older and dated so it really wasn't a pleasant experience. Overall it was an epic fail. Just go to Miss Johnstown Diner..... this place sucks. They take absolutely forever like at least 30+ minutes for a burger and fries. Food is great !! Seating is a bit close together but hey, what are you gonna do. Walked in for lunch, first ignored then seated. While waiting noticed how absolutely filthy the hvac ducts were in the dining room. Decided to be seated anyhow. After a few minutes someone came from the restroom and another guest asked how the bathroom was and it was not good with mention of a broken toilet. Basically if you find yourself in Johnstown, NY...there is not a heck of a lot to do, see or of places to eat. We stayed there during the Baseball Hall of Fame weekend, and it's about an hour NORTH of the fairgrounds and museum. We basically slept and ate there for two nights. The very first night we stayed there, we checked in late and there were literally TWO restaurants in town, Applebees and Friendlys. We were going to get snacks at a convenience store, but it was seriously the worst convenience store on planet EARTH. It was across the street from Friendly's. So we went there. Though they were closing in an hour, they opened the kitchen for us and made our food. They were very nice to us. I always feel bad about doing that, but we were very tired and told them we had been traveling most of the day. It's a Friendly's. Not the gourmet of restaurants but it served it's purpose and grilled cheese for all makes me a happy girl. read more

I highly do not recommend this location. I went in with my sister and was completely disregarded for and waited about 5 minutes to be seated and then sat there for about 15 minutes waiting to be waited on. The waitress was really rude and then someone else came in after us and was seated right away and was waited on within 2 minutes of them sitting down. We were asked about drinks and then the other people that came in after us and got their drinks but yet we still waited for our drinks. We decided to just walk out because we were literally being set aside by the waitress and not helped how fast they were helping someone else who came in after us. When we walked in to this Friendlys, the place was trashed!!! Severely under staffed for a Saturday night! Our server Stephanie was so so helpful, kind and had such a charisma about her! She took the time to help is decide on entrees, knew the menu and actually engaged in conversation with us. She was running around like a crazy girl trying to clean up the half dozen tables that were left uncleared. Where was the bus person on such a busy evening??? She did so well with her duties with such swiftness, ease and took pride in her job and still managed to treat us like we guests in her home. Well done Stephanie! I've been serving for 16 years and am now a chef in lower NY...and I would be proud to have her on my team!!!!! The food was what was expected from a chain restaurant. read more

Oh boy, my nephew really wanted to go to Friendly's last night when he heard that they had re-opened. I wish I had talked him out of that or that once we walked in and the strong odor of urine smacked us in the face I convinced him to leave. But nope, we sat through our lukewarm dinner wishing we had nose plugs. I thought that the article in the paper said there was a cleaning crew in the restaurant for several days?? Well...it smelled worse than I have ever experienced it...and do not recommend eating there. I agree with Heather S - growing up around here almost guaranteed that you were going to spend a good bit of time at Friendly's like it or not. Lots of nostalgia and fond memories here. Lots of chilling with friends when there was no where else open. As an adult I probably would hate myself if I dined in there. But growing up I really enjoyed the food there. When I was a child I decided to check and see just how allergic to ice cream I was. I found out. I had a Jim Dandy - which is like a half gallon of ice cream covered in hot fudge, caramel, chocolate syrup, m&m's, etc.... I was out of school for two weeks. Oh Friendly's, you've had me since the Cone Head Sundaes that used to come with my dinners when I was eight. If you've grown up in the area, you know that this location has been here for more than 25 years and, in that time, has come to be as venerated as many homegrown establishments. Of course, since that time, the company has fallen on some tough times, but given that this location remained open says to me that they must be doing something right. Though it can take a while to get your food after you order, servers here do fit the name of the place and the food, standard grill and fryer fare, makes the grade. The real stand out of your meal, though, is the ice cream, which is also sold at Price Chopper and other area supermarkets. read more

So I'm not going to comment about the ice cream as it's a chain and it met my expectations as it always does, but the service at this location was wonderful. Our group of friends came in late after being at cooperstown all day in the sun during hall of fame weekend. We were goofy, a bit delirious, and indecisive. Our server held her own, was funny, matched our energy and willing to please. She was younger and, after working in the service industry myself, I didn't expect this level of attentive and caring service at all. Shame on me for stereotyping and judging the book by the cover. I can't remember your name, but you blew my mind when you told me the sundae I wanted could be turned into a fribble. I chose to take my family to your establishment on 4/02/11.There were 4 adults and 1 child.The food was good and the prices on the entrees & ice cream are fair,but my boyfriend ordered coleslaw as an extra to his entree.His portion of the coleslaw was less than a ice cream scoop full and the charge was $2.99.I was stunned when i recieved the bill,but paid the check without saying anything. I may choose your establishment to dine at in the future,but will ask to know what the portions of an additional costly item is before it is ordered.I imagine many patrons will do the same once they are aware of the price and skimpyness of such items. read more

This was easily some of the worst service I've ever had. The only reason this restaurant is still open is that the surrounding populous is addicted to the sugars that invade every one of their dishes and drinks. The server never asked about any of our meals or experiences. The food took over 30 minutes and it came out cold and wrong. The place is filthy. Bad service. I ordered a burger with no mayo, it came out slathered in it. I sent it back, 2 minutes later it came back out, you could see where they just wiped it off, still had mayo on it, waitress didnt see the problem with that, didnt even offer to make another one.
