Classic Eggs Benedict (hiding very burnt English muffins)
Wilfred L.

Recent trip to Frank's Diner was a miss. We visit Frank's Diner whenever we come into Spokane. The downtown location is just a stones throw from the airport and it's a great way to start your day. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and was disappointed by what I received. The two English muffins were badly burnt but you wouldn't know until you had to cut into them. They were pretty tough. I pushed through and ate them anyways. They do get busy and the wait time to be seated might take a while. I wished my meal was worth the wait. This time it wasn't.

I am so glad that I uncovered this place before returning to Spokane for another meeting. What a gem! From the staff and service to the amazing food everything about this place was wonderful. If I lived here, I would be a regular. It seems there's always a wait but they move people in and out very quickly. I was a single diner and sat at the counter. I had a huckleberry mimosa that was quite tasty. I followed that up with the fried green tomatoes and eggs. I will say I asked for my eggs over medium and they were very runny, but I overlooked that based on everything else and how wonderful it was. The guy at the counter beside me got the fried deviled eggs and they are sinful, he let me have half of one and it might be one of the best bites I've had this year. There is something for everyone on the menu. If you are visiting or live here, you must check it out. Enjoy

Conveniently located blocks from I-90 and downtown Spokane on 2nd Ave, Frank's Diner is the go to spot for scratch made breakfast, lunch and dinner. An icon of Spokane, nestled on the corner backed up against an active railroad this gem gives a nostalgic vibe from the minute you park. Service is great but the wait is quite long as it is a very popular place. Expect long wait times. Food is so yummy and your coffee cup does not run empty. Waite staff time of service runs decades long proving loyalty and pride in serving the public. This is a must!

Just visit Frank's Diner for the ambience, service, old world charm and for the love of locomotive The open kitchen and Victorian era styled booths add to the character, all one needs is to be dressed for the occasion. The food was fresh and delicious. You can see it's a favourite with the regular locals as well. The diner being inside a train bogie, the space is tight and compact.

This is a great diner. I have visited here a few times for breakfast, and every meal was outstanding. I love their omelettes.

Frank's Diner is Washington's oldest dining car restaurant (the railcar was manufactured in 1906 and converted into a diner in 1931) and was voted the best breakfast spot in Spokane by the local publication Inlander. While this Downtown location is the flagship diner, Frank's Diner also opened a second location in North Spokane. [Parking]: The diner has a designated parking lot and I had no issue finding an available spot at 6 PM on a weekday. [Atmosphere]: Upon entering, there is a sign stating that the diner serves "15 thousand eggs and 3 tons of hash browns per month." The railcar has a great retro vibe and visitors can choose between bar seating and table seating. [Menu]: Yelp's top recommended items include Eggs Benedict and Chicken-Fried Steak. Breakfast favorites are served with hashbrowns or fruit and a choice of toast. There is also no extra charge for adding gravy or grilled onions to your hashbrowns. Do yourself a favor and choose the hashbrowns and also ask to add gravy on hashbrowns. *** Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs (Half-pound crispy chicken fried steak with cream gravy and two eggs - sunny side, gravy on hashed brown, biscuit - $22.00): My waitress, Jenn, recommended the biscuit so I went with it. The hashbrowns were absolutely heavenly - crispy on the edges and moist on the inside. It was hands down one of the best hashbrowns I have ever had. The gravy was silky smooth. And holy crap the biscuit was a home run - ultra fluffy + amazing tasting jam (not overly sweet). The portion was so large that I had enough leftovers for the next day. *** It was an unexpected find in Spokane and absolutely S-tier for both food quality and service. In fact, I think the food here is better than many classic and upscale breakfast spots in Los Angeles. Absolutely a must-visit in Spokane.

I can see why Frank's Diner has been voted best breakfast for decades. The caboose set up right away will get your attention. The first thing that caught my eye on their menu was a Wyoming elk chop steak and eggs. Let me tell you I was not disappointed. The elk was very flavorful and had a kick to it. Very much enjoyed my meal. It is a popular spot so there might be a wait, but it's worth it. Great spot for a hardy breakfast in a caboose.

Listened to allll the hype and decided to make a quick pit stop in Spokane to eat a real meal mid road trip lol All the locals rec'd franks for breakfast/brunch and I now see why but here are my takeaways from breakfast 1) plenty of parking 2) busy asf lol. But they have tables + bar seating and will get ya seated asap 3) they could prob use one more server to assist w the load, but every worker was quick + efficient 4) food was schmackin' I ordered a boar bacon benny w hashbrowns -- killed it all in minutes, just throw some hot sauce over them thangss 5) fairly priced 6) unique setting lol

Found the location through Yelp and saw that it is basically an old train car. You walk in and there is counter which probably was a bar when it was a functioning train car. After the counter there are a few booths on both sides of an aisle. I sat at the counter and checked out the menu. I saw items that I never had so I went with the boar bacon, eggs, potatoes (with gravy and grilled onions), and biscuit. The bacon was very similar to what we typically eat but with less fat. The potatoes were really good though it was a lot. What I liked about the biscuit was that they cut it in half and grilled it. Yummy. I also purchased a bag of their pancake batter that is a recipe from 1886.

