It's been a long time since I've eaten at Fresh Catch in Kaimuki...........several years ago when my beloved H.K. Restaurant closed in Moiliili, I was on a quest to look for a new place where I could get a good beef stew.
Back then, I remembered walking into Fresh Catch on a Sunday afternoon, and remember it to be empty (as it was close to closing time). I ordered myself a beef stew plate to eat, and basically it was a disaster as it was so oily! From there, I never stepped back into Fresh Catch until today.
Today was the day I met up with my Yelp buddy Nat N. (she's a cool chick) for some lunch grindz, and she mentioned to me about going to "Fresh Catch".
At 1st I didn't recognize the name of the business, as it has been "THAT LONG" since I came here last to eat. But after she described to me where this place was, I realized I've eaten here before, and mentioned to her about the beef stew incident. Lol!
I'm glad I finally came back here to eat today, as everything about it was good........good food, but best of all.......even greater company!
If I could just say one small downer about my dining experience here today, was probably the long wait to get my food. I do know they were extremely busy at lunch today, so the wait time was probably normal.......but if you're in a rush or something............may I suggest "NOT" to order the Ahi Katsu, as it takes a bit to time to prepare.
So getting down to the grindz.........
Like I had mentioned before..........I ended up ordering the Ahi Katsu plate. It came with two scoops of brown rice, & the Ahi Katsu. I did remember ordering some greens with my plate, as I didn't want the mac salad. After eating my meal, I realized that they had forgotten to give me my salad with my plate....oh, well.......it was just too much food anyways.
My buddy Nat ordered a Poke Bowl........which consisted to two scoops of brown rice & poke.
What can I say about da grindz! Well, I'm glad I got the Ahi Katsu.........although deep fried, the fish was still moist, and not oily at all. They sure served up a large generous portion of Ahi Katsu! The Ahi Katsu came with a dipping sauce which was kinda mayonnaised based, but it really complimented the Ahi Katsu well! The brown rice I had was a bit dry, so I kinda picked at it, but didn't really consumed it as it was too hard for me. I really can't say anything about the greens, as I didn't get my salad (as I totally forgot). No matter, I was full anyways, and I must say the Ahi Katsu was delicious! I would come back here just to eat this dish again, provided when it's not too busy.........otherwise you'll probably have to wait for quite sometime to get your food.
There is limited free parking in the private parking lot which is shared by a Recycling company. When it's busy at Fresh Catch, parking can be limited. When I showed up at around 11:30 AM today, I was lucky enough to get the last parking stall........phew! Otherwise I'd probably have to look for street parking.
Chance 'em gang! Good local kine grindz here! :) read more
