I complained on yelp because I had a bad experience. I did that hoping they would call me or something to sort it out. They didn't. A couple months later I gave them another chance and made an appointment to bring my car in. I come in for the appointment and PJ, the guy at the counter had printed out the review I left and refused service and was incredibly rude. I went to check my review and it was gone. So I'm leaving another. The point of yelp is for feedback. Why didn't they call me and let me know they weren't willing to help me? Why not try to reach out to the customer to find out what happened to cause the poor review? PJ was rude the first time and was rude again today. Horrible customer service. I called Franklin's up and they were able to take my car in the very next day. From the beginning the customer service was very professional and punctual. My car went in for a smog check, tire rotation, and oil change and was ready to go within an hour - I was very impressed! I received a full report of what parts/products were replaced inside my vehicle as well as what services were performed and their individual price breakdowns. This will be extremely helpful for me so that I can compare the cost of future products and services. I also appreciate that they ran a diagnostic report on my car, and were honest enough to tell me that I didn't need any more work done on it at the moment, but what to keep an eye on. took in a honda civic Sept 2022 for a smog check and oil change. reasonable pricing and service. But when changing the oil just now we could not get the oil drain plug off. Had to take it to a shop, and they needed to take an impact wrench with special socket set to 190 ftlb to get it off. Shop claims they're trained to properly torque. Beware. read more

I've been a customer at Franklin's for years but will not be returning due to their blatant disregard to COVID protocol. Both workers behind the counter were not wearing masks, a customer sitting in the store was not wearing one, and the technician who drove my car did not wear one. I asked the guy in the office why the technician in my car was not wearing a mask, and his response was sometimes they just don't. I asked why, and mentioned how they put down a mat to not get dirt from shoes in the car as a courtesy and yet they won't wear a mask in it, and he said that was something I needed to "request" if I wanted it. I'm bummed because I've been going to Franklin's for a while but I will not support a business that does not care about its customer's safety. read more

We were going on a trip and brought our van in for an oil change and to have the fluids checked. The person who booked my appt said they check all fluids with an oil change. On the way home from our trip the transmission started acting up, and we had to pull over and be towed home the rest of the way ( 140 miles). Now it's in a transmission shop awaiting pricey repairs. We saw on the receipt, after the fact, that our transmission oil was " dirty"... but no one called to make us aware of that, or to ask if we wanted it changed... like most other mechanics do... the reason we had the fluids checked to begin with. The van only has 55k miles on it. We can't help but think, and so does the transmission mechanic, that a simple flush and change of tranny oil would have spared us time ( 2 days for AAA to tow it) , hassle and a lot of money. I've come to Franklins on numerous occasions. There's times when the customer service is great and they try their best to get your problem fixed, but other times it feels like they are inattentive or rude. In the past I would be able to schedule appointments for the same or next day but lately it seems like they can't schedule you until a week later. Also got my fuel pump replaced here. It works great and the price was fair but at the same time they had to keep my truck overnight. They called me midday the next day that my tire was flat and they could fix it for an extra charge. I could have driven over something on the way there but I highly doubt it, the more resonable explanation is they ran over something in their shop. I believe good customer service would just repair the tire. however I did not argue, Les Schwab repairs tires for free. read more

When I had a problem with an oil leak, I was given an estimate of between $3500 and $4500 for a head gasket repair. Because of what I did with a cloth surrounding where the oil leak was, the people at Franklin determined it was a valve cover gasket that needed repair. They charged me $146 for labor and parts, and had my car ready five hours from when I came into their shop. I wanted to pay for the inspection fee, but they refused. Very friendly, courteous, efficient, and generous. I love this place. read more

We visited Arcata, CA recently (early August) and on the way from Utah for a week long vacation we ran into some A/C problems in 100+ degree heat. With a little 5-month-old we had to make the repair away from home, in a place I had no knowledge of the repair shops and in the time frame we were going to be in town for our vacation (we had two vehicles). After asking around and getting quotes around $2500 to $3500 dollars we found 'Franklin's Service' close to where we were staying. After explaining our situation and setting up an appointment they said they could get it done the next day--and they did! They put a rush on the repair and charged us much less than what others quoted--by thousands! All I can say is that I am EXTREMELY grateful for their honesty, quality, understanding, pricing, willingness to help, character and ALL the other good words I can put here. MOST USELESS MECHANICS IN HUMBOLDT COUNTY. One of the mechanics told me to never come back because they couldn't do the job, poor guy was probably embarrassed of how shitty they are :( So apparently a previous mechanic had put my filter on too tight and Franklins wouldn't have been able to take it off without breaking the base at least that's what they claim. The shop didn't let me know until 30 minutes after they were aware of the problem like idk about their worthless shop but my time is money! Thank god they told me not to come back because of they can't even change a filter I would not want to trust them with anything else PERIOD! read more

