Very Good experience with Take out here, chicken wraps, burgers, fruit plate and chilli all delicious and fresh.

One of my all time favorites! They really do live up to their name of being fresh! They excellent customer service and are always attentive to customers needs! I went to Fresh Chef after a shopping at the Hickory Furniture Mart. It's a cute little place about 10-15 minutes from the Mart. I had the steak salad. The filet on the salad was cooked to my liking and the blue cheese dressing was delicious! read more

Everyone at their table raved about the food which is a rarity because someone is always disappointed with their meal. Service is friendly (as well as the chef/owner) and attentive. Decent place, it's basically the most convenient restaurant off the I -40 exit but is also a good quality place to eat. They seem to do a decent job at being consistent with entrees and such which is nice, but it pretty pricey, so don't expect to spend $10 a plate for dinner here. Wouldn't mind seeing a good craft beer menu here with rotating taps. read more

We went on a Saturday night about 6:30. Food was good. They wait on tables by committee so you never know who to ask for something. Ordered a drink. They brought them, took our order and the salads were out very quickly. At $10, I'd like to enjoy may drink a little. Before we finished the salads the entrees were out. They asked about dessert before we finished our entrees. The couple with us got their dessert, but we had to ask two different staff about where ours was. 10 minutes later, the manager brought it out, apologized and comped it. Overall, we felt rushed, like they couldn't wait to turn over the table and that service by committee was not the innovation needed for good service. read more

We were spending the night in Hickory and wanted to find a local place to eat and boy oh boy, we were not disappointed. We sat outside in the covered patio area. Enjoyed a French onion soup-we shared as it was huge! My husband got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes with a mushroom burgundy sauce. I got the grilled salmon with broccoli and a salad. It was delicious! First time in a while I saw my husband struggle to finish a meal as he was getting stuffed. Our server, Nautica, was friendly and kept our waters full. I rarely complain, but I have patronized Fresh Chef of Conover for several years now and this evening's meal was disastrous. First, when I called in my order for curbside, the girl answered, "Hey, how are you? What can I do for you?" Ok, not a huge deal, but she didn't even say the name of the restaurant, so I had to ask if it was Fresh Chef thinking I had dialed the wrong number. Then I had to tell her 3 times to substitute mashed potatoes for the fries on both orders. My black and bleu filet had no "bleu" (crumbles) on it. The steak was cooked medium-well and not medium like I asked. There was no grilled asparagus on the side like it was supposed to be. We called back after getting home with the food and explained with disappointment what had happened. The manager NEVER got on the phone and was telling the girl who answered what to say. We were told it had been ticketed as a lunch dish and this was the reason for the lack of asparagus. It was after lunch hours, no one told me they were giving a lunch portion, and to beat it all, THERE WERE NO BLEU CRUMBLES ON MY STEAK AND IT WASN'T COOKED CORRECTLY. Very disappointed in you Fresh Chef of Conover as I am a great tipper and your manager offered absolutely no remedy in the form of a gift card or anything after we told them we were home for the evening and couldn't come back. read more

Our new favorite local spot! All is fresh and plentiful. Most dishes you can share with someone. My husband and oldest son, love their burgers. My favorite is the Black and Blue salad. Both indoor and outdoor seating. They can accommodate large parties as well. read more

I have been here in small and larger groups. The service is the best in the area. The food and cocktails are delicious. My personal favorite is the seared scallops special. The bar serves good cocktails and can accommodate recipes. The last time I was here I asked for a skinny margarita that is not listed on the menu and the bar tender made it happen. read more

Wonderful experience. Can not reccomend this restaurant enough. Not your usual run of your meal. Our food was great we enjoyed everything we ordered! I had the shrimp and my husband ordered the shrimp and grits. Our friends that were with us agreed she said her fillet was one of the best. Service was also great. The restaurant really is a lovely gem in downtown Conover. The menu is diverse, and the servings are quite substantial. The prices are a bit high for this part of North Carolina, but I would definitely go there again because the food is so good. The wine list is also surprisingly extensive. The service was not terrific the day that we ate lunch there, but everyone apologized stating that several employees had not shown up. My only complaint is that the parking lot does not meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities) minimum guidelines for handicapped accessible parking space. When I gently noted this to the waitress she just shrugged. When I mentioned this to the owner, he was apologetic, but like many able-bodied business owners, did not really seem to appreciate that this would be a concern for those of us who have friends and family members with disabilities that we would like to bring here to dine. read more

This restaurant will give your GPS a bit of a workout, but it's well worth the effort. It's located in the middle of a group of storefronts in an off-street in Conover. We arrived about 5 pm on a Friday andwere greeted at the door by a friendly young woman,, then seated immediately. The server came to get our drink orders. My wife got a ginger ale, and I got a draft Greenman ESB ( a North Carolina microbrew) that I wasn't familiar with. It turned out to be a very good choice. My wife ordered the house special chicken salad sandwich, and when she asked that it be put on white bread toast, she was told the only bread options were Texas Toast and brioche bun. She agreed to the brioche bun, but soon the server came back to our table and said -one time only - she could have white toast because the bread company had mistakenly delivered one loaf of white bread. I ordered the portobello mushroom sandwich on brioche. Both sandwiches came with two sides - kale salad and fries - but substitutions could be made. The kale salad came out first, and it was HUGE! When the sandwiches arrived, the fries were also in ample supply. My sandwich was great - a large slice of mushroom with lettuce and a slightly tangy vinaigrette dressing. The chicken salad itself was excellent, but in this version the kitchen did something we had never seen before; they put cheese on the chicken salad. That was not to my wife's liking, but the sandwich was big enough that she could take off the side of bread with the cheese and put the other two - with just the chicken salad - together to make a sizable sandwich without the cheese. All in all, this was a reasonably priced an good-tasting meal. I would be giving this restaurant five stars, had it not been for the unexpected cheese addition. I suppose we should read the fine print in the menu next time. Service, by the way, was very good and prompt. The restaurant had only a moderate number of people there when we arrived, but when we left at @ 6:15, people were standing outside waiting for tables. read more
