While on vacation with my family, my husband and I decided to sneak out of our resort to try a restaurant across the street. The menu at Fred's looked fresh and appealing so it won out. We sat outside on a beautiful mild night next to the water. I'm going to have to say that this restaurant had great food, but my stellar experience comes from the impeccable service we received. Our two servers, Cruz and Mariano were perfection all night. At one point I even tried to pour myself more water and Mariano insisted to assist me with it. The host came by to check on the experience as well and made sure everything was going great. At one point, our chip dish napkin flew off the table and someone came out of nowhere like one of those ball boys at a tennis match to snatch it off the ground! The food was very good as well. We had the tuna tartare to start and the complimentary bread was very good. I had the tuna mignon as my main and my husband had the salmon. We both really enjoyed our dinners. Be warned of the chocolate cake! It can feed a family of 6 and we were not prepared to take that on! Overall, I wish more restaurants took on the exemplary service that Fred's provides.
Never have I given a 5 star rating when the food wasn't 5 stars (I'll get back to that). But the service was SO good at this restaurant, that I absolutely had to give it 5 stars. I even asked my husband what he thought it deserved, and he agreed overall experience and service that it deserved 5 stars. From the moment you enter the door you are treated with the utmost respect and courtesy. Greetings by multiple staff members (hostess, servers, management)...chairs being pulled out, napkins in your lap, stand for ladies' purses...they cover it all. The overall ambiance is warm and inviting...I can't believe I didn't take pics of the interior but it was very nice with beautiful accents hanging from the raptors. I even liked the linens which is weird bc...well they're linens. Ok so for the food, I thought the value was great and the taste was pretty good but just not mind blowing. I had the catch of the day which was grouper. It was cooked perfectly and with a pop of lemon was delicious. It was accompanied by grilled corn on the cob which wasn't my favorite. I like corn on the cob but this was just so so. It also had cooled and wasn't hot when I received it so that may also play into it along with the drizzle that was on it. My mom had the salmon which was also very good but she was disappointed with the portion size of her potatoes (appx 3 new potatoes). Again though, the food was good. I wish I had been hungry enough to try their steak options but just wasn't that hungry...so maybe next time. We celebrated my birthday and they brought me out this vanilla cake with cheesecake layers. That was delicious! I'm not even a sweets eater, but I would order this again. They had a nice sparkler in the cake and sang happy birthday to me. Cheesy but cute and I loved it. All in all, I would return here and give a few other options a try. I would recommend if in the area you try it out.
This is our second time at Fred's. We went here for our anniversary lunch. We had a couple of beers and an old fashioned. Crab cake and calamari for appetizers. The crab cake was delish. The calamari was good. For the main meal we had fish n chips and lobster roll. Both were good. They give you a lot of fish. It was good and flavorful. The lobster roll was also flavorful, slightly overcooked but was still enjoyable. The servers, Jorge and Leon, were very friendly and attentive. They brought us a cake and some coconut candies to celebrate our anniversary. This is a place we will visit again. We spent about $140 US including tip.
BEST RESTAURANT EVER! This was a truly remarkable experience and I must begin by thanking the Hostess, Annie, for providing us with an amazing table with a spectacular view, our waiter "Roger" for his outstanding attentive but non-intrusive service, and Danny, the wait staff manager, for coordinating a 35th Wedding Anniversary dinner that exceeded my expectations and hopes to duplicate our 25th that we spent at Fred's. Danny was able to recreate our cocktail experience from 2014 which set the tone for the evening: Fred's Mojito for my wife, and the Mojito Morajito for me. Both were made with fresh fruit & mint leaves, and premium liquor, as you would expect -Mango in one, and Blackberries in the other. Fred's two signature cocktails, which I highly recommend. Complimentary warm freshly baked sweet bread was then provided with a unique in-house butter that was not over filling. By the way, actually use the butter as it is well worth the work you'll have to put in to burn those extra calories! We both enjoyed Caribbean Lobster Bisque that was served in a huge bowl, with a generous portion of lobster meat medallions. This was absolutely amazing soup, and mirrored the 2014 offering by challenging us to have room for our entrées. We devoured, most of our magnificent generously proportioned entrées. She again had the grilled 14 oz. Caribbean Lobster Tail that was smothered in a delicious Adobo chili sauce. This was a perfectly prepared lobster; it was not at all rubbery as happens when lobster when it is overcooked, and this sauce was exceptionally well seasoned. I recreated my 2014 experience by having the rich and flavorful "THERMIDOR SUPREME" - 28 oz Lobster Thermidor - a Butter, mushrooms, Béchamel sauce topped with mozzarella flamed with brandy! GREAT DECISION! This dish was better than I recalled and truly spectacular! Again, perfectly prepared Lobster that was as decadent as I had recalled it being. This time we intentionally saved a little room for coffee/Cappuccino and their decadent desserts! We shared a Tiramisu "unveiled" table-side. OMG! What an incredible dessert! I have eaten Tiramisu in some of the best restaurants in the States and even in Italy, but none compares to this offering; You MUST try this version of Tiramisu! Though completely full, Danny and Roger surprised us with a complimentary vanilla cake served with its very own pyrotechnic fireworks display (LOL) for our anniversary along with two glasses of excellent rose brut champagne--nice touch that was very much appreciated. You could not have paid me to believe that our 2014 experience on our 25th Anniversary dinner at Fred's could ever be topped, but somehow Annie, Danny and Roger made the 35th Anniversary dinner even more memorable. Thank you, and I promise we will be back!
They were a bit snobby. We ordered the seafood platter, it was ok, the lobster and snow crab was overcooked. The oyster were dry and didn't have any brine. The bread that they give you complimentary was good. The guacamole was great, especially with chicharon. The service was good. The reason such low rating is because we booked through open table, and put in that it was our anniversary, when we arrived they even ask if we are celebrating anything special and we said our anniversary. When they said finish we said yes, no congratulations. If you have a celebration do not come here, also seafood platter not worth it.
The service here was lackluster and unstructured a lot of the evening. It took 15 mins before we were acknowledged. We tried to her advice on the wine and the servers couldn't give us any recommendations or advice and didn't understand what we were after. Then they brought wine over and the two bottles we ordered sat unopened on the table for awhile while we had to wait for a wine opener. So frustrating and just awkward. Like, just serve us please! Food took a long time to order. Then dishes came out at random times. It just was so sloppy for a place with relatively expensive dishes. Wouldn't recommend at all esp with much better spots in area...
My family and I stopped at Fred's after checking out of our resort at around noon on a Monday. And we are so happy with our choice! They have free valet parking out front (just for tips) and they take your car to an underground garage right below the restaurant. We felt comfortable leaving our luggage in the car as well. When you walk in the restaurant is very chic, and they have outside seating along the water. We opted to sit outside. The service was amazing and they met our every need immediately! They also took my dad's shellfish and my dairy allergy very seriously and worked around these issues. And the food was delicious! The coconut shrimps were huge, and the burger was so big with delicious fries on the side. My favorite part was the ceviche, which was very refreshing on a hot day!
Really loved the ambiance at Fred's! The ceviche that is made is really fresh. I had the flamed crispy coconut shrimp. They prepare the sauce for the shrimp in front of you and literally use fire flames to do so. Inside the coconut, they have a few fresh cut vegetables that are meant to be eaten with the shrimp. The restaurant is a bit more on the pricier side, but is nice to go for special occasions and the service here was outstanding and very quick! They gave us an appetizer on the house and also coconut candy at the end.
Really great restaurant and a perfect dinner for our last night. After all the crazy loud restaurants we had been to the first couple of nights, this was a welcome reprieve. The grilled octopus was great and we really liked the caribbean ceviche. For the entree I had the chili flake encrusted fish and my wife had the lobster thermidor. They were both pretty good, but I really liked my fish. The sauce was not too spicy, but had a little bit of a kick. So much flavor in that sauce. Wait staff was really great, super attentive and nice.