What a fun experience! A must in Spokane. This restaurant is inside of an old dining car and has been in business since 1931! The inside as shown in my picture is very charming and old timey. Allow time to wait for a table unless you are just one or two like I was and able to grab a seat at the bar. I was able to sit immediately. The staff is very amiable and the hostess made the recommendation that I try the Caprese Benedict, which had fried tomatoes in place of bread, fresh basil and blood orange balsamic drizzle. They offer the option of one or two Benedict, which is nice if you aren't super hungry. They also give the option to smother the hashbrowns and cheese, which I obviously opted into. The menu is absolutely massive though, so if Benedict's or even breakfast aren't your jam, you should be able to find something that suits your fancy. Also worth noting that they offer a very wide variety of gourmet flavors of house-made juices (7 or 8) for mimosas, like honeydew melon mint which I tried as a soda with soda water since I was driving.

Downtown diner that is an old rail car. This place is fun. Typical diner meals, open early and serves all meals. Staff was friendly and quick to refill my coffee each time I was about 3 to 4 sips in. Stopped by for breakfast. Enjoyed a bacon, egg, and hash brown dish. Bacon here is a thick cut and yumm! Great stop and will be sure to stop in again when in the area. Thank you Frank's.

An amazing restaurant!! The food, service and the restaurant itself we unique and awesome. I had the Creole Benedict. The small order was just right. Hubby had the country Benedict and he said it was very good. Our waitress Melissa was pleasant and friendly. In fact all the staff were great. If visiting Spokane, make sure you go

Frank's Diner is a classic no-frills breakfast spot set inside a vintage railcar, and it was hands down my favorite breakfast spot during my visit to Spokane. The crispy fried deviled eggs were incredibly unique and absolutely delicious--I could have easily ordered another round. The food was hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you want from a great diner breakfast. The staff was friendly, attentive, and quick, making the experience even better. This is one of those places that lives up to the hype, and I would definitely come back again on my next trip.

Ask the Community - Frank's Diner

Should you make reservations or is the wait not that long?

This place does not accept reservations. It's an old school diner where you show and hope there is no line. I went midweek and had to wait a few minutes but ended up sitting on the bar stool watching the cooks.

Is this place wheelchair accessible?

Yes... there is a wheelchair accessible ramp on the opposite end of main entrance.

Does this place have vegan options? If so, what kind?

No, this is meat and potatoes country.

Is the oatmeal sweetened?

I doubt it. you can sweeten it yourself.

We ordered the French omelette with steak, which came with wild mushrooms, and it was out of this world. The omelette was beautifully done, and the combination of the tender steak and earthy mushrooms was absolutely delicious. The empanadas were just as impressive--packed with flavor and another standout of the meal. We also tried their gold leaf coffee along with a regular coffee. The gold leaf coffee was definitely a fun, elevated touch and made the whole brunch feel extra special. What really stood out was how well they balance aesthetic and flavor. The food looks beautiful, but thankfully, it's not style over substance--the flavors absolutely deliver. Service was amazing and impressively quick, with our food coming out fast. However, Luna does offer a lot of things for this price. You have a pleasant neighborhood restaurant vibe, with friendly attentive service and excellent, healthy food sourced from good places. As with anything in Spokane, you will see folks in very casual attire, but this is also a place where you can dress up. When we went, there were several tables of women friends (all ages), many family groups (without young kids or with well-behaved kids), and older couples. I was in the mood for salmon and they did a great version. It should be though for just under $50. It was served with black rice (good) and roasted carrots (good) and a carrot puree (really good but not enough on the plate). My dining companion got the scallops, and they were even more expensive than the salmon. $48 for TWO scallops. Ok, they are large, and well-cooked, and came with a lovely vegetable mix and couscous, but that's a lot of $ for Spokane. We are from CA and that's even a shocker for us. Dessert: they had recently added a banana pudding, which was good. It replaced a chocolate dessert--and that was a bad move because there is no intense chocolate on the menu. We also tried the coconut cake with lemon curd. There was not enough curd; it was barely a tang. The cake itself was a little dry. It is served with house-made ice cream, which balances the dryness but the cake should be good on its own. Apparently, this is their most popular dessert. I am a chocolate-first person. I like coconut. I like good vanilla. I really like lemon curd and a sweet-sour pairing. For me, this item felll short.

We tried the smoked brisket hash, shrimp and grits, and breakfast burrito, and every dish delivered. The smoked brisket hash was hearty and packed with smoky, savory flavor, while the shrimp and grits were rich, creamy, and incredibly satisfying. The breakfast burrito was also loaded with flavor and made for a perfect brunch bite. The drinks deserve a special mention too! They have a huge variety of mimosa flavors, which is basically everything you want at brunch. We tried the classic and yuzu, and both were delicious. And their Bloody Marys were bomb--bold, flavorful, and a perfect pairing with the food. Service was quick and friendly. We went on a weekday and had no wait, and the restaurant has a huge space with plenty of seating. We told the server it tasted burnt & old so she offered to make a fresh pot. It was just as bad, when she asked we said it was still really yucky and she said that a lot of people don't care for it. I ordered the tamale waffle. The beef was great, eggs were a bit overcooked but no biggie, the waffle was really hard and dry. It needs some sort of crema sauce or something. It wasn't horrible by any stretch but it wasn't great either. My mom got the veggie breakfast burrito and she liked the veggies though it was bland, felt like it could have had more sour cream & cheese. It was massive and came with a side. The added 16% service fee is some real BS. It says on the receipt that it's split between the server & the kitchen staff. Call me old fashioned but I thought it was on the restaurant to pay their staff a living wage. At $18 a breakfast plate & $4 for drip coffee you should be able to pay your staff. And then we're supposed to tip on top of that? Nope.
