The very best authentic Italian food in New York! It's my birthday month and I hit up a lot of Italian restaurants including Del Posto and Torrisi the past few weeks. Also spent a summer eating everything I could in Tuscany...... ALL of the plates we tried at Franina's were right up there....or better. Grilled calimari.....tender and more tasty than a lobster tail. The boar sausage.....homemade and delicious! The pastas ....best spinach Canneloni (they call it something else on their menu) I have ever had. Branzino was cooked to perfection.....I can't believe how incredible EVERYTHING was. Service was wonderful.....friendly and couldn't do enough to make it a memorable experience. The only thing I didn't like was only finding this restaurant recently. This is a really good restaurant. Every course I had was delicious. They start out by bringing you marinated olives, three different kinds of bread, and three different spreads for the bread. For the first course, I had a spinach salad with cranberries, walnuts, oranges, cheese, and an excellent vinaigrette. For the main course, I had halibut with mussels in a fish broth that was out of this world. For dessert, I had a crepe with sauteed apples and custard, gelato on the side, a cookie, and fresh berries (that's all one dessert). Allow plenty of time for each course. Very unprofessional. My wife spoke to someone there about having the baptism party for my twins. The day we selected was available. My wife offered a deposit, but they said was not necessary. While preparing the invites a week later the restaurant called to say the date was not available anymore. Now i don't care how good the food is, but when you treat people like that you lose respect and business. I will never go to franina's again just because of that disgraceful act. Thank God the site we were buying invites from allowed us to change venues without problems. read more

So this my first review ever I joined yelp just to give information about this restaurant never have I been so insulted demeaned and actually touched by the owner and told to get out. After a very well executed dinner I went over to the owner and complemented the meal and explain to him that it was served to me way too fast after the appetizer. This place is by no means a cheap restaurant on the other hand it's actually quite expensive and quite fancy. After reviewing my bill giving a full tip I walked over to the owner and thanked him for the The 4 cups of coffee that he actually charge me for the man jumped up with his finger pointing in my face and said why the hell would I buy someone like you a cup of coffee we don't have customers like you come here I immediately put my hands behind my back and speak calmly and ask what do you mean by people like me I had two people in my face with their fingers right in it demanding that I get out I told him a few choice words and the man actually put his hands on me and told me to get the fuck out of his store my wife is eight months pregnant so we drink no alcohol So the five person dinner must not have been large enough for him so I guess that's the type a customer he was talking about then about a half hour later I speak to a friend who is there the Friday before him and his wife sat down at the bar order two glasses of wine and were told that another type of wine is much better not thinking anything they took it had another dinner the wine she suggested was 100 dollars a glass and never told my friend before hand so if you like good food and you like being robbed this is the place for you I am a business owner and would never try and hurt somebody else's business but these people are the worst of the worst !!! read more

I rrreally like this place! Decor is warm. Authentic Italian setting...loved it! The italian men who are in charge are very attentive, nice and accommodating. We had a Saturday night reservation and we were seated right away! Now..as we walk in I see the Long Island Medium, Theresa Caputo with husband and friends! I thought to myself, should i go over and ask her what am i going to eat and if my meal is going to be good..if anyone will know she will!! lololol.but seriously i wanted to say hello but i didn't want to disturb her. Also, there was a congressman there that night. I was really hoping to see Brad Pitt next..now that would have been great!! ok, now for the food....Appetizer..Insalata..Frutti Di Mare(Seafood Salad with dressing) was Delicious!!! baby arugula salad was good! I had a veal dish with mushroom sauce and it was one of the best veal dishes i ever had!!! Veal medallions were so tender and sauce was soo good...it was delicious!!!! Sauteed spinach was also very good. BF had salmon dish..it was good, but my dish was the standout!! Drinks were good. Dessert..some fruit and italian cookies and they were good. Waitstaff was also very good! I really liked that the host/head guy always walking around making sure everyone was good and they asked if everything is ok. i liked that they were very attentive! I highly suggest this place!! Also there was a bar but it was pretty quiet not too many people. This restaurant has a nice warm setting! also, a good place for four or more people. Have eaten here several times and the food is delicious. Wonderfully prepared and presented in a generous serving. The service is attentive but they certainly cater to their regulars with a little more warmth not that I am complaining. Pastas are excellent, fish is fresh and the veal and beef are first class. Had a bad experience this past Saturday night. Went to this restaurant for my friends birthday and we had an 8 pm reservation. They told us they were setting up our table and it would be a few minutes. A few minutes later 4 people walked in and the owners were kissing and hugging them and sat them at the table that they were cleaning for us. The hostess told us it would be a few minutes more. They did not seat us until 8:50 and they did not apologize. We complained and they said they were waiting for tables to pay their bill so we sat and waited almost an hour for a table they said would be ready in 5 min. The manager never came over to our table to apologize or see how we were. It is too bad. It made for a very aggravating evening and the 4 of us will Never go back. My friends even left their phone number for the manager to call the next day and no one ever called. Not a good way to run a restaurant read more