Fred's was our favorite restaurant in Cancun! The staff was outstanding and the food was five star quality. I recommend the seafood!!! Too many delicious entrees to pick just one, but the Lobster and Shrimp were awesome. Hector, Orlando and Alex made us feel so special. They were funny, attentive and great at their craft. Edgar was so nice and helpful. While having dinner I noticed one of the cute glasses that a cocktail was served in. He helped me find it online. Food was so tasty and fresh. read more

After eating all inclusive food for a few days, Fred's was an amazing treat! We did not have a reservation and were seated, but Fred's seems to be very popular (rightfully so) so I would personally recommend making a reservation and requesting to sit outside if you can! I must say, from start to finish this was an amazing dining experience. The staff was so professional and didn't miss a beat. I can't say enough about the service!!! That's how good it was. Seriously. To match the service, the drinks and food were just as spectacular. Drinks we tried: Fred's Mojito and Fred's Martini. Both very good! Mojito is more sweet if you are into that and the Martini is more strong. The Martini has jalapeño in it - which gave it a nice kick! (It's not that spicy at all- so don't shy away from getting the martini because of the jalapeño) Food: We had 6, east coast oysters for a starter. WOW! What a production. A whole selection of hot sauces were brought out, limes, lemons, special sauces, you name it! So, so good! Complimentary bread was also brought out with different sauces and butter. For our main meal we shared the "Surf and Surf" (recommended for two FYI) with Lobster Tail and Alaskan King Crab Legs. O M G! No lie- my boyfriend and I agreed this was the best lobster and crab legs we've ever head. The two didn't even need the sauces/butter provided because it was that good. Melt in your mouth good. The dish came with mixed veggies and we ordered a baked potato on the side for a little extra- but you honestly didn't even need it because the dish was so filling. They had many dessert options, we did not personally have any. To wrap things up, this was a top notch experience. You definitely won't want to miss an opportunity to go to Fred's! read more

