Salad and water was the best. Food was ok I guess. Romas pizza In Hudson has better lasagna. Shrimp and grits was good. Ranch dressing was definitely not Ranch. Some of the toast came with black edges. Lunch prices are good on the specials. Will I be back yes but I will not make a special trip for it. I see why the Hickory one had to close down.

Ate here two weeks ago and was excited to try to crab cakes. My server seemed bothered by me the whole time. Someone dropped off my food and she never stopped to check in. The crab cakes were literally mushy piles of meat, and the mixed veggies were cold basically raw with some cheesy thrown on top. I ate some of the food bc I was hungry but the texture was totally unappealing. She came over and I asked if that was how they normally made their crab cakes and she said that some people thought they were mushy before .... And then said "well if guess you don't want a box" and then offered dessert. I was shocked no apology not any level of service. When she went to get my check she left all the dishes and the host came over and I asked her she immediately looked at them and was like no that is not right and got a manager. He was extremely apologetic after looking at my food comp'd the meal. I was just shocked by the service and how off the food was. I won't be back.

I always turn to Yelp for restaurants when I'm traveling and I'm in unknown territory. Lately I've been very disappointed by the restaurants I've visited. But Fresh Chef is a really great find. Sooooo glad we found it. And if I lived within 50 miles I would be here all the time. We started with an appetizer of crab and artichoke dip. It came to the table quickly which was great because we were hungry! Fresh crisp crackers and a warm tasty dip. The table next to us had a shrimp and grits bowl and all I can say is that it looked delicious. And the portions were huge. I had a black and blue salad with beef tenderloin. Best steak I've had ever! And I'm not an aficionado of blue cheese dressing this was thick and chunky and plenty of it on the side. My wife had a simple chicken salad sandwich which came with a salad and fries. I tasted it and was impressed by how flavorful it was. The menu is pretty impressive and everything I saw on other tables looked really good. I want to try it all.

I've always been a fan of Fresh Chef in Conover. I used to frequent this restaurant both for dine in and carry out. I met a friend today and noticed that for a noon lunch date, the place was almost empty. Service was great, but the good was not. I ordered a Blackened Chicken Salad. The quality of the chicken was awful. Instead of the chunks of flavored chicken that is the norm for FC, I had these thin slivers of tasteless chicken. The salad itself was really just not as fresh or delicious as it used to be. It was also about half the size as usual. I was very disappointed. The restaurant still looks nice. However, I won't be back as my salad and drink were $18.57. My friend ordered the Hawaiian Chicken salad, and the pineapple looked as if it had been poured from a can. It was just not a great experience.

Two ate for $39.63 before tip. All I can say is WoW! Many - Healthy salad options for all types caught my eye. I'm a sucker for a wedge so I got the Wedge with Filet. Honestly, one of the best wedges I've ever had! Unique- Romaine open faced and grilled so all the contents were warm and not cold. Steak was perfect and the salad... hard to describe as it has many things going on from sun dried tomatoes, sunflower seeds and blue crumbles and purple onions and on and on! We weee blown away! Nice place inside, clean and Saturday night was easy to get in.

Host had her back to us and kept her back to us for several minutes, only turning around when another server noticed that we had been waiting. She finally took us to our table; where we proceeded to wait for 10-12 minutes more with no server coming by to even introduce themselves to us. Somehow the table behind us and beside us managed to maintain service, including multiple visits from the server during that time. Poor service, terrible employees. Won't be returning. read more

One of my all time favorites! They really do live up to their name of being fresh! They excellent customer service and are always attentive to customers needs! I have done both done i'm and take out and both times have both efficient! There place is very clean and well cared of as well! Such a pretty outdoor dining area as well. I went to Fresh Chef after a shopping at the Hickory Furniture Mart. It's a cute little place about 10-15 minutes from the Mart. I had the steak salad. The filet on the salad was cooked to my liking and the blue cheese dressing was delicious! read more

Decent place, it's basically the most convenient restaurant off the I -40 exit but is also a good quality place to eat. They seem to do a decent job at being consistent with entrees and such which is nice, but it pretty pricey, so don't expect to spend $10 a plate for dinner here. Wouldn't mind seeing a good craft beer menu here with rotating taps. read more

