Let's start with the service. Typically at a sit-down restaurant patrons are greeted by their server. Last night's server looked like she had just rolled out of bed after a long day of sleeping. Her look was a mess, her black clothes showed off a number of stains and wrinkles; she pretty much scowled at us as she went right to taking our drink order. First she had to remind us that if we wanted a glass of wine she would have to get somebody else because she is not 21. She never smiled at us once. She never asked us how our dinner tasted. When we asked for a desert menu we received a bill instead. These are just a brief summary of the low-lights... The food. I always thought a good marinara sauce tasted of onions, garlic, fennel, basil and oregano! Not at Fratelli, the sauce was a pretty boring tomato, just tomato. We also ordered fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp....I have never tasted a burnt alfredo sauce before and I hope I never do again. The shrimp was obviously pre-cooked and then re-heated, it was pretty bad. There are more details which I will leave out, we were honestly so excited to try this restaurant after reading all the positive reviews, it was sad how bad the service and the food turned out to be. I sincerely hope we just got them on a bad night and I really hope they train that young waitress, she was awful. read more

We loved visiting the (new to us) location. The quality is great. The service was good. The food was really good. We ordered a couple pasta dishes and all were good. It was nice that soup or salad was included. My husband LOVED the Caesar. The sausage and veggie soup was very flavorful. It did appear to be separated, but still tasted great. Dinner salads were decent, entrees of carbonara, spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna weren't hot when delivered to the table and collectively, the flavor was a notch below mediocre. read more

We were only in Utah for one day, so it was hard picking which restaurant we would visit. I think we made a good choice. There is no outdoor seating (although that wasn't an issue for us, since it was January). We had a large party but were able to get same-day reservations. The size of our party also allowed us to try many different dishes. Everybody liked their food. It was high-quality Italian food. The menu is full of unique choices, but even the common Italian dishes came out in a better than average, exclusive way. I am not a big fan of steak, but the steak here was very good. I'm always looking for good Italian food, having lived in Italy and spent a lot of time there. Lots of people have talked up Fratelli's, so I stopped in for a lunch. First, the pros: the hostess and server were attentive and professional. Now for the cons. The first thing brought out when you sit down is a roll. The roll was over cooked and tasted burnt. I didn't say anything about mine, but the ladies that were seated across from me asked for different rolls. A second roll that came out with the pasta was also over cooked. I asked for a side Caesar salad with my meal, and the homemade croutons (they appear to be made from the rolls) were burned black on one side (spoiler alert: that salad was the best and most edible thing I had). Accidents happen in kitchens, but they should not be served. I ordered tagliatelle arrabiata with chicken, generally a thick, hearty, spicy red sauce. The tagliatelle was fettuccini, and cooked short of al dente. The sauce was a disaster. Thin and watery, too acidic, and totally bland. It needed garlic, maybe some oregano, red pepper flakes for the promised spice, and a pat of butter or a couple of TBS of sugar to balance out the acidity. It tasted like tomato sauce straight from a tin, no flavor AT ALL. The chicken was the same - not even cooked with salt and pepper. I had to salt and pepper the pasta to make it even remotely palatable, and no one should ever have to add salt or pepper to a decent red sauce. The offered Parmesan when the pasta came out was straight out of a Costco container - those hard shreds that are covered with a lot of preservatives so they don't clump together. It is NOT hard to shred or grate some fresh parm, and you don't even have to buy the top of the line cheese for it to taste good when freshly shredded. I couldn't even get through 10 bites of this plate. I guess I could have ordered a sandwich or pizza as people on Yelp seem to like those, but a basic pasta should be the crown jewel of any Italian restaurant. It was so disappointing, not to mention that this lunch cost me $20. I could have had better food at Noodles and Company, and that's a sad thing. I can only attribute the glowing reviews on Yelp for this restaurant to the deplorable American palate. read more

