I've driven by Southside Tavern countless times in the months since I moved to the area, and since it always seems to be packed, I figured it was time to check it out. I'm happy to say this local bar and grill exceeded my expectations! It's located on a busy corner with a small parking lot out front - but there's a huge free lot next door for easy access. I visited around 7pm on a Friday night and had no trouble getting a table even though the place was pretty full. It's a causal spot with lots of tables, a large bar, and tons of TVs throughout (seems like a great place to catch a game). I started out with the Mistletoe cocktail, and was pleasantly surprised by how well balanced and refreshing it was! You don't expect a great bar program from casual little spots like this, so the fact that it wasn't undrinkabley sweet was a win in my book. The food is your typical tasty, bar and grill vibes with generous portions. The menu is massive and covers everything from burgers and sandwiches to tacos and turkey dinners. It's a great spot for when no one can agree on what kind of food they're in the mood for, but still wants a reliable, casual meal. We'll be back! read more

Stopped by for lunch today Service was great and we enjoyed the food. My wife and daughter, both complimented the salads that they got as both large and well prepared. The one issue we had was we ordered dessert and the kitchen forgot that it was in the oven and burned it After 20 minutes after we ordered it, we asked the waitress to check on it and she came back and reported that they had burned it and wants to know if we wanted it redone or just cancel the order. We had it redone. I was surprised, however, that it was still included in the bill and they made no effort to adjust the bill for the error and the inordinate delay. read more

We were heading to see a movie at AMC in Braintree and wanted to grab some dinner beforehand so we stopped in at Southside Tavern. It's situated on a corner in the little downtown. It has some parking in front, but there is a municipal lot adjacent. When you walk in, it's a wide open area with a dining room on the left and a bar area on the right. We chose to sit in the dining room. Perusing the interesting menu, we immediately focused on the buffalo chicken wontons, and we loved them! They weren't too crispy, and the filling was spicy and delightful. My husband got the fireman burger because he likes spicy things. He said it was good, but not as spicy as he had hoped. For me, I got the steak tips. First, they are more like steak pieces, tender, and marinated to perfection. I really can't emphasize enough how delicious these were. There are a large number of sides to choose from, and you can choose two. I got sautéed spinach and asparagus, both fresh and wonderful. I loved this place so much that I went back a few nights later before the end of my trip. My husband had already gone home so I was on my own, but when I got there, the place was packed. The only place to sit was the bar, which was fine. They had the Boston Bruins game on and the bartender took great care of me. I wanted to have those steak tips again, but a special caught my eye. It was a chipotle ranch quesadilla burger. It comes with fries, but I also wanted a Caesar salad so I ordered that, but I think I wasn't clear and the bartender substituted the salad for the fries. The Caesar salad, of course m, was a much healthier option so I just went with it and it was so good and fresh! I loved the freshly grated Parmesan. The burger was interesting. It was very delicious but messy to eat because unlike a typical quesadilla, it was sort of just a burger on tortillas. The messy-ness did not detract from how good it was, though. The restaurant is located on a busy corner. There is a parking lot, it tends to be full, if you see a spot on the street, park there. There is outdoor seating with pretty flowers and heaters. The vibe is welcoming here. Service was good and the staff was quick to grab our drinks and take our order. It was pretty busy for a weeknight. The chicken was cooked well and was moist on the inside. The sautéed spinach complemented the mash potatoes and cheese. The menu has some creative options I would like to try next time. read more

Southside Tavern is a casual spot for a quick meal after a round of golf in Braintree. It is only 5 minutes away from the golf course and has decently priced food and drinks. My friends got the burgers and it came with generous portion of fries or sweet potatoe fries. I had the Chicken Dominico with pasta and the marsala demi glaze was delicious. If there was more sauce, it would be better for the huge pasta ratio. It was pretty busy for a Tuesday night but luckily they have their own parking lot. They were doing trivia night and had plently of TVs for the games. Great chill spot. read more

