If I had a dollar for every time I've driven past Freeport Cafe... well, you get the idea. My husband had been on my case about trying it for breakfast, and I finally gave in. Turns out, this place is way better than I expected. I had it in my head that it was some kind of tourist trap because of the location, but nope. It actually gives off super local vibes, and the food was REALLY good. I think this might be in my top three for best food-to-price ratio in the greater Portland area (does Freeport even count as that?). My "dish" was $11.99 and came with two eggs, two sausage links, two hash browns, and a homemade biscuit. The only thing I didn't get two of was the biscuit, but it was huge, so I was actually relieved about that. I left stuffed. More importantly, everything was really yummy! The hash browns were crispy but not greasy, the eggs were cooked perfectly sunny-side up, and that homemade biscuit... I could've taken another one to-go. Make sure you ask for it grilled; you'll thank me later. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and his food was just as good. Also, they have dozens of mimosa flavors. I had the pineapple mimosa and it was phenomenal. Service was great, too. Our server was friendly and super attentive. The vibe inside reminded us of some of our favorite diners in Massachusetts; no frills, nothing fancy, just a classic diner feel. Exactly why we loved it.

This cafe was located right next to our hotel and was recommended by staff. We could walk there from our room. It was amazing! We happened to stop by for Father's Day and boy was it packed. The service was super fast and the food was great! My husband said the hollandaise sauce on his eggs Benedict was the best he's ever had. The sausage gravy was superb. The French toast was very delicious and the bacon was the best. The create your own omelet was huge and super fresh. Highly recommended. It came with your choice of bread and you could get a muffin!

We stumbled upon this cute place today while starting our vacation in Maine. We got there just in the Nick of time they were closing at two and it was 1:45. Also bonus they serve breakfast all day. I ordered the freeport special 2 eggs, hasbrowns, choice of meat and toast. All was very tasty. I'd stop there again if we get in the area.

Impressive cocktail menu, and notably one of the better non-alcoholic mocktail programs I've seen in the entire Greater Portland area. The crab dip was as every bit of sensational as I expected. Bread is always a good choice, but honestly, there's not enough for the dish. I think they could do something special with Ritz Crackers here to complement. We ordered the daily special, a beef brisket with celery root/potato mash and brisket filled ravioli with a truffle cream sauce. The ravioli was the winner here for me - I would bottle up that truffle cream sauce and sell it. I love that they kept a good portion of the original framework of the building - it adds to the romantic touch to the rustic interior. Open concept kitchen at the platform made it fun to peep into every once in awhile during dinner. Great for date night and special occasions.

We ordered the seafood combo basket with haddock, scallops, clams, shrimp, and onion rings, along with a lobster roll. The seafood combo was definitely generous in portion size--there was a lot of food--but unfortunately, quantity couldn't make up for the lack of quality. The haddock was dry and completely lacked flavor. The scallops were overcooked and tough, and the shrimp were tiny and tasted like frozen, pre-packaged shrimp. Even the onion rings were disappointing--they were overly greasy, and the batter had virtually no seasoning or flavor. The lobster roll was a decent size, but it also lacked the flavorful taste you'd expect. It wasn't terrible, but it certainly wasn't memorable or worth recommending. We spent over $90 for what turned out to be a less than mediocre lunch. The atmosphere didn't help either. The inside dining area was warm and uncomfortable. They have a beautiful rooftop deck with an amazing view, but there's no canopy or shade, making it difficult to enjoy on a sunny day. The metal stools become hot in the sun and have no backs, so they're uncomfortable to sit in for more than a few minutes. Overall, this place has a great location and beautiful views, but the food and dining experience simply didn't justify the price.
