A fantastic, homemade banana shake, and a very nice cheeseburger
    Joe M.

This place was such a fantastic find! Homemade ice cream! Where do you find that anymore? The banana shake was absolutely wonderful and I enjoyed every second of it. The cheeseburger was nice but the next time I go, it will be definitely a banana split. The people were very very friendly here. It's the kind of place you feel good about going too.

What a great find! Drove to Amsterdam with Hubbie for some shopping and since we are not comfortable yet with indoor dining we decided to give this cute little place a try. Clean picnic tables under shady trees was very inviting. Our server was so warm and friendly. Provided us with menus and full service even though she was running back and forth from the restaurant to the outdoor area. We both chose burgers off the impressively varied menu. Mine was Ale & Onion with a yummy mustard sauce. I also had the mac salad that was recommended by the server. It was definitely as good as she said. Hubbie had a deluxe burger with peppered bacon and a bacon aioli. Both were on lovely brioche buns. Everything was so good including the chocolate malt shake that we shared. A great place for a great meal. Highly recommended!

Good food with good price. Recommended by my coworker. This place has been here for a long time.

    Ice cream flights!

Cash only and seat yourself (so ya don't look silly standing in the doorway to be seated)!! The food is ok. It's a mom and pop, "Drive In" style and quality. The fries are good, the chips are good, the burgers are ok. The chicken burger is a (I think) just a regular old frozen, breaded patty cooked on the grill. Dinner baskets are $8-$10ea (-ish). Three dinners, drinks, deserts, and a milkshake was about $60. The servers are great! The piece de resistance of the whole place is their ice cream, though!!! They serve flights of ice cream! Don't know what flavor you want? Try 3 different flavors! 3 flavors isn't enough?!? Try the 4 flavor flight! A really great idea!

The outside was soft, but the inside wasn't as fluffy as it looked. It was a little too bready compared to standard French toast. Normally, I see French toast as a soft fluffy type of bread. This wasn't that. My partner said it was OK though! But he did say it didn't taste like French toast that we expected. Nonetheless, the shrimp and grits was great, and my partner loved it a lot! The service was OK, but after we ate, we waited about 30 minutes to get our check. They took our dishes and we asked for a check, but we still had to wait 20 minutes after which was a little agitating. We actually had to go up to the front and tell them "hey we asked for a check can we get the check now", is was an experience. I understand it was a weekend and the restaurant was half full. But we did ask for a check and we have nothing on our tables, it took as long as it took to get the food to just to get the check.

The main feature is locally sourced fresh ingredients prepared in an unusual way. I loved the crispy soy/maple salmon on a bed of hash consisting of brussel sprouts, potatoes and celery root puree. My wife Statler chicken was crisp and juicy. But you can also get incredible looking sandwiches. My eyes locked onto the cod reuben. How unusual, yet easy to understand. Entrees stay in the mid 30s, so don't expect a cheap night if you add an appetizer, wine and dessert. (Btw, ask to tour the wine closet). However, farm fresh food is worth it to me. The room is good looking and comfortable. It is a little noisy with all the happy people, but not too bad at all. I will be back. And I will bring my picky friends visiting from New York.

Seeing the hells kitchen uniform I truly thought the chef might know a thing or two. Since we came to celebrate a birthday and we brought a cake. Knowing there could be an extra charge, we asked the wait staff. They informed us there would not be. After ordering our food, we proceeded to wait 1 hour and a half for our food. During this time, our waitress did not come to update us about the food until one of our table went to ask her. However, other wait staff went up to other tables to apologize for the delay. One even explained that they were short staffed. When our food finally came out, the clam chowder was salty, the clams cold. Much of the food was underseasoned if seasoned at all. When they brought out the cake we decided we wanted to leave as soon as possible and packed the cake up. One of our table went to a waitress to discuss our terrible service and ask for them to do something. The waitress turned out to be the manager. When we explained our issue was that our wait staff ignored our table and that the food we received was cold and underseasoned she said "its not their fault." As though it is not a restaurant. She conceeded and said she would take our bill and talk to the owner. We returned to our table and after she spoke to the owner, she came back and said they could not do anything. When we tried to explain our side again the owner came out of the kitchen and threatened us. He said that they were already kind because we brought a cake and they did not charge us (even though we asked in the begining, knowing there could be a charge and were willing to pay). We never said we would not pay the bill but he continued to say if we did not pay the bill he would call the cops. I would like to take this moment to clarify that in this establishment we were THE ONLY people of color present. Threatening to call the police while we asked for a show of grace after the awful experience we had is grossly over exaggerated and thoroughly racist. I truly feared that this man would attack us with how loud he shouted and how quickly he jumped to threats. Our waitress ignored us, our food was cold, the owner of the establishment threatened us for complaining about the treatement. This is truly abhorrent behavior. To threaten to call the police because someone said your food was bad and you wanted a discount just shows this establishment is not one that cares for their customer or the food they provide and this racist establishment does not deserve any business. If I could, I would have rated this a 0 but unfortunately Yelp does not give me that option.

It was the perfect setting for a memorable holiday dinner. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with friendly, attentive service from our server, Jamie. The ambiance was warm, inviting, and rich with history, making us feel like we had stepped back in time. We started with an Old Fashioned made with Smugglers' Notch bourbon for me and a refreshing Blueberry Refresher for my wife. The homemade cranberry fritters served with Vermont maple butter were an outstanding way to begin the meal. Next came bowls of the delicious Cheddar & Ale Onion Soup, followed by the Maple Butter & Walnut Encrusted Brie served with Vermont apples and toasted baguette--an excellent combination of sweet, savory, and crunchy flavors. Our entrees were preceded by fresh field greens salads with balsamic vinaigrette and blue cheese crumbles, along with warm, freshly baked bread. I thoroughly enjoyed the Traditional Pot Roast--tender brisket slow-cooked in the tavern's Circa 1790 Amber Ale with rich pan gravy. My wife chose the Scrod with pumpkin seeds, butter, Chardonnay, and lemon, which was perfectly prepared and beautifully balanced. To finish, we shared the Cranberry & Apple Crisp topped with local vanilla ice cream and whipped cream--a fittingly New England ending to an exceptional meal. The combination of outstanding food, welcoming hospitality, and the unique historic atmosphere made for a wonderful dining experience. If you're visiting Manchester, Ye Olde Tavern is well worth a visit, especially if you're looking to enjoy classic Vermont cuisine in one of the state's most historic settings.

My husband was delighted that his Bloody Mary did not include any olives (lol). However, $18 is steep for tomato juice, folks. We shared the Brussel Sprouts as a Starter. Both of us ordered the Crab and Scallop Cake Benny which was topped with hollandais, served on a bed of arugula and accompanied by tasty potatoes. Absolutely delicious! Our server was very nice. It was crispy and well-executed, and the beurre blanc was silky and rich. I think it would have been even better with spaetzle, but the portion size was generous on its own--I'm just a starch girlie. My husband ordered the bolognese, which was flavorful and came in a healthy portion. He ended up taking some home, which we love because leftovers are never a bad thing. For dessert, we shared the pot de crème. The balance of caramel, saltiness, and chocolate was the perfect finish. The chocolate was rich and smooth. I also loved the décor--it was such a pleasant surprise to find a place like this in South Glens Falls.