Your standard American foods located at Southside Tavern Bar! Parking can be hard to find if the lot is full. They open really late for the area which is nice. Nice bar, open floor plan and dining room. Really good vibe and friendly staff! The Chicken Dominico is my go to dish with mushroom and gravy. They got your standard sandwiches and burgers. This is a great find in Braintree. Before I get into the review, I am actually giving them 3 1/2 stars just for the record. So my buddy and I arrived at this location and we parked easily right at the front door in the private parking lot. They have a handicap ramp outside if anyone is in a wheelchair, very easy access. The exterior of the building is very Quaint and some white festive. In the summertime they do put out tables with umbrellas. As we walked inside, we were greeted promptly by a host, who sat us down immediately. The menu was vast and it took a couple minutes glance thru and decide what to order. My buddy went for the bacon cheddar burger for $14.99. It was a good size burger coded with white cheddar cheese and hickory smoked bacon on a bun. It also came with some shredded lettuce slice a tomato slice of onion and a pickle slice. In addition you could choose one side for free which was included with the burger and could be chosen from any of the side orders available on the menu, my buddy, pick the mashed potatoes, which appeared to be homemade and tasted great. The burger itself was cooked perfectly, and had great flavor. As for my selection I chose the shot rib grilled cheese sandwich. It caught my eye, and when it arrived at the table it was a little different than I thought, but overall a great sandwich. It's tender braised beef short ribs, buttered and grilled on sourdough bread, smothered with melted cheddar cheese, and a side cup of Ajou. For my side, I got the sweet potato fries. They seem to be a little bit on the greasy side. My sandwich, however, was original. It was put together with a good amount of beef short rib and the sourdough bread was toasted. Excellent sandwich now to even make the sandwich great was the Ajou it was a thicker Ajou, not watery, It was on the thicker side and you could dunk the sandwich into the Ajou excellent!! The young lady name Natasha was our waitress. She was extremely pleasant, very polite, knowledgeable, and very sociable. She was willing to answer a few questions about the menu, and she brought everything over promptly. I would give her a solid five out of five stars. The atmosphere in the restaurant was hustle and bustle when you walk in, to the left, it looked more like an Elks Hall with scattered tables and basically no decor. But to the right when you walk in a little bit and go to the right, they had a large bar with high tops, and it was very festive in there. I would like to state that I was there at on Saturday afternoon around 3 o'clock and the place was jampacked, and had a good vibe. Now the reason why this restaurant is a 3 1/2 star instead of a 4 1/2 star is because of the men's room I made my way to the urinal and I almost got knocked over with the odor. They have a waterless urinal actually two and I don't know if it's functioning incorrectly but I could've got knocked over by the odor. It was difficult to stay in there and relieve myself. The smell was so bad. Other than that, the rest of the restaurant seem to be clean and odor free. I would highly suggest this restaurant as the food quality seem to be top-notch and as I said my experience with Natasha was over and above what you would expect she's fabulous and so is the rest of the staff. read more

