We came for the first time today, a Tuesday, at about 4 pm. Located in a small strip mall across Milwaukee from the Boise Towne Center, the exterior is fairly ordinary. Inside, it has, in my opinion, a bit of a New England fishing village pub vibe, with wood and decorations like a fish net with fake fish caught in it. Dani was our server and she did a great job taking care of us. Very nice, kept our glasses filled, and attended to all of our needs. My wife had Gary's Clam Linguini, which she enjoyed, and I had the grilled shrimp tacos. Plenty of tasty shrimp, filled with cabbage and cheese, and a nice cilantro lime aioli. The tacos were stuffed to the point of spillage. Very nice. It came with a side of tortilla chips and we both had the side salad, also very good. We will definitely be back. read more

This place had been on my "try someday" list forever whenever I was over in this area, mostly because people talk about the halibut constantly. Walking in, it honestly felt a little more kitschy strip mall seafood spot than I expected -- huge menu, lots of combinations, kind of that Cheesecake Factory energy where there are SO many options you stop knowing what the specialty is supposed to be. I ordered the cioppino and that was probably the biggest letdown for me. The broth was really thin and soupy without much depth. Weirdly, even the frozen Trader Joe's cioppino has more richness and flavor going on. We also tried the halibut fish and chips and they were... fine? Not bad, not amazing, just kind of middle-of-the-road for the price point. That said, I do think this might just be one of those places where you order very specifically. Everyone seems to swear by the halibut plates with sauces, so next time I'd probably try something like the lemon caper version instead. But at around $35 for some of the plates, I kept thinking I'd personally rather go get sushi somewhere or have two really good craft cocktails instead. Poor service. Walked directly into had to seat ourselves, after seating ourselves we waited 10 minutes without any menu, so we walked up to the front and they said they'd come help us. After that, we ordered coconut shrimp, which was severely undercooked, and they sent it back, which then came back out overcooked. Our waiter Niki was rude, from slamming the plates on the table, to no communication. Attempted to charge a "split" fee simply because we only ordered 1 entree. There's people that just don't like their job and it shows through their presentation, you don't bring life issues to work. My fish was very greasy as well . It's been a hot minute since I have dined at Fresh of the Hook. They are conveniently next to the DMV so we headed here for lunch today. It was perfect cause after lunch we just walked to the DMV. Walking in, we were instantly greeted. We were told to pick a table so we grabbed one by the cool fish tank. Menus were dropped off and drink orders were taken. I like the cool cups that our drinks were served in. We got our orders squared away so we just hung out till our food was being prepared. Our clam chowder was dropped off first. The chowder looked hearty! You can see the chunky pieces of potatoes and clams. It was fantastic! Potatoes were soft, clams were tender and chewy. My husband and I shared a cup of it but next time we will have to get our own bowls. We were fighting for the last bite. For lunch I got the shrimp cocktail. My husband snagged the shrimp and chips. Both looked so good! The shrimp cocktail was delicious! The shrimp were nicely cooked and had a good bite to them. Drizzle some fresh lemon juice with a big dip of the cocktail sauce..... chef's kiss! The cocktail sauce has a great heat to it. The horseradish made me nose burn so good! My husband's fried shrimp were crispy and savory! They came out fresh out the oil cause those babies were hot! The batter on the outside was tasty! The fries that came with the shrimp were great! They were perfectly fried and it had a seasoning coated on the outside of the fry. So good! Those are the best kind of fries. Ali took great care of us today. We were on a time crunch so Ali helped me get my bill squared away so we can just leave. She made sure our drinks were topped off and checked up on us a few times. It was nice to have great service! I have been coming here since they opened and I don't know that I will be back. Our clam chowder was served tepid at best. We each ordered a 6 piece fish & chips. One of our orders only had 4 pieces in it. When we brought it to the attention of the server, she literally picked through the fish and pointed out that one piece was a little bigger so we had all we needed. The fish pieces were bite sized which is significantly smaller than we have ever had. We asked for refills on soft drinks and water more than once and never received a single refill of either. For entry, the Mediterranean Halibut with a double on the seasonal veggies instead of the wild rice. Didn't get a pic of the Ahi Tuna because I ate it so fast!!! The halibut was also cooked perfectly and the Mediterranean sun-dried tomato and olive topping gave this light flavored fish character. Seasonal veggies were NOT a throw-away ... asparagus, red onion, zucchini, button mushrooms, and likely a bit of garlic and pancetta. Sautéed to perfection. My server was Mary C. Decided to go with the coconut shrimp appetizer and the loaded clam chowder bread bowl. The shrimp was solid, pretty much what you expect from a coconut shrimp. The Clam Chowder was good but also not outstanding. I wasn't a huge fan of the "loaded" aspect which added a Parmesan melt to the bread top as well as calamari and bacon. I was pleasantly surprised by the quaintness of the restaurant. The staff was friendly. I ordered fully loaded sourdough bread bowl with clam chowder ( topped with calamari and cheese). It was presented so well. Hot ,creamy and loaded up with goodness. However, the halibut fish and chips were rather boring. The tarter sauce is loaded with dill, which was nice. Satisfied my craving for fish and chips! Picked up a Togo order on my lunch on a Tuesday and was happy with what I got! I ordered the small lunch order of halibut. It was light and crisp and not too fishy. The regular fries were better than the sweet potato. They both had a slight fishy flavor which it to be expected. Both still very yummy though. Their tartar sauce is delicious. This was the perfect lunch amount but if it was a weekend or dinner I'd want the six piece. The fish is kinda small for the price but the quality seemed worth it. I visited Fresh off the Hook today with a friend of mine. We both had the Halibut fish and chips. The place is a lot smaller than I thought, but It is well decorated. The fish had a nice flavor and wasn't overly fishy, which is a sign that its fresh. The batter looked like a tempura which is nice, but it was not crispy. I like my batter crispy so when I eat it, I get a nice crunch. It was lunchtime, so my guess is that made up a large batch ahead of time and kept it either in the over or under a heat lamp. For the lunch crowd, this is what Id expect, but I was disappointed that the crust wasn't crispy. For me, the tartar sauce was not very good, but I am from Texas which means Im not a fan of mayo. The sauce here is mostly mayo, so I wasn't a fan. It has a good amount of dill in it, which I liked, but that's it for ingredients that I could make out. I wish I could find a place that has alternatives to a mayo based tartar, but were in Idaho where Mayo is king, so not sure I will find such a place here. Next up was their fries. They use a batter for their fries as well. Probably the same tempura batter they use for their fish. This makes the fries cripspy and gives them a very nice flavor that you cant get from just potatoes. So the bottom line here is that the Fish and Chips and good, but since there were not crispy, I cant say they were great, but my guess is that when they are fresh, they are crispy and much much better. read more

