Fratellos gets my vote for being a totally solid place. The location for a summer day can't be beat: on a dead end road with a patio overlooking the Fox River. The food is better than average and the prices are extremely reasonable. My favorite dish is the Sesame Ahi BBQ Pizza which I'm sure they didn't invent, but it is excellent. The menu overall reflects the creativity that has come to define many higher-end restaurants, but Fratellos brings it home to Appleton. In sum, Fratellos is a great place, if not a little formulaic. Not that the formula is bad, because it isn't, but the 5th star is reserved for true, authentic originality. read more

Decided to have a drink at the bar and enjoy the view with my bestie. Asked the bartender which Sauvignon Blanc he would recommend to which he decided to ask me what I was looking for...umm I just asked you what you recommended? The entire bar staff (except a female bartender) ignored us for the remainder of the evening. When I say that I mean we sat there for 2 hours and weren't even offered a dinner menu! He did find time to sit at the other end and watch the baseball game and chat with what seemed to be the regulars. I complained to the manager. I didn't want anything free, just wanted her to know how crappy we were treated and apparently by talking to those around us we weren't the only ones who felt the same! NEVER AGAIN! read more

Wonderful experience . . . Taken by the stylish renovation of an old warehouse, the ambience was a beautiful mix of vintage commercial with some trendy flair. Upon our servers recommendations, we tried the pan seared sea scallops and the walleye and both were exceptional - delicious flavor with perfect portions. My gf and I were in the mood for a good meal during our overnight trip to Appleton. Hands down this restaurant delivered one of the best meals we have had in a while, even better then places we frequent in Chicago. My gf had the shrimp scampi ravioli with perfectly cooked broccoli and mushrooms on top. I had the bruschetta chicken with pesto infused risotto that melted in my mouth with each bite. We split a bottle of Pinot noir and the monthly cupcake which was a margarita flavored cake with a key lime frosting. Excellent Bam Bam Shrimp for an appetizer, Scallops and Ahi Tuna for entrees which were both delicious and wait staff that was there for everything we needed but didn't hover. The most attractive feature of this restaurant is its location on the Fox River. I ordered the grilled cheese, which was good, but the fries were a bit cold and soggy. My father' mashed potatoes were ice cold and his salad was a owl of brown iceberg lettuce. My mother ordered the ribeye to be served medium, but it came out with a cold center. The cut was supposed to be a ribeye, but we strongly suspect it was a top sirloin. It was tough, dry and tasted of propane. The dessert was a delicious berry crisp, but it was served so hot that it burned my mouth. Our waiter was charming, but I don't think he realized that we didn't like our food despite sending it back. The Fox River Beer on tap was fantastic, particularly the Buzzing' Honey. Probably a nice place to go get drinks and sit on the river, but I wouldn't recommend spending a fortune on their food. read more