We were a party of 29, a funeral reception. Franco took my reservation over the phone and with kindness and patience explained the menu. Everything from the moment we walked in was impeccable. The wait staff is expertly trained and serve with elegance and precision. The food was outstanding, one of the best meals I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The room is elegantly decorated with a fireplace in the center and framed brocade walls. We were set up in groups, not one long table which was ideal because there were 4 groups of family members We started with an antipasto which included authentic prosciutto di Parma, mozzarela, ripe, juicy cantaloupe, large sundried tomato... just delicious. This was followed by rigatoni in a rich marinara sauce, just enough not swimming in it and the pasta was al dente...perfect. I had the veal with thinly sliced eggplant and fontina cheese in a brown sauce, heavenly. This was capped off by a fresh fruit plate with tricolored mouse and a hint of fruit sauce decorating the plate. Everything came out hot, beautifully presented, with a delicate balance of flavors. Even the coffee tasted freshly ground and brewed. Of course this caliber of food and service comes at a substantial price....but it is worth every penny!!!!!!!! For a special occasion or a romantic dinner this is the ideal place. Franina's has it down pat, no question about it. We will definitely return. Thank you Franco and staff! read more

Curb appeal is very low. Its located between a gas station and auto parts store. Not classy. Parking lot is tiny, although they have valet service some nights. The decor is typical, no wow factor. The ambiance was terrible, dining area is small and too Lloyd. Not romantic at all. Food was average and dessert was terrible. Applebees has a better chocolate cake than them. Very expensive for the product and service you receive. Menu online is not even the same as in restaurant. We were charged higher price than menu. Never going back. read more

Well they think they are on Park Avenue and 57th Street in Manhattan. They are not ! As per other reviews you have to expect 100 dollars a person for nothing spectacular. Went this past Saturday night with friends. Service is somewhat questionable as there appears to be a lack of communication between waiters, managers (if thats what they are) and other floor help. You finally put in for a drink order and then two other people come and ask the same question. Happened twice. Soup (Lentil) was semi warm. The two orders of cold fish salad for something like $21 per was pre-preped into a nest of salad 4 inches wide consisting of one shrimp one piece of lobster meat and a few circles of calamari. Small yes...but the fact that they refrigerate the concoction ahead of time in the oil dressing, causing the olive oil to congeal into a semi thick paste. Not a good dish at that price. Other dishes were well made but way way over priced for the item and portion size served. The Wait Staff and what appears to be old time owner managers on the floor were definitely more concerned with regulars than tables they did not know. I do not appreciate hearing the specials from someone who is speaking to the table while looking at other tables that apparently were more important to him. Valet parking and the Coat Check individual were wonderful. The service with an attitude and food that is good but not great and prices that are nuts makes this a one time visit. I guess the regulars are treated better and don't care about throwing away money in a place like this. read more

One of my favorite restaurants and would be a 5 if not for the limited parking and fairly high prices. But you get what you pay for here. Great Italian food. Try the zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta. All the sauces are quite delicious. One waiter is a little opinionated however service overall is very good. Nice bar also. Owner is a gentleman Really 4 1/2 stars but don't know how to make a half star. Lol. Impressive place. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!!! It is Awful just awful. First off the service here is terrible and everyone who works there is EXTREMELY RUDE! The food was just awful as well and for the overly priced food here you would think that it would have at least been edible but it was not and I have no problem splurging on good food, but for what we paid it was not worth it one bit! Also the valet was such an asshole when we arrived he was giving us dirty looks and when we left he hands me the key and says "here you go your car is parked over there", MIND YOU the car was on the opposite side of the lot! Treated without respect. Seated 45 minutes after reservation time with no apology. Their lack of empathy made the customer feel embarrassed in front of husband and friends. Staff needs major attitude adjustment - hostess did very little to make us feel that we were being wronged! WE ARE THE CUSTOMER AND DESERVE CIVILITY. If we are upset that we are waiting, at least be cordial. The more I spoke with management, the less they tried - how very sad!
