Francoise is absolutely magical. I had trouble finding the place, of course, but when I did it couldn't have been more perfect. There is a full experience that one gets when going to this place. It is a literal secret garden, considering how difficult it is to locate. She was so absolutely pleasant and wonderful to talk with. I normally have a really difficult and awkward time making small talk with hairdressers as I am terrified of the process and I hardly ever like my haircuts. She was very friendly and interesting. She was encouraging and walked me through every step of the haircut. I got an extreme long to SHORT haircut, which is nerve-wracking, but I hardly even thought about it until she was finished. She offered touch-ups if I decided I didn't like it, but I couldn't imagine a more perfect haircut. Amazing job and wonderful experience. Francoise is so amazing- so amazing that when I returned home from getting my hair cut, I immediately plopped down to review her. I'm a very introverted person and I dislike the whole large crowded salon thing. Francoise's may be a little difficult to find; she is located behind a white and yellow house. I cannot specify details, but if you call her she's more than happy to come outside and direct you. This was my first time going to her, and undoubtedly this won't be the last. She is absolutely adorable and makes you feel comfortable (which is big coming from me, I rarely feel comfortable when someone is running their fingers through my hair). We had some great chats and she works with a gentle hand. When she was done my hair looked and felt (and still does!) amazing. Françoise is the best. I called about getting a balayage (sophisticated ombré) done, and I love what she did with my hair! She colored it on 2 separate visits because she wanted to make sure that I was happy with the outcome and didn't charge me extra for it. I have stubborn, shoulder-length Asian hair, and Françoise did a wonderful job of taking my face, cut, and hair type into consideration. She is truly talented at what she does. I also love that Françoise's hair studio is a cottage in a garden behind a mansion where Janis Joplin use to live. Crazy, I know. Françoise had such an interesting life and tells the best stories. I was in dire need of a haircut so I looked online for the best reviewed Hair Stylists in my area. After reading all of the consistently positive reviews on here about Francoise I decided to schedule an appointment and to say the least, I was not disappointed. I am usually skeptical with trying new barbers but the haircut itself was cheap (and was even discounted for students such as myself) and was of very high quality. You can tell that Francoise has a great relationship with all of her clients (it would be hard not to with such a sweet lady such as herself), and cares about the the haircut she gives. The haircut was over within 30min and it seemed even shorter than that due to the atmosphere and easy-consversation that Francoise provides. Overall: 5/5 , new favorite stylist!! read more

What a delightful experience! Tucked away in a secret garden behind a beautiful historic home is a little cottage where, Françoise, an extremely sweet frenchwoman, cuts hair. We chatted amicably about life in general as she trimmed my hair. I like a very simple haircut , which she understood and instructed me sweetly how to do it myself to keep it healthy. She also gave me a new customer rate which was even more generous than her already amazingly reasonable prices. I highly recommend a visit to her salon. I live on the UT campus and can't believe how lucky I was to discover Francoise's hair studio so close by. Her charming studio, friendly personality, and quality cuts have kept me going back consistently since our first appointment. She schedules her appointments well, so I often don't see anybody else there. She also takes her time and seems genuinely interested in conversation. I also love that she often leaves the windows of her beautiful, secluded studio and plays classical music on the radio. Plus, she offers a student discount! New to Austin, and am so glad I ended up here with Francoise. She did a great job--I prefer dark color, and it is hard to get the shade, depth, etc. just right--but she got it perfectly. I love getting my hair cut by Francoise. Not only did I change hairstyles (from long to short) but she listens to exactly what I think want because, you know, sometimes you want the same thing, sometimes you want something a bit different, even from hair cut to hair cut. She learns your hair and will tell you what styles will or won't work for you, good advice when you want a style that's not good for your hair type.