We've been coming here for years and haven't had a problem. The food was always good. The waitresses were great. The last two times the food wasn't good at all. First and LAST time eating here. Waitress was nice and pleasant...at first. Apps and drinks good, then came out my food. Ordered the lettuce wraps, have had them dozens and dozens of times (elsewhere). Out came a chunk of iceberg lettuce...like a wedge. That was not typical for a lettuce wrap but ok....then there was a pinch of shredded carrots and cabbage on the wedge. The waitress then set down what looked like a dark soup with chunks in it. Never have I had wraps like this. Sauces are typically on the side, rest f ingredients not bathing in them. Waitress did not come to check on us until we flagged her down, she asked if I wanted my food boxed, no asking how it was, nothing. My throat had begun swelling up and I completely lost my voice. She began snappy towards us, we never said anything mean or rude, just that I could not eat the food so no box was needed. We got out as quickly as possible and went to Walgreens for Benadryl....bonus for them to have a pharmacy next door? There is the one star...location. Folks around Braintree and Quincy flock to Southside Tavern when they're looking for a spot for unpretentious bar food and beer. There's a big parking lot to the left wrapping around to the back and inside, it's jammed packed and noisy so not an ideal spot for a date night. The menu is extensive and a bit overwhelming to my liking so we decided to go with some basic apps and drinks. Chicken Wings w/out Sauce- If these wings had the sauce drenched all over them, I could judge it fairly but I didn't want to go through with the mess so I skipped it entirely and went for the plain fried wings. For what it was, it's good. Calamari- Simply fried with a very bland batter. Luckily the sliced banana pepper gave it a nice tangy and mild touch. Not bad with a beer. Overall Service: Very nice staff but I really couldn't hear anything because of all the commotion that was happening around the dining area. For drinks, we ordered the coconut pain killer ($12) and raspberry lime rickey ($10). The coconut pain killer was overly sweet and could hardly taste the rum. We ordered nachos with buffalo chicken ($14), steak tips with mashed potato and fries ($21) and BBQ chicken pizza with bacon as an add on ($11). We paid an additional $2.99 for buffalo chicken with the nachos; however, was only given 2-3 small pieces. I was amazed at how great the steak tips tasted - well seasoned! The BBQ chicken pizza was average - nothing special. Our server was not attentive. He came over ONCE throughout the entire dine-in experience (only to hand us the bill). Wonderful night out during a challenging time. I brought the family to SouthSide Tavern for dinner and we had a great time at the outdoor patio! The food was as great as always. They haven't missed a beat during the pandemic. We ordered fish & chips, buffalo chicken Mac & Cheese, and Steak & Cheese egg rolls, and everything was as tasty as we remember it! Went in last night for dinner. It was busy but got seated right away. While we were literally next to the kitchen door and where the wait staff had their kiosk we rolled with the very active spot because we didn't have to wait to sit. We did have to wait for everything else. We had to wait for drinks including water . We had to ask for silverware. Our server literally turned away from us when at the kiosk every time. After 35 plus minutes for food there was a level of frustration but figured it's busy not the end of the world. While we sat waiting for service we had to sway away fruit flies. Dinner came out cold. Fried fish tacos and steak tip entrees were not hot. My date was starving so she ate. But it took our server walking away for the countless time for me to get her attention. Not once did she mention the food was coming sorry for the wait. And avoided asking how it was. So when I finally said excuse me my dinner is cold she looked at the plate and walked away to the bar. Said NOTHING. Now we figured out she went to a manager Who came over and to her credit took both meals off and one of the beers I would have been fine with the apology and taking just my meal off. She offered a replacement. I told her we had plans and couldn't wait for a meal any longer. We had to ask the server to bring the bill because we had plans that we needed to leave for. The bill ended up only being 5 bucks and change. I placed a $20 in the folding tab and watched her walk away again. Nearly 10 more minutes passes she returns and asks if I want change. Now to be fair I was definitely annoyed at her customer service skills. Had she just said I'm sorry your meal was not up to expectations let me get your change so you can go I would have told her to just keep it out of good karma. This place is very much a pro-police establishment w/ all their blue lives matter flags which is stupid as all hell (& actually insulting) since people aren't blue. Had there been another place to go on a holiday- we would have- but options were very limited. Okay so first thing is the GOOD: Mark the bartender is a dream. An A+ conversationalist and human. Now let's talk about the BAD! Disastrous waitress named Leah. I walk in with my parents and brothers on an evening with a Celtics and Bruins game going on around 6 pm. I haven't entered the doorway for more than two seconds and this woman bombs over and screams in my face about how outside drinks aren't allowed. After attending my brother's local baseball game, I had about an inch of iced coffee left to drink. Wide-eyed, I finished my sip and threw away said drink. Two hours later a table finally opens. It's technically a high top for 4, and the hostess advises us that we cannot take an extra seat from the bar but we can pull one from another table to add onto the end. Keep in mind the tables are pretty full but it is by no means packed. I do grab a chair from another high top who did not need it and am sitting on the end (much like a gentleman in the table next to us - photo attached with his face blurred because this sure as hell wasn't his fault). My same girl bombs over and proceeds to shout at me again. I understand there are rules to keep things in line, but you use judgement. As a waitress for many years, I understand it to be a key skill. This unfortunately was totally not present in this woman who took every chance to be unkind. Only issue was towards when my girlfriend asked to pack her salad up with the dress that came with her meal. It was hard as a rock in 3 minutes anyway I take a sip of my sprite and it was flat sierra mist so I asked my waitress. What is this? I order a sprite he goes. Oh you can tell the difference,. oh my God ,.can someone tell this gentleman sierra Mist and sprite are two different sodas. My family and I always pass by Southside Tavern frequently and finally decided to give it a try on a Saturday night for dinner. We arrived around 5pm and was offered a table inside the tent. It was a party of 5 plus a baby and they tried to seat us at a 4 person table. There was no way we we were going to fit-- not to mention there were a ton of larger tables available. The host finally agreed and sat us down at a larger table. We waited about 10 minutes for our server to come by. Although she was friendly, she was extremely slow. It took 30 minutes for our drinks and a round of water to come out. We ordered our appetizers and entrees at once because we didn't want to wait any longer, like we did with our drinks. It took over 45-50 minutes for our entrees to come out. Other tables who sat down and order after us got their food before us. We ordered clam chowder, Buffalo chicken nachos, fried pickles, steak tips, bacon cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger calzone, and tortellini. The appetizers were all delicious and better than we anticipated. The Buffalo chicken was everyone's favorite! It was nicely spread all throughout the nacho chips and they gave a good portion of chicken as well. The fried pickles were yummy and their spicy sauce was unique. The steak tips were perfection and surprisingly came in a good portion with mashed potatoes and fries. The tortellini was eh, definitely won't be getting again. It tasted like store bought freezer tortellini. The bacon cheeseburger was super average. However their sweet potato fries that came as a side were delicious. The bacon cheeseburger calzone was interesting.. it was just about the same as the bacon cheeseburger but for some reason tasted better than the actual burger. We ordered 2 rounds of drinks-- 3 beers and 6 cocktails. The red sangria wasn't the best. Their white sangria and raz lime rickey were everyones favorites-- it was nice and refreshing and fruity, yet you can really taste the alcohol. Overall, this is an average place. Great for groups and to watch the game inside. If you go at night, I would try to get either indoor or outdoor seating that has the portable heaters. The tables inside the tents was freezing since they didn't have the portable heaters in there. The tent seating gave us summer fairs and summer bbq vibes, again--great for groups with friends. I would highly recommend their buffalo chicken nachos, steak tips, and summer white sangria! I wish the service was better. There should be no reason why we had to wait 30 minutes for drinks and nearly an hour our entrees without being checked up on. Plus, it was hard to distinguish who actually worked there since not a single employee had there name tags on. read more
