You went to this place for the ice cream, and food was always an afterthought, but you always got both. Another reviewer nailed it--you bought the tradition of the place and it's sad that a burger that is twice as expensive as others I had bought there tastes WORSE. The ice cream is no longer made there and they are moving away from everything Cappies was. If you are looking to visit this place and expecting to experience it how it was, do not go. They want to be a village diner now, not a drive-in. I understand that with new owners we should expect change but with change (and the prices) you'd think it would at least be good food. The burger had been gross and overpriced.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, Dave's Hot Chicken lives up to the hype…read more Over the weekend, I stopped in at the new Dave's Hot Chicken in Amsterdam, which is located in the former Moe's Southwest Grill space at Amsterdam Commons. I spotted several Dave's Hot Chicken "Now Open" lawn signs near Amsterdam HS. As expected, there was a long line from the door to the registers. I ordered my favorite #2 Combo, 2 Sliders (Medium spiciness) & Fries ($14.99 plus tax) and a side of Mac & Cheese ($3.79 plus tax). They call your number when your order is ready. It took 15 minutes after ordering for my order to be packed and ready. The sliders had very crisp thick chicken tenders, slaw, pickles & orange sauce on soft buns were very good. The chicken tenders were crispy outside which had a sweet flavor, then medium hot taste! The crinkle cut fries were golden fried and firm. Dill pickle chips and tangy orange dipping sauce was included with the box of food. The Mac & Cheese had soft macaroni and orange cheese sauce, which I dipped the crinkle cut fries into for cheese fries. This place lived up to the hype IMO. I would recommend this place if you love to eat spicy hot chicken and fries. Still crossing my fingers, as they expand and open more locations including in Portsmouth NH, hopefully more in NH in the near future.

Dave's Hot Chicken has some really good qualities, but my experience was a mix of highs and lows…read more The chicken was crispy and the seasoning had great flavor, and I liked having different spice levels to choose from. The fries were well seasoned, and the staff was friendly. However, my chicken was a little dry, and the wait was longer than I expected. Overall, the food was good and I can see why it's popular, but I think there's room for improvement. I'd still come back and give it another try.