Just reading the other reviews here should show you that none of those people who left a review are actual mechanics. So to take there words for it is silly. Pj who works the desk is a very nice person and I doubt would mess up by telling someone that a clutch replacement was a few hundred. The clutch alone is a few hundred. For the lady who believes in the Chevy brand radiator fluid; there really all the same. Change the fluid when it looks bad or has been in there long enough. Chevy does nothing special to there radiator fluid except give a guarentee. Radiator fluid is half distilled water and half mix of ethanol, methanol, and ethylene glycol, and of course dye for color. Chevy does the dye to be unique. Also teenagers these days are smarter than most adults when they try. I was an ASE certified tech by 19. Age has nothing to do with it. I have gone to franklins for over a year now and know most of the staff. There all knowledgeable people who are certified ASE certified technicians. I have a car I'd consider my child and would never let harm come to it and I fully trust franklins with it when I bring it there. I am an ASE certified technician and worked at a diesel and subaru shop. I know how to do what needs to be done and I know just by going to franklins and speaking with techs that they as well know how to do there job. I'd do it all myself if I didn't have a wet gravel driveway most the year. The negative reviews are because people who are bringing in an old junker of a car have very high expectations that all it is is a simple fix. Most old vehicles have several if not dozens of things getting old and weak and ready to break. If there told it's going to be thousands to fix they almost always think there bein ripped off. If your curious just ask what the expected labor and price of parts is and do some research yourself. Shops have what's called flag rate hours which are nationally used to set how much labor on average does it take to do any type of work on a vehicle. Franklins even says on there site they will call and ask that's it's OK to fix things they find that weren't on the quote. All in all I haven't had a single problem with them. If anything they are to busy and you may need to try to set an appointment for there alignment machine or smog. I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

I tried to tune up my van before a long road trip. I got stranded in Arcata and had to pull into the Chevron there. An employee of that Chevron suggested that I have my van towed there for service. They fixed what could have been catastrophic error and suggested I get new plug wires. I was on the road the next day and my vacation was saved. Friendly and professional staff only charged me for the inspection. Almost worth the 14 hour drive for the help. read more

BIGGEST SCAMMERS EVER!!! Do not take your car here. A few months back I took my car in to get looked at for rattling under the passenger floor board, car shaking at speeds above 30, other issues as well. I was told they found nothing wrong. My husband and I have called 4-5 times to get a receipt as to why we paid $500 (I went in by myself and they took advantage of me being a young woman knowing nothing about cars.) they can't give me a receipt after calling nearly 5 times asking it to be sent to my email. This is because they can't tell me why I paid $500 for them to delete a code. I ended up going to Leon's and they INSTANTLY found the problem and told me I was lucky I hadn't crashed and there was no way a knowledgeable mechanic could've missed all the big red flags literally right in front of their faces read more

Brought my 94' Camaro here for an oil change and they emptied the factory radiator fluid that I paid a lot of money for. They said it looked rusty!!! It is Chevy's brand of radiator fluid and it is guaranteed to last longer than conventional fluid. When I asked them to refill it they said they did, with cheap shit. They said they could not use that brand and were not willing to fix their screw-up. I was pissed and I will never return. They have teenagers working on your car that do not know anything. read more

I took my Subaru here to get the clutch replaced because it was starting to slip around 120,000. Over the phone they told me it would cost a few hundred dollars. I showed up to pick up my car and the invoice was over $2000. I told them I had nothing close to this amount of money, and their response was, "we quoted you over the phone." I would definitely have remembered if this were true. They also claimed to have replaced a bunch of other small things that were old. The car broke down a few weeks later and they told me it would cost several thousand to fix the turbo and whatnot. I sold the car and would never recommend them to anyone ever. I have never had anything but exceptional service at Franklins. The cost is always shockingly low. Once I got a cracked belt replaced and had them change my air filter. My total with parts and labor was just UNDER $100! I couldn't believe it. I am young and putting myself through school, so I almost cried when I realized my total was $50 less than I had estimated from looking the parts up online. Also, while waiting for an oil change one day an old woman came in as a walk-in. They told her they could squeeze her in, but that it could be a few hours. She seemed distraught and said she had pets at home she was worried about. The man behind the counter grabbed his keys and said, "come on, I'll take you home and pick you back up when your car is ready." Service doesn't get much better than that. Plus we all have mothers/grandmothers out there, I only hope they get treated half as well as this woman was treated at Franklins. This is my place, wouldn't go anywhere else. read more
