My husband and I were looking for a new place to try out and remembered seeing French Quater the last time we were in downtown Boston. So we set out for our date night. They do ask for proof of vaccination so be prepared. We sat down and our waiter, Marco, came over right away. He greeted us and proceeded to Fer our drink order. When he came back we had lots of questions about the dishes and according to him everything was good. Sure, ok. My drink, Serviteurs, was delicious. It was pistachio base. We chose our appetizers, crusted crab claws and fried okra. Both very delicious. Our entrees were different. The shrimp and grits dish was drenched in a salty gravy mix and while the crab crusted catfish was nice and hot it sat on a bed of cold rice mixed with corn which was not too pleasant. When our water asked us about our dishes, we told him about them but too late to order something else. The excitement was gone. So we thought dessert would make up some of it. We ordered beignets. 3 beignets were brought to us covered with powdered sugar. Frankly they tasted like fried dough. I've had better at Cafe Fleury. It's a one and done for us. read more

Have you ever wanted to break down and CRY during an amazing dinner?? No?? Then come to The French Quarter. This is one of the BEST meals I've had in my life. There are literally no words to describe what just happened to me! I'm going to try though... We started off with the famous Sazarac and Cane River Punch. Quite the presentation! Russell, our informative, professional and attentive server LIT MY DRINK ON FIRE!! It was marvelous and quite unexpected. One punch was all I needed to get a nice buzz, as it was quite strong! We then ordered solely off of the "small plates" menu so we could sample many of their fabulous dishes. We were NOT disappointed! Russell helped us out by suggesting a few things and we ended up with the Bon Temps Fried Oysters, fried crab fingers, shrimp and grits, Gumbo Ya Ya, NOLA Style BBQ Shrimp and cornbread. The oysters were deliciously fried to a crispy outside while the inside was lusciously creamy and literally bursting with flavor. While the fried crab fingers were considerably small- be advised that you get this dish for the TASTE...not the portion. And it's well worth the experience. The presentation is gorgeous and is accompanied with their spicy creole sauce, which is boldly flavored. For me, my new favorite dish is now the shrimp and grits. I have to preface that by saying I have tried grits in the past and did not enjoy them. However, these ain't your Waffle House kind! They were served as the base for succulent, saucy, Louisiana-styled, mildly spicy shrimp. This is a MUST TRY dish! My fiancé really, REALLY enjoyed his Gumbo Ya Ya. The roux was the best I'd ever experienced and had big, meaty chunks of sausage throughout, with white rice set on top. While I'm not a big fan of gumbo- this dish won me over! The decor was very typical of what you'd see in NOLA with that old, French-American charm. Ferns adorned small spaces and corners, sconces lit up the pillars and walls, a mural of the bayou mesmerized me while I dined and the wrought iron fences highlighted the bar. What a refreshing difference from the "Boston Feel"! All in all-this restaurant is deserving 10 stars. With their chef hailing right from the source...this is as authentic as you can get. We went here for dinner and drinks this past Friday night and everything was amazing! Cocktails were perfectly balanced, reasonable priced, and full of character. The food was off the chain. Cornbread nice and sweet; Gumbo appetizer both quite large and tasty; Jambalaya and shrimp etouffee both amazing. And ice cream with beignets so delicious! And our server, Jonathan, was awesome and gave us great suggestions around the food and drinks. Will definitely be back here once all the covid stuff calms down one day. read more

Had dinner here for the first time last Friday. The atmosphere and vibe were great! Drinks were fantastic and looked like a work of art. The food was decent, but would probably try a different dish next time. After dropping off the food the server did not come back for close to an hour. Even after subtle hints like eye contact and looking towards wait station. We really just wanted the food to be cleared and order another drink. I was craving some good Cajun food, and French quarter nailed it! The drinks are relatively cheap for Boston and they are STRONG! The only thing that really didn't sell me was the fact for the fish and chips, it was one singular fried catfish. One.... piece... of... fish. LOOOL like I can't even comprehend that still, I need to unpack that trauma at a later time - cause usually I do expect more than one piece of fish if I'm ordering fish and chips - but I digress. Overall, it's good eats but the portions can be a little bit on the smaller side and food can be a bit too salty depending on what you get. Made our first visit to this fun restaurant on Memorial Day weekend. Wow! It was fantabulous! A great taste of NOLA in Boston. I could have eaten a loaf of the lost market bread. So damn good. Our waiter was the manager who apologized that they were short staffed. So I expected a long wait but there was no long wait. Every thing came out fast. It was crazy fast. The crawfish etouffee was scrumptious and as good as any I've had in New Orleans. Given how much we had to eat and drink the cost was not bad. Fantastic iced tea too! read more