We went on a Saturday night about 6:30. Food was good. They wait on tables by committee so you never know who to ask for something. Ordered a drink. They brought them, took our order and the salads were out very quickly. At $10, I'd like to enjoy may drink a little. Before we finished the salads the entrees were out. They asked about dessert before we finished our entrees. The couple with us got their dessert, but we had to ask two different staff about where ours was. 10 minutes later, the manager brought it out, apologized and comped it. Overall, we felt rushed, like they couldn't wait to turn over the table and that service by committee was not the innovation needed for good service. read more

Our new favorite local spot! All is fresh and plentiful. Most dishes you can share with someone. My husband and oldest son, love their burgers. My favorite is the Black and Blue salad. Both indoor and outdoor seating. They can accommodate large parties as well. read more

We were spending the night in Hickory and wanted to find a local place to eat and boy oh boy, we were not disappointed. We sat outside in the covered patio area. Enjoyed a French onion soup-we shared as it was huge! My husband got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes with a mushroom burgundy sauce. I got the grilled salmon with broccoli and a salad. It was delicious! First time in a while I saw my husband struggle to finish a meal as he was getting stuffed. Our server, Nautica, was friendly and kept our waters full. Definitely recommend! read more

I rarely complain, but I have patronized Fresh Chef of Conover for several years now and this evening's meal was disastrous. First, when I called in my order for curbside, the girl answered, "Hey, how are you? What can I do for you?" Ok, not a huge deal, but she didn't even say the name of the restaurant, so I had to ask if it was Fresh Chef thinking I had dialed the wrong number. Then I had to tell her 3 times to substitute mashed potatoes for the fries on both orders. My black and bleu filet had no "bleu" (crumbles) on it. The steak was cooked medium-well and not medium like I asked. There was no grilled asparagus on the side like it was supposed to be. We called back after getting home with the food and explained with disappointment what had happened. The manager NEVER got on the phone and was telling the girl who answered what to say. We were told it had been ticketed as a lunch dish and this was the reason for the lack of asparagus. It was after lunch hours, no one told me they were giving a lunch portion, and to beat it all, THERE WERE NO BLEU CRUMBLES ON MY STEAK AND IT WASN'T COOKED CORRECTLY. Very disappointed in you Fresh Chef of Conover as I am a great tipper and your manager offered absolutely no remedy in the form of a gift card or anything after we told them we were home for the evening and couldn't come back. read more

I have been here in small and larger groups. The service is the best in the area. The food and cocktails are delicious. My personal favorite is the seared scallops special. The bar serves good cocktails and can accommodate recipes. The last time I was here I asked for a skinny margarita that is not listed on the menu and the bar tender made it happen. read more

Can't say enough about this place. While we were waiting for the rest of our party we were given complimentary "nibbles". Servers were polite and personable. I took my 12 year old niece out to eat here this afternoon. The service was very nice and professional. My niece ordered the Hawaiian Chicken Salad. It was fabulous. And the portion of her salad was huge. She had left overs. I had the Hawaiian Chicken wrap. It was to die for!!! Wonderful experience. Can not reccomend this restaurant enough. Not your usual run of your meal. Our food was great we enjoyed everything we ordered! I had the shrimp and my husband ordered the shrimp and grits. Our friends that were with us agreed she said her fillet was one of the best. Service was also great. My husband has been in the restaurant business for over 20 years. I have learned about the good the bad and the ugly. Fresh Chef was actually recommended by the barber Matt over at wood and steel Hickory. Kudos Matt! We moved here from Chicago and Fresh Chef delivered not only great food, but outstanding service. The timing of plate delivery is just a little quick I didn't finish my salad before the entree was brought out but I talk a lot so that could be my bad. Fresh Chef is known for our Fresh food, delicious salads, wraps, seafood, and hand cut steaks. We have new lunch and dinner specials daily. We serve a different homemade soups and fresh featured vegetables everyday. Fresh chef dishes are homemade from serving salad dressings to desserts. No freezers just fresh food. Saturday and Sunday we now are offering breakfast 9am - 12 pm. We serve egg platters, benedicts, omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, and much more. Check out our breakfast menu! We have daily drink specials with fresh squeezed juices for our cocktails!

Established in 2014.

We started our first restaurant September 2015 and now we have a total of six locations. We are a fresh food concept with hand cut steaks, fish and chicken. We serve wraps, salads, pasta and other American dishes.

The mac n cheese was delicious and even came with extra cheese on top. The portion of fries and fish was generous but I didn't know I would be getting fish sticks. So it wasn't what I was expecting. Only a fork was provided in the napkin when a knife would have been useful. The prices were reasonable too. If I make it back this way again I'd stick with the burger next time.
