Incredible. The anchovies parm toast is to die for. Very rarely do I taste a perfect dish- this is up there as top 5. Salty umami crusty bread that is almost ethereal and disappears under a baby mountain of airy parm, garlic, olive oil and chopped anchovies. Oh wow- that is all I want a whole baguette of this all day everyday. The paparadelle w lamb and tomato sauce was such good grandma made it type stick to your gut good. Classic. A place for a classic Italian cuisine in a classic New York City setting. I went for a ladies night not that long ago. I would like to start by saying the restaurant was exceptionally kind (because I was a little more than fashionably late). When you sit down to order, they ask you order everything at once. Drinks, apps, and entrees for the table must be ordered upfront, and they only accept cash. That's where the "authentic New York" comes in. When the bruschetta came, we laughed at the size..... because it was so massive it was comical!! The 4 toast slices were GINORMOUS, and they were so gracious with the toppings!!! This is a messy dish. Warning: Although I absolutely recommend this app, i also recommend not getting this on a first date. Dish described as: "Tomatoes everyyyyyyywhere..... but no regrets!!" The calamari was piquant, and stole the first act of appetizers. Chewy, but not rubbery. Fresh ocean flavor, but not fishy. Just as drool worthy as it was photogenic. For entree time, I panick-picked the first menu item that caught my fancy, which was ravioli of the day: spinach. I had wondered if I'd be regretting my decision by not ordering a meat dish. The handmade pasta, with a robust tomato sauce and cheese, did not need an animal item to make it relevant. The whole large bowl...... Ciao. Almost every bite vanished. My friends got the gnocchi and the pieces I traded were equally on point. This is a place I will bring friends and dates in the future. *It's cash only, and the prices are very Manhattan. Some of the most authentic and fresh Italian I've had here in NYC! Remember, CASH ONLY!! I made a reservation for 4 people for a Saturday night about a week and a half in advance. They have three seating times, 5:30pm, 7pm, and 9:30pm. We chose the 7pm slot. We arrived right at 7pm and it was packed! The restaurant is comprised of two rooms; the first one has a full bar and a couple of tables and the other has the kitchen and more tables. Everyone is jam packed together in NYC fashion and it was very loud. We were seated at 7:15pm and squeezed our way into our seats. The service was great! He was able to tell us some popular dishes and what his personal favorites were. We ordered the burrata for an app ($17.95) and it reminded me of when I went to Italy. The cheese was soo creamy and fresh; amazing!! I ordered the spaghetti limone (which is on the menu at their other restaurant Lil Frankie's, but I didn't see it on the menu here); the only reason I knew they could make it is because the waiter said it was one of his personal favorites! Everyone loved their dishes and couldn't get over how fresh and flavorful everything tasted. I thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes! I also liked how you could order a bottle of wine and if you didn't finish it, they would only charge you for what you drank; really cool unique concept that most other places don't do! Before Frank Prisinzano brought you Lil Frankie's and Supper (both opened in 2002), he brought you Frank four years earlier in 1998. While I clearly was not in NYC in 1998, Frank seems to have kept the old rustic charm. The food is just as good if not better than when they opened (I hope!) given their nearly two decade tenure. Most entrees are $22-28 while a glass of wine ranges $11-12. Service was really lovely. It makes me miss these types of human interactions when we are so cooped up at home. I'm glad to see they are enduring this pandemic and wishing all three Frank establishments continued success to get to the other side. Really wanted to like this place more than I did. I got the wild mushroom tagliatelle. While it was okay, it lacked depth and flavor that i was looking for. Great food, terrible service. We made a reservation for 7, and arrived on time. After we watched them seat someone without a reservation, they told us they had no tables only the bar. We asked if we could wait for a table and they acted confused and kept just telling us to sit at the bar. What is the point of a reservation? They were totally slammed and we were completely ignored by the bartender - who was making drinks for people who got up from their tables to lean on us while we were trying to eat to order because it was taking too long for their server. We have been there before and never had this experience. The food is really great but after that we will never go again. They have some cool drink specials on the weekends, buy one get two free. Definitely a good place for a boozy brunch! Both brunch and lunch menus were sufficient, and there were many different options from salads, to appetizers, pasta, entrées, and some sandwiches, as well as breakfast food. I went a bit off menu and got spaghetti with red sauce and sausage with meatballs, which was great. The burrata and tomato salad was very good, as was the watermelon and balsamic. The absolute fifth that is surrounded by the bowl has me questioning the integrity of New York's Health Inspection. I came here on a Saturday with a friend for lunch. It was so gorgeous out so we decided to sit outside. They had a brunch special for drinks (3 for 1) including mimosas, bloody Mary's, screwdrivers, and Prosecco, but you had to purchase an entree with it. We opted for the Prosecco, and the waiter was really good about bringing us our next glass when we finished. We shared Mozzarella Di Bufala as an appetizer and Uncle Tony's Gnocchi as the main. The tomatoes especially tasted really fresh. The gnocchi was just OK, but I'd definitely return and try some of their other pasta dishes. The food we had was amazing. My friend and I shared the burrata appetizer and I got the mushroom tagliatelle. The burrata was so creamy and paired very well with the complimentary bread. What we were disappointed about is that prices were no where on the special menu, so the burrata ended up being 25 dollars, more than either of our pastas. I've been having the most INSANE spaghetti limone craving since we came back from southern Italy and I've had this place bookmarked since I saw Chrissy Teigen post about how it's one of her favorite go-to spots in NYC. I just didn't want to overspend on mediocre food, and I'm glad I didn't because my friends who are big Italian food lovers were not too keen on the sauce either. There are a lot of Italian restaurants on this part of 2nd ave, but Frank is the best one I've tried so far. My friend and I arrived for a late lunch around 3 on a weekday, and the place was nearly empty (not surprisingly since 3 pm is a super random time to eat.) The restaurant is very cozy and nicely decorated and the waitstaff was friendly. They have their specials on a chalkboard above the kitchen, and they have so many specials! It made the process of deciding what to order quite difficult. We started by sharing the stracciatella and the sautéed spinach. The stracciatella was phenomenal, so flavorful and just a bit salty. The sautéed spinach was decent but nothing I couldn't have made at home--I would skip the spinach if I went back tbh. For our entrees, I had the rigatoni and my friend had the gnocchi special. The rigatoni was really, really good--it was al dente and rich and the sauce was delicious. It was topped with the perfect amount of Parmesan cheese. I was confused when it came because there was an option on the menu to add meatballs for 4.95, which I didn't ask for, but it came with meatballs and sausage pieces in it. Maybe they were part of the ragu? I'm not sure but they didn't charge me so I can't complain too much. My friend loved her gnocchi dish too--the gnocchi was homemade and the sauce was delicious. I'm not a gnocchi fan so I didn't try it though. This is definitely not the cheapest restaurant but in my opinion the quality is proportionate with the prices. This pasta really stands out.
