My friend and I went to Amsterdam Diner for lunch this week. We found the menu very typical for a diner. The restaurant was very clean, staff were very friendly and overall a great experience! Used to go here a lot with my elderly neighbor. Have not gone in years as the food is horribly bland and unappetizing.

I love a good diner and this was it. It has many tables and booths so seating is not a problem. It was busy, but the staff were attentive and friendly. Our order was placed within a few minutes of sitting down. My husband loves a good breakfast no matter what time of day. The sausage links were delicious. They had a mild flavor not too spicy. I might sound like a hypocrite, since I keep coming back to this place, but that is mainly due to its decent breakfast, convenient location, and relatively fast/friendly service. However, for me this very large diner/mid-tier restaurant falls short by: 1). Lunch isn't as good as breakfast & is wildly Inconsistent; 2). If you ask to substitute ANYTHING, they annoyingly up-charge even when its way less costly than the standard accompaniment, e.g., Buffalo sauce instead of BBQ for the chicken fingers, or 50 cents for a thimble of hot sauce instead of sour cream and salsa on quesadilla. We live close by to this restaurant and visit often for breakfast or lunch. The diner is very clean, the food is always fresh and delicious, and the service is fast. We were looking for a quick and inexpensive restaurant to take approx 30 people out to breakfast after a Baptism. I went there with my family, and we possibly had the worst experience that I've ever had in my life. The food was not good at all because it was brought out almost an hour after we ordered it, so I'm sure it was sitting there for a while the waitress that we had was an older woman who did not seem to know exactly what she was doing so it ended up being where we got our orders in late we got our food late. Everything that could possibly go wrong with that situation. Did go wrong. And the problem that, we had the most with this is that when we spoke to the manager about it, the manager defended the Person stating that they couldn't help the fact that it was too long and that everything was fine and that we were the ones that were wrong. I'm sorry over an hour for your food and then getting it and having it being cold means that something is missing in the process. There's people that came in after us that sat down with other waitresses and got their food before us. We were a party of four and they were a party of eight and they got their food all of it before us and we're getting up to leave before we even got our food started. The place itself did not look bad it looked pretty clean. I was totally turned off by the service. It really made it so that I will never go back there again. Hated this diner 5 years ago. Went back begrudgingly a few months ago and things have certainly changed. The service is amazing fast. The food now has flavor. You can be in and out in under a half hour if you want. The serving sizes and value are on point. All in all, a really good place to grab breakfast. The only weird thing is that they use ketchup packs instead of a bottle on the table. Seems like a huge waste to have people go through 10 packs of ketchup for their omelet and has browns. Would certainly be easier for the customer with the bottle, but that's a super minor. read more

Despite many open booths, and a table in the corner, our server decided to sit us squarely at the one table situated in between the doors that separate the front and back dining rooms where foot traffic passes by. The food came out in about 5 minutes leaving one to wonder if it was pre- prepared. Toast was saturated with butter making it inedible, and was unevenly cooked, one piece not toasted and another piece burnt, omelette was kind of dry, but all in all, good enough grub for the price when you need to eat and run. read more

