None of it evokes the warmth you'd expect from a pasta-forward Italian concept. For a place marketing itself on authenticity and craft, the setting works against it. The food was decent but didn't justify the price point. The Gnocchi alla Vodka with added burrata was the highlight, tasty, though not remarkable. The Don Basta Focaccia was good, but the balsamic drizzle was almost symbolic, a few drops where a generous pour was called for. Same note on the portion sizes overall: for what you pay, you expect more. Not in a rush to go back, but if they addressed the atmosphere and leaned into the generosity their concept promises, it could be a different story.

Replacing cutlery, dishes, water, etc. was all standard practice and I don't think I remember asking for anything regarding that, which was nice. Caesar salad came with a fresh presentation. Neat, but a little too sour/salty for my liking, 7/10. Calamari was also a little too over-seasoned to my liking (lots of salt or herby powder), but the sauces and taste were good, 8.5/10. There was a meatball I tried and that was a very good meatball with sauce, 9/10. Carbonara was also a bit salty and heavy but hey, it's pork fat, egg yolk, cheese, and starchy salty water. Assuming they didn't cheat with cream, it was a smooth carbonara by carbonara standards. 8.5/10 and could be 9.5/10 if it was a little less salty. The food here was fantastic. A nice seafood flair to Italian fare, but not so much that guests in your party that don't want seafood pasta have nothing else from which to choose. Shouldn't have been surprised by that as "vongole" is Italian for "clams". I also love the small intimate space. Very romantic setting and quiet and peaceful enough to have an actual conversation across the table, (as opposed to the concert level raves too many restaurant owners think that's what diners want). The service was fairly good as well, with a noteable exception that was severe enough to deduct an entire star. We had brought a bottle of wine, as my followers, no doubt, wouldn't expect any less of me. Corkage fee was very reasonable, btw. This was a very old bottle (1982 Barolo, Cannubi vineyard for those keeping score at home) and often with wines this old the cork can get soft and be tricky. Anticipating this, I brought a Durand (a specialized corkscrew specifically for this situation). I warned the server the wine was very old and I had the implement and offered to help her if she wasn't familiar with operating it, as I didn't want my wine damaged from a broken cork. She indicated she was familiar with the Durand, but refused to use it, opting for a traditional corkscrew. Sure enough, as expected, the cork was soft and began breaking in half in the neck. Instead of defering to my original offer she took the whole bottle in the back out of sight. (Note of wine etiquette: Once a bottle is inpsected by the customer, it should NEVER leave sight of the table!) The bottle had dissapeared for far too long, presumably to ask someone more skilled for help. When the wine returned it was in a decanter. Bravo for knowing a very old Barolo can benefit from decanting, but I suspect it was more likely the "expert" in the back made such a mess opening it that they had to filter the bits of cork out and were hiding their mistake. Then to top it off, we had to ask for our bottle back. (Note of wine etiquette: The bottle always belongs displayed on the table even when decanted!) I hate to be so critical, but serving wine is at least 50% the required skills of a good server in a great restaurant. Especially when the customer makes an obvious plea to help with a difficult situation it should be a clue how they value their bottle. If the wine had been ruined from the clumsiness it is doubtful the restaurant had anything close to replace it with as compensation. But, apart from the ranting over my biggest pet peeve of dining in Utah, the restaurant was otherwise very nice and we will definitely be returning again. P.S. the '82 Barolo was absolutely fan-freaking-tastic, in case you were wondering!