Paola the manager made us feel welcomed and ensured our experience was perfect.. we went back the next day and were treated even better if that was even possible.. .I give this place 4 stars very well worth it. Be aware. Not worth the money. We spent 4000 pesos and walked out with hungry stomachs. It took them forever to have someone taking our order and more than 30mins to get food out the table. The food tastes just ok, nothing to wow even for our family who were starving after a long travel day. Very small portions. They added the tip automatically and used the eraser pen to cover the "tip included " line on the bill. My son flipped the check over and found out. read more

Is there a better restaurant in all of Cancun? During a recent work trip, I was advised to have dinner at Fred's. The view of sunsets over the lagoon, the myriad of menu options, the delicious ceviche and tuna tostadas, but, most of all, the warm and friendly treatment. Paola and Michelle, two of the professionals who care for the restaurant's customers, made me feel completely welcomed. There's a reason why I visited Fred's more than once. Five stars. read more

If you are looking for a more relaxing atmosphere with good service and good food this is the place to go. By far, this place has the best service level of places we visited in Cancun - the management visited our table several times to ensure everything was going well and personally handled any drinks orders when the waiter was busy. Food was delicious. When you just sit down, they will bring over a large platter of raw bar options - including king crab, oysters, clams, and shrimp. We decided against the seafood platter and we were happy with the decision as we got to try out a lot more specially Mexican fare compared to the traditional oysters or crab. The seafood soup is very very good for those who like a stew with a lot of fresh seafood. The more traditional crab soup is also very good. We ordered a couple main entrees which all turned out great. One of the crab lasagna that was really good and had tons of fresh crab. Another was a whole grilled fish, that was really good as well. Lastly we got an tequila shrimp which I would highly recommend, the waiter makes it right there in front of you. Overall recommend this restaurant. Great food and service Fred's! read more

We had a truly spectacular dinner here last night. Seven of us came directly from a tour to Tulum and some Cenotes. Truthfully, we were dirty, had a bunch of stuff. Probably not how most patrons look. The service was amazing. They gave us a beautiful table overlooking the water. Our waiter was amazing. The food was excellent quality and the drinks even better. We joked about coming to Cancun just to eat at Fred's. Thank you for a wonderful night. read more

Dinner with my daughters. Birthday and early Easter holiday. This place is to die for. If you LOVE seafood, this is your place. The tastes of the chilis, the sauces, the fruit, the added extras like the purse rack, the limes that are the most fragrant ever. It's so fresh. We had oysters, stone crab, grouper and fish tacos. The Fred's mojito is very good. The crab legs are ginormous, as are the prawns. I LOVE seafood. This is my new favorite restaurant. Sad it's so far from home. O Our waiter's name was Julio, he and his assistants were great. read more

We had a lovely evening in this seafood restaurant across the street from the JW Marriott and Casa Magna Marriott in Cancun & walking distance from the Ritz Carlton. We started the evening with the bartender's suggestion...Fred's Martini....just a touch of spicy served with a red chile pepper. The chef started us with a tasty tiny cup of soup and some toasted tortillas with two dipping sauces. We had a great octopus appetizer ...recommended by our waiter. For the entrees, my husband enjoyed grilled salmon, and I had 7 delightfully seasoned and grilled jumbo shrimp. We also enjoyed a jelote corn side dish. The chef gave us a complimentary dessert that tasted like sorbet with a fruity liqueur, that was a great ending. Our table on the water of the lagoon was lovely, as we enjoyed a golden Cancun sunset! Fred's staff was very attentive and helpful...excellent service! read more

This is an awesome location for all sorts of seafood! They've got local Stone crab, lobster, shrimp, grouper, and all other sorts of absolutely well prepared deliciousness. The service is uniformly excellent! The drinks are tasty and fresh. This place was a quick walk from where we are staying, but I would definitely make a trip to come here for an outstanding seafood evening! We arrived after sunset, but the play should have awesome views of the sunset. Paola, Jose, & Jorge took great care of us!! read more