I'm really mad at myself for not discovering this place sooner. We got takeout for my husband's birthday and it was the most delicious pasta, pizza and desserts we have eaten in awhile. The takeout process was easy and safe. The food was to die for. I got the Fratelli Pizza and I am dreaming about getting it again this weekend. Plenty of parking. Our reservation was spot on with no wait time. Service was very prompt, courteous, and accurate. Even with some thirsty customers our water glasses were never empty. Extremely large portions of piping hot, and amazing, food was served in an appropriate time. (The portions would easily feed two hungry people). All of the deserts looked good. We went with gelato that didn't disappoint anyone. The only downside was an employee who was very loud. So loud, at first I thought he was using a megaphone. Thankfully he returned to the north side of the restaurant to the silent cheers of at least four diners. Overall a great experience. We will return. read more

I won't go back ever. I ordered chicken Parmesan, and the chicken I received was burned to the point of being entirely black on the bottom. A dining companion ordered the same thing and his was fine, so I asked for a replacement. Then I watched the rest of my party eat dinner for nearly 30 minutes without ever receiving my food, so I asked that my order be cancelled. I didn't want to eat by myself. It's one thing for a restaurant to deliver a bad meal occasionally and quite another for it to do essentially nothing to rectify the situation. Inedible food and poor service? Way too much dressing on the salad, I requested "no tomatoes" on the panini-had to have it re-done without the tomato as I'm allergic. Got the remade one and the bottom bun was wet, top warm, turkey COLD. Not quite what comes to mind when you read "panini". I doubt I'll return. Went once before and I didn't care for the breaded chicken which was not indicated on the menu that it was breaded. There were not many customers there at 1:00 which should have been an indicator to me. I do not recommend them. read more

We were on our way from Colorado to Reno and we found this great restaurant in Sandy Utah and stopped by for a late lunch. The restaurant is inviting and they have a deli, coffee bar along with gelato attached to the restaurant. We ate in the restaurant side. My husband had the halibut special which is one of the best he has ever had. I had the homemade sweet potato gnocchi with cream sauce which was excellent. They have an extensive wine menu. I typically don't write reviews unless I enjoy the food and experience, but the food was so appalling that I would be remiss if I didn't share. To be fair, our first course, some shared pizzas and house salad was fine (thus earning the 2 stars). Nothing to write home about, but on par with the Olive Garden. The main course is where disaster struck. My mom ordered the clam linguine, which was more like clam soup with pasta. My brother & I ordered the carbonara, and they only had enough bucatini and pancetta for one order, so mine was carbonara with chicken. The noodles were undercooked ( and not in an ideal Al denté fashion), and bathing in raw egg mixture. The cheese was clumped, and the overall dish was vastly under seasoned. I will eat almost anything and this pushed past my limits of acceptable sustenance. My sister got the veal, which was accompanied by under cooked, crunchy, mushrooms and carrots. And the piéce de resistance was the eggshell we found in the carbonara. My father grew up in Italy and we are a family of foodies. We enjoy trying and supporting local restaurants, but I'd highly recommend that this restaurant revise their vision and execution, it's just not working. read more

This place is awful, to start hours never the same, I had a server named Alex, who was absolutely awful, rude, and inconsiderate, didn't care to answer any of my questions, and proceeded to hit on my wife numerous times. But wait it gets better after ordering pizza and heading to the restroom a cook name Edwin started to talk to me while I was washing my hands and drying them he finished using the restroom and held the door open for me as he followed me out without even a drop of water, touching his hands, come to find out Edwin makes the pizzas used to eat here almost biweekly I can't imagine ever going again with that service read more

Wine list was good, too. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, included veal Marsala, Eggplant parmesan, and a pizza. A couple of odd points were we were served with paper napkins while everyone else had linen. And the lemon thyme carrots kind of suffered as they they were just made from what was likely just the kind of baby carrots you'd snack on. I tried Fratelli again after a few years away due to a lousy wait experience at the quarry bend location. We were delighted with a great evening in November at the new local. I did have to fetch myself more water at one point and brought myself back a pitcher. We went back a few weeks ago with kids and had another good experience. Order the chef special!! Ask what is and seriously...try it! Even if it sounds exotic or the last thing from your appetite. There is a reason it's on the board. It's likely because it's a work of art. I never order fish. I ordered the special which was a something, yadayada Halibut in a creamy something or another sauce. My family ordered from the menu. Everyone was blown away by the special I got. Me too!! When you arrive, walk over and check out the gelato selection and make a choice for an after dinner take home snack. Spicy chocolate is amazing. So is the strawberry and pistachio.
