I saw Kati at Lather. I showed her an entire Pinterest board I had. We discussed my hair history…read moreand I told her I wanted a light brown copper red. Attached are the reference photos. She asked if I wanted highlights and dimensions I said yes. Most of the references have highlights. What she gave me was the opposite of what I asked for. 12 hours before my vacation I ended up with bright blonde highlights on a dark brown base. I had darker hair then what I came in with somehow. I asked her why the color was dark she said it oxidized dark. I didn't question her. She told me she has done hair for 25 years. I don't believe that based on what I received. I explained I wanted the highlights to be copper. Once she started blowing out my hair I was getting incredibly upset. It wasn't even close to what I showed and we discussed. I had not touched my hair in a year to let it grow and get healthy. She botched it. I told her I was extremely upset. She told me she could fix it the next morning early before my flight and that she would text me. Unfortunately I had to leave for another appointment and paid her $400 for my hair. She wasted my time, my hair health, and my money. I shouldn't have paid her at all. After an hour I become really upset after getting a look of my hair in the sun. I called lather salon 12 times. No response. I decided to drive over because Kati had still not texted me to fix it. I showed up and she was gone. The salon owner was still there and tried to call her but nothing. She apologized but offered no real solution. Saying she was done and couldn't help me. She suggested to go down to one of the 7 salons on the street and try to get help. I did and found a gem of a stylist. She told me my hair was so botched she would have to lather my hair in bleach. Further having to destroy my hair health to undo what Kati had done. By the time I have the bleach on my hair I finally get a text from Kati. Offering a 50% refund because she also had give me a dusting. A dusting costs $200 apparently. Instead of going back and forth with a stylist who obviously didn't care about the service she provided just the money. I didn't continue fighting. The entire process I was in the dark about what was going on with my hair. Lies were told saying it's going to be copper. Do not come to this salon. They wrecked my hair and I had to spend more money fixing the damage she caused. But I guess it was worth $200 to her.

Curly girls, you know how hard it is to pick a new stylist. At worst, we get someone who whacks at…read moreour hair in giant chunks or *shudders* thinks a straight cut is a good idea. At best, we find a stylist who cuts at an angle, understands layering, and maybe dials it up with a razor for texture. I thought I had experienced top-notch curly cuts, and then Carla Estevez moved the bar. I found Carla via a friend-recommendation, and I've referred her many times since. Here's what makes her stand out in my mind: she curates curls like she's sculpting, rather than cutting them in a traditional way. My first cut, I needed a complete reshape, so she did The Usual that I'm familiar with to get reasonable layers. Then she dried it...and the magic began. Once she could see what my curls were doing, she pulled individual curls out to snip, and continued this way around my head as we talked about how the shape was coming along. Because of this approach, I could SEE what was emerging and have input. As a result, I ended up with an adorable angled cut that had lift and bounce and really put my curls in their best mode. I also went shorter than I EVER would have allowed another stylist to take me, because each step, she asked questions, and because of my response, we adjusted. It's been two years now of amazing cuts and I rarely wear my hair pulled back now...it's just too happy to be contained. If you need a curl-tamer, go see Carla. Seriously, you deserve a cut this good!

Re: Scalp Expert…read more Sarah B. is only one of two scalp experts in Austin to treat balding or dandruff. My hair started falling out in clumps after using conditioner purchased at Craig Piatti Salon, Shu Uemura Ashita supreme conditioner. Sarah took pictures of my scalp and examined it by zooming in to ascertain I had build up. She exfoliated my scalp using Oway products. Now she's focusing on rebuilding my hair so that it's thicker and fuller after being highlighted at Craig Piatti Salon. She said that postpartum, I should not have had my hair highlighted without rebuilding first. The texture of my hair changed postpartum and could not handle the same highlighting treatment as it did before pregnancy. I'm so glad that my hair is on its way back to fullness and thickness!

I wanted to create a color style that worked alongside my new white hairs that were growing in rather than jumping on the root touch-up train that requires being in the salon every two to four weeks. I get so many compliments on my hair and haven't stressed about white hair since Sarah started coloring my hair! I'll also note that the color she uses smells like herbs vs. headachy chemicals and has left my hair healthier than former hair color formulas I've had used in other salons in the past.
