The service at this cafe was very friendly and the latte I got was very good (no burnt or too sweet but very flavorful). I spent a few hours here working and it seems to be fairly popular for folks in the area for coworking or taking a break. Cannot speak more highly about this place. When I came in, I introduced myself to the owners and they treated me like I was an honored guest. I saw them give the same treatment to other patrons. They were very helpful in getting me to choose from the menu. When they heard I came from out of town, they advised me to try the cro'gel (croissant bagel) that you only get in Maryland and recognizing my interest in different foods, recommended me the kouin amann. They also guides me through my matcha choice and advised on the best temperature for it. If I lived in the area, I would surely be a regular here! read more

I like small coffee shops, but there's way too many other ones around the area for me to return to this one again. I had 30 minutes to spare on a Sunday morning and just wanted one small drink to-go. After patiently waiting in line, ordering, and waiting on my drink, I knew I had to leave before I would get my drink (3 people were still ahead of me waiting on their drinks). I asked for a refund, but ended up having to wait even longer for that too as the one person behind the counter just resumed making more drinks after talking with me. On their menu they also have some interesting drinks that I haven't seen other places. Service was good. In a semi desperate search for coffee and a light breakfast option after an intense workout, I turned to yelp for a walkable nearby solution, and the new 5 star rated French Press popped up. French Press is a cute, clean, and modern coffee shop that also serves all sorts of french delicacies and pastries. The breakfast sandwiches are made to order, and are fresh and absolutely delicious-just make sure you specify if you want it served hot. The coffee options are equally as good. My vanilla almond milk latte was not overly sweet and had a perfect balance in favor and smoothness, and my friend enjoyed her matcha latte. The pastries were also good, but (perhaps personal preference) could have been served a bit warmer to give them a more softer, succulent taste and texture. Customer service was perfectly hospitable and attentive, and was a very personable experience. Seating is fine-with a few small round tables, one oblong wooden table, and counter seats available overlooking street view window. Overall, highly recommend trying out this new locally owned shop. pro tip-Street parking is available, but definitely walk for convenience. read more

Cute little coffee shop in downtown Bethesda with immaculate vibes. Good for studying with multiple small tables. Can't comment on the food, but the cappuccino I ordered was good, if extremely hot. I had to let it cool down for several minutes before being able to drink. I enjoyed the bar seating at the front which is perfect for solo relaxing and people watching. Service was quick and friendly. I'd like to go back and try some of their other beverages, but for the music and atmosphere alone I'll give it 5 stars. read more

Amazing coffee! I got a small latte (5.50) + vanilla flavor (1.50) and it was SO good!! It was not at all bitter, very smooth, and it didn't feel heavy after I drank it, even though I got it with whole milk like I usually do -- but I think other places add maybe more sugar and it sometimes makes me feel bad. I wish we lived closer to get the coffee more frequently. My husband got the red eye and said it had a slight blueberry taste but was also very good -- and very effective!! A great place for sandwiches. It was so good that we went back three separate times during our short trip to Bethesda.

Good: Coffee, customer service, ambiance Bad: Food, chai We got a flat white, iced chai latte, spinach quiche, and almond croissant. The flat white was good, but the chai latte was mediocre. The almond croissant tasted like it was a day or 2 old, and the quiche was inedible (even after heating and re-heating), so we ended up throwing it away. It's obvious that the food was not fresh, with the quiche being several days old at least. They said they got their pastries and quiche from Fresh Baguette, which is just down the road, so I'd recommend getting pastries or a quiche directly from there instead. I wanted to try a breakfast sandwich, but the only egg they have is hard boiled, which I'm not a fan of. Maybe their sandwiches would be better than what I had; however, my experience would make me weary of how fresh their ingredients are. The staff was friendly, and the seating area was decent. I liked the music and retro radio they have in the corner. I'd recommend this place if you want to hang out and grab a coffee or cafe drink, but I'd head elsewhere for food. read more

French press is such a cute spot to come and grab a delicious drink before you head to work or if you need a good space to get work done at, this is the place for you. I have been trying to support smaller coffee businesses and Bethesda is just making it too easy! The cafe is comfy, quiet enough to get work done without being distracted and the staff are so kind. Not sure if they're the owners as well, but I had an amazing start to my (late) morning. I will be here far more often and can't wait to continue to try their delicious menu! I will say that the food and drinks were great. Honestly tasted as good as the pictures online look. The decor on the inside isn't really existent. They go for a clean minimalist look and the pull it off. I do think it's a little over priced for what you're getting. We visited French Press on a Sunday morning, and it was mostly empty. Pop music played over the speakers during our visit. The decor is no-frills modern with black tables and chairs. We tried the everything bagel with cream cheese, an iced latte with caramel syrup, and a chocolate croissant. The bagel itself was slightly below average, and the helping of cream cheese was meager. The chocolate filling of the croissant was decent and the outside had good flakiness, but the inside was much too dense. The latte was pretty good however. Overall, the value is terrible for the price, and I would not recommend French Press. read more

Recently stopped in to grab some coffee! I got an iced vanilla oat milk latte and it's delicious. Not overly sweet and the right amount of vanilla. Owner is super nice and goes above and beyond for customer service. Asked me how many shots of espresso I wanted in and made sure that the oatmeal key was using was OK. The matcha latte was great, I regretted not getting a larger size. It was smooth, refreshing, and not too bitter, but a little on the watery side. I got tempted and ended up getting a danish, which hit the spot--the perfect crispiness with a touch of cinnamon. I've also heard their sandwiches are delicious. Really great little coffee joint. Seemingly family owned, this small little cafe is immaculately clean, fresh, has a decent Pastry and sandwich selection that is all made fresh. The coffee is nothing insanely crafty but it's all fresh, strong, flavorful, and not burnt/stale, even in iced. Staff is polite and stood ready to explain menu, ensure order, and bring food, napkins, and utensils to table. My only recommendation would be for them to get ad-free music. read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! I am completely blown away by how amazing this coffee shop is! What a hidden gem. I stumbled on this place having come to the area to do my homework. If I could give French Press 10 stars I would! The customer service was exceptional. The food selection was plentiful, I couldn't decide at first. I ended up getting the smoked salmon cream cheese bagel. It took quite a few minutes to prepare but oh boy was it worth the wait! I will definitely drive my hour commute to come back if not just for the breakfast sandwich. The only con I have was that I had to move my seat because the music up front was a little too loud.
