I've tried a number of seafood boils around MA and Cap't Loui is definitely one of the better ones. We had shrimp and mussels with medium Cap't Loui sauce and lemon pepper and added garlic noodles and sausage. They sell by the half pound or pound with their prices listed on the walls in the restaurant based on their current market prices. The portions felt like a lot for what we ordered as we split about three pounds of seafood between three people and were all stuffed. The mussels were big and shrimp were very fresh and clean. The medium sauce was not too spicy and it also came with a potato and small corn on the cob. I thought their garlic noodles were not as good as I've had at other seafood boils, but they do not skimp on the garlic! The restaurant has a spacious front dining area where you enter from the mall with tables for larger parties and the back area where there are a lot of tables for smaller groups. All tables are lined with paper as you'd expect from a seafood boil restaurant and they use all plastic ware and cups. The service was relatively quick and attentive and they also give you gloves, bib, and a bucket for the shells as you eat. Dollar oyster Tuesday! Our server, she was very attentive, nice and gave me a pitcher of water so i didn't have to have her refill every 30 seconds haha. They do a good job of shucking the oysters here, no shell bits that you bite into when consuming and it wasn't gritty! The funnel cake fries were always yummy! We had that with the ice cream! It was an surprisingly good experience. Even located in a busy mall, you have there the feeling of a cozy place. Very neat and clean. Also the host welcome you like they really know and care for you. It was my very first time and is not going to be tha last. I was between eating times and I went there for just a jambalajua soup and a shot of tequila. Cap't Loui in Braintree would have to be my favorite seafood boil in all of Massachusetts. I love how their seafood boil has a bit of sweetness that compliments the strong Cajun flavors. The seafood is fresh and the mussels were big. The sausages were flavorful and everything was delicious. My only wish was that I wish their sides of rice were bigger as they were on the smaller side. The service was amazing, the servers were extremely attentive and offered refills of water very quickly. The interior is stunning with graphics drawn all over the walls that made the experience of eating there even better. TLDR This is not Cajun food, and the crawfish tastes genuinely bad to me. I am from Louisiana, and was really looking forward to a taste of home. I was disappointed and bewildered by the "Cajun" boiled seafood. I purchased medium-spicy Cajun live crawfish and head-on shrimp. If you take this food as something other than Cajun boiled seafood, my review is this: The shrimp was okay. The crawfish tasted very bland. The spicy garlic sauce masked the more delicate flavor of the crawfish, so it tasted like I could have been chewing anything. I believe the fatal flaw is that the seafood is boiled in plain water and then tossed in an oily, garlic-heavy sauce. Louisiana-style boiled seafood traditionally is boiled with its seasoning and served without the shells being covered in a sauce. Whatever this is, it is not Cajun boiled seafood, and I really wish it was not advertised as such. I feel sort of offended to have my home's food represented this way. PS. Service was lovely! Capt Loui hits the mark when you want some indulgent seafood boil. Their Capt Loui sauce is so good! It can get really spicy but their mild is great and suits everything. Our favorite add-ins are their shrimp, snow crab, sausage and corn. The best side is their cajun fries - they're ultra thin and crispy. So tasty. Docking a point because the potatoes are just these tasteless whole boiled potatoes they just dumped into the bag. They could've at least cut them in half so they could absorb the sauce. Oysters are expensive and very average. Also the service can be hit or miss. Sometimes they're very attentive, other times they can be forgetful. Cap't Loui, by far, has the best seafood boil in MA! I love going to this location which is in SSP & I also heard the Stoneham location is bomb, as well! I love getting EVERYTHING (literally!) from here. Shrimp is always super fresh (I get head-on), clams are amazing, crab legs are to die for (drooling right now as I am typing this),... like you must try everything from here. There are also combo options to save a bit of money. We didn't have a huge appetite so we picked our own: shrimp, mussels, sausages, potatoes, and rice. Cane here on a Tuesday evening for the $1 oyster deal and was happily pleased with the quality of seafood! We got a dozen of $1 oysters and they were so fresh and tasty. They were pretty large and meaty oysters too! I've been to a lot of $1 oyster places around the Boston area and I'd have to say this is one of the best I've had in terms of quality and taste. I appreciate how they give tabasco sauce as well. We also got some seafood boil that was delicious. I definitely recommend the calamari -- you get a lot for 1/2 a pound! The calamari was not rubbery at all. The mussels were also really good, not too chewy. The shrimp was also cooked well too. The classic Capt Loui sauce was tasty, super flavorful with lots of Cajun seasoning that pairs amazingly with their garlic noodles. Their garlic noodles definitely deliver on the garlic! I love how the seafood boil comes with a corn and a potato (I got an extra potato!). Service overall was good, our food came out quickly and our server was friendly. The interior design consists of red and black color scheme with chalkboard-style artwork. The seats are comfortable and the tables are wide, which is friendly for large groups. The light is on the dim side but I guess that is the vibe they are going for lol. There is a whole other section of tables in the back of the restaurant, which is not visible when you first walk in if you enter from the mall entrance. Parking: Plenty of parking spots. I recommend parking in the covered parking lot right in front of the restaurant, which is on the same floor as Target's covered parking lot. Things to keep messy eaters clean and fresh: Mouthwashes are available in the bathroom so you can make sure to leave the place with fresh breath! They also provide gloves and plastic bibs. Sometimes, they take a while to help out customers at the front (whether for dine in or pickup/carryout) 2.