Found this gem located next to Target shopping center. I had half of a salmon sandwich and a cup of clam chowder. The Sandwich was delicious, salmon was perfectly cooked and nicely presented on a focaccia bread. The chowder was hearty and perfect for a cool day out. read more

We ordered the fish and chips, blackened ahi salad and clam chowder. The fish and chips had the perfect bread to fish ratio, and the tarter sauce was delicious. Order some coke slaw to go with it, they pair nicely. My husband says that was the best Ahi's salad he's had. Remember, we're from Vegas and all of our seafood is as frozen, and not fresh as it gets, so our opinion may be different from yours. I did a doordash order and even tho my food got delivered to my neighbor they got it to me and my food was still warm and smells so delicious. I usually go pick it up but I'm feeling a bit under the weather and we where craving fish and chips and Fresh of the Hook has been my place to go for them. This time I order also coconut shrimp and Greenbean fries they where so good. The shrimp was wow jumbo shrimps the Mango sauce was so good with a bit of sweet and spicy yum. The clam chowder was very good, and I loved the "Eileen's crab/lobster bake!" We took some friends with us for lunch and the halibut tacos and coconut salmon fish and chips were GREAT! Came here yesterday to try it out....once inside nice clean atmosphere. Sat ourselves which is fine at a clean table and waited for our waitress. Nice lady ones by takes our drink order and asks if any questions. After a quick look over the menu we knew what we wanted. We started with the 1/2 order of calamari and while it seemed to take a little long it was just ok nothing that special in my opinion. For lunch my wife had the fish and chips special and I had the 2 halibut fish tacos with some fries and coleslaw. This is where things got a little wobbly after watching multiple tables get their food we were getting pretty annoyed that we had been waiting for over 45 mins at this point and again while everyone else was getting their food. Even people who arrived 15 mins + after we did. Finally food and out and asked "if we got forgotten about" ...replied no your fish takes a little longer. Not sure how it was all fried and doubt if it's all hand battered. The food was all just ok...it was fried and the somewhat star were the fries which were super crispy and had great flavor. As for the fish part it was something you could get anywhere they knew how to fry fish. We might come back but nothing I personally would hurry back for. I will say this that for some people this would be a different experience and I base that on how busy the restaurant was for lunch and the amount of people as well as you could tell regulars. read more