I have been here a few times over the years, futile giving it another chance. There is ALWAYS A PROBLEM when I go there. I imagine other people feel the same way but, they just don't want to 'cause problems'. I have had hockey puck burgers, disgusting chicken parm, utterly bland, tasteless breakfast. Which was my last attempt at letting them redeem themselves. This morning I got a 5a omelette with American cheese, mushrooms, peppers and onions. Two sides of breakfast link sausage. I specifically stated I do not want home fries or any other potato. The omelet was just fried egg matter with no flavor at all. The sausage was bland somewhat breakfast sausage tasting pork matter. The home fries, I did not want, were mush. I called to tell them that, I cannot eat this. I made it through 1/3 of it and I just can't do it. It's horrible. And the hostess said no one else complains and she doesn't know what my problem is. They don't give money back I guess. Scumbags. Horrible food. I threw the breakfast out in the woods. Update!!! We came here for breakfast and I have to say- the food was MUCH better than last time! My eggs were perfect, the pancakes were fluffy and delicious, the home fries just as crispy and tasty as I could hope for. Even my FIL raves about his steak and eggs. Used to be a lot better but it has really gone downhill and this was not a good experience. My wife ordered the spinach pie which is something she loves. It states on the menu it comes with soup AND greek salad, rice, and bread and butter. The waiter told us no we had to pick soup or salad. I asked for greek salad as it states on the menu. He acted like he was doing us a favor because it's normally a regular salad. Was getting annoyed at the attitude at this point but whatever. When the meal arrived the spinach pie and rice were beyond well done and by that I mean dried out. Some of the rice was crunchy and the spinach was hard in some places. We were in a hurry and the waiter had disappeared so she ate the edible parts. The bread and butter never arrived despite asking. Now onto my meal. I got a bagel with lox and some hash browns. I told the waiter I wanted the bagel visibly toasted and the hash browns very crispy all the way through. When it arrived the bagel was warmed up not toasted and the hash browns were cooked on the surface but completely raw underneath. When we finally got ahold of the waiter we told him we were not happy. Most of the food was uneaten but we had to go. We were told yeah it would not have been more cooked (as far as my hash browns) if we sent it back. At the register we complained to the woman who I think is an owner and she would not make any adjustment to the bill. No tip was left. We will not return. I understand these things can't be helped, but update info pages like yelp and/or Facebook. Kind of stink when you drive across town to your favorite diner and it's closed. On to the food. We can't get enough. The food comes out perfect every time we eat there. I'm not a huge menu jumper, but I have tried things here that are not on my comfort list and it's perfect every single time. Staff is more than polite and you can see the inner working of this place taking care of every task imaginable. Highly recommend this place. This was my first time eating there. We waited 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken. After that the waitress took our order. I ordered a cinnamon roll (grilled) and a oatmeal. I asked for brown sugar and was charged for it. Halfway into my oatmeal, I asked the waitress for more brown sugar. I took a bite of the cinnamon roll and it tasted like grilled onions! Yuck! My husband had soup and it want warm at all. She never brought me the brown sugar or drink refill. No longer a fan. Two people can't order waffles from the same table. They have one waffle iron and you have to wait for your friend to get her waffle and when she's done eating yours might come out by then. I've gotten the wrong order there. A friend recently got beef gravy on her pork dinner. When she complained they took it in wiped it off and put turkey gravy on it. She refused to eat the meal. So disappointed! Took my son and daughter for lunch. Son got chicken parm. It was a thin previously frozen breaded piece of cardboard. It was smothered with melted mozzarella. 90percent cheese/10percent some kind of chicken product. I ordered a burger with swiss. Medium. I was hoping for a big fat juicy burger. What I got was a very flat, over cooked, disgusting thing on a bun. One thing slice of cheese. No lettuce or tomato. Turns out I had to tell her I wanted lettuce and tomato. My daughter ordered a blt club with fries. Her fries we typical diner fries. Not bad. Her sandwich was average because most of the toast was burnt. Paid over $40. I would give this place more stars, but for their complete hostility to substitutions. I have some minor allergies, so I couldn't have the rolls, soup, or the carrots (vegetable of the day) that come as sides for the pork chops. To "substitute" broccoli for carrots they charged me $2.50 extra--according to the waiter the same price as if the broccoli were in addition to the carrots. The chops tasted fine but were tough. The broccoli was overlooked and a little mushy. Fries and salad were fine. Server was attentive. Solid diner food. Nothing out of this world but if you are after some yummy diner fare then this place does a good job. Hearty portion sizes at good prices. My chicken souvlaki was pretty good. Pita was good, chicken could have had a bit more flavor, and the tzatziki was good as well. Everyone else's food looked a bit better. Out with Hubby for a much needed date night and could not have gone out for a more impressive dinner!! He started with an amazing New England Clam Chowder while I enjoyed a generously sized garden salad with homemade Greek dressing that was totally to die for! Hubby (Vic) then enjoyed one of the freshest turkey club sandwiches and cut to order fries he has ever had! (And he's not an easy one to please! lol) I decided to order one of the daily specials (and am soo glad I did!!) I absolutely flipped over the shrimp and lobster ravioli (OMG)!!!!! ...... and did I mention the ravioli was ENTIRELY HOMEMADE!!! I have to say that there is something uplifting, yet oh-so-humbling about being presented with homemade pasta...especially in an AMAZING white butter and garlic, cream sauce and filled with fresh lobster??!!! So... Just as we were both enjoying the rest of our delicious, freshly brewed Iced teas, our server presented me with the last course of what was included with my "daily special" meal, a slice of their "absolutely to die for!!" cheesecake! Our server was so gracious and patient! She didn't bat an eye when Vic ordered a side order of mayo for his turkey club (lol), or when I asked to take my salad and desert home to enjoy tomorrow. We had a great lunch here. It's right on the highway and easy to spot. They were very welcoming to our large party, including kids. The menu was extensive with everything from soup/salad to sandwiches to liver and onions. The chicken tortilla soup was outstanding. Even if it was free, it's not worth your time. It's complete garbage and that's how my wife and were treated. I ordered the Greek omelet with hash browns and rye toast. What I got was not an omelet. It was over cooked scrambled eggs with a couple pieces of feta cheese mixed in. The hash browns were big cubed chunks of mealy dry potatoes. Believe it or not, they even screwed up the toast ( I didn't know that was possoble). It was very stale rye bread with what I assume was butter on it. I would have let the waitress know but she never came back to check on us or even give us the bill. I don't blame her, I'd be embarrassed to serve this crap to anyone let alone have the nerve to charge for it. We simply went to the cashier told her were we were seated and paid the bill. She didn't ask if everything was ok. She simple ran our card and didn't even make eye contact or thank us for coming in. It felt like we were annoying her for trying to pay our bill. Ok place to grab lunch. Nothing extreme...good or bad. Prices are good and the food is decent. Service is good. I've never really had a bad experience here with the wait staff. The place has gone through several ownerships and it kinda seems like the customer base has gone done with each turn of ownership. I've actually never had dinner here as most of my visits have been lunch meetings. I've gone here for breakfast with he fam occasionally as well. IMO, the breakfast here is hands down the way to go if your thinking of trying this place out. In the end, it's nothing to brag about but it's not a dump either. read more