Hands down the best place to get Oysters in Cancun. We came here just for the oysters (they have 4 types) and ended up with: - the very best homemade bread, the my bake it in 3 flavors, regular, onion and jalapeño. - calamari the size of onion rings - hamachi serves on a cold stone (amazing!!!!!) - clam chowder - side salad - the Iceberg dessert! (Cold cream with strawberries, yum) Not to mention the VERY best staff. I'm so impressed with their friendliness, their attentiveness (I mentioned I was tired and he brought me a red bull) and their service (fast, hot and delicious). Best dining experience I've had anywhere in world thus far. Eaten across Europe and North America. Something about the well trained staff, private outdoor areas, view, ambiance and cuisine makes this one of my favorite restaurants hands down. Staff is amazing and obviously well trained. I'd give 3.5 stars. Fred's has a nice atmosphere, and if you go around supper time, you may catch beautiful views of sunset. In terms of food, complimentary chips that came with sauces were good. Arrachera tacos were amazing; it was one of better tacos I've had during this trip. Seafood fettuccine looked really good but shrimps were tough, almost rubbery. I don't think they did a good job of handling mussels, because I bit into some small pieces of shells in the pasta. I didn't like their complimentary dessert, some egg thing. Service was friendly but a waiter didn't understand our request due to language barrier and didn't follow through. read more

What a beautiful restaurant...very classy and elegant. The staff was very nice and the service was great. I tried the Octopus with Adobado seasoning....it was really good...but my husband ordered the Shrimp with Adobado seasoning and it was Amazing! Even though this place was very expensive, the food here was absolutely FANTASTIC!! We were recommended this place by the concierge at our hotel. Thank God we went!! It has been the best dinner at Cancún so far. The staff is all extremely attentive and very very nice! Most everyone there spoke English very well so that was also a plus. I loved the mojitos, both were excellent! We had a mandarin mojito and a coconut mojito. Very flavorful! For appetizers, we had the guacamole dip. That would be the one thing I didn't like that much. It was a very liquid based guacamole and I prefer thick chunky guacamole. I did however like the red chile sauce that also went with the guacamole. For dinner I had rhe mussels with the mixed vegetables. I loved the mixed vegetables!!! The portions were much larger than I thought they would be but the vegetables were absolutely delicious! They had amazing light oil and seasoning. The mussels were extremely good too! I got a great portion and I just love mussels in general. The sauce was nice to try and it was more liquid based than I thought it would be, but it was still good. I could definitely taste the tequila! My friend got the grilled tuna. It was wonderful how the waiter asked her to check the meat and make sure she liked how it was cooked. We sent it back without a problem to get it cooked a little more and then it was perfect. The portion again was fantastic and bigger than what we expected! For desert, we shared a dulce leche souffle. It takes 15 minutes to prepare but it was DEFINITELY worth it! One of the best deserts I've had! It wasn't too sweet and it wasn't too soupy or dry. It was fantastic! All in all it is a fantastic place and we will definitely be going back! The prices are definitely worth it! At the end of the night they give out free shaved ice with condensed milk as a thank you for coming. It was also fantastic! (Also helps make me want to come back! The service and the view is really good. The stars only giving for the friendly services. However, the seafood is so not fresh. The lobster and octopus tastes like frozen. The steak tastes weird too because of the sauce. The seafood here was definitely not as fresh as the seafoods they showed you. Their food just doesn't deserve the high price. Won't come back again. read more
Just stepping foot into this place you know it's going to be five stars. Warmly greeted and beautiful decor with an inviting but intimate feel. Service was perfect. Seafood offerings were brought to the table and looked beautiful. Table cleared quickly and set for next course. Complimentary olive bread with five dipping sauces and truffle butter. Started with the Fred's salad. Lightly dressed so the goat cheese balls really stood out. Then moved to the scallop risotto and stuffed chicken. The risotto was cooked perfect. I would've liked more scallops but was satisfied. The stuffed chicken was juicy and tender. The sauce is heavy in the cloves. I liked it but if you don't like cloves don't get it. Mashed potatoes are creamy and smooth with little chunks of potato. We finished with the fried bananas served with ice cream. They mimicked churros. Very cute and very good. Served with raspberry sauce, caramel sauce and vanilla sauce. Now for drinks. Incredible selection and very interesting. Wine, beer and cocktails. I just wanted gin and seltzer. The waiter came to the table with a glass of ice. He then poured the Hendricks right in my glass and topped it with seltzer. Way to know you aren't getting ripped off! Last note. We were staying across the street. Maybe half a mile away. We were over halfway there and heard someone. Turned around to see the server behind us. Our daughter left a toy and he ran to bring it back. Now that's incredible! read more

Wow. What a wonderful meal! Our experience at Fred's House was flawless. The service we received from Lala, Paola, and Xavier was first class. The food was out of this world. Every course was better than the last. The meal began with olive bread and five dipping sauces: butter, guacamole, and three spicy sauces including the spiciest ever - habanero. Then we had a wonderful Caesar salad made table side. Then I had the best piece of fish I ever had -- the black cod. It melted in my mouth, was perfectly seasoned. It was simply perfect. My wife had the tequila shrimp cooked table side and she loved it. I had two tasty martinis - the chocolate and the whites chocolate cake. Both were excellent. And the meal ended with an apple dessert with ice cream. It was unbelievably good. One of the best desserts we've ever had. 5 stars is not enough. read more