After a night of shows and dinners, we wanted to bring our friends who were visiting from out of town to get 1 more round of drinks for the night. As soon as we walked through the door around 9 PM, the hostess immediately made us feel unwelcome and looked like she didn't want to be there. What a lazy ass. She told us the bar is for drinks and tables are for food but the bar was full and we were willing to get a few appetizers. I mean at 9:30 at night you're not going to get much business and they only had about 2 tables of the whole restaurant being occupied. The hostess was trying to get us to leave, gasping and snarling at the fact that we still wanted to be seated. She walked away for about 6 minutes and said "she had to see if a table was open". Just about every table in the place was open. Felt like I was talking to a 12 year old who didn't want to do their chores tbh. We were then sat in the very back corner, hidden away from everyone. Overall just such an unpleasant experience and were not welcome by any means. This is not how I want visitors to think of Boston and the hostess and waiters should be ashamed. After all, if you're after money as a business, why would you want to reject a customer when traffic is low anyways. Besides that, drinks were amazing, food was ok. read more

Popped in today for a few cocktails and apps on a rare kid free afternoon. Had a great time. Sat at the bar and ordered two of their NOLA inspired cocktails. We ended up splitting the BBQ shrimp, crawfish & Tasso fritters, fried oysters and the red beans & rice. All were good. Personally, the oysters were my favorite. They were fresh and crisp. We are so happy that there's real authentic cajun food in Boston now. We went for dinner this past weekend and were blown away by how good the food was. We ordered tapas style, getting a small plate of the red beans and rice, shrimp and grits, and gumbo. All of them were a 5/5. The hurricane was solid and worth ordering, but the cucumber collins was our favorite cocktail. We finished off with some dessert and were lucky enough to try both the chocolate pecan pie and the bananas foster bread pudding. Bread pudding is one of my favorite desserts, and it did not disappoint! The decor is on-point and has a cozy New Orleans vibe. Although it was expensive for shrimp and grits at $26, it tasted great and was the envy of the table. Others got etouffee and the spicy chicken sandwich, of which I took a couple bites too. All good! Been to the FQ restaurant twice now. Children's menu is reasonably priced and the kids were happy with their noodles and chicken fingers. Neither are New Orleans style and good for kids. Wife was happy with her jambalaya, though it was a little soupy the second time we were there. I had a bite and didn't think it was seasoned bc and no real spice. I ordered the Etoufee the first time and was very unimpressed. Not very well seasoned. Second time I ordered fish and chips, which is catfish. The catfish was well breaded and crunchy, but not seasoned and bland. We also ordered an appetizer the second time, and it didn't come before we got entree so asked to cancel. A bit average, maybe slightly above average, but the price is a little high for the quality. read more

