This place can be hit or miss in my opinion. Some of the hits are the Frankie's fried rice. The brisket enchiladas and the carne asada. My wife loves the veggie nachos Misses are the fajitas and the chicken enchiladas. Also their salsa is really good but they give you a tiny bowl of it. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with this place. From the moment my husband and I walked in, we were not impressed. First, their waiting area is not very big and there are tables and people everywhere making it hard for you to even put your name on the waiting list without being in someone's way. While waiting, something dripped on my husband from the ceiling. Once we put our names on the list, we asked if we could wait just outside the door since there was no room inside. We were told we could. Next thing we know, the host is coming out to find us telling us they almost gave our table away because they couldn't find us. We asked if we could wait outside! It's not like there was even room for us to wait inside! My husband and I love hole in the wall places like this, but they missed the mark. We always judge a Mexican food place based on the fajitas. Anyone can take shredded meat and cover it in cheese or sour cream sauce and it taste delicious. But the proof is in the seasoning of their meat. We ordered the combo fajitas with grilled veggies instead of rice and beans. We were told upfront that the swap for veggies would be extra. (we were fine with that although I think it's unfair that they charge extra for people who have dietary restrictions) The meat was bland. The steak was chewy and tough. I don't normally salt my food, but I had to in order for the meat to have any flavor. The guacamole on the other hand was very salty. The side of veggies came on a small plate and wasn't very much. Thankfully, the waiter took off the extra charge without us asking which I thought was very nice. Also, while we were sitting, someone else at the table next to us had something from the ceiling drip on them. Yuck. The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is the service. Our waiter was nice and made sure to keep my husband's tea refilled throughout the night. Overall, save your money and go to another restaurant. Sometimes when you bet on a place, you bet wrong and it really is just a hole in the wall and not a hidden gem. read more

Came on Father's day on a recommendation, and it did not disappoint. Nachos were delicious, ceviche was outstanding, and the salsa is excellent. Food was great, but the corn tortillas weren't great. And the guiso, though delicious, wasn't a very big portion... Would have expected more for the price. The flan was delicious, and the churros were outstanding. Service was friendly. We hadn't been in a while but we picked up today and were surprised that the food had improved so much. The borracho beans are not too salty anymore and the flavor is the best I've ever had. The fajitas have better meat and taste wonderful. We love the brisket, we got tacos and quesadillas. We enjoyed the salmon tacos too. The salsa was perfect not too hot. Quacamole is excellent. They have definitely improved since our last visit. This does beat anywhere else. read more

My husband and I go out to eat every Friday and it always ends up being this restaurant. First it was the one in Richardson, then we moved to Sachse and we were so relieved to find that we were just down the road from the Sachse location. Their margaritas are delicious and fairly strong haha! The salsa my husband likes to drink by the shot full and you can actually buy it in bulk which is amazing! From the service to the food, I have worked in many restaurants but this one always leaves me in awe at how efficient and happy everyone is. read more

We ordered beef fajitas for 2 and we got chicken and beef..but more than that..we were told that more than 4 tortillas (for 2 people) are "extra"...the guacamole was minor and the sour cream, no cheese in sight...Good food. Poor execution...been a client for 4-5 years...seems to be less client oriented..full capability for awesomeness..this is not their time. Will try again next year. read more

I was thrilled to find a non-chain Mexican restaurant in the Wylie area with great reviews. After reading up son some yelpers suggestions I headed to Frankie's for dinner... It's a very small space with a bar area and about 10 tables somewhat separated by a wall. I couldn't see much of the dining area from my seat at the bar, but it was pretty full when I arrived. It was Monday night and Football was about to kick off. Drink specials included $3 Margaritas and Beers during the game. Not bad. $1 Train shots as well. (Train rolls by, shots are $1,) I ordered their three enchilada plate which came with one sour cream chicken, one beef with chili and one cheese that I requested have the chipotle sauce on it. The enchiladas were delicious. I mean really good. The sauces were obviously made in house and that chipotle sauce was the bomb. Homemade beans and rice were really good too. Complimentary chips and salsa were served. The salsa has nice flavor but almost no heat. I like more heat in my salsa. I finished with their soapapilla bites. They're normally served with ice cream, but i skipped the ice cream in favor of honey. These weren't bites, they were full sized sopapillas. Three of them. And they were damn good. My service was solid too....well sorta. The bartender never let my drink or salsa bowl get empty. My order, with substitution, was right and delivered promptly despite the fact that he, and some of the wait staff, spent most of the time hitting on three women that were at the bar. More on that in a second. Now up until this point, I'm ready to hand out 4 stars and be on my way, but then the most appalling thing happened. No more than three feet away, the following conversation takes place between the bartender and Frankie: Bartender "Hey....which one do you want? The blonde or brunette?" Frankie "Um...you know, I don't care. Whichever one you don't want is fine with me." Bartender "LOL" Frankie "LOL" Seriously. Three feet in front of me. I'm not so naive to think these conversations don't happen, but DON'T DO IT IN FRONT OF YOUR CUSTOMERS. I loved the food, but I don't think I'll darken their door again. read more

