Found this adorable eatery thanks to my Yelp Family! Great food, service & aesthetics. Bright, clean & spacious spot. They also have an outdoor patio for dining. My hubby got the Horiatiki Salad with grilled chicken ($14) & Greek yogurt with honey & figs ($5). I got the traditional gyro ($8.99) & we tried the chilled watermelon soup, which we did not care for. I think it had fresh oregano in it, which I didn't like. The rest of the food was delicious & fresh. A bit pricey, but worth the quality & large portions. Their loukomades ($5.99 for 6) were amazing! You have to ask for them they no longer have them on the menu. Best rice pudding! Rich & creamy! Chris was very welcoming & friendly. By FAR the worst gyro I have ever had in my life. Don't know if they make uber eats orders bad on purpose but wow I'm stunned at the quality of food vs what is pictured. The gyro was dry and came with no tzatziki sauce on the side like I ordered. No dill, no nothing but a sad tomato and some sad beef - they even left the onions off mine but not my friend. Never again, we got no drinks we got cold fries we got nothing for the money. If you cant handle take out don't do it. read more

I really enjoyed this place for lunch. We found out about Freskos on Groupon. It's in a little bit of a strange location but I like that there's ample parking. Almost looks like a corporate area on the outside. It's super cute inside and nicely decorated, about 8 tables to eat at. You order at the counter and then bring your food to you or you can do take out. We got a gyro and a chicken souvlaki pita with some fries. The food was fresh and yummy. The girl at the counter was super friendly and answered any questions we had. This is a great little place for quick Greek bites. It's small, relatively family friendly, and best for lunch.

The $6 gyro Monday deal is amazing. The beef/lamb mixture is perfectly moist and the pita bread is a perfect pillow. The traditional lemon soup is a fan favorite in my home and ordered anytime someone is under the weather or simply craving the soup. Absolutely loved Freskos in Hamden CT. We stopped by on a Saturday for an early lunch. The place was super busy but our food came out fast. I loved that they had a tofu option for their gyros and so many options for those that don't eat red meat. I was so impressed by the freshness of the gyro and the lemon potato wedges. Clean, affordable, and eco-friendly (more or less). I love the place because it promotes eco-friendly eating for customers. For instance, paper straws instead of plastic straws! Also, I was able to bring in my own container and have them fill it with their smoothie blend. I'm happy that I'm able to be waste free here and still have a good time. The only thing is that they have plastic eating utensils and plastic containers to hold their salads - my suggestion? Cardboard take out containers and wood utensils! Nevertheless, I'm very excited and happy that their staff were able to share the same support towards being waste free. The cost for the salads, sandwiches, and pizzas are fairly affordable if not a little below average to everywhere else. I definitely recommend their salads with meat. It's 5.99 for the salad and then an additional $3 for meat. It's a little steep for the cost of a salad but definitely worth it! I got their mixed berry smoothie and it was about $6 for a 16 oz. We came across Freskos by way of a road trip enroute to Newport, RI. I will do almost anything for authentic and good Greek food, and Freskos totally fits the bill. I made the 40 minute trek from Bristol to Hamden to check out this place. A friend of mine suggested Freskos to me possibly about two years ago! it took me some time to get down there but, boy was it worth it. When I was told that this was the best gyro that you could get around here, he was not lying. I was impressed with this place all around. A lamb meat gyro, a salad and a side of tzatziki sauce with both chips (Chris's idea) and pita chips. The gyros were delicious and packed with meat. So good I decided to have a second one. The sauce was equipped with fresh ingredients and delicious house sauce and the tzatziki was flavorful but, not necessary to cover the gyro with. Prices up - Quality down Apparently the economy has taken its toll here. The excellent salad and gyro of Freskos' first years are no more. Once nicely marinated and grilled shrimp are replaced by flavorless boiled knots. The outstanding feta slices now subbed by tiny cubes buried in the greens. The new pita has an odd sweet taste and is too soft to hold a sandwich. The greens are fresh, but sometimes very wet. I had these, plus the veggie rolls which were ok but at $8.50, very overpriced. Overall, my last two Fresko meals were expensive and disappointing. I miss the old Fresko's. read more

I LOVE Freskos!!! My job loves them for catering too! The doctors I work with love them too!! They're top notch in flavor, quality and quantity. They're my go to when I want something light and fresh. I go at least twice a month for lunch and sometimes even for dinner. Management is excellent, exceptional service. I went for lunch a couple weeks ago, they were taking a tad bit long and without me saying a peep, the owner himself gave me my food and a gift card, he made it right without hesitation or me even saying a word. There don't seem to be many Greek restaurants in New Haven /Hamden area but if you can get to this one you don't really need to. It's a walk up counter kind of place and currently taking Covid precautions. The restaurant was cute looking with a strong Greek music, Greek words, and menu that shows nice selection. The food is priced well and felt it was worth what we paid. They were also having a sale on Greek iced tea which was tasty. We found staff was friendly and helpful. We purchased gyro, Greek fries and souvlaki. The gyro and souvlaki were absolutely delicious easily filling us up. The Greek fries had great toppings but to be honest the fries were not a good match for the seasonings but this was really the only hiccup. Freskos has updated their menu and now they have a few more vegetarian/vegan options. With all the fake meat options getting popular and replacing the actual vegetarian food options, it's very rare to get a good vegetarian burger now. This place now serves a Greek vegetarian burger that can be made vegan. It has become my favorite burger in town. They have also added Greek pizza (I am not a fan) and Green salad options. The 3 stars is mainly because every time I order the chicken souvlaki it's different. The last time I had a puny few bits of meat. For 8 bucks I was surprised it didn't come with a small salad or like 1 dolma it something. It was fine. But just fine. Service is always friendly and timely. Place is clean and convenient. I was debating over 3 or 4 stars because it's been pretty inconsistent. Just "meh". My first visit was a solid 4-5. But it's been falling flat.
