DO NOT GO HERE IN THE MORNING. There's always something with this place. It's unreliable. There is often a piece of receipt paper taped to the door with a random excuse why they aren't open. One time it was a "family emergency." Another time it's "fryer malfunction". Today is apparently a "holiday" on November 21st. What holiday is on 11/21?? If you're in a pinch for donuts for the office, or you plan on getting up early to swing by before work- DO NOT RISK coming here. But my favorite is the OC Sand because it's just a glaze donut covered with sugar but it's perfect. Although no matter what your preference of donuts are they are made to order so it's made fresh daily. Frederick would not be the same without this place. You know you're in for a surprise when you see that purple box! The donuts are made fresh to order... you are even able to reheat em! They are filling I could only eat two max and about the price of Dublin which is insane to me. The variety of donuts is ridiculous even overwhelming especially when trying to pick your dozen! A good issue to have lol they also have monthly flavors that keep things interesting. Not worth it when the price hasnt changed and the flavor is watered down syrups. Prices the same and the donuts are half the size. With less toppings too. Not going back ever. I had stopped going for years already because of staff, prices and other issues and now this is just going to make my decision easier to never return or recommend them to family or friends when they visit. I don't think of them or crave them anyways so it will be easy. They use to be great when we first started going 15 years ago BUT LIKE most businesses that get to big for their customers... they forget where they started and how they started and what made them great at the beginning. So they get greedy instead of making their customers satisfied like they were in the beginning. They start to become nothing special and not anything better than a generic brand. Note: I got a BNB and I could only taste the nuts, I got a Blk Forst and only could taste the coconut. The C Straw tasted like chocolate only. The blueberry hill just tasted like powdered donut. No matter which Fractured Prune location I've ordered from I've always received quality donuts from super friendly staff Half a dozen for $8, it is so easy to treat yo'self and so hard to not go overboard. haha. I love the appeal of making my own donut, but those base flavor combos are so perfect (FP knows what they are doing). We ordered our standard Black Forest, Trailblazer, Smores, Pebble Beach, and Banana Nut Bread..then this time I jazzed up the Pumpkin Spice-adding coconut and chocolate chips, then created a mixed berry glaze with sprinkles and graham crust. Was sad I couldn't really go where I wanted for my birthday because of things shutting down during COVID-19. So I drove an hour just for a dozen donuts. You can't beat a fresh, hot delicious donut. Definitely made my day. Other than Duck Donuts ( also about an hour drive for me) this was worth the trip. What could have made it better? An Elvis Delight Special, with banana glaze, peanut butter drizzle, and bacon crumbles. Oh sweet mana from heaven. In meantime, all 12 different donuts I tried was amaze balls. Always get these donuts in ocean city on the boardwalk and was excited when I found a location in Fredrick, MD. The location and storefront is nothing to write home about but the donuts are still the best ever! We chose to get the half dozen for about $8. Taste just like the ones on the boardwalk. I popped in for the first time this past Father's Day. It wasn't terribly busy so was able to pop in and get my donuts quickly. They have a ton of flavors and overall they were all very tasty. The employees were wearing masks and gloves (when ringing orders up). And I appreciated the owner telling me that I should just order six donuts instead of five since they'd be the same price. They came out quickly and we enjoyed them at a nearby park. The interior of the space is open and under normal circumstances probably plenty of places to sit down and eat. I'm very torn. I used to love the Prune, and I believe the concept of fresh made to order donuts is a great one. But, the store, service, and quality has really gone downhill. A few specifics: (1) The store needs fresh paint (and a good cleaning) and some fix up. One particularly nasty example: I used the bathroom, and when I reached for the light switch, stuck my finger into the hole of the empty outlet cover next to the switch on the duplex plate. Really dangerous issue - and one that another reviewer pointed out a few MONTHS ago. (2) There are only a few tables in the store. Two were pushed together next to the counter, and were occupied the entire time I was there by store staff. Paying customers tried to sit, but nobody - including the on duty manager - gave up a seat. (3) The donuts themselves tasted good, but they were almost raw inside. I suspect the temp on the oil was too low. I ate them because I didn't think they could fix the fryer, and did I say they still tasted pretty doggone good... I really hope management (or maybe the franchise quality folks) brings the store back to the level it used to be. read more

Probably the best donuts I've ever had. However, I think they have an advantage as their donuts are made to order and served piping hot. I tried the french toast donut and the dulce de leche donut; both tasted pretty similar, but both were excellent nonetheless. These donuts absolutely melt in your mouth. My friend said they were a bit too sweet, but I shall hear none of that! They also do donuts to go, but given that they're made to order, I figure I probably wouldn't want to get them to go because that kind of defeats the purpose of buying them over store brand donuts. The atmosphere of the place leaves much to be desired, which sucks as I just explained that it would be advisable to eat the donuts in-store. I don't know if this place could pull in a regular crowd given its location anyway, but I personally would probably hang out here if it felt more welcoming. Honestly, this place looks like it's under construction when you walk in, when it's not. But I'm going to give this place the benefit of the doubt and just judge it on the donuts, so I'm going to give this place a 5. Seriously awesome donuts for a really cheap price, served hot. You see a theme here? After having read so much about Prune Doughnuts, and their deliciously fresh, made-to-order deep-fried delights, I was thrilled to finally be entering their store. Alas, when I arrived, it looked like the store had seen some better days. It was clean and definitely not sticky, but the place could use a fresh coat of paint and a few more fun touches. I ordered the Dirty Banana and the Lemonade doughnuts. The gentleman who took my order and boxed the doughnuts was pleasant enough, but nothing stood out. Both doughnuts were freshly made and very tasty, but nothing to really write home about. While there were a handful of other people purchasing their coffee and doughnuts, it seemed that most of their customers took their orders to-go and didn't linger in the shop. My husband and I sat for two minutes but decided to follow suit and left, especially since I prefer my doughnuts an hour or two after they've been frosted. (I find most cake doughnuts a bit smush-y just after they're fried.) I would go back again in the future, but a whimsical, fun atmosphere would definitely make that a little more likely, especially since I think I prefer them a bit more than their competitor - Duck Donuts. read more

When we asked questions it was met with short sharp answers and as if we were putting the young lady out for being there. She was very rude. We were the only customers and no one in line waiting. If you want some of the best doughnuts youve ever tasted come right on down. Theyve got flavors I never even imagined. My mouth literally salivates just looking at the picture I posted. This place is a real good old fashioned way of making doughnuts with fresh dough and super warm and soft the way a doughnut should be. It honestly has changed my experience of doughnut eating and I refuse to go back to dunkin doughnuts. As bad as that sounds my pallet has changed solely because of trying this place and I look forward to coming back one day. Just as a tip there are places to take pictures so dont forget that my fellow enthusiasts.