However, it is affordable for being an upscale restaurant (my bill was $80 for 3 people, two had wine and we all had desert). I had the chicken and broccoli alfredo, which was very good, just a little saucy. Another person in my group had the crunch chicken tenders (it's listed as an appetizer, but it looked like a lot of people were ordering it as a meal -- seemed pretty popular), which was amazing. The servers were nice - ours seemed a little pissed that we sat in her section w/o being seated... but she got over it quickly and was really friendly after that. Came again for Restaurant Week; for apps the salad was good, the flatbread was OK; for dinner the scallops were good, the pheasant was dry; for dessert the sorbet was delicious (but why the salted glass? Almost ruined the dish) and the pumpkin cupcake was terrible... It was like a bad, dense, dry, gluten free bread with frosting. Again, terrible. And finally, our service was lacking; Ryan was polite but served us the next course before we finished the one in front of us. We had received our wine, apps, dinner and desserts within 45 min and we weren't eating fast. Felt like we were being pushed out the door and the place was quiet. Our first visit to Fratello's Riverfront Restaurant in Appleton, however we have visited their other location in Oshkosh many times. The spring time, bustling Fox River brought us to the riverfront this evening and Fratello's is the perfect place to enjoy the beauty. We asked our waiter, bartender how long this Fratello's had been on the river front, it was his 3rd day, and 1st day bartending so we found the answer together - 10 years. He was helpful and courteous and made our visit comfortable. A glass of cabernet for her and a Wisconsin staple - an Old Fashioned for me - both perfectly served at the window counter so we could watch the racing Fox RIver smash into the lonely concrete pylons in the middle of the river. We shared a order of crispy calamari and a bowl of the famous white chicken chili - delicious. Make sure you try the white chicken chili when you visit Fratello's - I believe you'll love it. I just enjoyed one of the best meals that I have ever eaten! Pan seared scallops with mushrooms, asparagus and potatoes sautéed and served in a delicious cream sauce. WOW! Cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned. Add a beautiful backdrop of a rushing River and it just doesn't get any better. We had been there few times, like many other reviewer said, you are paying money for view. Waitress lady is always in hurry, she stuff multiple dish on top of my soup dish, and take them a way, soup spilled and dripping, same as drink. she slime drink like she doesn't care. You can only continue business like this, because It's Appleton. Hubby and I frequent Fratello's for date night. It is always reliably good food with great service. The staff here is amazing and professional- always. I don't know what shift in the universe occurs with lunch here, but for whatever reason, it is a different place. Food is dismal. Servers are still adequate, but seem to be more interested in chatting up staff than anything else. Also, if you're looking for a lunch "bargain", you won't find it. We recently ate here with friends because of the good rating and comments. We were not impressed. We ate outside and enjoyed the view but our service and meal were average. We ordered an appetizer, 2 dinner salads, 2 dinners with side salads and drinks. Our drinks came out fine. We waited quite awhile for our meals Our dinners arrived without our appetizer. So we canceled that. Neither side salad made it out before our meals. Our dinner salads were small with a small piece of steak and the Romaine leaves didn't have the root end cut off (yuck) we asked for more salad dressing the same time we asked for our side salads since those were not brought out before our dinner. The side salads came out but the extra dressing was forgotten and a 2nd trip had to be made all the way back inside and out again. Someone who appeared to be a manager was talking for awhile to the next table. They appeared to be friends. He never stopped by our table to ask if everything was ok. During dinner, the waitress came by to refill our water glasses but mistakenly added water to my wife's drink. We have eaten at three good restaurants the last 3 evenings. Fratello's is far and away the best. We come to EAA airshow every two years. This is the first time we've stayed in Appleton and this is where we will be staying every time in the future. This restaurant is awesome totally worth five stars. We will definitely be back. We were very disappointed in our brunch at Fratellos. I ordered the Spanish Tortilla and my husband had the Seafood omelette. Both dishes were very skimpy, we like small plates but this was ridiculous considering the prices. The service was good, the building is interesting and the site is picturesque. Terrible food! I can't believe the prices for what we got! $15 for some cheap lettuce and a crab cake?! (I got the Cobb crab cake salad.) It only came with 1 hard boiled egg, a dry crab cake and romaine lettuce.. no aoli sauce, nothing ...it was completely flavorless!! How bout tossing in some avocado or carrots or something?! Crooks!! My husband got the maltagliati pasta with shrimp and he was extremely disappointed. they used artichokes that were soaked in vinegar, who could eat that?! Loved the location, but I was not impressed with the Service or Food. We all asked for coffee when we first got there, 10 minutes later, the server bought the coffee on a tray, set the tray by our table and proceeded to take bills and wait on other table, 5 minutes later she came back to give us our coffee which at that time were cold. She had an attitude, not rude but not polite. Food was so so, I had a seafood PoBoy. If they want to know what a PoBoy is they should look it up because this was seafood salad on a bun. My husband had an omelet but it look more like a two egg omelet vs a 3 egg omelet. read more