My cousin recently moved near here and I found this place on Yelp and it did not disappoint. My cousin has already been back. Everything we had (shrimp fajitas, guac, margarita's) were excellent. It was the first time we stopped by- I had always driven past and been intrigued by the packed parking lot. So we finally took the plunge and I ordered the brisket enchiladas ! So So So good. We walked in to the podium to be seated. A waiter places a stand and tray in front of us. Serves off of it, then walks away leaving it blocking the door. The manager comes along, "right this way" and a server steps between us. He scampers off to the back where the restrooms are. We seat ourselves. So far, horrible place. We watched the manager seat a party of 4 at a table for three, then walk off leaving a guest standing there. He had to go ask for a chair to sit in. The lil waitress was great. So my boyfriend and I came on a Monday night around 7. PACKED! On a Monday! I didn't want to wait, only because I was so hungry... But my boyfriend convinced me that the wait is totally worth it. Once we got seated, we ordered the queso. I loved it! I think it was made of white cheddar.. It was so rich. My boyfriend thought it was too rich, but still very delicious! We ordered the brisket enchiladas and the camerones (shrimp) diablo. The Brisket enchiladas were so unique and sooooo delicious. It's fried tortillas, wrapped in mashed potatoes. The brisket was lied on top of the enchiladas, and topped with a plobano cream sauce. Mouth watering.... I had the camerones diablo... also mouth watering. This place deserves a 5 star rating not just for the food but for the ambience and service! But let's start with the food: I have been here a good number of times and I only just moved to Sachse a few months ago! I'm here at least once a week :) The food is so incredible--- their brisket enchiladas, taco plate, chipotle salmon, and quesadillas are a few of the dishes I have tried, and they have all wowed me. Their dishes are savory, fresh, and the presentation is always fantastic. It's nice to have a beautifully presented dish that tastes as good as it looks!!! Their margaritas are STRONG! Even when they're on happy hour prices ($4)! They also give you a complimentary tostada appetizer which is a nice touch. Their chips and salsa are pretty great too---salsa has the perfect amount of spice to it. The service is also top-notch. The servers are friendly, bartenders are happy to keep your drinks full, and even the patrons at the bar seem to have known each other for years. Always a good sign! read more

The food here is delicious. Upon arrival they bring you savory salsa and chips. I recommend the queso, which is a jalapeño white cheese with spinach. The servers will bring you a complimentary bean tostadita after you order your entree. Sometimes I only order bean tostadas just because they are so good. Frankie comes from the humble state of Guanajuato, Mexico and has brought a little bit of its wonderful flavors. He has combined some of his dishes with a little Tex Mex flare. read more

Parents recently moved to Sachse, and were in the mood for Mexican. After reading reviews here on yelp about it, and it's super close proximity, we decided to give it a try. It looks smaller on the outside, but the inside has a great atmosphere. The chips were a bit old and tough, but served as a most adequate vehicle for the wonderful cilantro-infused salsa. Each person got their own ramekin of deliciousness. I ordered the Agustin's plate (cheese enchiladas with fajita chicken on top) while my husband got the brisket topped potato enchiladas. While mine was good, his was great. Unique, but delicious. Only complaints: rice was overdone for my particular tastes, and a bit bland. But my father had no problem with it. Also, things were under-salted. But again, better less than too much. We will definitely be back again to try more plates and their margaritas. read more

Frankies is LEGIT! When you pull in the parking lot and aroma of sizzling fajita meat and tomatillo sauce brewing in the are you know you are in for something special. Margaritas: They are not skimpy on the Tequila and not cheap tequila either, a real smooth but strong punch. Great to sip on while you wait for your table. Appetizer: Cheese dip - A great white queso with a thicker than average consistency with a real mellow taste. Entree: Dish 1 - Cheese Enchiladas with Queso sauce topped with Sizzling Beef Fajitas. The corn tortillas was fresh and had a little bite, the cheese very tasty and the beef was freshly sliced and perfectly charred. Dish 2- Combo Fajitas - Seared Beef, Chicken, and Shrimp atop Red/Green peppers and onions. The veggies were thick sliced and nicely seasoned. Dessert: Sopapilla served with warmed honey...Missing butter? Service was superb and they also gave free tostada sampler before meal. read more

Since it has opened the parking lot has been packed so we figured it must be decent. We went by on Monday night to have a quick bite and watch the rest of the football game. First thing we noticed was $1 train shots for Monday night football. We looked at each other and wondered what the heck is a train shot. Not too long later - the train went by across the street and the manager yelled - that's the train - any shot for a dollar. We fell in love with the salsa immediately. It has a nice smokey flavor and the chips were perfect (fresh and not greasy). My only suggestion is a bigger bowl for the salsa. Even though the bowl was small the bartender kept it full. We ordered the pollo gordo as one entree. A chicken stuffed with spinach, mushrooms and onions with a chipotle cream sauce with a side of mashed potatoes. Sounds like a weird combination at a Tex-Mex restaurant but it worked! Our second entree was Rafa's Enchiladas which were also great. The mole sauce was very delicious and the serving was enough for a hearty appetite. Overall - very much enjoyed this venue and will be trying it again very soon. read more

This used to be my go-to Mexican restaurant that was nearby, but the last 2 to 3 times, the food has been mediocre at best. I had beef fajitas and the meat tasted exactly like the processed frozen fajita meat one would get at Walmart in. 5lb bag. it was all cut to the exact same size, around 3/4" thick, which is too thick for a fajita cut. The meat was also very bland and not too tender. The salsa also used to be very addicting but not so much anymore. My daughter sour cream enchiladas were reportedly not very good. We are going to give this place and rest for a few months and give them another try, hopefully they will make some improvements.