Came here on a whim with the family and I'm so glad we did. We were greeted by a friendly enthusiastic host and was seated right away. We started out with the cornbread muffins and they were delicious!!! Had the shrimp and grits and the chicken jambalaya and they were very authentic and delicious with that kick of heat. We finished off with the banana foster pudding and it was great! The host, server, waiter and all of the staff were very friendly and attentive. I never thought I would find myself in a Cajun restaurant in Boston but having lived in Louisiana for several years I was curious. We had a bit of time to kill and a cocktail & beignet was too tempting and I am so glad we stopped by. Really cute bar with large windows that open during nice weather, great food including crawfish- remoulade sauce is so freaking good. Our bartender Alejandro was THE BEST!! So friendly and brought us little tastes of the drinks he was concocting. Lovely atmosphere and friendly conversation across guests and staff. My husband and I take a yearly Valentine's trip, this year it was to Boston. After a long snow day, we wanted warm tasty food. The French Quarter was less than a block away from our hotel. It's nestled in between the Boston Ballet and the Paramount Theatre. We arrived just after the rush and were seated quickly. Our server, Tyler was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant's decor had various hints of blue which were absolutely beautiful in the darkness of the restaurant. I had the crab crusted catfish with dirty rice and green beans. My husband had shrimp and grits. Both dishes were full of so much flavor and their corn bread is a must, has to be the best corn bread I've ever had. Food was ok. But lots of issues in others areas. For starters, our server forgot to ring in my drink, plus my food, and my friend's food. Which left us with nothing while the rest of the table got to eat. Secondly, the food runner was extremely impatient and repeatedly THREW our dishes on the table. Lastly, they added a $4 up charge for each of our meals because we ordered off of the kids menu, and no one told us that would be an up charge. Considering we only ate the child portions, that was a little unnecessary. Our server was very nice, and I understand it was the day of the Celtics parade, but there were lots of issues going on that ruined our experience. read more

Best Cajun/creole "New Orleans" food outside of NOLA. Had the crawfish etouffe 2 days ago and it was excellent. Legit 8.5 out of 10 compared to the best restaurants in NOLA. Came back today and first off the best cornbread I have ever had. Ridiculous and everyone should order it to start. Next was crab fingers which were quite delicious. My wife had the breaded catfish and fries (fish and chips) which was perfectly breaded, fried and seasoned but really the Crawfish Mojo dish is next level and the best crawfish dish outside of NOLA. I can eat a few pounds of mudbugs at a time and while this isn't just a giant plate of crawfish (which would be perfect) the mixture of saffron, excellent pasta and of course great crawfish and ham makes this a dish you have to try while here. The staff is great and sat us on a Saturday night with no reservations. Super attentive and look forward to my next trip to Boston to eat here again. read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday. We were among the first in there Sunday morning, so the vibe wasn't lively since there weren't a lot of people. But my group was lively on their own. The service was good. The waiter was attentive and polite. It would be interesting to see service when it's a bit busier. I was disappointed that shrimp and grits wasn't an option for brunch. Such a missed opportunity. We ordered onion rings for appetizer and it was flavorful but barely had any crunch to it. I ended up ordering the shrimp po boy with sweet potato fries. The fries were great. Nice crisp, fully cooked, and lightly seasoned. The shrimp was also nicely fried and good crunch. The sauce was a bit overly seasoned though. And the French bread was too hard to enjoy it as a sandwich. Other people in my group had the French toast which they enjoyed and the shrimp and chicken gumbo. Both were delicious -- rich, generous portions with all the decadent NOLA flavor and spice you could want. For the pageantry, drama, and authentic rum punch "I'm on vacation" flavor, get the flaming rum drink. Beautiful, updated decor and contemporary bluesy music evoke NOLA without being kitschy. I had so much Étouffe leftover Matt, our server, asked if I wanted a box. "I do, but we are going to a show. I wish restaurants were like hotels where you can leave your bags, do your thing, and come get it later." "We can do that," he said. Everything was amazing and exceeded expectations, finished every last morsel of food. The starters are entree sized so be warned! The chef is from New Orleans and I knew it was gonna be legit when the waiter told us that the chef adjusts the spices for the New England palate (which is super boring and bland) but if we wanted good authentic Creole spice level to let him know bc the chef will deliver. Sat at the bar for the sole purpose of the speedy convenience of having a drink and an app. Our server/bartender was the worst. I have not have any bad service at any restaurant during my trip to Boston until now. She didn't give us her name, but she's the curly headed girl. Gave us our drinks and never came back to check on us for a second or more food. We had to stare at her for her to get the hint to come back to our end of the bar and ask for the check. After she left the check she took over 20 mins to come back. She had an attitude with the couple sitting next to us when the woman asked for water without ice. She did the same to them-gave them their drinks and never came back to check on them for another cocktail or more food. They'd have a better chance of upselling if they had a better bartender on staff or if she had a better attitude. read more
